The "hardest" part about trying to be WFPB is just convenience. I think your channel has made it much easier on me and my journey along with so many other wonderful content creators. I've been on a dietary journey since about 2016, got a stent in 2017 (at age 44) and have been on a path of better choices/better living ever since. I'm 53 now and I'm just learning how to cook thanks to YOU and so many others. Now I'm in LOVE with cooking, finding new options and feeling better about what I'm digesting. Thank you Derek... love you man. I appreciate you. HAPPY BIRTHDY MRS. AMERICA!!! You're beautiful!!!
i think now it's very convenient. depending on your health you cn open a an of lentils and packet of rice or buy a salad some buns and some fake meat. Not so easy for me but i can do some of the things. x
Like you my biggest regret is that I didn’t become vegan sooner. 9 years almost now and will never change. I love cooking, it’s when I really chill out creating nice, nutritious food to eat, all grown never born, and never any secretions from abused animals either. 💚🌱
I live in an apartment, don't know if you're familiar with Gaz Oakley moving back to Wales after his Dad had a heart attack and he's literally living off the land he's another inspiration. I've been trying to grow stuff hydroponically in the window with not great results but there's a farmer's market and an Asian market near me so I can't complain. I agree re: cooking it's sort of a meditative practice including the washing up lol.
I was a vegetarian from early age and when I became fully vegan a few years ago, my biggest surprise was how much more I enjoyed all phases of prepping, cooking, and being creative in the kitchen. Also, just in case anyone floats by here hoping to enhance their life, and the lives of others: my memory became sharper, my skin cleared up, and I have super woman-like energy now. I think the trick is that cooking, and eating had to become an integral part of my everyday routine for optimal health and well-bieng. Food and meals can no longer be an afterthought of my busy schedule. A lovely side effect of this change is that I go out less, save a ton of money, and look and feel my best. God bless Bodhisatva Sarno and all the beautiful animals! 💓 - Summer
This is my putting 2 and 2 together my dear. I have a packet in the cupboard, tonight’s dinner. I’m 74, 8 years ago had the big “c”, so I changed my eating habits, never looked back and very happy I don’t feel the need to eat gorgeous animals that can’t speak for themselves. Thanks to you and others like you, it’s very easy, and impressive. Love you young man and Frankie of course. Hugs from Australia ❤❤
When I met my wife, my only interaction with veganism was secondhand derision at the idea of not eating "the main portion" of a meal. I made a friend at work who was vegetarian and they introduced me to eating a wider variety of veggies than just the mix bag from the frozen aisle. When I met my wife, she'd been vegan for 10 years. It changed how I viewed veganism and it pushed me to learn more about it. After getting married, I went to culinary school. Le Cordon Bleu is steeped in "tradition" which meant I didn't really learn alternative cooking but the good thing to come from school is methodology and technique. In the years since I learned to cook, I've cooked in dozens of kitchens across the world. My relationship with plant based cooking has changed dramatically and now most of my meals are vegan/vegetarian depending on what we feel like that day. I don't think I'll ever be fully vegan but I am definitely flexitarian. Your videos have helped to elevate our vegan cooking (and even my non-vegan cooking) with greater flavor and better options. There's something fundamental that you provide that I don't know if it's intentional or not, but the mindset of applying the techniques learned in the industry to plant based ingredients has really opened up my eyes to how simple it can be to make the switch when planning meals. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing your journey and all your cooking skills with us . . I was vegetarian for 2 years before going vegan . The more research I did, the more convinced I was to go all the way .. vegan for the animals,my health and the health of the planet. We love you and Frankie. 🥰 I wish they wouldn’t allow meat commercials to play during a vegan cooking show. I think the meat industry is behind those advertisements. 😡
I've been vegan for years, haven't eaten meat in 20 years. My family are vegan. We all live healthy lives, and our food is yummy. Don't miss out on anything re flavours, textures, etc. It's a myth you need to eat meat for enjoyment, health, whatever. Yawn. I am 60 now, and just rode 2000km on an ultra bike race - hmmm, how can that be? Where does he get his protein lol. We eat Indian, Italian, Chinese, whatever, and it's not difficult at all. Easy, peasy. End of.
I agree I love the embracing of different cuisines from around the world. Recently fractured my hip so temporarily out of commission but a buddy is making sure my dog gets out in the cool of the morning and we can get back to our hikes. I also like endurance activities; almost made it across Lake Ontario (68 now) it was a great adventure. Good on you!!!!!
