Travel isn’t always luxurious 😂 It’s the experience that counts. Though I’m ok not experiencing those bathrooms. Many of them definitely are not made for women…I don’t know how women would use them.Though you’ve gotta admire the women who do. Personally I’d rather go in the woods than use any of those bathrooms. Those are washrooms that you’re much cleaner going into than when you come out 😂 Drew made it farther into the rooms than I would…I’d be scared to even go in some of them and I can’t imagine if people actually had to use them at night after dark😱I’m not that brave. This was gross but interesting.

Yeah when peeing at least men can stand more easily, for women we'd need to squat or sit, and that risks being closer to these germs and getting infections haha.

Good try Drew but you missed one that makes some of these look like 5 star accommodations. In rural Burma(Myanmar) the “toilet” is an eight foot long wood plank about a foot and a half wide precariously perched on the side of a hill at an appx 20 degree slope down from horizontal. You carefully step along the plank to its dead end (literally?) hanging over the hill. You’re still in full view of anyone going by. A #1 isn’t too bad but you better not have slippery shoes for a #2. Ideally it goes over the edge and down the hill but in reality it kind of piles up at the end of the plank. Unless you bring your own there’s obviously no toilet paper and no water. The other places where both the Board Of Health and the College of Gastroenterologists recommend you hold it in, are the communal toilets in rural China. It’s like bench seats, a board with holes cut in it, over a big pit about 4 feet deep that’s about a 10 ft by 6 ft rectangle. Can’t avoid being friendly with your neighbors. Also it’s bring your own toilet paper and no running water. The kicker is the farms use the night soil as fertilizer. Way back in the commune collective farm days, the commune boss would send a crew over with shovels & barrels on the commune truck to shovel out the fertilizer. About once a week the boss would order three or four farmers to go with the driver to bring back the weekly supply to spread on the crops. He always sent them as a team. It could well be the origin of the phrase “get your $hi+ together”.

    • @AussiePom

Yes I saw a public toilet in India where the people were lined up to use it and it was a brick building built out over and on top of a stone wall over what was once a river teaming with life. Now though it's a dead river teaming with turds. Even the Ganges River where people pray next to a 600mm diameter sewerage outlet that's pouring raw yellow sewerage into the river. Dead bodies also float down the river for many a family has to weigh up whether it's a good idea to buy wood to burn the dead relative or just throw them into the river for their time is over and our money can be better used on feeding the living family members.
Even in Mumbai people use the beach area to take a dump. Mumbai being the Indian name for Bombay although with the public defecating perhaps it should have been named Bumbay.
Railway tracks are also a common place to find public defecation and people seen carrying water near them are either about to take a dump or have just taken a dump. Water is used to cleanse one's rear end with one's fingers as poo is water soluble.

The toilet on Papua seems better than the public toilets in the countryside of Java. We only have the ones where you have to squat, which personally I find uncomfortable. We only have buckets of water for flushing and cleaning our butts, but I really hate because of the angle and that my shirts get wet in the process. Guess even developed countries have terrible toilets. Really puts my mind at ease.

I live in India where a bad unhygenic bathroom and toilet is just a normal tuesday so trust me when I say that I have seen the nastiest toilets ever to the point that whenever I find myself in a hotel room with a spotless toilet, I cry for joy. The new york toilet comes the closest to how most public toilets look and the smell is probably only matched by the toilet with a literal hole in the floor. Public toilets are strictly for peeing, if by some unfortunate circumstance you have to use them for a poo, pray that your immune system is strong and always ALWAYS carry your own emergency supplies.

