We drove almost 7000 miles to bring Nikolai home from hot and humid Florida to the wild snowy mountains up north where he’s already getting a preview of how amazing life will be for him 🥺❤️ Huskies BELONG in the cooler climates, and we’re so excited to give him what a husky deserves. @@huskysquad Please update us how he's settling into his new home! Yes agree with your video on huskies, did you know over 10,000 huskies die in California shelters each year? That why as a fellow husky owner it upsets me when I hear people say 'I want a husky cause I like Balto and Togo movies' a cartoon is not the same as a real life dog. Then they get upset when husky rescues deny their applications which I express to them that they are particular about who adopts them because they were tossed away in shelters because people can't handle them, so the rescues are more likely to let someone was has previously/currently owns huskies. I always HIGHLY recommend to first time husky prospects to volunteer at husky rescues so they can get the feel for the breed. I rescued my girl from a high kill shelter in 2015, I was so sad after my akita inu/husky mix died at 17 years and I was really depressed and gained weight. I was originally getting a puppy husky when I came across my Duchess at the animal shelter, albeit to me I DID NOT know at the time it was a high kill they told me that they had not done a behavioral assessment on her so they didn't know her temperament but that she was going to be put down in 24 hours and that did it, I signed the paperwork, they spayed her and let me take her home the following day. I've had her since, the first day in our home she jumped into our arms to kiss us. I've had her ever since and looking to add more to the pack

Great meeting technique!! Co walking pre- tired dogs- you rarely see that but it's so much better. less prone to fights, sets a great tone for the dynamics, working with dogs psychology 😁👏👏

What a beautiful precious animal his eyes look right into your soul
I rescued my new Husky in January 2021 from Croatia,she is 10 years old and a wonderful soul! She is my third rescue Husky..my other Huskys were from Italy and Portugal but both passed away. Beside my old Husky i have a 1 year old Husky.

I’m so happy you added another addition, he is so lucky to have been adopted by your family. 🤍
But I do want to touch on some misinformation. The first being that you said many of the huskies in shelters are the ones you’d buy from breeders. Good breeders (actual good breeders who breed to preserve and better) don’t allow their offspring to end up in rescue, it’s in their contract. I’ve never personally seen a well-bred dog from a good breeder end up in main stream rescue.
That doesn’t mean you can get a beautiful or amazing pure-bred dog from rescue/shelters, it just won’t be well-bred. Nikolai would never have been bred by a good breeder considering his coat color disqualifies him from standard. That doesn’t mean he’s any less valuable and amazing, it just means he likely was from a backyard breeder or a breeder who greedily breeds for coat color and doesn’t vet their buyers.
I only say this because good breeders are not the reasons rescues/shelters exist. Though good breeders are the reason the Husky breed you love so much came into development.
Mind you this is coming from someone with 8 animals, (4 dogs, 3 cats, 1 rabbit) and all of them are rescues, except for 1.
The second being that the training program you designed will work for every dog, no training method in the world will work for every dog, dogs are individuals with individual needs, and deserve to have training that’s tailored to fit them. I’m sure your training program may be a good place to start or a baseline, but I’d caution against telling people it’s the end all, be all.
For example, our girl Indy came to us so incredibly neophobic and fearful- she would excrete and urinate herself at the mere site of strangers 60 ft away, and even just when passing inanimate objects. Mind you, she is embarked as a low content wolf dog. I’m sure your program couldn’t account for her individuals needs when we first adopted her. That’s just an example.
I hope these criticisms don’t come across harshly, I truly love your channel and think you guys have so much good information, and I adore the way you clearly love your dogs and give them a life they deserve.
Thank you for your comment, Emilie. 🙏 I disagree with your criticism, and I think you’re misinterpreting some of the things I said. In regards to your two points which you referred as misinformation, I believe you took some things I said out of context and/or did not fully listen to what I said in the video. Or perhaps I wasn’t extensively detailed (which would extend the video) and you filled in the blanks.
However, I really do appreciate constructive criticism. I didn’t take your response harshly at all because I know my truth, and I’m very familiar with the points you made. In regards to breeding and adoption/rescuing, I may go into more detail in future videos. As for our bonding and training course, it’s a big project, and we’re very excited to share more details soon! Thank you and have an amazing day! ❤️🐾

Such good news! Our small-town rescue took in a big, beautiful guy with blue eyes. Gorgeous, but he was huge with no training. He had made himself the alpha male in his home & the owners could no longer handle him. While walking him, he'd drag you all over the place. He was abt 2 yrs old and not neutered. He went out to a big city rescue. I hope he found the perfect home. ♥️♥️♥️
Oh yeah, Huskies can be a stubborn handful sometimes! It’s going to take a lot of exercise before he’s ready to learn new things! 😅❤️ I hope he finds a perfect home too!

I have had huskies most of my life, but have always wanted one with Nikolai's coloring. He is gorgeous. It's really hard for me being in an apartment knowing that I couldn't properly care for a husky here. But I'm glad I found The Squad. I really miss mine, but it's comforting to see yours & kind of walk along with your adventures.
Thank you so much for following along our journey in life with the Squad. It’s been quite an adventure so far and it’s only going to get more interesting! Nikolai is still very young and needs tons of exercise before can relax at home. People have assumed that we have a huge backyard for our huskies, but we don’t. I’m sure you already know this having huskies, but as long as they get their daily exercise (e.g. minimum 7 - 10 mile hike, or 5 - 7 in snow, but ideally more), they will be calm and relaxed at home, usually near our feet ❤️☺️

Them dogs were bred to run miles and miles pulling a person they are athletes with never ended energy definitely he will love the outdoors and colder climate you guys are great

I have always wanted a husky for more than 15 years, like a husky or no dogs for me. I am a very outdoor person, thru-hiked PCT, always in the woods, or in the mountains. And thank goodness I live in the Bay area where the weather is always like spring/fall. But I waited until I can fully work remotely to get my pup. And I got her out from a very irresponsible owner, she is so much happier with us now.

I have a mixed dog pack of 5. Two of them are Huskies. The first was given to me when she was only 6 weeks old. She is the easiest puppy That I ever raised! She told me every time she needed to go out. She played with her toys and did not destroy my things. The 2nd one was a well trained adult. Who knew immediately that quietly attaching herself to me was the way to go!
Huskies are not difficult they are engaging wonderful dogs!

Nikolai is truly blessed to have you two as his guardians! I love that you are an advocate for dogs and talked about huskies not being right for everybody. I recently started a blog advocating adopting vs buying dogs. It's wonderful seeing other people doing the same thing!

It’s so crazy that I met Nikolai like two months ago when this channel really got me passionate about huskies .I’m in college and couldn’t have adopted him but he was so unique and definitely was such a big child. I’m so happy that it was you guys who adopted him.

The new addition to your family is lovely. He's a great fit. Well worth the effort. I was looking at our local husky rescue but all the dogs listed have aggression issues which I'm not able to handle in an older dog. I only know how to prevent it.
There are soooo many young huskies on petfinder.com, and so many that are a year old or less. Kimahri was also listed as having aggression issues, but all she needed was a lot of exercise, and being close to her pack, as most huskies do. Huskies really need someone experienced with high energy dogs. For those who don’t know how to handle and fix aggression issues, I would not recommend getting an advanced level dog, like a husky.

Great video and I love that you talked about getting the right breed for your life! My breed (Akitas) are a difficult breed as well and so many people get them as cute little puppies and then they get rid of them once they get big. Congratulations on the new addition ❤️ what a lucky pup!!
