    Yeah totally, Tywin's children represent his aspects very well, but they are even exaggerated versions of each aspects, as in, his children are better at each thing than he was.
    Cercei - Ruthlessness (e.g. Castamere) and Ruling power and Duty
    Jaime - Battle courage
    Tyrion - Political cunning

      Love that point. Agree with you completely ~ they are all amplified parts of Tywin. Great breakdown.

    Only these many comments and these many subs!? Criminal! You’re doing great work here, I hope you will receive more exposure. The dynamic between Tyrion and Tywin, their duality and synthesis were extremely impactful to me as I read the books. From the moment Tyrion was introduced I felt a connection to his character and that only grew deeper as I learned more.

      WOW! Thank you, A.J... such a lovely compliment. ☺️ Totally agree with you about their relationship; there is a duality AND synthesis that creates such friction between them ~ Love the depth & flaws of these characters. Amazing that you felt a connection with Tyrion’s character from his introduction, as well. Xx

      @@susannalouise5502 Their dynamic is so resounding to me because I believe I see parts of myself in both characters, and therefore I see their outward struggle as a personification of my own inner conflicts. George really knows how to make his readers connect to his wide array of characters. Btw, you are very welcome, it is deserved! I’m looking forward to digging into your other content as well, particularly your analyses of Anakin and Frodo. ♥️

      @@susannalouise5502 I’m sure I will enjoy them thoroughly, this video sets a great precedent! Oh yes, very cathartic - practically therapeutic. See, I am able to see myself in Tywin with his fixation on personal and family legacy, his disgust towards weakness and with his hypocrisy regarding his more base desires; and I saw myself in Tyrion the very first time he was introduced, him with his mismatched eyes and twisted body (I was disabled after an operation done on me as a child) his bookish and witty nature, being all around underestimated by his peers and turning toward creature comforts to cope with his trauma. When I see the father and son metaphorically cross swords, I see my own dual nature in conflict, two halves of myself competing for dominance. Seeing Tyrion slay his father, renounce his family and watching his gradual self improvement has stuck with me since I read the words and it was very helpful in my own self improvement journey. I cannot wait to see what George has in store for Tyrion in the next books! (If they are ever released...)

      @@a.j.carter2294 Yes, fingers crossed the books are released & we see the completion of George's vision. Totally understand the therapeutic aspect of connecting with fictional characters, especially flawed ones! You are very astute in saying that the conflict of Tyrion & Tywin vying for dominance captures a psychological conflict that we all experience. Love that others feel such catharsis from identifying with morally ambiguous characters, thank you! x

      @@susannalouise5502 My father made our family look week, we wouldn't realize he was mocked and just laugh about it. Then he divorced our my mother and my fiance left me. So all I had in my life was my brother and my dumb and weak father. Since this happened I have barely laughed or smiled or made a joke myself. I would call out people how moronic they were and if someone made a joke about me I would stare at them until they were uncomfortable and left the room or even a "party". • @drippinwet774
      @drippinwet774 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tyrion is smart to not inherit his father's enemies.
      Tywin's final lesson was to seek your own justice.
      Relying on courts based primarily on faith and groupthink is not a sound bet versus reliance on power and bribery; the Game is not in your favor here, Tyrion acknowledges this by aligning his future goals with the goals of his father's enemies.
      Once enemies; they are now key allies and Game winners according the most recent season, Tywin died happy albeit on the shitter.
      The Lannister legacy will continue; with Players on opposing sides, lets hope Tyrion's seed Game is as strong as his influence Game.

    Why you look at his character, as a result of traumas? Why you frame your thinking and examination around the sole criteria “result of traumas”. How about inner guide and talent that pushes him towards his development.
    I understand and respect the effort and certainly has its place in the examination.
    Human beings and their characters are not only “Here is the trauma, and here is why your are that”. Frame it that way you are looking for traumas to fit the final characteristics of personality. So you see the result and try to fit what traumas makes sense for that result.
    But if the result involves more things than trauma, then that is very simplistic way to look, examine or judge the character.
    Share what you think on that if you’d read it.

    • @susannalouise5502
      @susannalouise5502  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting point, Aleksander - I understand how it seems that I jump to a conclusion and crowbar in the trauma. However, the way I do an analysis is I look for significant turning points in a character's life and go from there. In Tywin's case, I felt the trauma of seeing his father's failure/reputation humiliation and losing his wife were important.
      Agree with you that his talent and inner guide are a part of his success. What spurns this discipline is his goal of reforming his house and Lannister legacy; I feel that is at the heart of all his actions and decisions.
      I'd really like to know your thoughts - what do you think shapes his actions?

      Very interesting point. She was born into immense privilege & has no compunction about doing heinous things.
      She is highly manipulative, though ‘not as clever as she thinks’ (Tywin). I feel she is shrewd, albeit flawed.
      She killed Robert & masked it as a drunken accident.
      She thwarted Ned Stark, destroyed the Faith Militant & takes out Margaery.