So good, we started with meatless Mondays 6 years ago and it took 2 years to get to full plant based. We have been plant based for 4 years now. Like you I have been a chef for 35 years. I had to re learn to cook when we went full plant. I continue to get better. You and your channel have been educational, inspiring and thought provoking. I am a better plant based chef because of you. Thank you for always sharing your passion Jim
Your so lucky that your spouse joined you. I am female and my husband did not. I thought for sure when i educated him on the horrors of animal agriculture he would join me but he didn’t. We are still together but it is a constant struggle because every aspect of life seems to be surrounded around food and eating. 😢
I've only been vegan for 2 and a half years at the age of 63 Thanks to my son and yourself who informed but never preached and your amazing recipes I am loving being vegan. Always had dogs throughout my life and considered myself an animal lover, turned out I was a dog lover because I contributed to animals being slaughtered. Now I'm an animal lover! Like yourself my only regret is not doing it soon enough! Thank you so much Derek for helping to change mine and countless other lives, human and animal.
We love a daddy vegan chef over here . Humor aside, what I love about your channel is watching the process and that we often don’t know what you’re doing until the end. I don’t know if that’s quite intentional but it’s like watching an episode of a show unfold. Where are we going with this. Results are always spectacular. I also love that these recipes contain multiple recipes within them. You really are one of the best on here. Also one other thing that could be interesting (and considering the current issues going on in the UK), I’ve been watching a content creator from Canada called Eating With Afia. She primarily cooks West African food. Her approach to focusing on ingredients is something I think you’d appreciate. With the UK having such a notable Nigerian/Ghanian population it could be interesting to see you explore these foods.
I've only been vegan for a little over a year, but it blows my mind how much happier and healthier I am across so many aspects of my life. So far, it's been the most important decision of my adult life. Always love hearing you talk about veganism. You rock Derek.
Been 3 years for me not eating any meat. I got 2 pup rescues. I was pretty chill b4 but now even more chill. I was 360lbs before not eating meat. Down to 290lbs. Cutting out the super processed vegan stuff to get down to my goal weight. Currently on a 10 day water fast, lost 15lbs on day 8. Will weigh myself on a completed day 10. When I eat again, making all my food from scratch.
I've been vegetarian/dairy free (can't say vegan as i eat honey) for 25 years, love it. Im thrilled with all the new vegans/vegetarians/plant based people, i hope they stick with it (yes its hard at times but so very worth it). My big black lab Archie thinks Frankie is sweet and sends her birthday kisses😚
I went vegan for a year back around 2018. I personally found it too restrictive for me to continue long term but I learnt a lot about cooking vegetarian food and now ~90% of my diet is vegetarian and a lot of that is incidentally vegan. Would encourage anyone who might be scared of going all in on being vegan to just reduce the amount of meat and dairy you eat, doing a small manageable change is better than just saying nah it's too hard I'm not gonna do anything.
I actually think that is a healthy way to transition, because going from processed food to super high fiber does leave its mark; also it just becomes second nature if you take it seriously over time. My sis went militantly vegan and ranted about people's leather belts then went totally keto and her husband developed gout. Not a good idea.
@@EvelynBaronWell, it is a life and death issue. It’s worth being militant about. If I were on the other end of the knife I’d hope that you and all other witnesses would be willing to be “militant” on my behalf.
Happy birthday, puppy1 I've been a vegetarian for 37 years now. I have never been able to make the change to go vegan. I appreciate channels like yours that are nudging me ever closer!
For processed soy protein, which i love, i prefer to use soy sauce, even dark one instead of salt for seasoning. Feel like it brings a more deep color and taste
Yuoung man cooking has a wicked chili sauce recipe and also mixes dark soy you might really like him; he is so precise it's fabulous. I try not to use salt if I can use miso paste or soy/tamari instead ; it all depends. I know professional chefs are trained to season as they go but as with oil/fat I tend to use it more at the end because my palate has changed over the years being vegan. I'm still a bit restricted $$ but saving up for proper cast iron pans and understand that high heat actually works better than anything else to begin with, one of the many things I'm learning on this channel.
I'm 14 years vegan this month. I love any time you speak passionately about the animals, you often make me cry ❤ it's great to have so many amazing vegan chefs available to watch now, and in particular seeing men choose to embrace that compassion and vulnerability. Thank you for sharing so much of your heart and soul with us all!

