    Bekele is the perfect runner. He is the only distance runner in history to have the full package of. Endurance, speed, speed endurance, efficiency, form, up and downhill running in cross country etc. He's got it all. He was so perfectly armed with every skill that commentators would openly admit that there was just no strategy to beat him. If Bekele was in a race, you'd just have to forget about gold.

    • @aarontewelde3577
      @aarontewelde3577 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      ***** Bekele was primarily a 10,000 m runner so my statement is particularly referring to 10,000 m races with Bekele.
      On your point about the 2004 olympics, the fact that it took the greatest middle distance runner ever (arguably) to beat Bekele over a sprint finish just emphasizes my point. Bekele had the potential to burn out El G with relentless 62 second laps but he just did not gauge his tactics well enough. It was not a matter of him being incapable of beating El G.

    • @TheLambCannon
      @TheLambCannon 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Aaron tewelde Clearly, he's a great runner, but specifically WHICH commentators "would openly admit that there was just no strategy to beat him"? Never heard anyone say that. Also proved untrue by Kipchoge in 2003, who had the perfect strategy to beat him. Also, how is he "the only runner in history" to have endurance, etc. etc?

    • @aarontewelde3577
      @aarontewelde3577 8 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Gary Williams I have watched so many of Bekele's races it would be so hard for me to remember which race the commentators admitted that there was no strategy to beat Bekele. 2003 is only the year Bekele started rising to prominence so you could account for the fact that he lacked tactical experience then. However, that was the first and last time Kipchoge ever beat Bekele. Kipchoge raced Bekele for the rest of his track career and retired without ever beating him.
      I could easily prove that Bekele is the greatest in regards to all the tools that a distance runner needs.
      Can you think of any other distance runner who had Bekele's package? Even the great Haile lacked a little bit of Bekele's speed. Not only that but he also broke Haile's world records with impressive margins. Where Haile failed to succeed in cross country, Bekele became the greatest cross country runner ever seen with an unprecedented 11 titles. Tergat comes in second place with only 5 titles just to give you a perspective of Bekele's greatness.

    • @aarontewelde3577
      @aarontewelde3577 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ***** Haile Gebrselassie never had Bekele's ability to switch gears. That is why Gebrselassie never succeeded in cross country while Bekele absolutely dominated it. Bekele's speed was also better than Haile's.

    • @abaddonalvah4772
      @abaddonalvah4772 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Aaron tewelde Hey dude, I see you on a lot of running vids and you seem to know what your talking about. Do you think that Bekele was born with this talent or is it just plain hard work? Because there are many athletes that I think train just as hard as Bekele but not nearly as good..

    For those commenting on him running after the race: do keep in mind this is an athlete that can run 4:04 pace for 3.1 miles, and 4:13 pace for 6.2.
    When you are that fit, running around at an 8 minute pace might as well be walking. It's nothing. Guys like Bekele can go for an easy "jog" at 5:45 type pace. Haile has said that he could never run slower than 6:30 miles because it felt "too slow/awkward"

Mo has proved he is a great competitor but never competed against the best of the best at their best. Bekele, Haile and Komen were in a class of their own. Not taking anything away from Mo, he can/could only race against the people around at the time. I think an older but still hopefully fit Bekele could possibly still get the marathon record in the next couple of years. Maybe London 17??? Imagine you were behind the pace lights. That ruins your stride and mentally messes you up. There are equal arguments on both sides of the equation, however I feel the IAAF made this change for the technological advancements of the sport. Its a hard pill to swallow rn, but its for the future!

      @@narenn91 thats the whole point my friend. Whether the lights are in front or behind you, it tells you to not go over or under pace! Keep in mind no one even cheptegei ever came close to the records until the lights showed up. There was no one that came to even 12:40. That shows you how much advantage they have. Also the womens 10,000m and 5000m as well. Records achieved with those lights should be held 'separately' just like kipchoges marathon.
      Also why don't you see lights at world championships or olympics?

I was watching a video on Daniel Komen just before and he was running a 2.26minute kilometre when he broke the mens 3000m outdoor record. If Daniel Komen were to repeat that exact pace for a 5000m race, he'd of finished the 5K in 11.18.00. Running a 5K in 11 minutes and 18 seconds would've been insane, I'm surprised Komen didn't even get himself a world record in general for the mens 5000m

Like wavelight pacing which is 100% accurate and a bouncy track/shoes. 12:35 is insane but for me Bekeles 12:37 is much more impressive. Incline training will turn you into a machine. I ran on a 15-17% incline @ 4mph for about 2 months on a treadmill, 2-3 times a week for an hour straight each session, and my 5k time went from around 26:00 to 16:12. I'm 30, and used to weigh about 350 lbs(now ~175). It completely blew my mind that I was able to do a sub-20 after that.

    D-grade recording crew: photographer gnats swarm instantly, too many head & torso shots, useless dot-on-screen zoom outs, no emphasis on leg turnover. But the champion's work is an inspiration.

      Because he made a mistake by going our way too slow. Even in this world record race he went out too slow. He could have ran 12:31

    Running at a slower pace than you're capable of actually can be really frustrating. I'm a useless fat rookie runner who can only do a 10 minute mile, but even an 11:30 minute mile drove me insane. Even at those low speeds I got impatient and it really did feel "too slow and awkward" so I know exactly what Haile is getting at.
    These guys "light warmup jog" makes my sprinting look like I'm glued to the spot.
