For me it's orange. It's just not a color I am drawn to and other than using it with rainbow colors or with pink/red and yellow, I find it hard to be creative when picking out a color palette
@hawkpaul8735 metalics will always be thinner because of the type of pigment. Mixing your metalics a bit thicker than the rest of your paints will keep that color separation. If metalics are too thin, they make a shiny haze over the other colors. If you're going for that, great! If you'd rather more disinclined, make the silver a bit thicker! Like if all your paints have a 2 count trace, make the silver a 3 count trace!
David, I am a true beginner. I have never done acrylic pouring before but once. I really don't know what I'm doing. What pour is a good one for a total beginner like me? I wanted to try a Dutch pour, but someone said it was a harder pour to try with the hairdryer. What are your thoughts? Thanks!
I am new to this technique and out of the hundreds of other videos I’ve watched no one has explained this in such detail like you did. Thank you so so so much.
I wish this video had been around when I first started. I watched loads of videos but nobody was as helpful as you are. A phrase I heard a lot was 'make your paint the consistency of warm honey'. As I'd never seen warm honey it meant nothing. Your mound upon a mound etc was much more logical to hear. Thanks for everything you've done David. I'm sure this video will help people new to the hobby.
Just started acrylic paint, haven’t done any real painting yet because I’m afraid I might not be good at it. But watching this video has give courage to start tomorrow, do my first piece of art, lol. Thank you very much for all those tips and advice. I went and bought my apron. Will be checking your other videos. Love your explanations. Easy to understand.
This by far is the best video out there for beginners who are ready to pour! Really appreciate all the helpful tips and everything I need to get started!
Thank you very much for your videos. You are a wonderful teacher. I just turned 83 years old and decided to do something different. I bought my canvas and tools and started to pour. I made some big mistakes and then I found you. I am watching all your videos now. This has been probably two months since I started. Now I am pausing and learning the right way. However, when I show to people what I already painted they love them. So, that encourage me to learn more and do it right. Thanks again.
This is a really brilliant tutorial!! I have wanted to start but been afraid I would waste all my money and stuff it up - you have given me the confidence to start!
I've learned more from you about acrylic pouring than any other artist on yt. Thank you so much for teaching HOW to mix, pour, etc.; & sharing your knowledge & talent with everyone.
Wow!! This is one of the best acrylic pouring videos that I have ever watched. You have a amazing way of explaining everything in a way that makes things less intimidating. I can’t wait to start pouring. Thank you.
I painted a little in high school, then in 2015 my mom wanted me to do a painting for her. It had been so long, I found myself watching TH-cam videos and discovered FLUID ART! 300+ paintings later... I still get confused about all the different "Formulas" and "Techniques"! My studio, lol is in my 100 year old basement and the floor is NOT level... Your videos have made things much better! Thanks David!
You have such the gentle hands and the gentle “Bob Ross” voice! Especially knowing what you do, did, are trained for. It’s just amazing. So is your work. I’m SO happy to see you still enjoying it!!
Starting this week David! Thanks for this video. I'm out gathering what I'll need to begin pouring. I'm excited. I'm a semi-retired professional tour entertainer and have contemplated doing this for about 5 years now. Your video pushed me into get off my behind and start enjoying a new hobby. I'll show you my first pouring. Thanks again! God bless you! Here we go! 😊👍👌
I just did my first pour and it came out amazing! However, if I hadn’t watched these videos, I would have had a hot mess. I bought a beginners set, and the instructions for mixing their medium with their paints made it WAY too thin! So I used all of your tests and got it right. I am so excited! Thank you for giving us these lessons. I normally do acrylic paintings that are very detailed landscapes. So this was a breath of fresh air 😂
Just a friendly tip, if you put the paint (the thickest) into the cup first then the glue (the second thickest) , mix them, then add the water (the thinnest) into that a little at a time you'll have an easier time emulsifying them.
I’ve been watching pouring for a couple of years but find myself backing off. I just would feel I just didn’t know. It’s funny how you “run into “ different people. I definitely needed this video. Thank you! 😊
I like to let the paint dry and then make jewelry with it. I like to catch it on the plastic side of freezer paper. When dry the paint peels right off. You can also tilt the paper to to spread out the paint and adjust the composition.
You are not just a great teacher, David, but such a sweet guy. I love learning from you. I also need to know the why of things as it helps me to retain what I've learned. I really appreciate all you do and your encouragement.
