- Celebrate with this easy, inexpensive and fast to make tribute to the meaty Grilled Portobello Cheese Steak Sandwich. Since Jersey Mike's isn't intentionally vegan we made it so easy enough and it's much better. Featuring succulent sliced Portabella mushrooms, red and green bell peppers, and onions, all sautéed to perfection. This sandwich is a delightful twist on a classic, with a special punch. Serve on a warm, toasty sub roll with melted vegan cheese, it’s a delicious plant-based tribute to the beloved cheesesteak.

Grilled Portabella Cheesesteak Sandwich
Ingredients:
4 large Portabella mushrooms, sliced
1 red bell pepper, cut into rounds
1 green bell pepper, cut into rounds
1 medium red onion, cut into rounds
3 small cloves of garlic
2 tablespoons of fresh parsley
4 tablespoons of olive oil, divided
6 slices of vegan cheese
1 14-inch sub roll
1 tablespoon, Blazing Beast (Nutritional Yeast Blend) Optional
Instructions:
Using a mortar and pestle, crush the garlic and parsley into a paste. Add a sprinkle of salt and 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of the *Blazing Beast; mix to combine. (nutritional yeast & chili pepper flake mix) Optional
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Sear the sliced mushrooms until cooked through, then set aside. Mix in the garlic-parsley paste to marinate for a few minutes.
In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of olive oil, followed by the peppers and onions. Sauté for a few minutes until softened, then remove from the pan and set aside.
Toast the sub roll. (optional)
Return the skillet to heat. Add the mushroom mixture along with the peppers and onions, and sauté for 2 minutes until heated through. If making two sandwiches, divide the mixture into two portions in the skillet. Top each with vegan cheese slices and allow them to melt.
Place the cheesy mushroom and vegetable mix into the toasted sub roll. Wrap the sandwich in parchment paper and serve warm.

I believe the secret's in the bread. If you don't have good bread it almost won't matter what you put in it, and vice versa if you have great bread almost anything you put in it will seem better. Just don't be stingy with the cheese, even if it's vegan cheese.
Looks wonderful! You likely know this however thought I would offer that oil is not really required to sauté mushrooms. I recently learned this and was amazed at how well it worked. Browned them much better than when using oil. Not being critical, just sharing a tip.
Always entertaining Frankie and Derek is not bad either!

@KingstonMusician he doesn't make the nutritional yeast but 6 different blends using nutritional yeast as the base. He is using one of those blends in his recipe today. You were likely looking at the right video.

@@DerekSarnoChef no it is not. If you look at the "testing" they did they gave the dogs about 80 cloves a day. No he would give any dog that much. There are many articles on the good garlic does for dogs in the right amounts. You girl can be getting a clove of fresh garlic a day. We are all natural here with our dogs and go to a homeopathic vet and all natural Chinese and homeopathic vets tell you to feed garlic in the right amounts. Please look it up . I think dogs naturally has an article on it as well. Blessings.
