@floridarusticrepairs I'm actually in the process of the early steps of deciding on building a traditional wood garage or going with a Versatube building. Either your information is gonna be very useful in my process. Thanks
Good luck on your building! Mine was a struggle but had the contractor just been honest about it up front we would not have had any issues. Now that I've added electrical, AC, lighting, insulation and paneling, the building is just how I planned it and it's great to work in.
I have a 40x60' steel building, which I put up myself, I can relate to your experience. I had a contractor put in the slab, and later I hired two experienced steel workers to erect the building, I was the helper. It took the three of us a month full time, the hardest work I have done in my life! I also rented a rough terrain boom forklift for the heavy lifting. Mine is a different design rigid red steel beam frame, not tubular. This was 15 years ago. All the air/light leaks in your building is because they didn't use closure strips, molded foam strips that should be installed in all joints between frame and panels, to stop air leaks and bugs entering. But I guess the spray foam took care of it... Nice shop!
Thanks for the info! I had no idea they were supposed to install foam but it seems to make perfect sense. The air gaps in mine were crazy. It sounds like your building was more heavy duty than mine for sure. When Hurricane Milton came through in October it took a tree down right beside mine and, had it hit, would have absolutely crushed my building. Your beams may have been able to withstand it.
Wow, contractors can really be a pain. Your building looks fantastic. I'm sure your projects will be more enjoyable in an air-conditioned shop now. At least your camera won't be shutting off. Great video
Thanks! It's called Hawaiian blue. You only have a few color choices for the metal and I wanted it to match the house if possible. It turned out that this was a similar close.
One of the few times you hear somebody tell you about almost losing their s*** and probably had somebody tell them down someday you'll laugh about this. Now you're actually laughing about it. Good to see you didn't completely lose it. Thanks for laying it all out, in details, prices and time. Everybody has things they wish they'd done different but I think you nailed it and definitely won't regret anything you did. Thanks again
Thanks! Even before I started the process with this builder I had prepared myself for some difficulties and delays. I got more than I had imagined but by keeping the end goal in sight I was able to keep "mostly" calm in dealing with everyone.
I built a metal building. For a warehouse behind my store. And a lot of what you’re saying was true.i had more problems with zoning than anything. Had to have a buffer zone between my building and the homes. All that had to be approved. And then landscaping. Mine was about 3 times your size. No AC but did insulation. It took me about 6 months. Start to finish. Yes got to be patient. Thanks for sharing your experience. 💯👊👍
Thanks for the info! Fortunately, I had zoning cleared up by the time I got to contract. Did you go with closed cell foam insulation? I'm curious as to your opinions on that.
@@floridarusticrepairs I had a roof top vent to allow heat to rise and go out. The insulation was kinda old school. Had insulation towards the metal. And heavy plastic on inside. Worked well. For my warehouse. Spray insulation was not offered. I do like the way yours was done.
@@terryeustice5399 The extra window I wanted was actually so I could put a solar fan up there to vent. it didn't work out but the foam really does an excellent job.
I had a totally different experience. I used Eagle, and although my unit is half this size. I did my own permits ground work and concrete using tails, 3800.Building was 6900, no insulation or panel all in just under 11k and put in ground exactly 9 weeks from order.
Thanks for the info. That's interesting. Even at it's best I can't see that happening with mine. Maybe if I had the permits before I signed the contract (3 weeks saved) and had the concrete lined up before the contract with the builder (4 weeks saved) it may have been possible. My town made it difficult for me to permit this myself and after my first failed attempt coordinating that with a builder I handed it off.
Thanks for doing the video. I am actually in the beginning process of a 24x40 building. I am using it for a garage to work on cars so I will not be going with paneling, lol. My big cost is going to be the leveling the land, it is on a hill, and concrete pad. The only good thing for me is that I don't have a tight deadline. Your building looks really nice!!
I CAD drafted house plans as a business each sheet of the drawing takes two to three days for up to 2200 sqft changes take take an equal amount of time as the set of plans but it looks great communicates is job one for a great project. Looking forward to some great videos.
Thanks! It's funny that you mention communication. After the third time I was told that it would be six more weeks by the contractor I told him that he is very weak at managing expectations. Had he simply said that it'll take 5 months I would have been fine with it. With every delay I only discovered things were stalled after I called for a status having not heard anything for a while.
Looks great i have one about that size came with my house . mine is wooden abd 2 floors i am in the updating of it right now prices are crazy for remodeling it lol
Thanks! I had looked into building a wood structure but it would have cost me about 25% more and I was already stretched. Having a second floor would be great.
Good point! I tried for a clause with monetization but the best they'd give me was a timeline which they failed miserably with. It's on me if I want to pursue it further but I think I won't bother.
I’m sorry this project took so long for you. I acted as my own GC and my metal building with concrete was done in under 2 months. The permitting was easily the most annoying part but thankfully I had great crews that did the installs.
The cost of assembly is included. The only thing I caught when quoting builders is that some would say that you needed to provide a crane on site. Anytime i argued that point they immediately backed off and included it. Since my building height is only 15' at peak, a crane wasn't necessary anyway which makes me wonder why they tried to add that cost.
Great building but you have to have the supervisors, I know you will figure it out. Building process, sucks. Period. The end result is very nice. You and the supervisors will enjoy it.
It's funny, I was changing the water pump in my truck last night and when I went outside there were three sitting there waiting for me to come out. If I leave the garage door open they'll venture in but as of now they're wary of it.
One of the best truthful videos on real time frame of it being finished. Thanks
Thanks! Sounds like you've been through it yourself. I hope your building turned out OK for you.