Unbelievably, I had never heard of or seen any acrylic pour paintings before, and I'm 69 years old! Fortunately for me, l stumbled across one of your videos the other day and l was instantly hooked. I've just ordered my first couple of canvases and some paints and l can't wait to start painting. Thank you for inspiring an old bloke to paint again after so many years.😊
Thank you, thank you, David!💋 So many "Artist's" out there, that show what they can do, never fully explain or help you develop unless you subscribe or pay, to become better in chosen mediums, with them! You, my lovely, are a special soul, with your sharing and not adhering to making a fast buck with a few wee tantalising ideas! I love doing my Landscapes. But needing to stretch out into something new! Pours are so tantalisingly and different, and family and friends will be blown away, with me going out on a new adventure! Love you!❤❤😊
Your video just appeared on my feed, I have no idea how but I was so pleased. I've been trying to work out how to do this successfully for Bout 3 years now. I bought the supplies and have tried a few times without any success. After listening to what you said in the first few minutes made so much sence to me and during the video everything started to fall into place in my mind. Thank you so much and now I will be going back to watch all your videos and then I will try creating one for myself. Yahoo
From watching this video today, I realized I torched my paintings too long and too close. I just did one of the ring pours you showed us and it turned out great. Thank you so so much
David you are a godsend. Thank you so much for this video, because this tutorial is well needed for beginners, such as myself. Most of the designers make it seem as if no prep is needed before you start. You answered all questions that beginners need to know… And I thank you for that. This was very helpful, you explained everything to a T. Well done.👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
This is absolutely the best video for beginners or anyone on YT for pouring. Your information, presentation abd demonstrations are invaluable. Thank you so much for sharing this video with us. It is anazing.
Thank you so very merry much! I’m so encouraged because you’ve explained how to keep it at a reasonable price 🎉 we can make masterpieces that we’ve always wanted to. Bless you all for wonderful masterpieces to delight and to sell!
Your methodical approach to acrylic pouring is a fusion of art and science that I love about your videos. I have too many other hobbies to start up acrylic pouring. But, your videos provide information and tips that are also helpful for other craft applications using acrylic paints and/or mica pigments. 😀
Wow!! This is one of the most informative acrylic pouring videos I have ever watched. You have got an amazing way of explaining everything in a way that makes things less intimidating. I can’t wait to get started. Thank you.
Thank you so much for your videos…They are so easy to understand and follow because you explain everything as you go and don’t keep secrets about how you accomplish your techniques! I had been trying for two years to get cells to my satisfaction and became so frustrated that I stopped painting all together….all the other artists just added to my frustration….but now after watching your videos, I’m ready to begin again and feel more confident that I will be happy with my efforts! Thank you again David! From a tired old lady….😂…..Peace!! Out!! 🌹
This is an EXCELLENT video, and your narration is perfect! I have been painting for over 20 years and started pouring many years ago by trial and error with a lot of waste. this is a game changer for those who are just starting out. I love your teaching method!
I love acrylic pouring w/ a blowdryer to spread it out! So much fun! I have created 5 paintings that are super cool and I now feel accomplished as an actual artist! Thanks for making videos, so many people can learn a lot by watching them. Experimenting on your own is also very important, but the pro tips help so you don't waste time/money. Thanks LBA!
Thank you for this video! I'm certain there are others out there, but this is the first one to break it down in an understandable way. You very simply provide what needs to be known about mixing paints and what to use for beginners. Once again, thank you!
Wow!!! Loved this video! I am also a left brained person and finally someone understood this about a lot of us. Everything in a logical organized reasoned way. Thank you so much. After watching my first video with you, my head is not spinning with, “what if I do it wrong” and all those other insecurities.
Glad it was helpful! Also, we can't be afraid of failure. Failure is by far the best teach and we should be embracing it. You will learn so much more if you start and fail. 8)
I also need to learn with step-by-step instructions as well as know the why's, what's, how's etc. This is THE MOST informative video on TH-cam!! Thank you so much. I am so new to this (haven't even done a pour yet) and have spent hours and hours watching videos on TH-cam and NOBODY explains and demonstrates like you do. Brilliant video!! Thank you so much.
Thank you for this clear video for mixing up the colors the right way. I just made my first pour with water. Terrible but I’m just beginning 😃. Much thanks from the Netherlands 🇳🇱 greetings Marian
THE video to start with as a newbie!! After lot’s of other video’s, I was still missing so many levels of “understanding”! Thank you for your left brain!
