I used to exercise all day everyday like a madman. And It was the happiest I was in my life. And I didn't have money or anything back then either. It makes sense now.
Same. I used to workout for around 4 hours a day, often lifting weights and run 5-8 miles. I was in insanely good shape. I also refused to drink alcohol. But then I started talking to this girl, she got me going out for drinks with work friends and skipping workouts. I wound up getting married (to a different girl), completely stopped working out, gained about 100lbs, and find that my ADHD symptoms are worse than ever.
I was able to go off of an antidepressant and an antianxiety medication both of which I had been on for more than 10 years. I did this after powerwalking every day for at least an hour a day for over a year.
I fully agree! No matter what type of stress I may be under, or even if I feel somewhat depressed, if I can just get my body moving, I will feel much better, and relieved, after only about 5 minutes! I think important to put the emphasis on movement, rather than “exercise”. Some may get bogged down in a specific type of exercise, and not understand that dancing, skipping rope, and nearly anything that gets your blood pumping, and heart rate up, will do!

Look, idk if my body works the other way around but I was recommended going to the gym (and especially running) bc of my depression and all it did was worsening it. I hate exercising, going to the gym was the worst torture I've ever inflicted to myself. Running only makes me feel like there's a depression monster behind me for which I have to run and run adn run and keep running otherwise it would catch me and this feeling of always having to run, I started to feel it outside of work out time. Take this pill to run away from the depression monster. Eat healthy at all cost, or the depression monster will devour you. Stay in the sun to boost serotonin, or you'll fall into the depression well again. Go to therapy or depression will kill you. Do this to fight depression. Do that to fight depression. Depression depression depression depression... For over a year and a half I dedicated every single second of my awake time to do something to fight depression. It was exhausting. And I ended up more depressed than ever. F*ck advice to fight depression. Depression gets better by doing what you like, not by following life advice that don't match with you.
I'm doing tons of housework. That helps, but I usually need someone to help me with the moping. So, I try not to stress the difficulties in being understood. Yet, worrying depletes serotonin. When I eat, I can sense my fragmented thoughts go away. Before sleep, those thoughts seem to shape dreams, but do they shape dreams? Anyway, sometimes I wish I had a serotonin shower, so I can sleep a whole 10 hours and wake up to a long fast of water and maybe a grapefruit, but with all the responsibilities I have at home? At some point, people get close and start nagging you to eat regular meals. Religion isn't the only thing people try to convert you to. Unless, you consider habits to be religion, too.
Can relate. I recall it was i think summer 2021 or 2022 cant tell exactly (most likely 2021?) i went for a very short run in the sun and it was the best feeling ever. Of course other factors may have factored in still i recognized out loud the powers of running
how many minutes/hours a day do you run? Also in the morning or at night? Outside the home or inside? Right now I am facing depression for a few months. Need your advice.
@@asifferdous7218 I was running usually in the evening, sometimes in the morning on weekends. I was running at least 5 days a week, outside. In the beginning of my depression, I was suffering so much every second was hell and running alleviated my suffering. I was running for 30mn, not very fast, but the best I could. I never thought I would get out of this hell. It took me 5-6 months to get better, but I did other things too. Practicing sophrology everyday, which is pretty popular in my country helped me for my severe anxiety and depression too, usually they go hand in hand. Sophrology is an advanced relaxation technique you learn with a sophrologist. It helps rewire your brain and stopping the vicious circle of negative thoughts. Basic relaxation with breathing techniques can help too. Therapy with a good therapist is also important. And eating healthy. And trying to do things like hobbies or whatever even if you really don't want to, playing video games or piano or watching a movie. I work with children and this helped me too. All this will help your brain to reset and starting to function properly again. Don't lose hope, and be absolutely determined. It will take months, but eventually you will succeed. After overcoming this shit, I was much happier than before my depression. It taught me a lot about myself and made me way stronger.
@@asifferdous7218 One last thing : acceptance. I know it sounds dumb or cliché but if you accept the fact you have depression and you're suffering every day, for now, you will suffer less. It's not easy but you need to mentally surrender to it. Resistance cause more anxiety, more suffering.

