To touch on the Daemon prince Pert topic, there’s a popular theory running he rounds that the wounds dealt to him in Angel Exterminatus (all the soul-fuckery Daemon Fulgrim did) are slowly killing him and his only option was to get all chaos-y. There’s a place in the warp called the Soul Forges (this is really old lore so take with salt) that is a realm apart from the four gods. I could see the forges making him a daemon primarch. I can’t believe the greatest friendship in the imperium’s history wasn’t mentioned! Hoping Alexis Pollux is mentioned in the Imperial Fists episode. Is it confirmed the Silver Skulls are Iron Warriors successors? It's definitely a possibility, but I was under the impression that it's somewhat ambiguous at the moment.
@@tehvaniu6a It still "ambiguous" but it pretty much confirmed, Silver skulls got change from a third founding chapter to a second founding chapter. Question is less are they related to the iron warriors, but more are they still using iron warrior Gene-seed? Has the left over iron warriors that formed the chapter could have switched to ultramarine gene seed to SPITE pert for one last time.
@@Fourtytwo4242 I mean te IW gene seed is very stable, so they could still be using it, considering there's no files on their origin. Idk, I just feel like there's a bit too much loyalist chapters that are rumored to be IW successors for me to be comfortable with it. I've heard that The Marines Malevolent, Scythes of the Emperor and Minotaurs are also ones. Though out of all of them I'm pretty sure that the Silver Skulls are the most likely ones. Also thank you for your reply.
This is just my personal theory, but maybe when or if they release the Perturabo model, he won't be a Daemon Primarch. They made him a Daemon Primarch early on before they fleshed out his lore, but now that his lore is Ironed out (and Ironed in), they can write it so that this whole time, he has been fighting his daemon corruption, and when he is revealed, he finished fighting off the daemon and is now immune to daemon corruption (similar to when a Daemonhost fights off the corruption). This also gives Black Library an excuse as to why he hasn't done shit for the last millennium, and also he would now be in line with his character.
Sanguinius was a genuinely caring individual that actually cared about his sons and brothers so his brothers liked him in turn. Magnus was a chill guy who liked books and smart strategies so he gets along with most of his brothers like Perturabo or Vulkan who also had weird hobbies that weren't all about war and blowing up planets.
This will be the last episode I view before shipping out to mcrd and becoming a marine, and I gotta say I greatly appreciate everything this podcast has done, not only for my enjoyment of the hobby, but for the betterment of the entire community
Honsou the Half-Imperial Fist is the creator of the Daemonculaba and Barabas Dantioch who is purely Perturabo's is the Hero of the Imperium. The Duality of Iron Warriors.
That half-fist is old lore. New lore retconned him in the Horus Heresy series. Honsu is most likely a gene descendant of an Iron Warrior named "Honorable Sulaco". Dude got knifed by Fabulous Bill during the Angel Exterminatus event and had his geneseed sucked out for experimentation. A fire breaks out in Fab Bill's lab and Lucius snags some seed. He reads the lable which is burned as: Hon....Su.... New lore retcon.
One fun things to talk about would be Perturabo's Honour Guard. Most Primarchs had a elite unit of bodyguards, even if they felt there was no need. Perturabo felt that it was useless and that his sons were unworthy of such a honour. However, during an ambush gone badly, Imperial Fists invaded his flagship, caught him unawares and almost killed him in his personal quarters. Afterwards, Perturabo still didn't want to use his own Legionnaires for that and got some Mechanicum automatons (robots) for the job. They were called the Iron Circle. Also, the guy who led the Imperial Fists in this battle, Alexis Polux, would later become the founder of the Crimson Fists Chapter.
I love/hate how Alexis Polux was in a position to kill Perturabo in the void battle, and the only reason he doesn’t finish the job is because Dorn sends a message telling him to return to Terra.
So something about that Pharos thing mentioned because it's pretty cool The thing was NOT imperial- it was actually Xenos, later found out to be Necron. It was basically a tiny Astronomicon. A certain Machine lover by the name of Cawl went to fuck with its remains and found it was powered by a shard of a C'tan called Zarhulash the Potentate Cawl promised to free it if it tore down the pharos. It did, but Cawl Scammed it and sent it right in the middle of Hostile Tomb words- The C'tan has sworn revenge. Meanwhile Cawl got a bunch of blackstone AND the locations to OTHER Pharos structures