I am a WHY person as well. Once I know the Why I understand it and most of the time don't have any other questions. Just at the mixing point and really enjoying the video. Makes so much sense to me. Thanks. I'll watch to the end.
This is the third video of yours I have watched you have great teaching delivery and I have spent a small fortune on different flow improvers etc and still no cells was going to give up but will keep watching your advice.👍
Thank you!! I needed that message tonight… To get off my a*s & go do a painting tonight! It’s been so long & I’ve been hanging to so I’m gonna finish this quarter pounder watching ur video & off I go.. Wish me luck!! lol 🎉😂❤
I’m a “traditional” artist. I’ve worked in oils and acrylics for years - ever since poor health sabotaged my IT career. Mostly landscapes with a foray relatively recently into abstract work. My daughter asked me a few weeks ago if I could do a large painting for her & her partner’s bedroom. She wants something either “ocean swirls” or “space/galaxy”. I’d watched pouring videos a few years ago and tried a few little pieces but didn’t really have the space to set something up to handle the mess. My husband told me a couple of weeks ago that I should have said something and promptly created a space for me in the utility room with a plastic lined wooden tray he built from scrap wood. I’ve been watching you and a few other artists and every few days trying a different technique on small 9x12 canvases. Thank you for explaining the reasons behind various things, like why you layer colours in specific ways etc. I”ll keep practicing and keep watching for more inspiration and knowledge.
Thanks a bunch. One of the reasons I'm interested in pours but haven't started is because every video leaves out important information, or uses terms pourers understand, but I don't. I've been trying to hit a lot of beginner videos so I can fill in some of those gaps. Then I found yours. Very helpful!
I really appreciate how clear & concise this video was. I have watched a lot of paint pouring videos & yours is by far the best teaching video I have seen, so thank you!
You are a fabulous teacher! Every aspect of mixing is covered! Thank you! Think I will be able to start after watching your video! I have been watching for days and didn’t know where to begin!!! Think I can make a go of it now. Once again…THANK YOU!! You have a new devoted student.!
Thank you for this. I need to rewatch and take notes. One of my big questions is what to use as a pouring medium. There are so many variations out there. I will start with paint, a jar of pouring medium and water. I have all of that and a TON of different paints. Tammy also has great videos but again, so many different recipes. I will have more questions as I go along. I have to get started!
Start with glue or floetrol. Tons cheaper than other mediums and once you master that you can move to the more expensive ones or adding different mediums together.
I am loving your channel! Even though I’m only 2:20 mins in, I AM SO GRATEFUL for your approach to the - what seems like rocket science! I need step by step and WHY! Thank you for even saying that! Ok I’m gonna get into it (your video) now. Xoxo🤗
So many great tips....and I especially love that you have paint smudges on the shoulder of your shirt! That's totally me, so I've learned that I needed clothes dedicated to painting; more than just an apron! 😅
Wow, thus is the best video I have seen. The consistency and leveling tip blew me away. I have watched many pouring videos and none has explained the tricks of pouring. Now I am more confident to try acrylic pouring. Thank you very much.
This is why I absolutely LOVE your videos. I'm a former developer and now I'm a systems requirements analyst. I 'feel' art through requirements. Requirements are art. Acrylic painting is such a perfect venue for the combo of art and analytics. All art is based on analytics and experience just like software dev. All artists know their medium. You are a true open source artist.
@@LeftBrainedArtist Its real. Get used to being a successful teacher of what you don't 'feel'. That's a compliment don't take it the wrong way cause Imma going to recommend you all that I can.
I was experimenting and managed to get some nice results with a light brown and a nutmeg brown and orange, yellow, and dark copper. Sort of a Halloween vibe. The dutch pours on a white background turned out surprisingly good.
what is good about him is that he is not so wasteful, he avoids that by measuring every liquid he uses. Thats wonderful. Now am going to pour painting..i never appreciate others lecturing bec they do a lot of waste..Painters need to protect their environment too..