You probably have chronic fatigue with post exertional malaise. Thats what I have. Too much exercise makes me fell worse. I can only do a 3 minute walk, and 1 shower a day. If I do too much I feel worse for 3 or 4 days, then it goes away.

Hello people,i have an important and interesting question about this subject,My doctor too recommended about running and im aware of the chemical changes it does,but...how come many athletes and football players suffer from anxiety and pannic attacks? They should be in high fitness compared to the rest of the population.any one who has a clue is welcomed to answer.
@@evipoll8448 I do understand that issue, but the thing is...when you engage in exercise it realeses serotonin and dopamine no matter why the exercise is for.I guess these are a few cases just like there are athletes who die from heart attacks, sadly.
I dont know where you are getting the idea that they do. Im sure some of them do, Its not an exact science. He isnt saying that there is no way you can get anxiety if you exercise. Its more complex then that. but I wouldnt doubt it if athletes have some of the lowest incidences of anxiety of any other profession. Any job that involves exercise likely has much lower amounts if you were to poll people from various jobs. Some of the ones that do are probably overdoing their routines. Overdoing exercise is not good either.

Very interesting. However, runners high also is liked to the endocannabinoids specially when doing intense cardio, of course this doesn't exclude that serotonin also might contribute to it. I microdose weed almost everyday but the days that I run in the morning specially if I run distances longer than 10km I get a very good runners high that I don't feel any need to smoke weed that day. Actually if I smoke on those days it's not very pleasant because despite having a lot of energy I get crancky, very impulsive, anxious and struggle to focus on work. However, I don't know why this happens maybe all the endocanabinods/serotonine and THC promote the synthesis of adrenaline or something similar? Any thoughts?

I’m struggling with overwhelming paralysing anxiety throughout the night and day, and noticed my usual go-to exercise of running-while it takes the edge off the anxiety when I can push myself to do it - my previous results (physical relief, boost in happiness) is nowhere to be seen. I’m at a loss
“God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7
There’s an evil spirit called fear. Pray to God in Jesus’ name. Ask him to save you.
Read the Holy King James Bible or download it and play it starting in the gospel of John.
Read up on low ferritin symptoms. Have your ferritin and iron panel checked. Low levels cause exercise intolerance and exercise will make anxiety worse.
Add Prozac 20mg / day... No shame in it

Drink lots of water? Before, during, after exercise? Coconut water has a lot of electrolytes. Eating high water content fruits & vegetables helps too. Reducing salt intake.
Can you list all the methods for increasing serotonin?
I did sport for fun , anxiety, depression , addiction,... 4 to 5 times a week,.. so i had rest days,.. but i worked out hard ,, symptoms redruced tremendously,..it was heaven . Then i developed chronic fatigue syndrome,..and i went cold turkey ,.. could not do any sport no more,....one of the worst experiences of my life,.....i guess there is a downside to anything,...😢😊
Very good explanation to understand WHY...
No shit! Really interesting!!!
The man is right
Dr Evil has really chilled out.
Way more to the runners high than serotonin. It's a very small part. Heaps of cannabinoid pathways open also.
Does Tryptophan increase A1C levels? thank you
can i just take the supplement?
Is walking long distances enough? Or do I need to do something more vigorous?
I do daily yoga. But still my sleep problem didnt subside and feels less energetic.
So how do you lower serotinin if you are getting symptoms of too much serotinin?
After exercise cortisol spikes in me and I feel crying.
Can relate. I recall it was i think summer 2021 or 2022 cant tell exactly (most likely 2021?) i went for a very short run in the sun and it was the best feeling ever. Of course other factors may have factored in still i recognized out loud the powers of running
How can you test your theory? There is no test for measuring serotonin levels in the brain.
Is the runners high not a release of endorphins?
Running almost every day for months cured my depression when AD and other drugs didn't help me
how many minutes/hours a day do you run?
Thank you so much
@@asifferdous7218only jesys will fix get saved read Bible everyday Kjv walk an hour a day no matter how u feel. You’ll slowly feel better
Ever since I had Covid back in 2020 I only feel worse by exercising, I actually feel sick.
I can do low intensity stuff like Yoga but that doesnt have the same effect as high intensity workouts used to.
Whats the alternative to exercise?
You probably have chronic fatigue with post exertional malaise. Thats what I have. Too much exercise makes me fell worse. I can only do a 3 minute walk, and 1 shower a day. If I do too much I feel worse for 3 or 4 days, then it goes away.
5 - HTP ... worth researching 🙏
Take 10,000 iu d3 and 100 mcg k2 mk4 or mk7 n magnesium glycinate. Walk an hour a day avoid supper crazy intense but rarely I mean rarely after a couple weeks of walking workout a little
@@Thiswayisyours,
For me, hobbies that make me feel alive, like currently, I’m taking an online Cooking course, combined with *music,* do more to boost my mood than exercise ever did.
I have been sick for several weeks, needing lots of sleep, home bound, repeating the same simple day over and over, LOL, and a few days ago, it was starting to get to me-I decided to make sure I start working on my cooking course again two days ago, and I listen to my favorite cooking music while I work on it, and my mood shot waaaay up-higher than normal for me even. I just needed a mental boost and something fun!! A goal to shoot for!
I hope you’re able to find something. A favorite movie that brings back old memories can really help too! Just being out in nature helps. Early morning sunshine is also a big deal and getting to bed early. ❤
This! yes excercise the mind for COMT people is better than moving the body. I actually feel worse exercising.@@PeaceIsYeshua
I know this but what if exercise gives worse pain?
Sound logical. But what about people who suffer from exercise intolerance and PEM often in long COVID and CFS? And so on. It's a vicious cycle they can't get out of
How does working out help with ADHD if it increases serotonin? I thought increasing serotonin caused decrease in dopamine, which makes ADHD worse.

