Huawei P30 Pro Camera Review | More than a telephoto gimmick?

- Review of the Huawei P30 Pro's quad-lens camera, including that upgraded 5x telephoto lens for impressive zoom, and the new ToF lens. The hardware sure sounds impressive, but how's the photo and video quality? Chris has been testing the P30 Pro for a few days now and here's his final verdict on that camera tech.
The story around this 2019 flagship phone is of course the upgraded optics - Huawei has made quite a few tweaks compared with last year’s Mate 20 Pro, slapping in a new 40MP Super Spectrum primary lens with a wider f/1.6 aperture. This increased light sensitivity means better low light performance, at least in theory.
One aspect of Huawei’s smartphone cameras that’s now been nicked by many rivals is the tri-lens setup. You can switch between these three lenses at any time, to get a different viewpoint - there’s a 20MP UWA lens to capture a panorama effect with one tap, plus a funky new 8MP telephoto lens with an all-new periscope design.
And that’s not all, because you also get a Time of Flight lens - this can accurately measure the distance between the P30 Pro and whatever you’re aiming at, which could mean more accurate portrait shots.

No one mentions the super macro mode. Use a lower resolution with it and it's insane, I don't know if you've used it much

Hey! Thanks very much for this review; I've just bought it and am finding my way around and EVERY tip/insight is really helpful. I have a question: on my old mobile (Samsung) I was able to pinch down the hashtags and mentions in Instagram stories to a really small size, and now with Huawei P30 Pro the minimum size I get is still too big! Anyone have the same problem....? Is there some workaroud?
how to take picture with no bunker ( no blur at all) i keep getting blur background when taking picture when a person in it.

You're unfair to panorama functionality, which is still a valuable adjunct to a wide lense 🤨
Can anyone confirm if the p30 can record 4k video from the 5x optical Lens?? I looked at a p30 for a few minutes at a local shop the other day and It *appeared* as if recording video would default back to the main lens... so if you wanted 5x VIDEO it would only crop off the main sensor. The result was blurry video worse than the s10.
What good is a 5x optical lens if it shoots stills only? The Samsung s10 allows 4k video to be recorded from the 2x lens WITH optical stabilization included. So the p30 should at least allow 4k video from each lens.
How revolurionary is that RYYB sensor? Will everyone soon be using RYYB instead of RGB?
I definitely hope not, the results of terrible colours that are totally inaccurate no wonder the main manufacturers of cameras will like use these sensors..
Still saving up for the P20 pro that will do me justice I have the p20 lite not liking it not one bit with no Leica lenses

So big boy.. at the moment I could swap my old iPhone 6s for a note 9 for 500ish is this still worth getting I really don't want to spend around 900 on a phone been a tight Yorkshire git
Bad opinion about the phone comes from the owners or the watchers? I own the phone and can say that it is a feature not a gimmick for sure.
That reddish glow on the vid at 4:15 is infuriating.

The video quality on P30 pro is making the people look like having a sunburn 🙄
First of all i have to tell that if u use this phone for photography u need to have patient with the setting for a particular scene... it is not a point to shoot camera phone u have to be familiar with the setting inorder to get good photo... the auto mode looks dull... the only good feature is just the telephoto lends and night mode... night mode is good a capturing still image but if theres is moving object it will be ruined up.... as there is no autofocus for night mode...

Too much oversharpening and oversaturation. Unreal colors. Red flowers harms vision! And no critical analysis anywhere. Yes, great to see in the dark instead of turning on the lights, but I don´t think Night Mode will be that great in the disco
Colours that completely inaccurate with this new sensor no reason the main manufacturers of camera sensors, will not use this stupid array of r y b.. and the telephoto lens is not sharp at all, I have use this and it's not that good.. definitely a gimmick at the moment...
They'll fix it in software I'm sure. Also, early deliveries of the handset didn't have stabilisation on the Tele lens. Latest firmware added it
