Dude. You are nuts 😉 absolutely enjoyed your video - what a way to take the tire for a test spin. I wouldn’t even dare to go near snow like that. Well done and cheers from Germany. 👍
Thanks Kyle for the nice video. I am waiting for the next video with wet/rainy tarmac performance and your final verdict in comparison with other similar tires like TKC 70? Michelin Adv. and any other you like.(Also we are waiting for the new one TKC 70 Rocks with better off-road performance). For me, the mission tire it is a "hybrid" tire with +30 or + 40 performance at some specific situations - types at off road terrain and +10 at asphalt road. But certainly is not a 50/50 tire.
Nice! Thanks for watching. For sure beats out all of the 80/20 tires and gives 50/50 and 60/40 tires a run for their money. I am super impressed with this tire... for sure.
The AX41 tires are my current favorites. Still have them on 2 bikes... They wear out quickly but they work really really well. Thanks for watching! - Kyle
Ha! Ha! Ha! The RallZ are amazing tires. These Mission tires run smoother on the highway and handle high speeds better than the RallZ. The RallZ is a tad more aggressive dirt capable more like 70% dirt as opposed to the 50% of the Mission tire. Thanks for watching! I think you will really like next Monday's episode ;) Stay tuned! - Kyle
Great video. I bit the bullet and orders a pair for my 1200GS. I'm now running Shinko 705's There good but slightly buzzy on the street and not to grippy towards the outside of the tire. Can't wait to try the new Dunlop's.
@@manybikes Thanks, that's great that's good hear. I'll have them mounted this week. I have watched so many videos about tiers that it's coming out of my ears 😂. Best
The Trailmax Mission’s did well considering the conditions. I have pack-up full on off-road tires in snow and slush. Temps and snow consistency are a huge determinant of tire performance, as are tire pressures, chain tension, loading dynamics and suspension settings
Hey Kyle! I have been watching a lot of your videos in preparation for my next tire choice. I am currently riding a Rallz front and Tractionator Adventure rear but found I didnt ride as much dirt as I expected. For my next choice, I am looking at either the Trailmax or the Tractionator GPS. How does the Tractionator GPS stack up against the Trailmax Missions?
Great question! Actually the Dunlop TrailMax Mission tire and the Motoz Tractionator GPS Tire are very very very similar in performance. I would say that the Mission tire "turns in" quicker and more smooth than the GPS tire which has a flatter profile than the Mission tire. Both tires were great on the street and in the dirt. I prefer the front Mission tire over the GPS tire as it is "just a little" more off-road grippy. They both work well, but the Mission just felt a little more planted. Either set will suit you well... I KNOW I have gotten 12k miles out of the GPS tire on my R1200GSA - but the mileage on the Mission is still in question. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching - Kyle
Great information. This Dunlop tire looks good, but for the wet street issues. Maybe Dunlop can tweak the compound a little. I prefer a good wet street tire over a better off roader.
Kyle, I really appreciate that you are pushing the tyre to the limit for us, however I believe Mezeler karoo steet or/and pirelli Scorpion STR, which are both 20:80, would perform similar, if not better, then D TrailMax Mission in the given conditions. The ratio is declarative by a manufacturer, in my opinion and it rather position the tyre within the range of the manufacturer, then describes what the tyre is capable of! Therefore trying to force the tyre to prove that it’s not a 50:50 tyre is questionable!? Also comparison to Michelin wild on gs (170?)/r17 vs D on KTM is bit unfair ;-) Good work and keep-on posting reviews for the community! Cheers
Thank you for your feedback and comments. This tire is performing MUCH better than either the Karoo Street or the Scorpion STR in the snow. I have tired them both and the outcome... was stopped dead in my tracks. The packed up and I could not go anywhere! They just are not good for snow. Now...wet tarmac, the Karro Street might excel as they use Silica and I don't recall re: the STR. Thanks for watching and I do appreciate your comments. Have you ridden either in MUD or Snow? What was your experience?
Crazy traction out of such a tame looking tire. Let down by the wet traction but we all saw that coming from their mileage claims. Can’t want for the next part of the review and I’m still seriously considering this for the next big trip that includes gravel and off road.
I am totally shocked by the tire too. It does well in wet weather if you back it off a bit... I was pushing it. In next weeks video you will see that it does well in the wet, in the mud, in slush and up to several inches of snow too... Mileage looks like it will be good, I've got 600 miles on them to date.
Dunlop have clearly spent a long time perfecting the tyres capability (As stated in your other videos) It makes me wonder how many 50/50 tyres designs have been turned down by other manufacturers because they simply didn't look like the 50/50 style we are used to. Have you felt if the wrap around lugs have added to the traction in any way yet?
Specifically speaking to the side lugs... the tire worked WAY better in the Snow than I expected... Maybe that was due to side lug help? Just maybe... - Kyle
Not sure how aggressive the trailmax tires are that came with my 2018 nc750x are for dirt riding. They did really well on the one trail I have taken them on so far though, so they are more aggressive than the bike itself. I don't see them on dunlops website anymore though. Looks like the trailmax has been shaped to be more of a 50/50 tire. I wouldn't mind getting another set of the ones that came on the bike though since the bike needs a few modifications to keep up with the mission tires that you are using.
Thanks for your feedback Vance. I ran the original TrailMax on an Africa Twin and they worked well for the most part... but they were not too aggressive and they did not clean-out well. I think they are more of a 90% street and 10% dirt. -- Kyle
Hey Kyle, Just discovered your channel. My Tenere 700 came with the Pirelli Scorpion STR's and they are great on pavement and gravel roads. On wet grass or slimy mud they are useless. I just rode down a very deep mud road and it was a lot of work pushing the bike as the rear tire just would not clear out. Looking forward to trying either the Dunlop Trailmax or the Pirelli Scorpion tires next. Thanks for the great review. What is your opinion of the Pirelli Scorpion tire? Thanks again.
Right on! Welcome! If you haven't already, please subscribe so you see when new videos are released. Here is a video I made on the Scorpion Rally tire. Off-road it is one of the best tires out there... but is now discontinued here in the USA. I ran it side by side with the STR... Whoa, cool stuff Kyle, thanks! If Dunlop used bit softer compound or more silica, we'd probably have perfect tire. But lack of wet grip is a big no, no for me. I wonder how would AVON Trekrider or Shinko 705 behave in similar conditions, they look similar to Dunlop's.
The TrekRider will be tested here in a couple weeks. I agree with the Silica - would really have liked to see a waterphobic material in with the rubber.