@@orien358 yeah they expanded on the Pharos' lore in the book Belisarius Cawl: The Great Work that's largely set inside the Pharos and revolves around them discovering what it really is.
"Magnus pulled out his one-eyed god, red hot and engorged with chaotic corruption, like an iron poker that had been stoking the coals of a dying sun..."
Mind you, Perturabo didn't just burn Angron with words...he beat Angron to within an inch of his life. He didn't just body Angron...he basically killed him physically and emotionally. And to add in the Unbreakable Litany of Iron: "From iron cometh strength! From strength cometh will! From will cometh faith! From faith cometh honour! From honour cometh iron!"
The story would be called "How we bombed the shit out of you." and the pages would be nothing but explosion noises written out in various formats, type-settings, and fonts.
9:04 he’s the most analytical, proficient, and efficient primarch and yet is one of the most human of them. He has clear flaws that he battles against.
Space Marines inherit some of the traits of their primarch. Hansou’s geneseed was taken from an Imperial Fist casualty so he had traits inherited from Dorn. Such as a level of personal honor and trustworthiness. This made his brothers hate him for two reasons. He is considered a halfbreed weirdo because of this origin and ironically he had the favor of their warsmith and was considered his pet because he was honorable and trustworthy.
Shame he was up top his knees in chaos and he had his head too far up his ass in the end.. one of the few Primarchs i can agree Big E kinda fucked up by not talking honestly and directly with him about caos despite knowing he knew and what he was doing.. stilll no good reason to question or disobey big E but coulda gone better
Perturabo, Jagathai, Horus, Sanguinus, Fulgrim(?), and Ferrus, Horus, Lorgar - they all kind of liked Magnus, tho admittedly, Ferrus and Fulgrim were more like just ACCEPTING him, rather than liking him. Fuck even KONRAD accepted Magnus,- even if he disliked him.
True he was bro tier... but I'll always keep to the Headcanon that he died the day he shattered the Imperial Webway to warn the Emperor, and the thing that is the current Crimson King is basically Tzeentch puppeteering the soul shards of Magnus he was able to snatch alongside the ones the TS found. I mean his soul was so broken apart that Malcador decided that jamming a piece in a TS was a worthwhile experiment.
Sanguinous wasn't perfect by any means. He could be a little quick to anger at times, like during the signus campaign a whole bunch of planets were going wierd as stars that shouldn't move kept moving and planets started to disappear and re-apear that Sanguinous got so angry and frustrated that he ordered his entire fleet to fire cyclonic torpedoes at signus prime to overkill extra extermimatus the planet and even his lord admiral thought it was severe overkill, also the cyclonic torpedoes passed through the planet harmlessly. He also couldn't accept the fact that horus betrayed him and almost killed one of his captains for even suggesting it. He also had fears, he was very afraid that the emperor would sic leman russ and the dark angels on him to disappear the blood angels like he did the 2nd and 11th legions because of the flaw that would overwhelm astartes turning them into mindless Blood drinking monsters similar to how magnus loved the emperor and the imperium and was eventually attacked by the space wolves and sisters of silence because of him and his legion using psychic powers. Sanguinous went to such lengths to keep the flaw a secret that only himself and 3 captains knew about the flaw and he would kill any space marine that fell to the curse. The only other person he told was horus and that was only after he saw Sanguinous kill one fo his own astartes, and even then he tried to lie about it to horus because he was afraid of him blabbing about it to big E.
Oh and Sanguinous was also tempted to take a deal from Kyris the perverse, a keeper of secrets that offered him a cure for his legions flaw if he pledged himself to slaanesh and leaped through a choas portal. He was about to do it until a blood angels apothecary leaped In first becoming a corrupted space marine revealing that there was no cure. Without that apothecary Sanguinous mightve joined choas.

