    Clearly 5 star scale is not working anymore. 10 stars maybe would be nice.

      They have the percentages for each of the categories, that's at least more useful.

      Maybe you haven't been paying attention, but I'm see some pretty server car crashes (vehicles totalled) where driver and passenger can walk away from. From that perspective, cars have come a long way in safety.

    They should make the tests harder to pass. I am not talking about car-crash avoidance tehnology, but develop new criteria for cars to achieve the maximum rating.
    This type of crash is outdated, companies should aim to make cars safer at higher speed crashes like 80km/h, but as long as organisations as euroncap don't implement new rules, they will continue to deliver the same product every generation.

    • @05Forenza

      IIHS in the United States was explaining there is a fine line about having safer cars at higher speeds. If you optimize the cars at high speeds, it compromises the lower speeds; and visa versa. I think there is more companies can do, but we are significantly safer than we used to be.

    • @vali2638

      @@05Forenza Well, this is what engineers do, come out with smart solutions in order to solve problems. I am sure that they can think of a way to make a car safe both at high and low speed.
      The problem with today's companies is that the cars are made by accountants. You can see a huge development in car safety between '90 and '00 and between '00 and 2010s. That was the era where car manufactures spend billions on making their product better in every aspect. Brands like Mercedes invented ESP,seatbelt pretensioners and other safety features.

    • @vali2638

      @@05Forenza One more thing. IIHS started to test the rear occupants safety too. They introduced this test so now car companies have to install in their cars rear seats pretensioners and load limiters in order to receive a maximum rating.
      It is not about if it can be done, but more if it is wanted to be done.

    Wouldn’t it be good to have airbags in the rear of the front seats that would only deploy if there was a rear passenger?

  • @Swiss4.2

    I don't know why everyone is complaining, if you compare this car to the BMW X1 the Tiguan did better when it comes to dummy kinematics in both frontal crash tests; the X1 only got slightly better scores in the pole and side crash tests. The Tiguan is still very safe even when comparing to other premium SUVs.

    • @PiotrW89

      What about Tiguan II? It had a better result in Adult protection.

    • @Swiss4.2

      @@PiotrW89 Those were the old test standards, since then regulations have gotten a lot harder so 83% is actually quite a good score. The old Tiguan II would probably score about 75%-80% because the Touran III which is based on the same MQB platform as the Tiguan II scored 77%.

    My dad just got this car a few weeks ago and now I'm kind of dissapointed and worried :( Why did it get so low on adult occupant even though it received 5 stars?

  • @vadimtres

    Wonder what about false alarms, like emergency breaking when there’s no real need for that? More and more people mention this in everyday use of cars with all the assistant systems.

  • @gonzokryllake4587

    Why did the passenger airbag inflate on the wall crash. Does the Tiguan not have a sensor in the seat whether it is occupied or not? That's a lot more damage in a crash than if only the driver airbag would deploy.

    • @sam-zf1hq

      The car doesn’t know whether the driver is slouched over the passenger seat or whether there’s an infant in the back seat that’s gonna come flying towards the dash. So it inflates all airbags very rightfully so in an effort to be safe rather than sorry.
      Imagine you’re dead but your passenger side dash is looking brand new.

    The reasons why it has low rate:
    1. It is a 2024 model and the criteria are changing. Don't compare to older models. They are more strict now.
    Also according to the link:
    2. Tiguan is more aggresive in front collisions. This can be lead to more damage to the oncoming vehicle.
    3. Rear passenger chest protection characterized as "marginal".
    4. Evidence of a phenomenon known as ‘submarining’ (seat belt goes a little higher) may lead to abdominal injuries.
    5. In one of the side collisions (not the pole impact), the side airbag tear appart about 3cm and so it lost many points.

    these tests shouldn't feature optional kit, only the standard shipped models, as rear curtains are optional in many countries so will affect internal occupancy protection standards

      It's not optional in my country. In the Czech Republic and Germany it is standard equipment even in the most basic model.

    Half of the cars on the roads are crossovers. But Euro NCAP continues to run crash tests with golf-sized carts. 🐏🐏🐏

    • @crestas9

      Most cars are Golf-sized in Europe. Maybe not in the Nordics but everywhere else. Best selling cars are B-Hatches, C-Hatches and B-Crossovers

    • @Klimov12

      @@crestas9 Anyway, the number of crossovers on the roads is increasing. The safety of B- and C-hatches needs to be improved. Obviously, if a Golf crashes into a Tiguan, the Tiguan's passengers will be safe, but it's a different matter if a Tiguan crashes into a Golf. Or if a BMW X5 crashes into a Golf, how safe would the Golf be in that case? And at this point the test is very outdated, cars have become much heavier and the number of crossovers has increased a lot.

    Within in the last years it got common that all of the side airbags open in a frontal crash. Does anyone know why? I don't really see a security gain.

      To prevent possible glass shards from entering the cabin and hurting occupants. Incredibly wasteful but if your front airbags deploy you’ve already ruined everything. As soon as the chassis is bent it’s almost impossible to get fixed without your insurance proclaiming it as a total