So much great info! I have been wanting to try acrylic painting but I also needed to understand the basics so I wouldn't spend lots of $$ while learning. Can't wait to begin! ❤
Thanku so much, very informative tutorial. Im one of those people that have all the paints and equipment but am a lil anxious about doing pouring. U have made this far less daunting 😊 thanku very very much, I actually feel alot better about the whole process 😅😊❤
@@LeftBrainedArtistThanku so much, im familiar with failure 😅 but if u never give it a go, you.ll never know right. Thanku so much for replying and your kind words..😊
I smiled at your comment about the power of hair dryers. I have a speckled brick garage wall and a bit of a harlequin concrete floor thanks to the hair dryer method. I have a heat gun and a gas burner so I guess I can ditch the hair dryer.
Thank you so much for explaining the reason for scraping off the drips. You are wise. I thoroughly enjoyed your video and appreciate the details in mixing, pouring, layering, etc. Great job!
New to acrylic pouring and I have been struggling with ratio's of paints and pouring mediums. So glad I found your video you explain so easy to understand thank you.
I'm glad I found this video from you! I have a lot of school glue that I ordered from Amazon, and now I have a way to use the glue. I even have a bottle of extra strength Amazon glue, which is just like Elmer's Glue-All. I've got tons of clear glue, too. Thank you again for this!
I know, brown isn't everyone favorite color. Other than brown, what colors do you find it hard to work with?
For some reason I always have trouble with silver. It always vanishes.
I am so new to this (haven't even done a pour yet) and have spent hours and hours watching videos on TH-cam and NOBODY explains and demonstrates like you do. Brilliant video!! Thank you so much.
Glad it was helpful!
You are a very good teacher. I love this video. Thank you David. 👍👍
You are very welcome Violette. Have you started pouring yet?
@@LeftBrainedArtist yes and i tried a swipe.
Thank you for this clear video for mixing up the colors the right way. I just made my first pour with water. Terrible but I’m just beginning 😃. Much thanks from the Netherlands 🇳🇱 greetings Marian
You can do it!
THE video to start with as a newbie!! After lot’s of other video’s, I was still missing so many levels of “understanding”! Thank you for your left brain!
You're so welcome Kae.
I am a WHY person as well. Once I know the Why I understand it and most of the time don't have any other questions.
Just at the mixing point and really enjoying the video. Makes so much sense to me. Thanks. I'll watch to the end.
Thanks Dorothy.
This is the third video of yours I have watched you have great teaching delivery and I have spent a small fortune on different flow improvers etc and still no cells was going to give up but will keep watching your advice.👍
Let me know if you have more questions Pat. You can do this.
I’ve been watching a lot of acrylic pours and you are the best at explaining the why. Thank you.
You are so welcome Linda. Glad to help. Let me know if you have more questions.
Thank you!! I needed that message tonight… To get off my a*s & go do a painting tonight! It’s been so long & I’ve been hanging to so I’m gonna finish this quarter pounder watching ur video & off I go.. Wish me luck!! lol 🎉😂❤
How did it go Lyndell?
I have been pouring because of you and have made art I like!!! Thank you❤❤❤
That is amazing to hear Eileen.
Good luck. I'd love to see the pour you do for your daughter when you get to it. Ocean and galaxy are definitley some of my favorites.
Thanks a bunch. One of the reasons I'm interested in pours but haven't started is because every video leaves out important information, or uses terms pourers understand, but I don't. I've been trying to hit a lot of beginner videos so I can fill in some of those gaps. Then I found yours. Very helpful!
You are welcome! If you have more questions just ask.
Great video!! All the basics covered clearly and concisely!!
Great to hear!
Merci de ces explications sur la manière dont les peintures interagissent entre elles, c'est intéressant de le savoir.
Avec plaisir. Heureux de vous aider.
I really appreciate how clear & concise this video was. I have watched a lot of paint pouring videos & yours is by far the best teaching video I have seen, so thank you!
You are so welcome Sue.
You are a fabulous teacher! Every aspect of mixing is covered! Thank you! Think I will be able to start after watching your video! I have been watching for days and didn’t know where to begin!!! Think I can make a go of it now. Once again…THANK YOU!! You have a new devoted student.!
You are so welcome! Start now, you'll learn the most by doing it yourself.
Thanks so much for your videos!! First time I've tried things that actually work!!
You're welcome! So awesome to hear that Cindy.
Thank you. I'm a new fluid artist and I am teaching my kids as well. This was extremely helpful. ❤
You are so welcome Tiarrea.
I am loving your channel! Even though I’m only 2:20 mins in, I AM SO GRATEFUL for your approach to the - what seems like rocket science! I need step by step and WHY! Thank you for even saying that! Ok I’m gonna get into it (your video) now. Xoxo🤗
You are so welcome!
