For a moment, I was scared I missed something that may have happened in the last few days, but no. The old late 2000s-early 2010s "she has a penis" rumours just resurfacing. ETA: I've always loved that answer of hers in that one interview. "Maybe I do. Would that be so terrible?" Freaking iconic. She's so right too when she says her fans wouldn't care.
honestly, back in the day, my mom and I heard this rumour and believed it. We said, "good for her" and moved on. I thought she was trans for years until I was corrected lol.
honestly this also happened to Nicki Minaj too and really only stopped once she had a baby lmao, plus Lady Gaga has literally been like "what if i did?" which i genuinely think is hilarious and her sex/parts do not matter. Gaga is an icon, Gaga is eternal. muah.
I think I saw some people sya they still weren't convinced about Nicki. But it could be another one of the people being transvestigated. Basically, people say they "faked" their pregnancy, smh. I don't even understand how people have the time nor energy to even CARE
@@SammyLammy1D one thing i find hilarious, is that they obsess so much about certain individuals who, by any means, are perfect in their own ways and styles, but if the ones criticizing were to apply those same standards to both themselves and your average person on the street, nobody would truly be a "real" woman or man lol.....your average kevin on a monday morning after 4 hours of sleep barely looks like anything.
@alicebthegachaweirdo8378 tbf, that came out of allies looking at the anti-trans rhetoric people like Tate were spewing and pointed out how he actually would fit into the narrow description of how he and others claim they can “always tell” if someone if trans. And then conspiracy theorists ran with it.
The “we can always tell crowd” ironically have quite a talent for literally _never_ being able to tell. It’s like a superpower, their being utterly, consistently incorrect.
oh yeah, of the highest quality lol. she's gotten so much bs thrown her way throughout the years. yet she keeps being iconic and a great artist. i wish i had the same balls.
They see being trans as hiding who you "really" are. Particularly if someone hasn't come out, the rumors (whether true or not) can be used as "evidence" of deception and paint the subject as a "liar". That and, particularly in the case of women, claiming that they "are really men" is a simple way to induce disgust, especially in a straight male audience.
Honestly I am old, i had a transgender boss in the 80s, and honestly have no idea how all this trying to get in other people's pants uninvited became a thing, its disgusting.
Right. Literally the *only* time one *should* care would be if said person has genital preferences/gender preferences/biological s€x preferences *AND* is considering DATING the person they're 'investigating'. People be way too nosy and obsessed with other people's lives 🤷♀
Absurd that these (middle-aged) men asked her these questions during the interviews instead of focusing on her music. Her response, 'Would it be that terrible?' is absolutely beautiful.
Media has always had this sort of reaction to women, especially young women, who gain success, power and influence. It's like they feel it's their duty to knock those women down a peg or two. They've done it to Taylor Swift, too, in a different way, as well as Heart's Wilson sisters, Cyndi Lauper, Madonna and many other women decades ago.
Habe hugs from this tiny cis woman peer. I'm sorry those sexists are so frail on the inside, they need to bark at everyone they can justify to bark at in fear! (=_=#)
I think you should correct them, but what I don't like is when people get offended like "YOU ASSUME I'M TRANS HOW DARE YOU." Because it suggests that there would be something wrong with that.
You can correct them. Just don't make it seem like a big deal. Just like, "Oh, I'm actually a woman." instead of a big blow up like "Can't you tell?!" or "How dare you!"
mmmmm i think it's valid to correct them. Just don't assume the worse when they misgender you, but don't let them walk over you, specially not repeatedly (like in a workplace or something similar)
My only gripe with Gaga, is that some of her lyrics kinda enforce strict gender roles. (Ie: She is woman, therefore *men* should truck her face.) But, it doesn't seem super intentional.
@@Kattlarv mmm i wouldn't say she is enforcing them. If it happens to coincide with her experience or something that inspired her, well, that's exactly how it comes across and it's valid. A lot of my life goes along those, a lot of it doesn't. i'm not suddenly enforcing gender roles if i happen to sing or share experiences about the parts that coincide. And it doesn't detract from the quality. It just may not be for some.
