  • I have had Apple Watch Series 1-7 but this month I decided to try out a Garmin Watch. These are 3 reasons I feel you should look into any Garmin Watch instead of upgrading your existing Apple Watch.

    Just switched to Garmin as I am done with carrying my charger everywhere I go, and would like to start tracking my sleep without being slaved to a charger all the time. I’m a fitness novice, but the Garmin Connect app has started to motivate me to take it to the next level with analytics.

    I’ve had Apple Watches over about 5 years; like you I’m a big Apple fan. I just took delivery of my new Garmin Instinct yesterday though and my reasons are:
    1/ Yes, the Watch was a ‘mini iPhone’ (I have LTE), but as time passes more third party apps are disappearing. Messaging apps, Uber… it’s getting so the watch is just about fitness and it’s losing its use case for other stuff.
    2/ Apple doesn’t improve apps much. Music is clunky, and for some reason it won’t let me store more than 4GB music on my (mostly empty) 32GB phone. Just becoming annoying.
    3/ A month of battery life on the Garmin - what a joy!
    4/ The Apple Watch hasn’t really changed in look in all these generations. I’m just growing tired of it.

    I bought the first original Apple Watch and I’ve bought every iteration since. In 16’ I purchased my first Garmin watch, the 630 and I would only use it for running and the Apple Watch as a daily driver type of watch. I purchased the Fenix 6 a couple of years ago and used it the same way, as a secondary watch just for runs and all other type of exercises. When I got my hands on the Epix 2 it totally blew me away! Now I use my Apple Watch as a secondary device just for the LTE so I don’t have to take my phone with me out on runs. If Garmin ever puts a similar type of LTE in the Epix then it would be totally game over. Unless Apple puts a better battery in the watch, I don’t see myself ever going back.

    • @Aesthetic_Al
      @Aesthetic_Al  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Exactly!! I was hoping this epix 2 when announced would have had LTE. Will see if Apple announced another type of Watch this year.

    • @canyonblue737-8
      @canyonblue737-8 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thats actually the rumor this year… that alongside the AW Series 8 this fall they will offer a new “rugged” edition of the AW with a more sports focus. Now I haven’t seen anything specifically about battery but you’d hope that if “rugged” and larger they would put a bigger battery into the model to at least give enough life for even the longest marathon runners or maybe even triathletes or full day hikers. I would imagine it wont ever reach the levels of Garmin with the Epix but if it even doubled the life of the existing AW it would really go a long way to fixing the real battery life issues that all AW users understand.

      I am going to be in the same dilema, bought the fenix 7x and waiting for it to arrive. Currently have AW series 7 LTE version. Do you wear both watches when you run? I usually don't carry my phone when I run outside but now that I am getting the Fenix 7x debating on how I am going to manage both watches.

    Great review! I have newest Apple Watch but am beyond frustrated with the step counter being off as it’s a big deal for me. Workouts are also off on calories burned when comparing it to my husbands galaxy watch and a Fitbit. Also, I try to send texts from my watch & they say they sent and didn’t. So many resets and so many troubleshoots. Over it! On a binge to determine what’s next for me. I don’t think I can do a ring when lifting

    • @Aesthetic_Al
      @Aesthetic_Al  ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad this video was able to help. Oh the Oura ring was the worst when powerlifting for me. I didn’t get a chance to make a TH-cam on it only TikToks. Maybe check out the Garmin forerunner 255 music. If you’re very much into lifting. You might like features like the body battery and all the recovery tools. Along with automatic rep counting. Workout calendars log. It’s not 💯 perfected but its in the right direction. Something that apple doesn’t offer unless using different 3rd party apps.

  • @paulcarpenter2847
    @paulcarpenter2847 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Great Review. I completely agree with you on the apple watch apps. Why don't they consolidate the apps and make something similar to Garmin Connect? Honestly, I just bought the series 7 to try it out because I have all other Apple products except for my watch is a Garmin Fenix 5s plus. But I am going to return the Apple watch because my main use for the watch is fitness and Apple 3 apps don't even come close to Garmin Connect. TBH I don't mind the battery life on the Apple that is not what is stopping me.... it is the lack of fitness data and how unorganized everything seems around the Product. Simple software updates would bring me to the Apple watch we will see what they can do in the future.