Frankie's birthday is the same as my Dad. Re: Labs, one of my besties has a lake on her property in New Brunswick and the photos of her and Leo in a kayak no less bring endless joy.
Was thinking the same! One of my dogs will wear a hat but looks miserable until the hat is removed, when his countenance flips 180 and he zooms through the house. The other dog absolutely will not wear a hat long enough for me to take a pic. Every time I’ve tried I get her in blurred motion. Frankie’s a good girl!

Vegan since 2020! Thanks for the inspiration to keep it going. I live in Portland Oregon and am planning on going to graduate school in the UK in a few years. Nice to have someone vegan and leaving a similar path to follow and succeed. Thanks Derek!
Happy birthday, Frankie! I'm looking forward to seeing what you make with the TVP chunks. In America, there is a product called soy curls that are just gently textured soybeans. They are dehydrated. They are amazing to use. I store them in the freezer and they get crisp there so that you can break them into smaller pieces (and they don't go bad stored that way, too.) I buy them in bulk - huge 12 lb bags - and there are always crumbs in the bottom that make a great sandwich filling when rehydrated with seasonings and then add mayo, relish, onion, etc. The saddest part is that they aren't organic. They are made by Butler Foods - a family run business. If you can get some, they are well worth using, too. Great texture and they absorb all of the flavors.
Great video!! Mustard crisp on the potatoes!! What a great oil free tip!! Thank you so much! Happy birthday. Frankie! 6 years vegan for the animals and one of the best choices of my life!

My clients knew I was heartbroken and one of them called, a puppy needed a home she sent a picture and the puppy looked identical to my Gigi. Sophie is now 6 months old, she is petite unlike Gigi but just as loving. Sophie has a four-year-old brother, a Yorkie named Lorenzo Bartolini. Thank you, you are a beautiful soul.
2+ years of living vegan. i still regret every single day i was ignorant to the cruelty that animals have to suffer. i want to appeal to everyone who still isn't vegan: inform yourself about the animal industry, think about how your lifestyle is affecting the most innocent creatures on this planet, and make the right decision do it, so you don't have to live with the regret of not making a change earlier
I wish someone would have made this appeal to me when I was 20 and working at a BBQ... It took me another decade to realize I didn't need animals on my plate. And I regret not having known about it earlier!
I'm 77 yrs. Young. I'm trying to be vegan but get painful gout everytime. My Dr. thinks it's the purines. I don't want to hurt animals and I want to be healthy for once in my life. Could it be oxalate dumping? Does anyone have a suggestion.
@darlenemiller847 check out Chef AJ and her interview with Dr. Frank Sabatino on TH-cam from 11 days ago. Very informative and he explains why non vegan meat eaters get gout. Highly acidic foods like meat and dairy cause gout. Vegan diets are alkaline, the opposite of acidic. Plus if you're taking medications while trying to transition to a vegan diet while still consuming animal products it could be throwing your system off. Hope that helps.
So good to see Sauce Stache mentioned!! Has such amazing ideas. Been Vegan for 10 years and you're right so: the only regret is not going Vegan sooner.

I wanted to write this exact thing too! I've also been 9 years vegan 😊 best decision
💓 - Summer
Thanks for watching
The skin clearing is so real! I experienced it too.
@@DerekSarnoChef I bet you don't even realize what a force for good your channel is in the social media nonsense all over the place these days.
Inspiring comments-thanks
Thank you!
Thanks, keep going, the world needs more real plant based chefs
Good on you!!!!!
health? meat is a detriment to any human's health. only the ones who eat very little get away with it.
I love this channel. It's like watching a real life Pixar production with the sound and visual quality in tandem with the quick edits. Very calming.
Thanks for watching
Loved this video. 7 years vegan and I wish I would have done it years ago.

Happy Birthday, Miss America 🎉❤
My husband and I have been vegan since 1986. Living and thriving with no major illnesses. Will never go back. Love your channel.
Your so lucky that your spouse joined you. I am female and my husband did not. I thought for sure when i educated him on the horrors of animal agriculture he would join me but he didn’t. We are still together but it is a constant struggle because every aspect of life seems to be surrounded around food and eating. 😢
I am 75 and still have old restauant manager eating habits. I am most comfortable standing while I eat.
Same here. One is just too busy to stop and eat .
As a mother of three children I three years, I ate standing up. Never lost the habit.
I’ve always been most comfortable standing and eating since a little kid. My dad hated it.
I'm 65 and thanks to you, I've been cooking vegan, and loving the variety. Now all I need is a Frankie of my own.
Wonderful!
I didn't make a note, but I went plant-based about a year ago this month. You make cooking for this enjoyable, casual, and delicious!
Thank you for sharing and watching
I've only been vegan for a little over a year, but it blows my mind how much happier and healthier I am across so many aspects of my life. So far, it's been the most important decision of my adult life. Always love hearing you talk about veganism. You rock Derek.
Congrats on going vegan! Lots of us get health improvements, but what's really impressive is how much happier we become. 💚
Happy Birthday, Frankie 🥳🎉🥳
Been 3 years for me not eating any meat. I got 2 pup rescues. I was pretty chill b4 but now even more chill. I was 360lbs before not eating meat. Down to 290lbs. Cutting out the super processed vegan stuff to get down to my goal weight. Currently on a 10 day water fast, lost 15lbs on day 8. Will weigh myself on a completed day 10. When I eat again, making all my food from scratch.
Good job!
Good work fella
You are amazing! thanks for the inspiration! I am just starting on my weight loss journey.
Ah you rock..

