The movie is based on the true story of Phyllis Penzo and Officer Robert Cunningham. For twenty-four years, Penzo served as a waitress at Sal's Pizzeria in Yonkers, New York. Cunningham, a thirty-year veteran of the police force in nearby Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., was a regular customer at the restaurant, well-liked by the staff there. (His favorite dish was linguine with clams.) One day in March, 1984, Cunningham asked Penzo for help picking his weekly lottery numbers. Penzo suggested three numbers, and Cunningham came up with three more numbers on his own. Cunningham jokingly promised that if he won, he would split the winnings with Penzo as a tip. The next day, to Penzo's surprise, Cunningham and his wife came to the diner with the winning lottery ticket in hand. Cunningham's ticket had won $6 million, which he split with Penzo, giving her $3 million. In real life, however (as stated in a disclaimer at the end of the movie), Cunningham and Penzo were both happily married to other people for many years.
I’m from Yonkers also, now in NC. I remember the story vaguely, but was a teenager at the time so didn’t pay attention to news much. Great story. I hope Sal’s is still there.
I've met Bridget Fonda. Just an absolutely outstanding woman. I was a kid, maybe 17 or 18 years old back then. She had actually put her arm through mine and walked with me through the casino where she just filmed a scene (I was a lowly extra). She talked to me about acting. Classes, drama lessons, speech lessons, that kind of thing.
I came face to face with her on Madison Avenue in NYC in 2005. We locked eyes and I suspect she was waiting for me to say "I recognize you!" or something but I just smiled and she smiled back and I was stunned at her beauty in real life. What's sad is that she's now very obese and a shadow of her former beauty. I'll never forget that moment though.

I'm a man and I'm not at all ashamed to admit that I love this film. Sometimes roms aren't so bad, and if they're great it's an added bonus, and "It Could Happen To You" is a great rom. Great story, full of heart, excellent performances, with all of it brought to a crescendo with a wonderful message about the importance of charity.
Never won the lottery, but the scene where they take the kids to the stadium did remind me of one good thing I was lucky enough to do. When Tony Gwynn's playing days were over he became the baseball coach at San Diego State University. As a promotional event he agreed to do a couple of hitting clinics for kids. I made sure to get as many kids there as I could. Tony offered each kid personal hitting tips. He was very patient with each child and showed each how to stand at the plate and hold the bat and worked with them on their swings. You never saw so many kids with big smiles on their faces and a memory they'll never forget!
Cassie, similar to what you described at the grocery store, a few years ago I was in the process of leaving a supermarket, walking down the aisle of checkouts having already paid for my shopping, and at one of the checkouts, there was a family, a mother and 2 or 3 kids. I could tell from the body language and the cashier, that something wasn't right. The cashier looked sad. The mother didn't speak English and the eldest son, about 12 or 13, was trying to resolve the situation. It was clear that they didn't have enough money. I asked the cashier how much they were short, it was only a few pounds. I handed over a £10 note, told them it was my gift, and to keep any change left over and left. I was emotional as I felt so sorry that anyone should be in a position that they have difficulty buying food for their family. I sometimes at a drive through, pay for a couple of the orders behind me at the same time as paying for my own order. It's so fun to see the reaction in the rear view mirror when they get to the payment window and realise what has happened. During Covid, it was a police car that was behind me and I did the same. Parked in the parking lot, they stopped briefly as they passed and thanked me saying that not many people would have done that. Such a simple gesture that really doesn't take any time and costs very little, can have a significant impact on other people. We should all do it when we can. Finally, for the last 4 or 5 years, about Xmas time, my friend and I have gone out for a meal, usually Xmas eve, or Boxing day, and tipped a waitress/server £100. Almost every time they have protested that it is too much but we've managed to convince them to accept. There are times in the past that I had next to nothing, and times I really struggled financially, almost losing everything, so I think it only right, being in a position that I can afford to pay it forward and help others, to do so when the opportunity presents itself. One of the things I have had in mind is to try to start a movement, or small community, to help others. Maybe this year will be when I put those ideas into fruition.
My friend Walter Valdez was an extra in this movie. He missed two days of school and we were all so jealous. Charlie's apartment was filmed 3 blocks from my elementary school in Woodside, Queens, NY.
Yesterday I was having a horrible day and embarrassed myself at the nail salon when I busted out crying for 40 min when the nail tech told me to relax because I looked stressed. I was about to pay when we were done but someone told me a woman had paid for me because she saw me crying and said I deserved it. It was so kind and I won’t ever forget it.
my bad day was when I fell dead at the hospital. I had heart failure when the nurse came to my room. I stood up to take the paperwork to be transferred to another hospital out of state and it stressed me so much I literally fell dead. Doctors brought me back after 6 minutes but I remained unconscious and was transferred by helicopter and had emergency open heart surgery then transferred to another hospital 400 more miles further from home. I remained unconscious for 2 months in the hospital. When I woke I couldn't speak I couldn't move I couldn't do anything. Really frustrating when you're trying to get help and you can't even do a thing to get anybody to notice. Eventually they gave me a piece of paper with abc's on it and I could move my finger to the letters and the numbers. I have only gained my speech back after 3 weeks and then I took another month to be able to use my arms and then 2 months to be able to walk again I still got surgeries ahead of me I got a hole in my esophagus from being incubated I've got scars all over me I've got nerve damage in right side of my head I can't feel my right foot can't feel my left chest can't feel my upper lip or my right ear. I owe $11,000 in medical debt my insurance paid One hospital 100,000 paid $50,000 to another hospital and paid, I think $53,000 and 83,000 to the helicopter flights. My life as I knew it is gone. That's my bad day.

