I think Bekele is one of the three greatest long distance runners. 42k Eliud Kipchoge, 5,000 and 10,000 meters Kenenisa Bekele, 1,500 to 2,000 meters Hicham El Guerrouj.
Don't forget Abebe Bikila of Ethiopia. and also check this chart to see who has more olympic gold in marathon en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marathons_at_the_Olympics
Just earlier today, at the 2019 Berlin Marathon, KB missed the marathon world record by 2 seconds. Had he been 2-3 seconds faster he'd have been the first to EVER hold all three world records: 5K, 10K & Marathon simultaneously. (And he finished today looking like he could've gone those 3 seconds faster (easily). Wow. Unquestionably THE greatest distance runner of all time.
Mr Bekele is thought full, logical, and above all a disciplined athlete. He always shows that with his eyemovement on cameras - shyness that will tell you there is something to come tomorrow. I belive he read the play book of the Roman Epire - he undestood that human heart is palable to failure out of reservations. Note: I am his country man so may be biased.
This man was amazing. I am a sprinter so I don't know much about the distance runner's but in recent time my fiancé who is Ethiopian has told me about him. I'm so grateful for this outstanding video on him, well done. He's inspired me to compete again. His workouts were insane & it's no wonder he was so great. The thing I notice about him is his excellent sprint form as a distance runner & his absolute power in his legs. The man is special. Thank you so much for this video, absolutely astonishing.
My top 5 runners of all time: 1) Kenenisa Bekele 2) Haile Gebrselassie 3) ELiud Kipchoge (If he breaks 2 hours he may move up to 2nd) 4) Mo Farah 5) Paul Tergat
Very great Video one of the best Bekele analysis I have seen. This man is underrated he deserves so much recognition after what he has done for running world It’s beyond world to me how people can’t see that he is the great distance runner ever. Not only in Running, he is one Greatest sportsman of 21 century!
You are a great historian and student of the sport. Thank you for making these videos, you are preserving the stories of some of the greatest athletes of all time. This is fantastic work and will remind us of our running legends long into the future!
Great video as always. At his peak this man was a beast. That’s why every time I saw him On the starting line as a Kenyan I would start cursing under his breath. Just watch the 2007 World cross in Mombasa when Bekele pulled out of the race mid way... we, Kenyans, celebrated as if we had already won the race... 👏👏👏 great video man
this guy is a beast, but his training plan is simply too hard on his body to not sustain injury as he gets older and moves to roads. It is still a great plan for the track and 5-10km distance this is why eliud kipchoge is so great, his training is never too fast, always below 90% of his max.
Watching these videos while I am writing my graduation thesis paper. Keninisa Bekele is undefeated and I hate to see people here comparing him to Kipchoge. Kenenisa runs with passion and love.
This is the best running video I ( everyone in the office after 3:30 pm) have ever seen as an Epidemiologist!!! Awesome video, glad to see you're living the dream! GAEIP misses you!!!-- yup, even Emily.
The G.O.A.T. debate of Bekele vs Haile is a great conversation. But I think the true GOAT could have been Daniel Komen. Just not sure what happened to him.
@@bijohn333 Thank you, I wasn't aware of this. I was referring to Daniel Komen's outdoor record of 7:58, but I wasn't clear enough. I feel like Bekele would have been able to run sub 8 in his prime. If he didn't break the record, he could have at least joined Komen as the only two people who have broken 8.
I remember watching our runners on tv and feeling so patriotic, our runners are the best and our gov should really step up their game and find pure talents like Kenenisa and Tirunesh otherwise we will be forgotten and their hard work will go down to waste.
UNBELIEVABLE! INCREDIBLE! I am experiencing new AND renewed admiration for Kenenisa Bekele. Thank you for this bio on his art form of racing/training and his strife during it all. Questions: Do you think that his challenges made him a greater runner? And, is he a single man (unmarried) and doesn't have any distraction in his training? Also, does he have a trainer or a team that works with his training? I echo one of the other comments by saying: I threw up in my mouth just looking at the training schedule!
wawu bekele is the best in the world athletic champions I love you so much bekele more than all runner. so I am thinking all competition time when you back in the track run please come I miss you
It’s amazing that even 15+ years back, Bekele could kick a final mile in a 5K or 10K in comfortably under 4 minutes while until the fifties, people wondered if a 4-minute mile was humanly possible.
Proud to call myself Ethiopian where dozens of Gold medalists were born and raised. Its well known now that Ethiopians are the fastest long distance runners and its been that way since 1970s, 50+ years in a row and it will probably stay this way for centuries to come. God bless Ethiopia and her beautiful people. The only African country that has NEVER been colonized. Been kicking the europeans butts on the battlefield and the tracks. Thats Ethiopia!!! 🦁🦍🕊️
@@stephenstrange4512 Haile comes second for sure. Bekele improved Haile's world records, won both golds at the olympics and is the most successful cross country runner as well.
10:10 Maybe that insane training while running track took its toll on his body hampering him with injuries when he moved to the road. His marathon training had the same mileage or even slightly less at around 110-120 mi/week (whereas Kichoge supposedly runs like 160 mi/week). So wish this GOAT ran the Tokyo’21 Olympics marathon before retiring.
And Kenenisa Bekele will go on to be the World’s Men Marathon record holder one day with due respect for Kipchoge. I have great respect for both of them but Kenenisa Bekele is of another league.
Very brave thing to say. Lets not get ahead of ourselves. One good race does not mean more good ones. Hes already consistent. With that said, i would love to see those two head to head on a good day
I am Kenyan who knows Kenenisa. I will forever miss him on the 5k and 10k. Running with a smile making it look easy! The greatest of all time.
A Kenyan calling him the greatest of all time, that’s good enough for me!
Kipchoge maybe the king of Marathons but Bekele is greatest of all time!

Kenenisa was the little dynamo. He was packed wth slow and fast twitching muscles. No one could beat him in speed and stamina
In Spanish we call Kenenisa Bekele.... “El Demonio del Tartán”. Definitely one of the greatest !
Such a blessing to see him give God the Glory for his distancing start and after he win! Yea! Amen
One of the greatest distance runner ever is the king Kenenisa Bekele and we Ethiopian proud of you.

Thank you so much for preparing Kenenisa Bekele's brief history!!!! He is my most favoured man from athletics world while Messi from soccer world!!!!
I’m here after he missed the world record by 2 seconds what a beast
Our country Ethiopia is proud of him and Haile Gebresillase
Raul Grasso I was at that race and got a selfie with him after!
Raul Grasso he not missed world record by 2 second he is running as pace maker
if he was in the same situation as eluid, he would've broken the 2 hour mark
Bekele>kipchoge what can I say, he holds 3 records kipchoge holds 1, and bekele isn’t much slower than him at the marathon either 🤷♂️