So cool how you toasted the nori👌🏽. Good to know! Happy Birthday Frankie!
Happy Birthday Frankie ! 🎂🎉🥜
You are Amazing chef!!! Thanks for sharing recipes with us.
Just here to say you're awesome and keep up the great work! Hope to have you and Chad visit Hawaii at some point! Would be so fun!
Thanks Kristina. That will be amazing 🫶
That would be amazing! I’m sensing retreat vibes!

Happy Happy Birthday Frankie ❤🎉🎂🥳🥰🎁🎊🎈♥️
I'm glad you started using tvp, it's gonna be fun to watch your upcoming recipes!
20 years vegan. I'm 40yo now, have 2 teenagers, healthy and thriving.
Happy Birthday, Frankie! 🎉🎈🎁🎂
Happy birthday Frankie! 🎉🐶🥳 Love the videos. As a vegetarian and diabetic it can be difficult to find cooking inspiration and recipes. Thanks for both! 😀❤️👨🏼🍳
Frankie is exactly the same age as my Lab! - mine was 4 on August 1st🎉 happy birthday!
Frankie's birthday is the same as my Dad. Re: Labs, one of my besties has a lake on her property in New Brunswick and the photos of her and Leo in a kayak no less bring endless joy.
Happy Birthday, Frankie!🎂🎉🎊🎁🎈
Frankie is so well trained, she didn't want to eat off the plate!
She is so amazing and sweet
@@terredee I can't put anything on Kiwi she's a free standing structure as Northrup Fry said of Margaret Atwood. But she's a Peke. You don't really train a peke in my experience you negotiate. Ahem. And she usually wins. lol.
Feliz Aniversário, Frankie - you are super cute! No regrets to going plant based here either. It has actually been super exciting and rewarding!!!
I went vegetarian at 65 yo for my grandchildren (all the children really) as regards the planet. After more education and conscious-raising I’m now vegan❤ Thanks again Chef!
Happy Birthday, beautiful Frankie!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Reporting back after making this fantastic meal as directed! The layering of flavors!! You weren’t kidding!! Truly crave-worthy meal, made up of each separately delicious aspect…and easy peasy! Can finally stop looking for a vegan Caesar dressing recipe. Nice nod to @SauceStache…another top fave of mine. TY Derek! Perfect meal for celebrating Frankie’s BDay! 🐾 ❤️ Yet another great video! 🏆
By the way, TVP is not just protein. It is everything soy has to offer, like fibre, iron etc. - just without the oil content of soy. Everything without the fat. It is so awesome.
Love the Caesar dressing recipe! Happy Birthday, Frankie 🎉
This was the best, the very best. Can't wait, will be making all these recipes. Your cooking transition is becoming my best life transition. Thank you and Happy Birthday Frankie, you beautiful doll.

Your food ALWAYS looks so amazing! I get so hungry watching your videos. I love that you share technique as much as you do recipes. Happy happy birthday to Miss Frankie ❤❤❤
Just found your channel, I was vegetarian with my husband over 30 years ago and we had 4 children raised that way and we are all vegan now about 15 years plus , always have loved and respected animals since a little girl and struggled against my parents rules. Just love living the plant based life ! lol Always looking for new recipes, thank you for your channel, fabulous! All the way from the east coast of Australia 🇦🇺

Happy Burfday, Frankie! Have many more! Food looks delicious, and the comment about regretting not having gone vegan sooner is so relatable. Thanks for posting 🙂
Thank you for sharing your story, your love of cooking for flavor, your special bond with your doggy, and most of all for helping some of us who flounder to re-adjust our compass. Happy Birthday Dear Frankie!!!

