Common Comments and Questions - Best Tamiya TT01 Upgrades?

- A lot of you have been asking about the best upgrades for a Tamiya TT01. So here's a quick video showing you, in my opinion, the best upgrade you can apply to your TT01.
These upgrades are for no particular area of RC (drifting, rallying or racing), it's just general good upgrades that will give you better performance out of your RC.
Let me know what upgrades you think are important in the comments below. Again, this is my own opinion but your input is also very valuable in this discussion.

Great video. im new to electric and was given a tired old tt01 chassis which im restoring and building up. Just ordered metal bearings.
Awesome. To be gifted an RC is great because you can spend the money you would have paid for it on upgrades. Good luck. What are your plans for it? Road? Drift? Rally?

Great list. Loved it. What about adding the upper deck (not in stock kit)? What about aluminum motor mount will it noticeably reduce heat?

Thats negative camber in rear, more stability less prone to spinouts.
My personal upgrades order would be aluminum and bearing steering set to minimize the steering slop, then alum drive shaft, but i had bought the drift spec which comes with cva shocks and full ball bearings which i beleive are essentials for me to buy a kit in the first place. So its bearings, aluminum steering set, oil shocks, alum drive shaft, then front one way... diffs can be adjusted by diff oil, which leaves room to drive the car almost normaly by just changine tires... otherwise lock the rear diff for stricly drift driving...
What wasnt mentioned in the video is the one way in front gives you the ability to use brakes as an e-brake rear brake only to help break the rear loose and start the drift, without it the brakes will be on all 4 wheels.
When I made this video, I wasn't aware of the One-Way diff. If budget was a concern then I wouldn't include it, as it's not essential, but if pure performance is required, then it would definitely be included. If you were to use a TT01 strictly for drifting , then the drift spec chassis would be your best option for sure.
Nice video. The motor in TT01 wiggles a bit even when all screws are tightened. How do you fix that?
I got 3racing diffs in the past amd the blue ring gear blew in peices in the diff case i hope they are made better now

I have upgraded the Drive Shaft to Aluminium, but it seems to slip. I have refitted it twice. Any ideas on what the problem is? Thanks
I agree with all, just go for the tamiya plastic hop hups instead of alu, spare (if u found them cheap) money and the car will weight less!

I was wondering if I should buy a tt01 for some drifting. Is it a good platform.
tt02 has no parts that would fit the tt01 , they look similar but are quite different , only the diffs are the same .. :) i have both tt01 and tt02
+radio control uk Thanks for letting us know. I suppose the bearings, shocks and diffs are the same for both so it's only the centre driveshaft and arm upgrades that differ.

Yes and no. You don't really need aluminium lower arms, just the adjustable upper arms of your looking to change the camber. The steering set can stay plastic as well, as long as you replace the bushings with bearings. The 3 most important upgrades, in my opinion, are bearings, shocks then centre driveshaft, in that order.

brushless combo
bearings
you will save a lot
It does say in the description of the video that this is my opinion. I don't like bodging things in RC. I'd rather have a proper part and have it last. I'm not knocking the hot glue method but I would be concerned about how long it would last under brushless power, and the weight distribution inside the diff. If you don't get the weight distribution right, the diff will vibrate and wear out the bearings. The 3 Racing diffs are properly balanced. Again, just my opinion. I appreciate your input.
Please Help! I purchased the 3RACING TT01-05/LB Aluminum Ball Diff. Set for my Tamiya TT01E, but when I upgraded to the full alum Yeah Racing the Alum Ball Diff does not fit. I was told that I need a CVD(axel) or a swift shaft ver. 2. I'm new to the Rc world.
Please advice on how I can fix this.

I have a question i have a tt01 brushless 9t....on 3s...I had this guy at a hobby shop tell me that diff grease would be ok to use insde the diff housing where the diff pinion is and man was he wrong.....I have spun 3 sets to nothing in like 2 weeks...Before when i was doing 30 mph I had nothing in the diff housing but now im doing 60 mph...I have bearings and the whole yeah racing kit.....I just order'd the solid diff axle but just for th rear for now...all i really need to know is should i have grease in there or what should I do...thanks
You may just need thicker grease. I have some heavy duty bearing grease that resists flinging out at high RPMs. Alternatively, you could try sealing the diff housing and putting diff oil in there. Either way, you never want to run any type of gears dry.

To my knowledge, all the 3Racing chassis replaces is the bathtub part. It still uses the stock diff housings, suspension components and drive-line parts. It does have an integrated aluminium motor mount which is nice. The chassis will probably allow for a bit more steering angle, which is nice for drifting, with increased lightness and stiffness, being made of graphite. Are you considering one?

+Riki Hisada To be honest, I don't know much about the best differentials to run. I know what certain diffs do but how that impacts the cars performance is still something I have to learn. My TL01 has open diffs in the front and rear. It handles great but gets stuck in rough terrain a lot. So I'm going to lock the rear to prevent it from getting stuck. I run a locked diff in the rear of my drift car and a one-way in the front. It is a popular setup I see many other people running and the TT01 drifts well. Whether or not you can get limited slip diffs for RCs, I would just run your standard open diff in the front and rear. Seems to allow for tighter turning radias and the most grip. I would expect more from the stock kit, but they aren't the most expensive kits by any means. Have you got any brushless RCs?
+X-FLIGHT101 It's the standard from Tamiya really. I don't mind spending extra on these parts because it's personal to everyone and it makes each RC different. The only thing that annoys me about these kits are the plastic bushings they supply them with. I just wish they would supply ball bearings in the kits. I really wouldn't mind the price difference. I don't have any brushless RCs. I am hoping to upgrade this one soon but there's no rush and I'm not too bothered about my projects being really fast. Thanks for watching.

the only diffrenct from the tt-01 to the tt02 is the chassie where the battery is on the tt01 thats where the esc a reciver is now
I've heard that there's quite a few differences other than the one you mentioned. I don't have a TT02 so can't say for sure, but people have told me they share very few similarities.
RCProjects how about this almost none of the tt02 parts fit on the tt01

It doesn't matter what car it is, it's the ESC that matters. If it says 'TBLE-02S' on it then yes, you can run a brushless motor. Just remember to get a sensor cable as well.

Hi I have got a question I have bought a used tamiya tt01 type e and he tried converting it to RWD and it worked a luttele bit do u guys know how I Can make it 4WD again?
It depends how far he went. He may have just taken out the centre driveshaft and drive cups. But he may have also removed the front diff and front driveshafts. Best thing to do is to pull it apart and double check.

I got it from Ebay but they don't come up very often. Just search for '3Racing TT01 Chassis Brace' and you might be able to find one.
Will the tt-01 steering fit my df-02 looks same size cant find no parts anymore i am getting 3.5t motor for it and 150a esc and 2 cell lipo gonna be quick

Not sure whether a TT01 steering set will fit the DF-02 but the link I posted is for an aluminium set for the DF-02. With the electronics your planning, you'll need strong and reliable steering. Hope this helps.

It's from Germany but because they and we are still in the EU (but not for long) there's no import charges. Just a standard delivery charge which is very reasonable. You may be able to find a set in the UK. I just did a quick search on Ebay and this was one of the first results.
I didn't know you could get 1/8 scale drift wheels. You may need new hex adaptors because most 1/8 RC have 14mm hexs. Do you have a link for these wheels so I can check them out?

RCProjects true and tamiya has invested maybe a lot of time into the tt02 there is a buggy version a short course truck version the tt02b tt02t tt02d tt02 tt02 type e I guess the best versions of the tt02 is the tt02t and tt02b