    • @Aesthetic_Al
      @Aesthetic_Al  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      1000 agree. A simple software from could fix it but still no updates. I have been using the Garmin Connect now for 45 days and I am enjoying it more and more. I doing their 16 week program for a half marathon. So good!

    Agree for the average user price v battery garmin does come out really well I’ve never had an Apple Watch but I’m pleased with garmin for battery alone - they’re really good visually, app etc but don’t have the whole Apple ecosystem so depends what people are looking for. A good review thanks for posting 👍

    @marissa3248 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Wonderful vid! These are things that I'd have to have both devices (and use for months) to realize, if I'd even ever realize. Especially the ecosystem point, I feel like Apple splitting everything into 3 apps makes me less inclined to keep up with tracking all three stats for personal improvement. A Garmin watch is at the top of my buy list now.

    Great review! and nice comparison with Apple Watch. I have an Apple Watch Series 4, recently it started to give me wrong data, something like I climbed 100 stairs or I made 30 minutes of exercise when the reality is that I was working at my desk the entire day. I tried to re-calibrate it but it didn't work. So I’m considering switching to Polar or Garmin. I usually play tennis three times per week and I was thinking to start a routine too, so I would like to have a smartwatch with more battery and accuracy (related to heart rate and oxygen level). Which one do you recommend? Thanks!

    • @Aesthetic_Al
      @Aesthetic_Al  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the Kind words. 3 things for you. 1st is I made a video on how to better calibrate your Apple Watch if you it helps you can give it a watch. Its goes over what to do on the watch and on the app on your iPhone. Here is the link th-cam.com/video/1KbyF9lVImE/w-d-xo.html
      2nd. If you are looking at "smart watches" and not just a fitness tracker I would go with Garmin > Polar. Coming from iPhone the Garmin connect app destroy the polar App. Especially if you you are thinking about going into a routine. and 3rd in regards to accuracy Garmin just updated 3 of their watches with the newest sensor. The Venu 2 plus, Fenix 7 and Epix2. I would look into the Venu 2 plus because its similar to the price point of the Apple Watch. I believe its 350? the Fenix 7 and Epix 2 which is what I have in the video were really pricey (1,000 US dollar) Venu 2 plus has all the latest sensors in 2022. Hope this helps, I know it's a lot to read.

    I am testing a garmin right now too. And i think the garmin is a very nice sport watch with some smart Features while the apple watch is a smart watch with some Sport Features.
    I really like the garmin at the PRO‘s you mention, but i miss some little tiny things like music Control, multitasking, detailed notification, chnage on statua change (fokus to work) and so on.
    But at the end i am not sure if its worth buying an apple watch… i am really confused

    • @Aesthetic_Al
      @Aesthetic_Al  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good way of putting it! Yes for me I need a sports watch more than a smart watch. Music controls, Siri, Apple Pay, apple wallet that came 2nd. I made this video on what's missing from the Apple Watch Ultra/8 that maybe can help a bit more th-cam.com/video/JrOoBEE8paU/w-d-xo.html

  • @JELEMENT1
    @JELEMENT1 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video, thanks! Liked, subscribed and hit the bell. My question…I was thinking initially about getting a used or refurbished Series 4 Apple watch. Now Garmin seems very tempting for battery life and functioning well during rain runs. I don’t need to make calls or respond to texts. My priority is tracking HR/pace/distance (cadence a bonus) and be able to download music so I can leave my phone at home. I’ll be swimming and weight training as well. What do you feel is the most cost effective version of Garmin that would fit the bill. Thanks in advance for the insight! Looking forward to catching up on past and future videos

    • @Aesthetic_Al
      @Aesthetic_Al  ปีที่แล้ว

      I really appreciate that. I would skip on an Apple Watch immediately when I ready you will be swimming. If your doing laps on the pool. The Apple Watch felt so inconvenient compared to any Garmin. Now that the ultra is out, with the new action button that might change things but if your going for cost efficient. Ultra is $800 so probably a hard pass. Check out the forerunner 255 or the vent 2 plus. fyi the best experience I have had downloading music on Garmin is from Spotify. It works seamless. Amazon music works too but Spotify syncs smoother. Can't have Apple Music on Garmin unfortunately

    Thank you for that Video! I am still kind of on the fence… I have been using an applewatch ever since it came out. A friend gave me his old garmin FR 935 last summer. I started using it for my trainings. Batterylife was incredable. For
    X-Mas i got a fenix 6s and I must say…I love it!!! I am on Marathon Training and the Garmin is watching out for me, that i‘m not running into overtraining. And I love the Garmin Bodybattery…but for that to really work i have to wear it 24/7. So what do I miss using the Garmin as my daily driver?! ApplePay, beeing able to reply to messages, take a phone call and other little things. So…I switch back and forth… 🤷‍♀️ Anything that you miss using the epix?