Vegetarian since 1990. Vegan since 2012. Best decisions ever.
You should try Butler Soy Curls if you haven’t already. Just order the big ass box, you will love it and love playing around with it.
My hubby & I have only been WFPB for a little over a year, and I am so thankful for the recipes you share! Great recipes and your "style" makes me smile. Sending you a HUGE THANK YOU for inspiring me to be a better home chef!!
Hi Derek, I stumbled on your channel by accident, and at first I didn't even catch that you were just cooking vegan food! Everything just looked so amazing I kept watching. I'm an obsessed home cook (25 years experience) and I'm now inspired to do plant based meals to up my cooking game, to eat better and help protect animals. This might be my wake up moment. Thank you!
My new binge channel. Vegan food, great dog, amazing chef with tats and humor. God I love to cook and this gives me so many ideas🎉 Thanks!!
That dish was so absolutely delicious 😋. Happy Birthday 🎁 to the gorgeous Miss Frankie. Tanya is beautiful and very sweet.

Vegan since 2020! Thanks for the inspiration to keep it going. I live in Portland Oregon and am planning on going to graduate school in the UK in a few years. Nice to have someone vegan and leaving a similar path to follow and succeed. Thanks Derek!
Awww. So sweet! So lady-like eating her cupcake.. 🍰🎊🌸 Happiest of birthdays Frankie! 🎂 thanks for the recipes. The Parmesan recipe looked amazing.
I am so grateful I came across your channel several weeks ago! Your love of cooking, obvious years of experience, and the variety of humor and kindness that you throw in is exceptional. High-contrast between you and other TH-camrs.
I'm an 8 year vegan, and Derek, you are awesome, brother! Thanks!!!
Thank you for such beautiful content. I am a disaster in the kitchen but I do try some of your recipes. I love your black lab! I lost my Gigi, my labradoodle for 13 years on March 25, 2024. I found her as a puppy I don't really know what her breed was, but she looked like a labradoodle to me.
2+ years of living vegan. i still regret every single day i was ignorant to the cruelty that animals have to suffer.
i want to appeal to everyone who still isn't vegan:
inform yourself about the animal industry, think about how your lifestyle is affecting the most innocent creatures on this planet, and make the right decision
do it, so you don't have to live with the regret of not making a change earlier
I wish someone would have made this appeal to me when I was 20 and working at a BBQ...
It took me another decade to realize I didn't need animals on my plate.
And I regret not having known about it earlier!
I'm 77 yrs. Young. I'm trying to be
vegan but get painful gout everytime. My Dr. thinks it's the purines.
@darlenemiller847 I suggest you watch Yahki Awakens. He is a nutritionist and biochemist. He even takes questions on live call ins. 💚🌿

So good to see Sauce Stache mentioned!! Has such amazing ideas. Been Vegan for 10 years and you're right so: the only regret is not going Vegan sooner.
Yes! I regret that I didn’t become plant based sooner. It took me a few years to make the switch but I did it slow at first. Starting with plant-based breakfast for about a year. Then I found rainbowplantlife and she helped me switch in about two months! Now finding more plant based chefs like you has made my recipes a lot more diverse. Thank you so much for sharing your recipes!
I like rainbowplantlife also; for some reason she and I sort of end up making the same kind of food anyway and she's the better cook so absolutely.
This is Violaine from Saint-Malo in France, I just discovered your channel and I am hooked. I went vegan not so long ago after going through questionings about having to give up cooking meat, and this is France, so giving up meat, butter and cheese is a real social challenge. Nevertheless, beside making me feel finally aligned, going vegan has boosted my culinary creativity. Your channel is a beautiful discovery I love your "sensibilité culinaire" not too sure how this translates into English ... culinary sensitivity ? So thank you for sharing your experience and inspiring receipes.

Derek, I started watching your videos when you made all those wicked, unbelievably bloody rare mushroom steaks, and like everyone else, I was absolutely blown away by how delicious and convincing they looked! However, I must say, I am even more drawn to your videos now, as these are foods and ingredients I can easily get and already have at home, and can make after work and on the weekends. Thanks for supporting and watching. If we can be one thing in life, be kind.
I also have a wonder dog named Kiwi. She was the runt of the litter and one of her ears had been chewed and not treated and the minute she saw me she hurtled in my general direction to our mutual delight. I also prefer the simpler recipes because they're easy to adapt for me but I also get that like Gaz Oakley, you can't take the Michelin star chef out of the .... Michelin Star chef and some more elaborate recipes I do reserve for occasions when I'm not just doing rotational meal prep. $$$ are a consideration for me so that's a factor but there are ways of getting around things. Loved your comment!