Twitter "Transvestigators" are so weird- Remember when the Barbie movie came out? Some people on Twitter startet accusing Margot Robbie of being trans, a man, & much worse. They even posted pictures of her with circled areas of her body/face or arrows & some notes on why this "part" means that she would be trans. And now I can only think of Lady Gaga's quote in the interview you showed. Why do you/they care? I'm glad though that there are progressive, inclusive, famous people who use their platform & public reach via media to share a positive world view. Thanks for the video.
@@gutbucket6184 I was referring to various insults with that. But yeah, I can see how it could imply that being trans or a man is bad. Thanks for pointing it out!
i mean....i get why, even though i disagree with it. She got a lot of backlash when she first popped into stardom as someone talentless who just got attention by doing crazy shit for the mere sake of it; she got dehumanized a lot in that regard, and the usual misoginy against female pop idols got piled on top, so now, this new icon who's there on a swimsuit or some tight outfit must not only be talentless and an attention seeker, but also not really a woman. And the fact that she had quite a unique facial structure only made some people obsses about it, it was different, it was iconic, and since her humanity didn't come into play once she got painted as talentless and attention seeking, they would talk about her as if they were talking about a thing, a toy. Making fun of her looks, and it evolved into, it's not just that she was weird or ugly but not even a woman. BTW, i don't believe any of this myself. i really like her, i find her talented, beautiful, iconic and with a great personality. But what i described is what i saw happening around me in highschool when she first popped. I feel like a lot of people came around with time and gave her a genuine chance, but many others just went deeper and deeper onto demeaning her.
I think it might have been to hide the rumour or allegations that she killed the musician Lina Morgana and got away with it, saying she didn't know her when they recorded music together...
I loved her response to the rumors. As an intersex trans person, hearing her go "so what if I am???" was so powerful. She gave people's weird reaction the reaction that it deserved-- indifference. Regardless of anything else Lady Gaga ever says and does, I'll remember that, and be grateful for her in those moments.
I am inters e x myself i go by a male name but appear female it is a constant point of contagion since in my language there are no genderneutral pro nounce there isnt even a word for inters e x or transgender just the english words. People always feel entiteld to know what genitals i have wich is disturbing to say the least.
Every accusation is a confession. They are the only ones with a “trans agenda”, which is trying to make the rest of us as hateful as they are and they are the ones interested in what everyone else has in their trousers. “Protect the children!” Until it the abuse comes from their own religion or even their family - all those abusive family TH-cam channels being a prime example. Also Republicans are “pro life” and yet want to take away the school meals and other school funding. Lady Gaga going “would that be so terrible” was a great response. She was so young back then, but knew exactly how to deal with those a**holes.
@@Knoedel4872 Ok. Wie tf geh ich mit euch Enbies um? Sorry, aber das unser Neutrum identisch mit dem weiblichen „sie“ ist, ist ein echtes Problem für mich. Super entspannte Persönlichkeit - und einer der seltenen maskulin-präsentierenden Enbies. Sorry, falls das ein bisschen viel ist. Intersex =/= Enby, ich weiß… ^^;
I never realized how much of a true ally she really was. The fact that she actually sat down and thought what's the best way to answer the accusations, and then delivers the perfect reaction that anyone should have.
It's profitable to be an ally, that's why so many famous people are. When it stops being cool and start being a liability, they will drop it like a sack of potatoes.
As a person with a heavy flow, they definitely can. I used to use a nighttime pad AND a tampon at the same time, and I still had to switch every other hour. People would definitely accuse me of "having a male genital" of they saw pictures of that
That and most women aren't actually flat down there, we aren't barbie dolls. But in all seriousness she eventually confirmed the photos in question were edited.
To be clear, a trans ally. As someone who is bisexual she's queer and part of the LGBTQ+ community herself. (I only say this because she is regularly described in the media as an LGBTQ ally, even though she is bi. Just a lovely example of bi erasure.)
But she's bi and Cis. Being LGB doesn't automatically make an ally. I mean plainly the LGBTQ community is one built around cultural affinity from political coalition/ solidarity to survive so one would hope allyship to different members was part of the gay agenda but that thing never arrives in the mail. I don't know if the agenda even went digital yet /jk
She does have balls though. I don't care if she has literal balls or not, but metaphorically she has some of the biggest balls of any celeb out there ;) She doesn't even flinch when confronted with ridiculous rumors, and even makes them worse, just because ;) Takes balls to do that, and it makes her a better person imho ;)
I fully agree, and it makes the world a better world. I don't know if she also said it's really inappropriate to discuss what people's genitals look like, but I would very much like it if she did. Or just turn it around and discuss the genitals of the person asking about it to let them feel how it feels. But then you of course run the risk that it's a man who has stiff weewees on the mind 24/7 and will gladly stand on the table like a 6yo and drop their pants, but everyone has a phone, so then you can post it on the internet and ridicule it.