I'm not laughing at you buddy, I'm laughing with you in frustration. Glad you finally got your building. Your experience will benefit me. Thank you.

Thanks! I changed the water pump in my truck in air conditioned comfort. :) Quite a difference from being outside in the FL heat.
I like that exterior colour and the interior paneling looks great. 👍

Thanks! i was fortunate to have my lot already level. Concrete has gotten very expensive over the last ten years.
Very helpful, thank you! Finished building looks great
Thanks! I went a little crazy with the paneling inside, but it was worth it.
The building looks great and there is a lot of space to do about anything.
Thanks! It'll be nice to be able to work some more complex projects where i don't need to pack everything up at the end of the day.
I was wondering where you were putting all those tools and boxes! Now I know. There they are!
There's a lot of them! My main box which I've had for 40 years is still in my garage. Soon to be coming over.
Great to see - totally different to the UK but a lot of good lessons from your build. Would love to see more about it - health to enjoy it
Thanks and a big "Hello" from the colonies. I'll upload some video of the inside work soon.
@@floridarusticrepairs Looking forward to it!
I think it looks great

Have a Jesus filled day everyone

Thanks!
Thanks for the video and the honesty!
Thanks for the reply. I hope you found it useful info.

Nice to hear from you brother 👍
Thanks!
This is very interesting. I'm thinking of putting a similar (smaller) structure on my property. Nice to know what to expect.
As long as you estimate a lot of extra time you'll keep your stress level down.
sorry you dealt with such delays and a contractor who was not truthful, your building looks great inside and out
Thank you! It was worth it in the long run.

You needed a work shop. I know it was costly but how much you paid for storage over the years.
Thanks! yes, I'm grateful to have it. Changed the water pump in my truck last night in well lit air conditioned comfort.
Always include liquidated damages in the contract. Every day past schedule is $100-$200 penalty.
Good point! I tried for a clause with monetization but the best they'd give me was a timeline which they failed miserably with. It's on me if I want to pursue it further but I think I won't bother.

That's great! My building supplier would not even begin their six week lead time countdown until a week after the concrete was in.
WAO ! not cheap 😮 I better start playing the mega MILLION ! 😊😮
Yes, it took me several years of saving to be able to afford it.
Nice building, is the cost of the building include the assembly on site?
Thanks for sharing your info

The foam was probably still out gassing when the initial painting was done.
I'm a retired industrial coatings contractor.
Thanks for the info! That makes a lot of sense. It was summer in Florida and very humid so maybe it took longer to fully set.
WHAT THE!?!?!?! No more taking stuff apart in the gazebo? DUDEZILLA!!!!!!!
lol! Maybe sometimes when the weather is nice. :)

@@floridarusticrepairs you will work out. They improvise, adapt and overcome.
My god why do you have so many tool boxes?
😂 Nobody knows.
My building will be $270,000
Wow! Much bigger than mine, I'm sure. 😀