    • @Aesthetic_Al
      @Aesthetic_Al  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How do you like the Marathon Training. I am going to make a video on this in the future. I start using the marathon training in two weeks and ill be getting content and make some accuracy test between the Garmin, Apple Watch and a $60 Fitness tracker (Fitbit).
      I can tell you what I miss so much using the EPIX. I MISS LTE!! I started using Spotify just because of the Epix. I still have Apple Music but it doesn't support it. So between Apple Music and LTE. I dont like that. The EPIX has more pros than cons for me. THE screen sharpness and brightness make the Apple Watch look like a relic. Especially when im cycling I love that the screen is bright and the size of it. ALSO Garmin CONNECT all the way! I can keep going! Love it 9000!

      I totally agree with this.       @Aesthetic_Al  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just measure my wrist. Its a first for me and mine is 177 MM. It feels really big compared to my Apple Watch 45mm but in a good way in my opinion. I wanted something big that when im running and cycling I can take a quick glance and not have to look down squinting. The screen brightness and quality is so many times better than the Apple Watch series 7 so it really shines. There isn't a single week I dont get asked what watch I have either at a commercial gym or during the run clubs I go to. The only time it maybe be a bit "to big" is sleeping. I’m completely torn as to which one would be better for me! Since I have an iPhone, the Apple Watch would obviously integrate better with all the functions of my phone. It’s also nice to have the LTE built in so I have the peace of mind that I can call for help when i’m not near my phone. I’m just not fond of the short battery life (especially on the LTE version), the basic sleep analysis, and honestly the square shape. I had a trial of the Garmin D2 and it was great! The battery life was over 7 days. But it was really difficult getting Siri to voice respond to texts, some of the widgets would crash, couldn’t use half of my credit cards in garmin pay, and I thought it would have been good to have the ECG feature handy…So pro’s and con’s on each one I guess!

      I feel you. I have had Apple Watch series 1 to 7 and iPhone 2007 model to current iPhone 13 (From my old job we used to get significant employee discounts). We all are different but the only 3 things I do miss are LTE being first. 2nd the quick response message on the Apple Watch. 3rd having to make the switch from Apple Music to Spotify to sync songs for really long runs without needing the phone. Besides that I give Garmin all the PROS. The Garmin Connect App has so much health and fitness information over Apple and thats my main focus at the moment. Of course that could change with Apple series 8 haha

    Does the Garmin connect app now push steps and stand hours to apple health?

    • @Aesthetic_Al
      @Aesthetic_Al  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That would be nice but it only pushes "activities" it treats the Garmin connect app like a 3rd party app. So example I made a short just yesterday where I ran a half marathon this weekend. Since that was about 30,000 steps the activity transferred "that run" (miles,HR,) but since steps and standing was involved that goes towards "closing your rings" but if its not an activity it doesn't . Hope this helps Derek.

      If I understand correctly. The Garmins metric don't transfer to apple fitness or health. You can get your "Garmin Activities" to show in apple fitness/health. (Run, bike, swim, strength training) it would work the same way a 3rd party app connects to apple fitness. Ive been getting this same questions I might maybe a TH-cam short to show everyone in less than 60 seconds. Hope this helps tho Douglas

    while I prefer the aesthetics of Garmin, the whole switch only works if the metrics Garmin measures work for you. Especially the sleep metrics are messing up my recovery data. While everything else to me is better with Garmin, this fact alone makes the experience go south. Appe watches have superior tech and algorithms for data interpretation, IMHO. I will use an Apple watch for sleep and sports while supposedly going for a Withings Scanwatch for everyday use and tracking. Luckily, Withings lets me use the Apple watch sleep and training data in combination with their watch.