the kriegsman did shell a city for 5 years after it surrendered, and like 2 years after there were no life signs left in the city. They REALLY wanted to make an example of them. And it is possible that the sudden burst of warp energy drew the attention of the tyranids, but the astronomicon led them in once their attention was focused in this direction.
It has probably already been said, but Honsou got his necron arm from Passanius, a 4th company Ultramarine who had made an ancient necron named the night bringer flee, leaving the metal for the arm behind. It's all covered in the Uriel Venrtris chronicles, starts with book 1 and this honsou bit happens in book 3 I believe

I had never heard of Dantioch before today. I didn’t know about the Pharos until today. And I didn’t know that he would inadvertently cause the Tyranids to come to our galaxy 10 thousand years afterwards. I haven’t had this feeling of being blown away by 40K since I was first introduced to the Adeptus Mechanicus when I was first starting to learn about the lore.
Storm of iron was both my first black library book and still one of my favorites, iron warriors are my favorite traitor legion and I enjoyed how in the book it went over how they dug trenches in specific ways and the screaming dreadnought being used as a battering ram
You said that "the iron legion and night lords probably have the least chaos corruption" but you forgot the Alpha Legion. Some of their warbands are chaos corrupted but there's definitely a bunch of Alpha Legionaires that aren't at all and don't even reside in the eye of terror with the rest of the chaos warbands and are basically just space marine pirates.

