Sending this to my mom immediately. Her doodle usually has to be shaved by the groomer to get the mats out. I think all she uses is a wire brush - obviously that’s not good enough! These tips are so helpful, thank you!

    Mr. Logan , ( my first dog when I was 5 , was a beagle named Logan ) ...
Can I say , your love of dogs is so evident . You make me laugh .
Just got a new wonderful American bulldog. My 14 year old shnowser died last year. Dogs make life worth living .
    What you do is special.
    Thanks . Tom .

Have a Maltese that has a longer coat. Great information. I’ve noticed that wearing coats/sweaters in the winter 🥶 also leads to more knots. Only wear when needed. Also checking his armpits for tangles.

Omg when I tell you that we had a shih tzu that was so matted he was like a blanket! I had only saw him once in the 14 months I've been there. And it was really early on when I first started. This poor baby had his inner thighs so matted it was tugging on his groin. I wanted to cry for him. My mentor tried to get the owners to bring him more but they bitch about having to pay the 58 dollars every time. She could very easily charge more.

Harley looks exactly like the Goldendoodle I rescued out of the road in November. Frankie's first spa day is on Thursday. We have been brushing her since she's been here and will continue between haircuts. Thank you so much for the tip about the spray. It's on my shopping list. I can't wait for her to get all that hair shaved out from between her paws! My dog's hair isn't curly like this dog's. It's wavy and goes in all different directions. I've never seen anything like it and it will be interesting to hear what the groomer has to say. Thank you so much for the educational video. I'll be saving it to reference in the future.

A good, stiff slicker goes through matting. I have a soft bristle slicker that I now only use to dry. It's worthless on mats. Also. Listen to the sound when brushing. A good slicker "talks." Oh,when owners say they're brushing their dog or cat, it's usually with a pin brush which is only good when light brushing is needed- like in the show ring or for show poodles to keep the fluff. Fifty years showing & 40 years grooming has taught me this.😊

My sister just refuses to brush her golden collie, because "the dog is afraid of the brush". So yeah that could be so, so help her see the brush time as something rewarding with treats etc, but no she doesn't want to do any work. Everytime I see the dog she is covered in mats or shaved to the skin. I hate it, she has such a beautiful coat and doesn't deserve to be shaved.

Logan, what an awesome, awesome video!! 😊 As I am a pet stylist myself, you did an awesome job explaining how important it is to brush your dog and you actually showed the tools you use. And explained how to use those tools. I am going to save this video and show clients it. So, they can watch it. It is a very good tool to show clients. I try to explain to clients what they must do to keep up on the coat of the dog. Most people r visual learners. So, I can tell them about this video or send them the video. Logan, YOU ARE doing such a BEAUTIFUL job with grooming your dogs. You, r a joy to watch. And am so happy I found you.
I groom a st. Bernard standard poodle mix named Wilson. I have been grooming him for 2 years now. And I LOVE that dog. His mom brushes him and really does take care of his coat. In between getting groomed. His mom gets it. That she has to brush him to keep me having to shave him down. I LOVE being a pet stylist. It is by far the BEST job I have ever had in my 40 plus years of being in the working world.

The issues with cross-breeding are many, but I hadn’t considered coat “mixes”. With the mixing of breed genetics you can end up with a dream doodle (like Harley--she’s a sweetheart) or a mixed-up crazy doodle that doesn’t know which way is up. Thank you for the brushing lesson. I don’t have a pup right now, but this is so interesting! Great “new dog baby gift” ideas: brushing spray and the right tools!

You do such a good job explaining. We have an Aussiedoodle. And to be honest, getting her to the groomer every 3 weeks or even every 6 weeks is VERY expensive. I am aware that it is a ton of work, so the price is definitely legit. We live in Austria, not sure if it's cheaper in the US. I started grooming her myself the last 4 years (she is 8 now). So I have some experience, but definitely no pro. I was wondering if you could explain a bit more how exactly you groom her. I appreciate your videos. Thanks.

    • @labachaterairlandesa
      @labachaterairlandesa ปีที่แล้ว

Short or smooth coated? For my smooth coated dogs, we used a hound glove. It had tan bristles made out of sisal or something similar, not the rubber bristled kind. I think we bought it at a dog show. Gets to coat pretty soft and removes the dead hair without hurting the dog like a brush or comb would. I’m not sure about short haired dogs. I’ve never had one. I’d do a Google and find a reputable website.

I keep my two cockapoos trimmed to a kennel cut but take them for grooming about every 3-4 months (I trim their nails and paws in between). I use a short pin brush but use one hand to push their fur up and then use the other hand to brush the fur back down with the brush; I always see the line of skin where I’m brushing. The groomer showed this method to me, and their coats have been pretty Matt-free. Both my dogs hate me touching their tails with the brush, but I’m bigger than them and can get them into a wrestling hold (verrrry gently and followed with lots of treats and praise). They actually like being brushed and it gets more frequent as their coats get longer - every second day or every day. Thank you for this great info - going to look for a brushing spray the next time I go to the pet stuff store. BYE LOGAN👹‼…❤

Here's the problem: i have great pyrenees, who, despite being a dog breed meant to fight off wolves and bobcats and bears, are terrified of brushes. But are still strong enough to fight off wolves and bobcats and bears.
Holding onto collars was obviously not going to work so we also tried attaching a leash to our deck posts so they couldn't run away. One of them tried to jump over the deck rail, which wouldn't hung him. He also almost broke my arm trying to escape. We've tried every method of making them less afraid of brushes, all manner of brushes, and even those blower things people recommend. Interestingly they are less afraid of that, but still afraid of it.

So I have all those tools. But my Pom only tolerates the metal comb. I do the line brushing with this (lift up each section of hair and comb from root down)
He doesn’t seem matted, I’m guessing it’s doing the job, just not making him as pretty/fluffy as the slicker? I do this twice a week but never find any moderate matting. Only a tiny bit in some places.
He also goes to the groomer once a month.

The Artero Naturals flexible, double sided pin brush & their double sided oval long pin brush + Quicker Slicker spray or Chris Christensen Ice on Ice spray are both great choices to get tangles out more easily. Mars 20 tooth Coat King + one of the sprays gently works out Matts. Use the Line Brushing method & brush your dog every day. Break it up into shorter sessions if they get finicky.👍

@@Vexx_Line_ Thank you! I'll check out those products! Brushing Daisy is part of her bedtime routine. She is pretty good for everything but her butt and legs.

No problem! Yeah I hear you about yhe butt & legs lol. Mine is the same, she absolutely refuses to stand, gotta get one of those hang up hammocks or something. They get so dramatic about it 😄.
I think those products will help you out a lot. Most of the time you just need a light misting in an areosolizer, then wirk it into coat. But for tangles or matts spray a little extra to spot saturate it & work through w Les Pooch Matt Zapper or Artero flexible brush & a fine tooth comb. If that doesn't do it, gently work it out w the Mars Coat King.
Best of luck to you & Daisy, take care! 😊

I saw scissors and detanglers in your links but which brushes do you recommend for a maltipom? You are an awesome groomer especially so skilled & knowledgeable yet so young… obviously born for this & totally gifted!

Personally I would suggest a 25mm pin brush and a comb like he used in the video