@@Knux5577 The truth upset you. Ms. Jammi, a female that suffers from multiple mental disorders, has mutilated breasts and an enlarged, deformed clitoris from taking cross sex hormones with a piece of skin hanging down. she calls a penis. SHE is not a man. Males who go all the way with this sick stuff end up with a hole in their crotch and NOT a vagina. They will have complications their entire lives. As for the girls who get caught up in this, penis NOT real just a piece of skin taken from another part of the body. hanging down. People born with female bodies don't have penile erectile tissue cells, which scientists need from the patient if they're going to create a real penis. Trans men (women) cannot create sperm. It is a delusion that one can change their sex. One can only impersonate outwardly and worse mutilate healthy body parts. Trans people are dysfunctional and often suffer multiple health issues for their entire lives as a result of carving up their bodies to chase the delusion that they can change their sex.
I remember a classmate of mine transvestigating Lady Gaga in the early 2010s as a "controversial topic" public speaking presentation in our English class, it was an interesting time
Even before I knew I was a GNC bi cis woman, there was something about Gaga that drew me to her! I now know why? I love how supportive she is of our Community and that she is bi herself!
What does it mean in your everyday-life to be gender non-conforming? I've never understood what this label actually means, and since I don't present very feminine I wonder if I should start using that word for myself? I'm a homoromantic ace, if that's relevant.
@@SamirCCatgender nonconforming refers to anyone who doesn't identify with the "typical" male or female presentation. It's a very wide umbrella, and includes trans and nonbinary, androgynous, etc
@@goose2888 Well... Isn't the majority of people gender non-conforming then? Sure, some girls are feminine and some guys are masculine, but a lot of people adopt it only because of societal norms. So in reality I assume all sexes are an individual mix of feminine and masculine traits? I mean, non of my female friends would be described as feminine, are we all gender-nonconforming then?
I'm cis, but as a bi man who came out at 19 (shortly after Obergefell,) I actually do remember thinking about these rumors/her refusal to respond to them a couple of times over the years. My theory was always that; given her vocal allyship (and coming out as bi herself,) she was deliberately refusing to respond as an act of solidarity with the trans/intersex communities, to make a point that that being trans/intersex *shouldn't* be something to be ashamed of. I always thought that was really big of her, especially given the rampant queerphobia (and anti-intersex bigotry) of the time. I'm happy to find out my theory was correct! Good on you, Gaga!
I remember seeing those "jokes" and rumors as a child and being so confused asking myself: did they think Gaga looked masculine? She's always looked like a perfectly regular lady to me. Then when I was a teen someone also randomly said I look like I have balls under a picture where I still presented very girly with red lipstick and all and I was like ????? I can't even say this is something people say when they're rejected or when they're attracted to someone with androgynous looks cause neither applies. It's just some weird, wild paranoia.
I just woke up and bro what are these people on, I’m barely a few seconds into the video and how do people constantly prove that they can’t“always tell” 😭
it doesn't matter if she is or isn't trans, we should respect her privacy, nothing would change if she was trans but its also not our business unless she in this hypothetical universe made it out business
Wanting celebs to come out is such a weird grey area. Yes, we want and need more representation in every arena, so coming out is good. On the flip side though, people, including celebrities, deserve privacy and shouldn't be under any obligation to come out. And to make it all even muddier, many of us imagine a post gender/orientation world where it doesn't matter and no one ever even _needs_ to come out at all. It all gets very complicated and contradictory. Who'd have thought that could happen with humans. Lol
i remember this. realizing that i didn't care about it was the first step on my path towards realizing that i didn't care about _anybody's_ gender. _at all._ including _mine._
I can say: As someone with large "lady lips", vulge sized, (they can become up to 6+ inches), I've run into this myself quite a few times. I can also sadly say that IF someone were to drops their pants and prove these people wrong: I can assure everyone that they'd just swap to claiming that "*That's* a botched surgery!" or claim that "See? We TOLD you it was true that you could 'blow it out' by being promiscuous!". There's just no win situation there. Just misogyni.
