Jack Of All Trades... - KTM 350 EXC-F

  • The KTM 350 EXC-F can be a bit of a do-it-all. And that rarely works out. Most of the times, a bike can do it all, in reality, can do nothing well. But what if this is different?
    A big shoutout to Enduronuts, the guys who let me use their bikes for this video! Make sure to give them a follow on Instagram @enduronuts and give them a call to book your next tour in Transylvania!

    On my 2nd 350excf.
    In my mid 50s.....probably the last bike I buy so I decided to get the bike I've always liked 5he most.
    Street legal indeed a bonus....singletrack built bike for me but connecting mountain trails via roads is a must.
    Went all in.....desmog,uncorked,tuned,exhaust,and stiffer springs for my riding skill and style.
    Expensive.....oh indeed.....literally the cost of my 1190 a few years ago.
    But.....literally so worth it.
    20 hours in and I am completely amazed at how a street legal bike "in Canada " can be so good.....so lite feeling in the nasty stuff we ride.
    Again I bought it and modded it to be a street legal singletrack beast.....and it most definitely is.

    Great production and great argument in favour of the pumpkin patch. Love my EXC-F 350 and just had it professionally rebuilt (2013 with 278 hours of hard riding). Worth the investment.
    One thing you forgot to mention that is the real kicker: STREET LEGAL! All that and it’s street legal baby… ❤

    • @KRANKiT
      @KRANKiT  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The street legality varies a lot from country to country, that’s mainly why I didn’t mention it. But yes, it can make for a great dual sport as well!

    Nice video Tudor! 2-strokes are great fun, and for hard enduro competition. Most hobby riders and occasional enduro riders do better on 4-strokes. And for those, the KTM 350 EXC-F is a powerful and great choice. 👍 This makes it the best bike for our use case, for a majority of riders: enduro tours in Transylvania 🥰

    I have a 350 EXC, and it's great for cruising singletrack, doubletrack, forest roads, etc, which is basically what I do. I'm not an MX or hard enduro rider, so for me, it's perfect.
    I did have to dump somewhere between $2-3K into aftermarket components to make it dirt worthy. Needed new tires, ECU, exhaust end cap, guards, tidy tail kit, etc. Whenever I end up needing a new street legal dirt bike, I'll look into Beta, as they're exempt from some of KTM's DOT requirements due to their lower sales volume, and their bikes don't need as many mods out of the box.

    • @hair2050
      @hair2050 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good points. Where in the world do you live? Just wondering about the registration requirements where you are.

    • @adri6959
      @adri6959 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Which beta?

    • @vaenii5056
      @vaenii5056 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@adri6959 Not sure, but I would imagine with the 250 and 300 2-stroke you are good after switching the pipe to unrestricted one and rejetting the carburetor. Takes fifteen minutes and costs nothing. That is how it used to work with KTM as well. Not sure about 4-stroke models.
      Of course if you live in the States then registering a two stroke for road use may be difficult depending on the state. Also the roads tend to be wider, straighter and the distances longer so two stroke may not be particularly great option for dual-sport use. However, for example here in Finland you can definitely get around with one.
      The main issue is, however, that the places where you can legally ride off-road tend to be 20+ kilometers away from the cities. In other words if you are serious about enduro you need to own a trailer, van, pickup truck or live in the countryside and own land or know someone who does and does not mind you riding around shredding their blueberries and lingonberries.

    I am currently using a ktm exc 350 2017. The motorcycle has a lot of power in every rpm range. It works perfectly for cruising routes and for climbs, problems start on a very technical track and in a difficult train because you can clearly feel its weight. I'm looking forward to more enduro bike videos. You're doing a good job👍

    • @KRANKiT
      @KRANKiT  ปีที่แล้ว

      I bet! The 350 could also be a more than decent supermoto, but for road use the power of the 500 could come in handy.

    • @hair2050
      @hair2050 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What is the horsepower of the 350 and 500? I am wanting to convert such a bike to adventure riding. Also I would happily sacrifice power to get better fuel economy. So can you guess at the respective fuel consumption of these two at a steady 100kph?

  • @geedubone

    Get the GasGas EC350F. Cheaper with a linkage. Convert the XPlor forks to open chamber and add an Acerbis bashplate with linkage protection and you have the best bike.

    The Japanese also have no answer for the KTM300. They have given up on the 2T enduro market completely, while KTM/Husq/GasGas and smaller companies like Sherco and Beta are coining it. How can Beta even show a profit if the Japanese claim they need so much R&D just to rejuvenate their 250 2T engines with a 300cc capacity and an electric start?

    I actually enjoy the 350f alot. I have a husqvarna fe350s four stroke and I think it's pretty well rounded for everything. I dont hit huge jumps often, just smaller ones usually and I hit alot of rocks, roots, tight trails, some road, it's a very awesome machine, especially after doing a tune, and doing the whole setup, deleting it and the whole 9 yards. It's awesome. It's light like a 250 and it's badass

      @@KRANKiT Honestly, I couldn't tell on a dirt road test ride, but took my chance. Got it home and was able to switch from one to the other on a familiar woods trail and I noticed a significant improvement in handling. I never felt confident on the KTM and thought it would kick me around on bumps, even with a softer spring I could never get it to sag quite enough for 145lb 5'7 rider. The FE feels more planted and absorbs the small bumps much more predictably.
