Great to see Tim & yourself chatting. Love the fact that after all these years, Tim still gets excited & passionate when he speaks! I too also lean towards the same conclusion you have regarding why people were conditioned to eat the way they do... great vid & very relevant info even though it is 1+ years on 👌👍
Great interview. I've been following Prof Tim Noakes for several years even before his epiphany on fat burning as opposed to carbohydrate for athletes. I discovered him through his book Waterlogged because I was suffering a lot with cramp on rides and was wondering if it may have been something to do with hyponatraemia. His advice to "Drink to thirst" was a real revelation and basically cured my cramping problem instantly.
One thing in this video that I can't really get my head around was the concept of insulin using the muscles and liver to get glucose out of the bloodstream to maintain blood glucose levels within a narrow band. I would be extremely interested to learn more about this concept if anyone has any references. I know Prof Tim Noakes was talking about a paper he was working on which covered this but I can't seem to find it anywhere.
Thanks for the video Sean - much appreciated
You’re most welcome! Thanks for the support !
Wonderful interview!
Thank you
Love this interview, also big fan of Tim and you Sean 😉
I’m a passionate cyclist for several years and and I thought like most people that for sporting efforts you had to eat enough carbohydrates, but later in life I was diagnosed with prediabetic and insulin resistant, after reading the books by Stephan Phinney and Jeff Volek. I Also tried the ketogenic lifestyle. It may not work for everyone, but at least it does for me. All health complaints disappeared, less fat percentage and more muscle mass. A little jealous of your interview with the “godfather” 😊
Vincent thank you so much for your kind words. Also taking the time to watch the interview.
I am pleased to know you have been successful in curing yourself and enhancing your health. Well done !
Hi Sean, I just saw your video on Chaffee podcast. Could I ask you if you ever had a root canal?
Great interview. Very interesting point at 32min about the milk in your coffee. I think i have felt a similar effect. Im just a little bit confused where Tim says its impossible to ride 5-8 hours without carbohydrates. Do i need to start injesting carbs at hour 4? Maybe it depends how long you have been on the keto diet and how fat adapted you are
Thank you ! So the current understanding with the research done he believes it is so, he is convinced it is isolated to me, however my girlfriend who rode flatbox harder than she ever had in her life before (5hrs36min) for 198km did that without refuelling. She was only keto for 1 and a bit prior to that
@@seansako 1 and a bit years?
That is impressive
@@seansako Also i tried to quit the coffee because i believed it was causing an insulin spike and giving me cravings for sugar. After watching this i think it could have been the small amount of milk that i was adding
@@narmo7989 yup ! She is a very determined person. She also had good guidance 😉
@@narmo7989 I think the deeper you go into your reserves the more sensitive you get with regards to any substance that can potentiate your insulin.
Enjoying a cappuccino mid ride became a thing of the past for me. A cappuccino for me on a rest day is kinda the furthest thing I will do as a cheat day
Yes, I’m shocked the video is still up! 😂 You know you’re tapping into truth when you’re about to get cancelled and/or there’s a disclaimer below your video. Speak on
Thanks for watching!