I was once in school accused of not wearing knickers after I went on the swing and a couple of other girls said they saw I wasn't. A teacher got involved and believed them, was telling me off for not wearing knickers when I very much was. So I lifted up my skirt to prove it, after trying every other way to explain that I was, and then I got into even more trouble for doing that and I still don't know that they believed me because they looked away when I did it. It was so frustrating, there was no winning! How else was I meant to prove I was wearing them?? I think it happened because my knickers were skin coloured with a black crotch, I have sensory issues and they were the only ones I found comfortable, the crotch was black because I was wearing them inside out.

You're living my goal apparently. 3 1 /2 years on T, pre surgery and currently I go stealth trans guy mode with either hoodies or wide shirts. I really really wanna present more feminine at some point again but right now my general social anxiety has spiked like never before and I barely leave the appartment anymore. But yeah, I imagine that some day I will walk down the street as I always wanted and will succesfully confuse the transvestigators.
@InsomniacMoonbat you'll get there. I've been in exactly your shoes. For me it started with doing just fun make up things on my own again. And wearing a skirt but in a masc way. I think it makes sense that we have to oscillate between the extremes until we find our perfect spots of comfort ❤️
Being gender non conforming is bizarre in public. I've had grown men argue over whether my skirt was a kilt or not ( it's a kilt with a flattering curve cut not a square i like pockets).... BUT ALL KILTS ARE SKIRTS. Like anyone can wear one. They were really trying to fight over i was a pretty man or a woman that it wouldn't be gay to harass.
@@boneitch I mean I have been wearing some make up especially during pride month in the last years. But right now my anxiety is so high, that I even got rid of a lot of rainbow buttons on my backpack. I try to keep the more specific pride flags still visible to the people who know their colors and meaning. At work, where I feel a little bit safer with my colleagues around most of the time, I keep my they/them button on. Most people read me as a man nowadays, although it sometimes happens that they think I'm a woman because of my voice. Being misgendered as a guy is a hundred times better for me, so currently I heavily lean into the masc side. If it wasn't for the damn anxiety I would love to wear my (pride) tights again more often and put on some lipstick and eyeliner. But no matter if people would clock me as trans or think I'm a gay man, I feel totally unsafe at the moment.
Can we talked about the entitlement to women's bodies especially within the entertainment industries. Mostly how especially in this context it's like if Lady Gaga were a dude like yeah there'd be certain generated curiosity but it wouldn't be as much of a demand. Here it seems like people are demanding to know whether she has certain genitalia or not. And it's kind of gross to see the entitlements surrounding the acquisition of knowledge around women's bodies in the entertainment industry
13:05 Jamie Lee Curtis's daughter is also really amazing, I've had the privilege and opportunity to meet her as we're both indie VTubers in the EN space. She goes by Charity Goblin Ruby online and does a lot of charity fundraising with her content and streams, and is really kind. ^^
Anderson Cooper is an example of how you can be in the community and still get these interactions wrong. Just because we're queer doesn't give us a pass. Those of us who are cis and not intersex need to do better to support our trans, enby, intersex siblings. Some of that means learning when to shut up and when we need to take accountability for our harmful behavior/ignorance.
It sucks, too, because he ALMOST asks the right question. Focusing on her response and how her team handled it *is* an interesting point. Is it because "it's no one's business" or "because denying it makes it sound like it's shameful" *is* a compelling conversation and he didnt ask it. It's almost like he was too embarassed to ask the question he should have or if he was trying to stop himself/a producer from asking to confirm the rumors (which he could have been. I have no idea how those reporters stay coherant with a producer in 1 ear)
@@savannahs8914, I was curious when this interview was, and it's from 2011. For the time period, it's not too bad (but still not great). It's also a year before Anderson Cooper publicly came out as well. Anyway, that was just some interesting context I found. It's wild to think how much attitudes have changed in 13 years, not enough, but some progress.
To be fair outside, he is probably one of the most privileged out of touch member of the community, dude is literally a vanderbilt. Also, it doesn't seem to be that uncommon, Peter Thiel is g@y and awful to lgbtqia + community.
