My mother, 87yo, was so touched by this rendition (and i was too). She had tears in her eyes as he narrated the story. RIP Edward K. Hermann, u brought a piece of heaven in our lives.
This was my husband's favorite Christmas song, and now it is one of my favorites. He has been gone 5 years this Thursday, but this song gives me faith that we will be too again
I have found that the beauty of the Spirit of Christ can be found all year round in the hearts of all of them who will receive Him; no matter the season. ❤️😊
God bless Edward Herrmann...he was such a great actor and beloved human being. It was wonderful that this was one of his last appearances. Such a tribute to him, as well as to the amazing musicians and directors.
I love this version with Edward Hermann I cry every time. My dad passed away December 23, 2017 and since then Christmas hasn't been my favorite holiday. This helps bring a little peace to me during that holidays
What is it about joy that makes it so much more fruitful when it comes into tragedy-stricken hearts? Such comfort, such hope and triumph of the human spirit this EXPERIENCE of dialogue and music bring!
Christmas Bells I HEARD the bells on Christmas Day Their old, familiar carols play, And wild and sweet The words repeat Of peace on earth, good-will to men! And thought how, as the day had come, The belfries of all Christendom Had rolled along The unbroken song Of peace on earth, good-will to men! Till ringing, singing on its way, The world revolved from night to day, A voice, a chime, A chant sublime Of peace on earth, good-will to men! Then from each black, accursed mouth The cannon thundered in the South, And with the sound The carols drowned Of peace on earth, good-will to men! It was as if an earthquake rent The hearth-stones of a continent, And made forlorn The households born Of peace on earth, good-will to men! And in despair I bowed my head; "There is no peace on earth," I said; "For hate is strong, And mocks the song Of peace on earth, good-will to men!" Then pealed the bells more loud and deep: "God is not dead, nor doth He sleep; The Wrong shall fail, The Right prevail, With peace on earth, good-will to men."
Absolutely so beautiful to hear! I had barely found this song just a week prior, only hearing the instrumental I did not think much of it. Now knowing its origin and its lyrics, this is absolutely fantastic, thank you for recounting such a wonderful story of a dedicated father!
It always has been...trying to get congregations to sing it was a struggle until I wrote out the story in a church bulletin insert years ago. Now, it is a favorite each year.
This song should be played every time on Christmas to remind us that God is not dead, nor doth He sleep🎄
Nine years later and this is still my favorite version of "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day"
I just wish this song would be played more often🙂🎄

That was so beautiful. Here I am listening to this in the middle of April and Covid19 and I am crying. That was awesome!

I used to work for the Herrmann's and they were lovely. Listening to Ed makes me think of lots of stories told over the dinner table. 😊
The MTC Christmas shows are the STANDARD which all others are measured!

Christmas Bells
I HEARD the bells on Christmas Day
Their old, familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet
The words repeat
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!
And thought how, as the day had come,
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along
The unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!
Till ringing, singing on its way,
The world revolved from night to day,
A voice, a chime,
A chant sublime
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!
Then from each black, accursed mouth
The cannon thundered in the South,
And with the sound
The carols drowned
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!
It was as if an earthquake rent
The hearth-stones of a continent,
And made forlorn
The households born
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!
And in despair I bowed my head;
"There is no peace on earth," I said;
"For hate is strong,
And mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!"
Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
"God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The Wrong shall fail,
The Right prevail,
With peace on earth, good-will to men."

I wish the Choir would do the song all the way through. Don't get me wrong, I love the story, but I really love the song!
I would truly love an mp3 version of every part of this production, so I can listen to it over and over throughout the coming years.

Can anyone tell me where to get this script of the story Mr. Herman is reciting from? Not the poem( I have that) but the script for the story
The music was composed by Johnny Marks.