Uhhhg
The paper dropy tilty thing is such a good idea!
Lol. 🤜🏽🤛🏽
So many great tips....and I especially love that you have paint smudges on the shoulder of your shirt! That's totally me, so I've learned that I needed clothes dedicated to painting; more than just an apron! 😅
Definitely. I have a whole closet of those now.
I am a leftbrained Artist too! I like how you teach people. Thank you!
Thanks Wanda. Us lefties need to stick together. 8)
Wow, thus is the best video I have seen. The consistency and leveling tip blew me away. I have watched many pouring videos and none has explained the tricks of pouring. Now I am more confident to try acrylic pouring. Thank you very much.
Glad it was helpful! Let me know how it goes Beverly.
Really great tutorial, you're a wonderful teacher, thank you!
Thanks so much Niki.
Aw, those are two genres of topics I wasn't expecting to hear so eloquently combined. Thanks!
@@LeftBrainedArtist Its real. Get used to being a successful teacher of what you don't 'feel'. That's a compliment don't take it the wrong way cause Imma going to recommend you all that I can.
I like the last one the best, awesome!
Aw, thanks Becky!
Thanks I really enjoyed listening to the why, it makes more sense now!!
Glad you enjoyed it! I always want to know the "why" too.
Merci pour c'est instruction très clair et bien expliqué,tout les facettes de l'acrylique merci beaucoup ❤
avec plaisir
Wow, this is one of the most helpful videos to show and learn acrylic pouring. So helpful, thx a million. I will refer to thos video a lot for help.😊😊
Awesome, thank you Angela.
I was experimenting and managed to get some nice results with a light brown and a nutmeg brown and orange, yellow, and dark copper. Sort of a Halloween vibe. The dutch pours on a white background turned out surprisingly good.
Interesting! I'll have to check that out.
what is good about him is that he is not so wasteful, he avoids that by measuring every liquid he uses. Thats wonderful. Now am going to pour painting..i never appreciate others lecturing bec they do a lot of waste..Painters need to protect their environment too..
We definitely need to be aware of what we are doing and minimize waste for both monetary and environmental reasons.
So much great info! I have been wanting to try acrylic painting but I also needed to understand the basics so I wouldn't spend lots of $$ while learning. Can't wait to begin! ❤
Let me know how it goes and if you have any more questions Joy.
Wow vraiment beau ,j'ai hâte de commencé
Dis-moi comment se passent tes premiers tableaux Sylvie.
Thanku so much, very informative tutorial.
Im one of those people that have all the paints and equipment but am a lil anxious about doing pouring.
U have made this far less daunting 😊 thanku very very much, I actually feel alot better about the whole process
😅😊❤
With this I have learned to embrace my failures as they are the best teachers. You can do this Karen. Can't wait to see what you create.
@@LeftBrainedArtistThanku so much, im familiar with failure 😅
but if u never give it a go, you.ll never know right.
8) I have splatters everywhere for sure.
A valuable resource! Thank you for the great tutorial!
You're very welcome!
Always good to get back to the basics.
So true.
This is the best information I've received for thus far .
Glad you think so!
Great information. Especially to a newbie. Thank you.
You're very welcome!
Thank you so much for explaining the reason for scraping off the drips. You are wise. I thoroughly enjoyed your video and appreciate the details in mixing, pouring, layering, etc. Great job!
Have you started yet?
New to acrylic pouring and I have been struggling with ratio's of paints and pouring mediums. So glad I found your video you explain so easy to understand thank you.
You are so welcome! Let me know if you have more questions.
Woow❤ thank you so much for doing this video, i appreciate so much all the details that you have share.
10/10 ❤
Tomorrow, I will definitely do it!
You're welcome! I hope it turns out awesome.
You really focus on what is Relevant👌‼️ Thank you for sharing your Experience🤲❤️Toom@CapeTown
That's how I learn so I figured others would be the same.
I'm glad I found this video from you! I have a lot of school glue that I ordered from Amazon, and now I have a way to use the glue. I even have a bottle of extra strength Amazon glue, which is just like Elmer's Glue-All. I've got tons of clear glue, too. Thank you again for this!
You are so welcome! Let me know how it goes!
Vous êtes le meilleur vous expliquer très très bien merci beaucoup mon prof.