Those cable cords in his head - computer wires. He literally made connection with internet and most powerful computer he could fit to his cranium, so he would calculate battles and simulations in his head, butmostly to calculate numbers of troops, reinforcements and loss
There was also that one time where Nurgle approached Perturabo during the Heresy to make Perty his Daemon Primarch, and Perty basically told Nurgle, a goddamn primal god of Chaos, to shove off.
It’s kind of funny how they’ve gone through two episodes and never mentioned it before Purdy showed up, The legion was known as the corpse grinders. And quite frankly I think they should’ve stayed their name except Pertty thought iron warriors was cooler
Imma come up to bat for Sanguinius, and I might be biased because I stan a lot of Blood Angel successor chapters, but he definitely had flaws, Sanguinius is one of the few loyalist Primarchs I can think of who was genuinely tempted towards Chaos at one point. I get where you're coming from, this is the same guy who blames himself for his son's corrupted gene seed with the red thirst, and they play it up well with him personally putting down his sons who fall to it, but I could see how it feels like a more shallow version of the extremes Magnus took to save his legion. But I feel like that's a drawback of it's own that he doesn't have that level of resourcefulness and now his predecessors suffer to it and the black rage to such an extent some of their legions are constantly dwindling even outside of combat, none of the other dead loyalists had left their sons in such a state of a two-side burning candle.
a candle burning on two sides is only tragic if its actually decreasing in size the blood angels getting decimated 6 times in 500 years but still being full numbers to face their 7th decimation makes it all hollow
@@ashardalondragnipurake I believe that's more of an issue with the nature of how GW writes their setting, where they want to have high stakes but keep things relatively stagnant so they can keep popular stuff relevant, a big example of this is *insert blood angel successor chapter here* being brought back from the brink of destruction with the primaris marines. I don't disagree with that sentiment.
@@Phe0niz the problem is that they do it too much with the blood angels every book wants them to be the one that have suffered the most the very specialest little victims that won in the end after a while you stop being dramatic and just become the posterboy for plot armor its why i like stories about chaos and nids, atleast they can lose
I already thought to myself "how can you manage to speak like 2 hours about Perturabo and the Iron Warriors without mentioning the Kilbasa?" I hope it won't get too bad because Bricky narrates stuff differently than for example Luetin, who went about the subject in quite some detail. DK will be pleased tho^^
The thing that dantiach overloaded was basically a mini astronomicon for guilimans imperium in the dark which he used to rally his forces and hopefully keep the imperium alive after the warpstorms cut off terra and the remaining primarchs thought terra lost when dantiach overloaded this mini astronimicon it sent out a shockwave throughout the galaxy and beyond alerting the tyranids.
@@meccevil321 Said the biggest loser of all the legions. All the Imperial Fists were killed in the War of the Beast. All you have now is the successors pretending to be you and primaris marines. Even the second and eleven legions got off better than you.
HEY IRON LOSERS YOUR PRIMARCH IS SO FAT HE MAKES NURGLE LOOK LIKE A SUPERMODEL! ----(Repeated burn transmission from Tech-marine from Carcharodons fleet ship.)----
Fun note on the older IW on tabletop: They could take Basilisks! Imagine playing against an IW player and he rolls up with three and a ton of vindicators, back when armor was dependent on the side of the tank you were hitting. Genuinely terrifying.
11:28 I loved a fanfic I read where it made Demon perturabo an actual look. The story was about the imperium was attack an iron warrior fortress. A massive castle of weapons. The fortress moved around and seemed to roar. After a while, the imperium realized something horrifying, perturabo wasn’t inside the fortress. He was the fortress itself. He and his mighty fortress had become one.
For anyone curious about the mentioned Beacon on Sotha and the Tyranid Invasion it's the main focus of the Belisarius Cawl book The Great Work, it's a very interesting read for lore-nerds and well worth the time ^^
Worth noting that the reason they cut mutations off isn't necessarily to spite Chaos, it's due to two reasons; They believe in relying on their own strength and so see Chaos gifts as hand outs basically, and the second reason is that it's just an excuse. They love replacing their flesh with mechanical parts, much like the Iron Hands. In the novel Dead Sky Black Sun, Honsou gets pretty badly wounded, in a way that'd kill a normal human, and he just laughs about it because it means he can get more implants. Also fun fact DK will love; Honsou stole that Necrodermis arm from an Ultramarine.
There are so so so many incredibly mind-blowing things the Iron Warriors have done. I'm not even a huge fan of them but man this episode was a missed opportunity.
To echo what others have said, the idea was that Perturabo arranged his apotheosis into Daemonhood to save his life after the injuries suffered in Angel Exterminatus and alluded to by Nurgle's recruiters in Slaves To Darkness (the HH novel, not the other book. Or the *other* other book.). He arranged to become a Daemon of Chaos Undivided to mitigate what he saw as his brothers' enslavement to a single power. The idea is that if he can keep the four powers vying for his loyalty he can get all the power with fewer of the drawbacks. And of course none of the four would want to give up a chance of so powerful a champion to one of the other three. If they had to make Perturabo a Daemon Primarch (and of course they did because GW has no imagination) then that was the way to do it.
I want them to cover the Inquisition, it would touch upon the 3 main ordos (Xenos, Hereticus, Malleus) along with the Ordo Sicarius and all the other fun stuff the Inquisitors get into, and if it goes back to the All Guardsmen Party then that would be icing on the cake.
40:49 Pretty much how I understand it is, overloading the Pharos Beacon is what drew the Tyranids in toward the galaxy, but the Astronomicon is what keeps drawing them towards Terra.
For those curious and wanting to read ahead about Warsmith Honsou here's your required reading: Storm of Iron, then the entire Ultramarines series. It'll explain his Origins, where the necrodermis arm comes from, how he got it, the daemonculaba, and what eventually happened to him. And yes the Ultramarines series is actually pretty good 👍 Uriel Ventris is a cool dude. Plus the story of the Space Marine game was definitely heavily influenced by it (to the point where they basically copied certain plot points). Like legit. Ultramarines captain is a cool dude, interprets the codex instead of dogmatically following it word for word, has cool sergeant sidekick, gets betrayed by a pissant underling who is a "THE CODEX ASTARTES DOES NOT SUPPORT THIS ACTION REEEEEEEE" type and after winning a major victory for the imperium is then stripped of his rank and sent to die for "HE'S TOTALLY A HERETIC" reasons.
Perty's insults were probably why he managed to beat Angrond. Daemon Princes are purely ethereal beings; souls given form. When Rylanor detonated that bomb in Fulgrim's face, it was the insults he threw at Fulgrim that wounded the daemon primarch far more than the actual explosion. Perturabo likely figured this out on his own and used it to his advantage.
When I first got into WH40K lore, the first ever traitor marines I read about were the Iron Warriors. And damn, these guys are so damn cool, my number 1 favourite traitor legion.
Perterabo the Sasuke of 40k, complains about wanting to kill his brother(s) never goes through with it.Even though is given ample opportunity still complains about wanting to do it.