I miss Bridget Fonda in movies. I know she’s happy in retirement, but she has such a magical screen presence. Also, Nic Cage has taken on so many odd projects over the past decade or so that it’s hard to remember that he has so much range as an actor as shown in this movie.
@@clarkbarrett6274 I'm just going to suggest that Danny Elfman isn't just a "pretty big name" as a composer, but one of the top 5 living composers, and one of two that are realistically household names after John Williams. Like there are a lot of composers who's names I'd recognize, but only those two who I could just name off the top of my head. Also while obviously talented, I always got the feeling like Fonda was in the industry because of her name not because she really enjoyed it. I as well miss her nuanced performances and wish she'd done more, but she's been married for 20 years now and I'm more glad she's found a happy life.
@@SeanBlader I'd argue Elfman is near the top of the second tier of composers. Above him are Williams, Hans Zimmer, Howard Shore, James Horner, Alan Silvestri and Trevor Jones. And I just rattled those off my head. Elfman has his niche and I love The Next Three Days, but he's not a household name for most people.
Really? Magical? She's nothing special. Her "breakthrough" flick Single white female was just boring thanks to her bland pointless screen presence (and the dude, forget the actor's name). Jennifer Jason Leigh played a much better character to show serious acting chops.
Here is a tid bit that no one else will mention. The red headed lawyer of Nick Cage was the actor, Red Buttons, who was a comedian in the 50s. His role in Sayonara was a dramatic departure from his previous work. In this film, co-starring with Marlon Brando, he played Joe Kelly, an American airman stationed in Kobe, Japan, during the Korean War, who marries Katsumi, a Japanese woman (played by Miyoshi Umeki), but he is barred from taking her back to the US. His moving portrayal of Kelly's calm resolve not to abandon the relationship, and the touching reassurance of Katsumi, impressed audiences and critics alike. Buttons won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and Umeki won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for the film. You will thank me if you watch that movie. Marlon Brando is stunning. It will be a favorite if you give it a chance.
My grandma loved this movie, she watched it all the time along with The Truth About Cats and Dogs(which I recommend if Cassie hasn’t seen it, good one for Carly too)
Cassie, your story at the end is a great example of not only helping someone in need, but how we never know who or how we may help someone else, influence them with something we may do or say. I'm so glad that man came up to you and shared that, it shows what the ripple effect can be. Oh, I absolutely love this movie. I remember seeing it with my family while I was in junior high. I loved it so much, I bought a VHS tape at the Sun Coast video store at the mall where I grew up. I must have watched it 50 times over the years. I wish more movies like this were made today.
Back in the 1960's, Jiffy Pop popcorn was a thing. An aluminum pan with popcorn, covered with aluminum foil. You heated it on the stove and the popcorn popped. Kind of the predecessor of microwave popcorn.

This movie is another example of Caleb Deschanel's magnificent cinematography. Pay attention to the framing and lighting of the shots, because he sure did. I'm told this is blasphemy, but ... When God said, "Let there be light.", the soul that would be Caleb Dechanel said, "Thanks, I'll take it from here."