I remember this accusation when I first was learning what transgender meant. I think it affected the way I started worrying about this new way of doing the mysogyny and how it became a world phenomenon ... sooooo glad I don't have to worry about that these days 😣
Watched a video recently about Eurythmics and it had how Annie Lennox's gender was questioned and MTV wouldn't show their videos until she provided a birth certificate.
Unbelievable how exceptionally weird people can be...birth certificate???? They should be ashamed to even think such a thing is an appropriate request.
Lady Gaga is such an amazing artist. She is super talented and kind. Lady Gaga is so comfortable with herself that she is able to stand strong in her own power.
What she said with Bill Gates honestly...means a lot, in those years I was the kid that she was talking about, a young kid that was starting to question their gender identity. Her mindset and way that she reacted really did help me as a kid I was 9 when the rumours started and remember it all when I was 11-12, when the realization that I had dysphoria started to really hit. Unfortunately other influences prevented me from coming out until last year but now that I'm out, I've been transitioning for a year and looking back on how she was and stood by us really was a huge comfort, even if I didn't fully appreciate it at the time
I remember all this from the beginning, and thinking Good for You, Gaga! The ludicrous accusations were met with grace and a refusal to throw anyone under the bus by denying any of the rumors. She's a great musician, actress and humanitarian. Full stop.
"What if I do? would it be do terrible?" is SUCH a good response. she didn't care about defending her identity, she was just questioning the peopke who where so concerned about the rumors. trying to maje people realize it doesn't even matter
They do this same with all popular female celebrities. I’ve seen some about Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Gwendoline Christie, and Winona Ryder in recent years.
All celebrities should just come on stage with strap-ons in the future, so he media can talk about their strap-on fashion sense instead! 🤦♀ And when I say "stap-ons" there should be all forms that genitals can be + also alien ones, for funsies!
You add a layer of complexity I hadn’t thought about. The phenomena is rooted in misogyny, “How can a biological woman be so successful? She must be a man in disguise.”
i remember being a young kid and asking why everyone hated Lady Gaga. the best answer i could get was "she likes women." i had no idea this was the full controversy going around at the time
The old-fashioned term for "intersex" was probably too misleading for anyone to ever reclaim it, but I think that a term that smooshes together the name of a god and goddess is not a terrible idea. The historian Bettany Hughes has a lot to say about the goddess Aphrodite sometimes having been depicted as male or intersex.
oh but I forgot to add, that I have seen some intersex people using it for themselves, especially some with a certain diagnosis that has hermaphrodism in it's name. So this is like always not a universal experience and people are individuals
It is more that is just isn't medically the same as intersex. Hermaphrodite species are 50% male and 50% female and both have full capability to become pregnant or impregnate. It isn't medically the same for intersex, it is far more complex, but even for an intersex person that does have relatively even parts, I don't think there has ever been a recorded case of one being able to both naturally inseminate AND be able to become pregnant, and least not by their own ovum, as usually if an intersex person has testicles they don't have ovaries, and vise versa.
My perspective on it is hermaphrodite isn't a medical term for intersex because a true hermaphrodite, someone who has both sets of fully functioning genitalia, is a fictional being. It's kind of like calling someone who is missing an eye a cyclops.
Once again.... the confidence at which they lie about people, is outrageous. She is a really strong woman to have put up with all that discrimination (for no apparent reason) without the victim mentality. Good for her. Kudos for Lady Gaga. And then there's JK Rowlings.....
You know .... sometimes I think that having our own abusers amongst our peers is also a form of gender equality, considering how men's ranks are CRAWLING with them. I just wished we'd be overall better at holding them accountable. Which we are (within our individually possible scale) and also legally would if we were given the damn legal power to do it!
Thank you for the education - I didn't know that h...........e was an unacceptable term now even though I just use the term intersex anyways because I don't think I've had to use the archaic term in a long ass time.
These people should just admit their misogynistic, I cant believe they think throwing trans/intersex women under the bus would distract people from what they're actually saying
In 2008-9 I was living with my girlfriend who was OBSESSED with Gaga and would play her album on repeat all day long. To this day, every time I do the dishes I think about Lady Gaga. Happy times 💜
I got a new rumour, and that is Jammy is trans! And a very good man, very manly man with a real beard and deep voice , if i was ever manly as him i would be very sad for I'm a woman.