From honour cometh iron. This is the Unbreakable Litany. May it forever be so. Dominum imperator ac ferrum aeturnum.’ And btw, in this book it's one of the time an Ultramarine is fuckin badass
I just imagine Perturabo leaning back in his chair, looking Dorn in the eyes, and calling him a bitch Hannibal Buress style.

@@tehvaniu6a It still "ambiguous" but it pretty much confirmed, Silver skulls got change from a third founding chapter to a second founding chapter. Question is less are they related to the iron warriors, but more are they still using iron warrior Gene-seed? @@Fourtytwo4242 I mean te IW gene seed is very stable, so they could still be using it, considering there's no files on their origin.
This also gives Black Library an excuse as to why he hasn't done shit for the last millennium, and also he would now be in line with his character.
he also hasn't done anything because the gods of chaos can only order him around if they all agree, which they haven't

@@Seldonlair That sucks. That's up there with "Han who? No family huh? I'm gonna put you as Han 'Solo' on your ID" level of suck.
@@Seldonlair Well, Bile also experimented with a buch of Imperial Fists, so that geneseed could still be descended from Dorn.
Awesome story. Did not know that's why 'Bo has a robot bodyguard.

I love/hate how Alexis Polux was in a position to kill Perturabo in the void battle, and the only reason he doesn’t finish the job is because Dorn sends a message telling him to return to Terra.
So something about that Pharos thing mentioned because it's pretty cool
The thing was NOT imperial- it was actually Xenos, later found out to be Necron. It was basically a tiny Astronomicon.
A certain Machine lover by the name of Cawl went to fuck with its remains and found it was powered by a shard of a C'tan called Zarhulash the Potentate
Cawl promised to free it if it tore down the pharos. It did, but Cawl Scammed it and sent it right in the middle of Hostile Tomb words- The C'tan has sworn revenge. Meanwhile Cawl got a bunch of blackstone AND the locations to OTHER Pharos structures
Last i heard of the pharos was that it was some old xenos tower described as a abandoned hive and figured that it was something left behind by them

And Honsou is also who I would consider to be one of the evilest characters in 40k.

It’s kind of funny how they’ve gone through two episodes and never mentioned it before Purdy showed up, The legion was known as the corpse grinders. And quite frankly I think they should’ve stayed their name except Pertty thought iron warriors was cooler
Corpse grinders is the nick name given to them by their human auxiliaries, referring to their propensity for taking massive casualties.

I believe that's more of an issue with the nature of how GW writes their setting, where they want to have high stakes but keep things relatively stagnant so they can keep popular stuff relevant, a big example of this is *insert blood angel successor chapter here* being brought back from the brink of destruction with the primaris marines. I don't disagree with that sentiment.

8:48 Konrad Curse would like to doubt that statement

Storm of Iron, then the entire Ultramarines series.
