Install the new hose with the wire clips in their final closed position. That way you know the hoses are installed properly as you physically see the clips spring out and then back in as well as hearing it click in place. As demonstrated by the fact you were able to immediately pull off the connector to the block as the clip didn’t catch on the fitting.