I don't follow celebrities and I've always been of the opinion that a celebrity's private life should be private, including what's in their pants. When I first heard of Lady Gaga, it was with the implication that she was at least a cross-dressing man, if not trans (not that I knew the word at the time). My response? A shrug. Not hurting anyone; not my business. It's only now (as in watching this very video) that I'm learning that that info was false, but it never coloured my opinion of anyone if they were cross-dressers or trans. Now, I've come a long way in the last 10-20 years. I've come to understand the LGBT+ community a lot better (and my place in it as an ace) and now I can understand the implications of those "accusations" a lot better (being autistic didn't help...) and appreciate her not feeding into that toxic rhetoric. Good on her!
Even before Gaga, I remember PINK was also transvestigated because of her body type. It reached mainstream media, and it was def in the tabloid magazines/sites with "proof." I remember thinking it was all such BS, even though I knew next to nothing about trans people at the time (I'm cis).
I mean yeah, but so is thinking that if you believe you are something you really are that something AND everything else has to know that miraculously as if they can read your mind, and believe it too, despite the fact that every sense (sight, hearing, smell, touch) and their own logic tell them otherwise.
I realized I was bisexual when I watched a fan art video with bad romance in the background. I came out as trans in Highschool andher music came back to me when I needed her most due to relentless bullying. she gives me so much confidence her born this way record legit brought me and my dad closer together. my dad told me a true story from the 90s him and my grandmother were on the public bus and a homeless trans man and trans woman. they were a cute couple they boarded the bus. him and my grandma baked food and got together some nice dresses and my dad got some of his clothes and they got back on the bus when they bumped back into the trans couple they gave them clothes and food. I'm so proud to be here. he might not understand but he loves me and knows he should be kind. Gaga has influenced me to be a better person.
It never fails to amaze me... how nosy and obsessed with other people's lives some individuals are 🤷♀ Way, waaaay too many individuals, actually. Literally the *only* time one *should* care would be if said person has genital preferences/gender preferences/biological s€x preferences *AND* is considering DATING the person they're 'investigating'. Then it'd be valid. Other than that? I never gave a damn if people around me are gay, bi, trans, pan, identify as a unicorn, whatever. As long as they're a decent person to be around and don't act crazy, obsessed and entitled about what they are or what they identify as.
Exactly. If I ain't tryna get my hands down your pants, your business is business. I don't want or need to know. You're a human who deserves respect. That's all.
I am 70 and I hope that by the time I leave this planet this will no longer be a conversation or an issue. What's in our pants and what we feel about it and do with it is NO ONE'S BUSINESS.
Nonbinary and trans peeps: thinking about naming myself Caligo. It means dark and fog in Latin, and it's a type of butterfly. Is Caligo a good name? Do you have alternatives? Preferably nature themed and starting with the letter C.
The Jamie Lee Curtis discussion made me flashback to one of my teachers in middle school (so I think I was around 12) talking about the rumor with the class and treating it like it was something scandalous. As an uncracked egg, I know it made me wildly uncomfortable to see people's reactions but I couldn't articulate why. I'm glad Lady Gaga responded to that kind of rumor with so much positivity, as I'm sure it helped many people.
Absolutely one of the most talented and wonderful performing artists of our time. She has been classy right down the line. We are blessed to have her in our time. Thanks for this story. I only knew her music for years. So much more respect for her.
I have been incorrectly identified multiple times among my friend group, I was told that I would never be a man on multiple occasions, my birth mother was accused of being secretly trans. at the end of the day, it is nearly entirely just traditional values and fear that drives transphobia. there is no logic or reasoning behind it.
THis reminds me of when Laverne Cox came out and everybody suddenly decided they HAD to know if she still had a penis or had gotten surgery and it is INSANE how invasive this shit is, and people I had thought I could respect I found out real fast that I could not respect at all. I remember this a little and I feel so bad for Lady Gaga for this shit.