    The issue with Apple Watch (and I switched from Fitbit to Apple in 2017, after losing over 60kgs on Fitbit ecosystem) is that they left it to developers to build these features - and no serious companies emerged in their ecosystem. Athlytic app adds a lot of these stress and recovery features - it's built by a lone developer who has no experience in health, is not a researcher, is not a doctor. Garmin on the other hand has a solid research backing to these metrics and openly publish. No serious health company with real research actually backed the Apple Watch.

      Garmin all the way! I love that garmin uses buttons so if you’re running in rain, get the watch wet, swim, or sweat gets on your fingers you can still use the functions on the watch. I only wish nike run club was better integrated with garmin. I listen through my phone / airpods but the phone tracks my split faster than my garmin & when it comes to finishing the run, it looks like i did 2 runs. If there was a function for nike to track the data from garmin for their guided runs we’d be mint.

      one of my probably silly hesitations is that apple seems to have the most accurate monitors for most things, especially heart rate (and reports are sleep tracking will be the best as well). Wish apple could just improve battery already (and appearance :P )

    • @Aesthetic_Al
      @Aesthetic_Al  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Only Activity Calories on a Garmin will show on Apple Health/fitness allowing you to close rings. It gets treated like a 3rd party app. So your workouts show on apple health but nothing to sleep, step count...etc Hope this clarifies it. tbh tho the Garmin connect is what I am enjoying over apple health. for me personally. Apple health is superior for more concerning medical conditions and health concerns.

  • @nexe7128
    @nexe7128 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you see any differences in calories, steps or other measurements? Im looking for sport watch, but i started to considering apple watch, because i like the design, interface, that i can check all notifications and answer messages, also because of LTE and fact that i dont have to take phone with me. I think its very convinient for everyday life. Garmin epix is much more expensive than apple watch, its out of my budget. I know there are some cheaper ones, but in general im not a big fan of how they look like, but sitll all measurements are important for me. Its not a problem for me to charge apple watch every evening, but that garmin app is actuallly very nice. Would you recomend AW7 to simple everyday workout, not actually outdor, most of my workouts are at the gym or home. The only outdor training will be that walk and cycling. Most imortant for me is how it measure callories, steps, and pulse.

    • @Aesthetic_Al
      @Aesthetic_Al  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for sharing a little bit about you. This is me over simplifying it but I feel like if someone is going to workout stationary meaning at home or at a gym (Strength Training, Treadmill, Elliptical, stationary bike, etc) and are actually ok with charging it daily. Yeah Apple Watch should be good. The Apple Watch SE is a solid value. If you ever see yourself taking your training a bit further to do a half marathon, or more strenuous hikes, Backpacking or travel often a Garmin is a better bet. I love working out almost every day and my batter last me 5 days easy. Also the Garmin Connect I would say is better for athletes. but Apple is better for people more focus on general health. In regards to accuracy I have on March 25th a video coming out where I test the two for a multiple days on Step Count. Sports going on a 5k run, and going on a 20 mile bike ride. I have to finish doing more tests but that video will come out last friday of this month. Hope this helps.

    The point is: how precise are the Garmin’s watches?? Looking at the “The quantified scientist” channel, garmin is no doing so well. The most precises watches are Apple Waches on tracking fitness and tracking sleep and HR. So that’s why the battery drain so fast, because it keeps reading more accurate than the other. It looks that Apple delivers what he promise meanwhile other ones probably not.

    Reasons:
    1.- You're an elite athlete
    2.- You think you're an elite athlete and you need a lot of battery and data to check your performing.
    3.- You think you will reach to be an elite athlete lifestyle in a near term and you don't care about smartwatch capabilities, plus you hate to charge your apple watch every 2 or 3 days.
    Otherwise it makes no sense, if you don't need super long battery, or super complicated data, and you are completely or very immerse in the apple ecosystem you'll be just fine with an apple watch, or even a low profile garmin like a venu 2, or forerunner 955.

      Bullocks, Apple Watches are overrated. I owned Apple Watch 7 series for two years and it just annoyed me coz battery life is rubbish. Cant even go through full day without charging it every 10h. Its ridiculous amount of money for watch that can’t even keep batter for at least 2-3 days. Also as the guy says, active app is waste of time. I am no gym rat but I’d love to see my whole day stats without downloading more apps. Basically if you are not an apple die hard fan, then save couple hundred dollars and buy something that will last longer and do the same thing if not even better.