Any type of exercise? I currently can’t do cardio because I’m losing so much weight due to an illness. But I’m still weightlifting.
Aerobic
I have severe m s and really struggle workin out without muscle spasms
Man, I work out all the time, definitely still depressed
But what if excercise hurts? I’ve had a brain haemorrhage years ago and the muscles in my left leg have been sore since. I go out for a slow walk every day, but I’m just so moody.
Try yoga & Pilates to stretch and strengthen. I wouldn’t try running. I can be so detrimental to the body in many ways.
@@CL-un9gg Running is not an option, because of spasticity, but I do practice yoga nidra twice a day. Especially in the eveningit knocks me out completely and I’m asleep within minutes. I just wake up way too early, totally exhausted.
@@Skatamska ah, the old spasticity! I suffer myself. Horrible, isn’t it? Also a big fan of Nidra. I tend to use it more for naps. I find you only have a very short sleep cycle with it, but the system reboot is brilliant. I’m so sorry about your experience with your health. Hope you can get to a full recovery eventually ❤️
Runner's high is mainly from endorphins though
Soooo.... take 5htp before i exercise?
But what if you have low cortisol in the morning and fatigue? Do I still work out?
We can't provide any medical advice via comment or DM. However, try walking like you're late for 45 minutes outside if possible! 😊

Walk in morning when I wake up? But I have to be to work at 6 am .
What about 5HTP
I thought runner’s high was from natural cannabinoid anandamide?
Is this true?
I don't get that from exercise. I get lactic acid buildup which causes worsening issues. Is there another way to get serotonin?
Go for 1hr walk
thanks doc do you bike ride too?
Hello people,i have an important and interesting question about this subject,My doctor too recommended about running and im aware of the chemical changes it does,but...how come many athletes and football players suffer from anxiety and pannic attacks? They should be in high fitness compared to the rest of the population.any one who has a clue is welcomed to answer.
Maybe because for them it is about winning/ achieving goals? I run for fun, with my dog or with friends.
@@DeenForEver14 The ones that died likely had a heart defect, and it wasnt caused just from exercise. Undiagnosed defects are usually how younger people, and healthy people die from heart attacks.
@@moderaterevolution504 Thanks for you comment, sadly,I had anxiety attacks and started searching for ways to deal with it,i started running almost on a daily basis or at least 150 minutes a week, and it was very helpful for me.
You need to give up the drugs (weed) and get yourself into rehab.
Sounds very plausible! Ignore the comment about rehab, what nonsense!
Serotonin doesnt promote the synthesis of adrenaline
AH yes! Snake oil was sold as a cure all as well. While THC and CBD have their areas, they are neither one cure alls.
Angry needs a hit😂