I also grew up with the Jamie Lee Curtis thing (I'm an 80s kid, born '79) and it was one of the most pervasive rumors at the time, and it was presented as fact that she was born intersex and they gave her surgery to "make" her female and that was why she looked the way she did (I'm sorry how does she look? LOL) I also heard similar things about Linda Hamilton (Terminator) because she "wasn't feminine" enough to be a "real woman" wtf does THAT mean, growing up as well. If a woman didn't fit the narrow "80s/90s" ideal, they must have been a man! Cannot tell you how many times I heard the "I think they might have an adam's apple must be a man!!!" like. no. Yes it is more common for afab individuals to have a fat pocket over the hyoid bone, it is also quite common for them not to. Yes it is more common for amab individuals to have a prominent hyoid bone but that is ALSO quite common for them not to. It means. Literally. Nothing. I also remember the whole "fat deposits" and "body shapes' nonsense from years and years ago, when they ragged on Princess Stephanie in the 80s for maybe being a man because her body was "too square" to be a woman's body. Like wtf even. (Eventually they tried to make up for it by using her in examples of what to wear if your body wasn't traditionally "feminine" shaped" and saying if you looked like that it was vital you wore a bikini.........still falling into the disgusting trap of "if it doesn't fit my standards, it's WRONG. like, no stop).
I can't say I've ever really enjoyed her music, but I absolutely respect and admire her as a person and a performer. I know my kids love her music, so I'm sure I'll eventually hear more of it.
Being a woman doesn't make you feminist (see J.K.R) being part of LGBTQIA+ community, doesn't automatically wipe your bigotry for all groups within that. 🥲 Being part of any marginalised group does not mean that people won't throw peers under the bus just to escape violence!
I remember this being in the news and my nephew spoke about it, my response was, “do you like her music”, he said “yes” and then I said, “well does it matter then”
Your hero would speak very differently on the subject in a decade ot two, lol. The moment this trans s**t stops being cool and acceptable, she would do a 180 so fast you will need treatment for the whiplash.
I think the only reference to the rumors i heard at the time was the line in the "Telephone" video (prison guards: "Told ya she didn't have a dick."), but dang, that interview answer was classy.
I remember when this happened. At the time I distinctly remember thinking "who the heck cares, the music is fun," and then she came out with almost the same statement. That's when I started having some respect for Lady Gaga, because it was when she started showing that she had some real substance.
For a moment, I was scared I missed something that may have happened in the last few days, but no. The old late 2000s-early 2010s "she has a penis" rumours just resurfacing.

Why do people even care if someone is trans? Like I'm genuinely confused.
People be way too nosy and obsessed with other people's lives 🤷♀
exactly, its frankly weird how often some people think about other peoples genitals tbh
trans people are different from cis people so cis people get mad
Absurd that these (middle-aged) men asked her these questions during the interviews instead of focusing on her music. Her response, 'Would it be that terrible?' is absolutely beautiful.
And these men obviously used their power and position to intimidate her...which she didnt flinch.
That so many men feel comfortable/entitled discussing her body is ample evidence that she's a woman.
In any other circumstance, they would never ask a woman about her reproductive organs because they only think it's ok if they're transphobic.
well, in reality women asked her too and were no different
Media has always had this sort of reaction to women, especially young women, who gain success, power and influence. It's like they feel it's their duty to knock those women down a peg or two.
They've done it to Taylor Swift, too, in a different way, as well as Heart's Wilson sisters, Cyndi Lauper, Madonna and many other women decades ago.
I'm a very tall Cis gender woman, and have always hated being misgendered. This made me think. Now I think I won't say anything.!
You're a WOMAN. Not a "cis woman"
I think she answered it perfectly.
Who cares if she has b@lls she’s amazing.
way too many people for some reason
My only gripe with Gaga, is that some of her lyrics kinda enforce strict gender roles. (Ie: She is woman, therefore *men* should truck her face.) But, it doesn't seem super intentional.
W Lady Gaga moment
I'm a little "eh" to some of her songs enforcing stereotypical gender roles. But, it doesn't seem too intentional.
The “much worse” part implies that being trans is bad. (Although you could just be referring to calling someone trans as an insult being wrong.)
@@gutbucket6184 I was referring to various insults with that.
But yeah, I can see how it could imply that being trans or a man is bad. Thanks for pointing it out!
Yep. And yet there was an actual trans person in that movie and....crickets about that.
damn I had forgot that was a rumour going around when I was in high school... I never understood why people made such a big deal about it
i mean....i get why, even though i disagree with it.
She’s bi though
But she's bi and Cis. Being LGB doesn't automatically make an ally.