True. Plus Indian railways are notoriously dirty and ill maintained. Both are to be blamed- the railway authorities for careless behaviour and public for lacking bathroom etiquettes. Once i even saw an aunty making her son piss near the basin in open, when i complained she said- "chhota bachcha hai ye , iska chalta hai."🤦‍♀️

What was so bad with the Trans-Siberian train toilet? It's just a normal train toilet. I was at some long-distance trains in Russia and none of the toilets were really bad at all, I mean, it's a train toilet but I have had much dirtier train toilets in my home country of Sweden for instance than I ever had in Russia. I have also been through the shower right next to the toilet with no curtain or anything. But whereas the floor gets wet, it's not really that bad anyway, it's just water and well the toilet is Western so good enough. As long as it's not a squat toilet...I am still not even sure how I am supposed to use them lol. And to be honest I would rather use nature than squat toilets or any other hole in the floor style toilets.
And often toilets are dirty because people cannot use them properly...standing up on toilets that are meant for sitting on, and that often even if there are urinoars made for standing and without even putting the seat up so at least you won't make the whole seat wet...
    Yeah, that's the problem.
The cleanest toilets, by far, have been in Japan (probably not a surprise, but well, the truth).

It would be nice if you could make a video series where you go around the entire USA and go to each state and rate the 5 worst and the 5 best public restrooms?
You would rate them on things such as "ACCESSABILITY" for many different types of disabilities and the different amenities and appearances etc?

Whattt? I think it depends on where is your school was located. I was in Primary school in 1966-70 in rural area, Philippines. We had clean toilet bowls and good water supply. Sink and faucet at every classroom. Recess time, we had placemats (our parents made) and food trays where we place a bun, oats and a cup of milk. I still remember vividly. PTA members came and prepared oats and milk for us. Oats and milk were aid from USA. The buns were baked in huge bakery at a local high school. Every morning each 34 primary schools collect for their recess buns. No, not near Subic Bay or Clark Air Base. It’s maybe 2 hour by plane from there. Somewhere in central Philippines.

I'd be in trouble if I traveled. I absolutely hate using public restrooms. I have run errands and sometimes I have to pee right away and I will wait a few hours until I get home. When I was a kid, we were traveling to another state and I had to go to the bathroom. My family stopped along side the road and I refused. They then stopped at a gas station. I went into the restroom and refused because it was dirty. When we got back on the road, I said I had to go to the bathroom and this time when when they stopped along side the road, my mom forced me go. Also, whenever we encountered pay toilets back in the 70's, my mom and grandmother would make me crawl under the door and open it so they wouldn't have to pay. That probably has a lot to do with why I hate public restrooms.

As a public toilet cleaner myself I can tell you that I clean public toilets so they're hygienically clean and yet one filthy person can make it look like no one has been near it for quite some time. Public toilets are not just places for people to peep and poo in for sex takes place in them too between two or more males or two or more females and between males and females. I once had a male and female who both wanted to do a poo in the female toilet because they wanted to share the experience. Normal looking people with perverted desires. We have pit toilets or the hole in the ground which contain the fermented memories of the last ten thousand visits. We had environmentally friendly toilets that didn't last the proverbial five minutes for people didn't just pee and poo in them for women threw their used sanitary wear into them treating the toilet as a used sanitary bin. The micro organisms don't consume used sanitary wear. Sanitary bins were provided and emptied twice a week but they mainly contained ordinary litter like coffee cups, food wrappers and water bottles.
We are constantly having to fit new baby change tables because adults get on them to have sex and their weight breaks them off the wall. I can only hope that they get badly bruised when they end up falling to the floor and often think that baby change tables shouldn't be provided and that babies should be changed in the back of a car like we were when we were a baby as no toilets had baby change tables in those days and we all survived the back of the car.

You won't find many public toilets in England. When I was a young man there were plenty of public toilets and they were kept clean by our local councils. Today it is difficult to find a public toilet and if you can they are flooded with urine and lacking in hand washing facilities. I have prostate disease and have urinary problems, plus I am disabled so trying to find a toilet can be a nightmare. In Victorian times toilets were a work of art. If you are lucky to find a toilet today the toilet seats will be missing and the walls will be covered with graffiti. A sign of the times we live in now.
