(Part 1) Incredible high speed freight trains on the Union Pacific Sunset Route in Arizona!

  • I visited the Union Pacific Gila Subdivision in July of 2021 and captured a couple days worth of incredible action! The track speed is 70 MPH, and without any restriction or track work, these trains use every bit of it to transport goods with high efficiency! The temperature was around 105 degrees but didn't stop me from venturing into the desert heat for some footage.
Plus, with the speed of these trains, they bring LOTS of wind and ground shaking footage. A lot of the videos I got start with the camera moving since I'm zoomed in, and aside from moving back from the track on those shots, I decided to leave it as is. To me, it feels like I'm really there, up close and personal with the Union Pacific Railroad!
    Please enjoy the video!

    Welcome to Trains 5.9!
Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoy the video.
I generally film trains on the Union Pacific / BNSF Joint Line in Colorado, but I also travel farther south to catch trains on the BNSF Southern Transcon in Texas and Arizona, as well as the Union Pacific Sunset Route.
    Thanks again!

A great way to shift freight. I am amused by the US trains rated as fast, here in the UK the freight trains are running in between passenger traffic running at 125 mph so they have to get their skates on. Running speed is normally 75 mph and we even have parcel trains comprised of electric sets based on passenger trains running at 100mph. And taking a leaf out of North American railroads we are building longer and longer consists to shift stuff off the roads. Unlike the US and Canada freight runs under OLE and there is a push too extend the wires to ensure more move away from diesel to faster electric traction.