Wanting celebs to come out is such a weird grey area. Yes, we want and need more representation in every arena, so coming out is good. On the flip side though, people, including celebrities, deserve privacy and shouldn't be under any obligation to come out. Was it Trash Theory ? I remember that video.
Wow, that sounds transphobic AF. Literally why should it matter? Metal bands were wearing eyeliner and nail polish around the same time.
@@TheUnheardSoul23 Yes, it was.
What the hell?!?
Unfortunately other influences prevented me from coming out until last year but now that I'm out, I've been transitioning for a year and looking back on how she was and stood by us really was a huge comfort, even if I didn't fully appreciate it at the time
I feel that on so many levels. Specifically the school stuff, is trying to rearrange rumors can be dangerous depending on where you level.
Nothing can smear the Talent she has . Haters will be haters. I really like her .
I prefer "haters will be held accountable" though.
She also once said “my beautiful vagina is very offended by that question” in the 2009 interview
Only she could pull off saying that...❤ GAGA!
i remember being a young kid and asking why everyone hated Lady Gaga. the best answer i could get was "she likes women." i had no idea this was the full controversy going around at the time
I was really confused abt the title wondering "hasn't this happened already?"
@@audreytwo Fictional for humans, in medical terms there are species that are functionally equally female and male.
Here because I got a transphobic ad on another video, need to remind my algorithm that I'm a raging leftist and extremely trans.
I literally just found out my father is a transphobe. 😭😭😭😭
rip
Many such cases :/
im so sorry...
You mean he doesn't share your delusions?
It’s all just so pathetically embarrassingly stupid.
My favourite Lady Gaga interview was on Graham Norton, with the lady that played zdot cotton from east enders, absolutely wonderful.
The transvestigators are so ridiculous & illogical. I can't believe anyone takes that stuff seriously.
I mean yeah, but so is thinking that if you believe you are something you really are that something AND everything else has to know that miraculously as if they can read your mind, and believe it too, despite the fact that every sense (sight, hearing, smell, touch) and their own logic tell them otherwise.
@@saoirse2963TERFs are the most devout misogynists.
That's entirely up to you but since you value the opinion of a stranger on the internet enough to ask, I like it. 🫶🏻
@@Toni-lo9ms I mean, value is a strong word. But I want to make sure it doesn't sound completely stupid and I'm just not noticing lol thanks

Lady Gaga is awesome, I've been a fan of her ever since I was a kid in the 2000s
Rah, rah-ah-ah-ah

Lady Gaga is not trans
Absolutely one of the most talented and wonderful performing artists of our time. She has been classy right down the line. We are blessed to have her in our time. Thanks for this story. I only knew her music for years. So much more respect for her.
At this point, every woman no matter what is gonna be called "guy"
LOL)
I also heard similar things about Linda Hamilton (Terminator) because she "wasn't feminine" enough to be a "real woman" wtf does THAT mean, growing up as well.
7:32 Let's hope it continues.
Americans, be sure to vote as blue as you can, please.
I can't say I've ever really enjoyed her music, but I absolutely respect and admire her as a person and a performer. I know my kids love her music, so I'm sure I'll eventually hear more of it.
Omg the title scared me for a second.
Gaga made me come to terms with my sexuality and gender identity, she's how I accepted myself. She's an absolute sweetheart
Can’t believe Anderson cooper, a member of the queer community, asked that…
Being a woman doesn't make you feminist (see J.K.R) being part of LGBTQIA+ community, doesn't automatically wipe your bigotry for all groups within that. 🥲 Being part of any marginalised group does not mean that people won't throw peers under the bus just to escape violence!
While I think he is a little better now, Anderson Cooper has actually done quite a few insensitive interviews with other minority celebrities.
I think this was before he came out, so part of being closeted is choosing sides in situations like this.
i can

Your hero would speak very differently on the subject in a decade ot two, lol. The moment this trans s**t stops being cool and acceptable, she would do a 180 so fast you will need treatment for the whiplash.

I agree completely on this. I give Lady Gaga lots of credit for reacting the way she did.

Earliest I've ever been!! :D Love your videos, Jamie :]
I remember when this happened. At the time I distinctly remember thinking "who the heck cares, the music is fun," and then she came out with almost the same statement. That's when I started having some respect for Lady Gaga, because it was when she started showing that she had some real substance.
