I'm a KTM dealer and honestly I laughed at the idea of Harley making an adventure bike. That being said they did a great job for sure for a first effort. The suspension lowering deal is really cool. I'm a dirt rider first so I love the 1290 Adv R but I for sure applaud Harley for the Pan American. Enjoy your new ride!! I would upgrade the tires when you have to change. We sell a lot of MotoZ tires for adventure bikes.

KTM is the best when it comes to OffRoad. Are those moto Z tires the ones to get?

@@exoapo They are really good tires. The Tractionator GPS is the 50/50 tire with Dual Venture as the 70/30. I have guys that run the GPS rear and Dual Venture front for more bite on the front in in dirt also.

I've owned both. Sold my BMW to buy the Pan Am and have not been disappointed. BMW has some annoying traits that you did not hit on which have plagued the bike for years. Overall though, I thought your review was well done. The Pan Am is not perfect but neither was the BMW. I'm at 7500 miles now with zero issues. Overall what has impressed me most about the Pan Am is its ability to chew up miles without effort. What impressed me the least about the Pan Am and something Harley really needs to address is the size and placement of the rear tail light. Small and hard to see with full bags on the bike. Borderline dangerous. I rigged aftermarket LED's on my tail box to help with that. Otherwise, good scoot.

Dirt first as well. Rode CRs most of my life then crfs, 49 now, but went back to 2-stroke, Husky TX 300. I also ride an electraglide classic. Pan america will be next.

BTW I would change out the stock tires on your Pan Am. I put on Dunlop Trailmax Mission and they have been great. For those that say the Pan Am is 'ugly' I disagree. It is just not the same look as a GS or a Tiger (more classic ADV lines) but the Pan Am looks good in my humble opinion.

I own a 2013 R1200 GS LC and a Triumph Bonneville T120. For the long haul and the rough roads, the GS is amazing. That being said, it was not the most reliable motorcycle that I have owned. While the GS is still going strong(after resolving all the gremlins), i was looking at the Pan Am. The online reviews are a big turnback as people clame serious electrical issues. I am now facing between keeping the old Boxer, bite the bullet and going for a Pan Am or go for a Tiger 1200( in my experience, Triumph is really reliable and enjoyable with a lot of cult following crowd). The new 1300's price is out of reach for me. And is also ugly as sin. Decisions, decisions. Enjoy your Pan Am!

Exactly one big reason I love it.
That and it is one the best all around bikes I ever owned.
    2022 PAS since new.

Only issue noisy fuel pump replaced under warranty at 21,000 miles.

    • @exoapo
      @exoapo  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

That’s funny and true. I think it’s because when it’s on a side kickstand it leans that way, and the pipes and sometimes air filter is on the right side and that looks better 😁👍

I had a 22 pan am , lots of power, good suspension but few quality issues that are typical harley. When putting the seat in high position it moves sideways so much not even funny, the quickshifter I put on was absolutely garbage, would only work half the time total waste of money. Harley didn't test that at all. Tremendous amount of buffeting from underneath the bars in busy traffic, so I ended up selling it. Also below 2000 rpm with a load on it it sounds like there is someone with a hammer in it. This is where the competition like bmw shines. Tons of low end grunt in the boxer motors

it is quite obviously an adventure bike, it's a great option for Harley owners looking for variety of course which is cool of course but theres nothing the bike has that isn't elsewhere except the harley logo which is great for those that want that of course. Engine looks great I will say but thats about it, if you like a bike for being ugly fair enough but if i spend thousands on a bike i want to look at it, also i get its not all owners experience but theres forum after forum of those complaining about electrical issues and WHY is the battery under the skid plate especially for something meant for off road

  • @DanaW-wf4kh

Nice ugly bike just like all adventure bikes. Once I sold my road king and decided to get an adventure bike it was the one thing that took the longest to accept that they are all just ugly.
I researched and looked around for months trying to decide what brand was right for me I looked at the tenere 1200 bmw 1250gs pan America special ktm1290 tiger1200 rally pro.
All great bikes and all have small issues if you want to pick them apart. And for me it quickly came down to ether the pan America or the tiger.
I bought the tiger and love it. most comfortable bike I’ve ever ridden and so much fun.

And when we pull up at a coffee shop, folks come over to check out and want to talk about my [ugly] PAm instead of my riding buddies who are on expensive CVOs. Makes my day, it does.

The Harley pan-america is probably one of the best handling harleys that I have ever ridden my dad owns 1 that's who let me ride it. I myself own 4 bikes 2 of them Are harleys but not the Pan America. However I'm at the point of my life where I am sick of the heavy bikes, I also am sick of the Harley tough guy image. I just can't stand that whole persona...... I do like the adventure bike category and I am looking for one to buy but I gotta be honest Harley bikes are too damn heavy (including the pan-america) and on top of that they are wildly expensive..... You can get a fantastic Adventure bike for 10 to 15K. If you spend more than that you're buying the name nothing else. So until Harley comes back down to reality in their prices I'm done with them. They also need a lighten their bikes.

I've been riding on the street since 1975, at age 16. My first street bike was a used 1972 Suzuki GT380 2 stroke triple. My first new street bike was a 1980 Suzuki GS450L cruiser. I've ridden cruisers ever sense. I have owned a few small dual purpose bikes, but mostly cruisers. NEVER owned or ridden a crotch rocket. Always been totally disgusted by them. Finally got my first Harley in 2003, a 1989 FXRS Low Rider. I still have it. The Pan America, KTM, and BMW are all GARBAGE. If you want one of those huge "adventure" bikes with a 48" seat, Honda and Yamaha both make them, and they are far superior to the H-D, KTM, and BMW junk. At 65 I couldn't even begin to get on one without an extension ladder.

One of the most adrenaline high motorcycles ever made.

I have and the bike is a hot pile of garbage. The fit and finish is atrocious. The reliability is laughable. The resale value is the worst of any adventure bike.
Bought a 22 pan new for 21k and a year later worth 12k.
Within the first 1k miles it was in the shop 4 times. Left me stranded 6 times total. Was junk. So much, so… the dealer bought it back and offered me a replacement.
3500 miles on the replacement and the engine blew. After 6 months in the shop, i got it back. Only for the suspension to throw codes and stop working. The screen was ghosting (even after the updates) abs wouldn’t work and it continued with the famous no starts, resulting in killing the battery after 2-3 attempts and of course, leaving me stranded yet again. I wouldn’t opt for a 3rd bike. I’m done with Harley at this point.
Bought a new BMW R1300GS and it’s a masterpiece. Better handling, better balanced, better wind protection, electronic windshield better power/torque delivery and the way it’s used down low is much better.
Came with heated seats front and rear, radar cruise control, quick shifter, adjustable foot pegs for even more room, adjustable bar risers, Better tech overall, better suspension, and the fit and finish is impeccable. It makes the pan look and feel like cheap Chinese plastic.
Several thousand miles in and 0 issues. Always starts, always ready to go. The BMW came complete. Something i could never say about the Pan.