Bridget Fonda is a good actress. She chose to retire from acting several years ago. She has been married to composer Danny Elfman for many years now. He started his career with the 80s pop band Oingo Biongo (Weird Science theme). He currently a successful music composer and has scored films such as; Beetlejuice (1987), Batman (1989), and Men in Black (1998) to name a few.👍🏼
The popcorn that Charlie and Muriel were eating is Jiffy Pop. It’s prepackaged in an aluminum pan and topped with aluminum foil that expands as the corn pops. You can pop it right on the stove or over a fire. It’s not the greatest but it is cheap.
Bridget Fonda was HUGE in the 90s. She was in everything from thrillers to comedies to dramas to action flicks. She just sort of decided around 2000 to retire more or less. Look up her IMBD and you will see she was in tons of movies, and most were pretty great

That’s Bridget Fonda (“Point of No Return”, “Single White Female,” “Kiss of the Dragon”) - she’s one of *those* Fondas. Her grandfather was Henry, her aunt is Jane and her father is Peter. She’s married to Danny Elfman, who does most of the music for Tim Burton’s movies. Cameo trivia: the protester who threw paint on Muriel’s fur coat is Emily Deschanel.
Another great Bridget Fonda movie is singles. A romcom set in Seattle and takes place in part in the music industry and has a lot of members of the grunge movement like Layne Staley, Chris Cornell, & Eddie Vedder.

Nicolas Cage was in a wide range of movies back in the 90s-00s. From crime dramas like “Kiss of Death”, awesome action movies like “The Rock” and rom-coms like this. Another really, really good movie of his is “The Family Man”. It’s kind of a holiday movie but good to watch all year. I guarantee you 2 would like it.

OMG! You two are so fun to watch! Also, Cassie, that was such a heartwarming story! Let's face it, there is no choice. You give the money as promised. This movie, by the way, is one of those movies you watch whenever it comes on because it does make you feel hope for humanity in some way. Like when Damar Hamlin collapsed during an NFL game (he was an American Football Player) folks donated to his charity! It was amazing! Nicolas Cage started out being a romantic lead, starring in Moonstruck, Valley Girl, and this one. He only later went on to do action and became the "actor" that he is today. I always felt Valley Girl was worth the watch, though some things in that movie did not age well... Bridgette Fonda was the grand daughter of Henry Fonda of 12 Angry Men fame. Bridget Fonda married Danny Elfman, and retired from acting (2003) to raise kids. Danny Elfman is the guy that does the music for the Simpsons and almost anything Tim Burton. I remember LOVING this movie when it came out. I was in 4th or 5th grade and just starting to get into the idea of romance movies. This reaction made me nostalgic 😂 I concur with Cassie that I'd do a daily or weekly massage if I ever won the lotto. I'd hire a housecleaner once a month and maybe a caterer once every few months, just for fun. I'd also invest it for my kids' and my nieces' college fund, get my parents and in laws to live comfortably in retirement, help my brother buy a house, and invest a lot in stock or something. I'd also travel a lot more and make some sizable donations to charities that my husband and I volunteer with. I'd finish our basement and maybe renovate our kitchen. I don't think I'd really buy much "stuff"... We have more than we need already. I would definitely focus more on experiences. Also I loved your story about the grocery store. I have a similar experience where I bought a meal at McDonalds for a homeless person. As we stood in line, I chatted with her a bit about her life, and she asked me about mine. When we got our food, we went our separate ways. I was an RA at my college at the time and one of my residents was with me (it was one of those dorm-organized outings). She later told me that she had never seen someone talk to a homeless person just as a person before.

Bridget Fonda was great in the 90’s. You should check out Single White Female, Point of No Return, and Singles for some of her most iconic performances. Singles especially I think you would like. It’s like an ensemble comedy during the Grunge era about different relationships among a small apartment complex where everybody knows everybody else.
@@JohnnyGingy Singles is just one of those movies I try to watch once a year because it’s brand of charm is still refreshing every time you watch after a short hiatus. The dynamic between Fonda and Dillon are especially hilarious.

@@PopcornInBed I know this was it was basically based on real life story but I respectfully prefer the the movie version because the good people got a happy ending and $600k lump of sum of cash and the bad people like his ex-wife got robbed and lost the entire $4 million dollars and ended up broke and destituted and ended up living with her mother and back to when she was before working in a salon in the Bronx and the ex-husband of his new wife ended up working in a taxi cab I guess because he was that good of a actor I just hope she didn't have to use all of the entire $600k I hope they got half of the money 🤑💰
I loved your Grocery store story.... back I supposed 15 years ago I was in line at our local store (Deli for lunch) and I had my chicken dinner and bag of Nestles treasures.... (I miss them)... well the line was moving slow and so I opened the bag of Nestle Treasures and I tapped the lady in front of me (she was at the till waiting for them to get something) and offered one to her...she looked at me and literally lunged at me, wrapped her arms around me and give me the biggest hug I have ever had and just started sobbing... all I could do is hold her....after about 30 seconds, she let go and said that is the nicest thing anybody as ever done for me... I just said your welcome, and by that time they had her items and she thanked me again, and went on her way... I have no idea what she had going on... but that was a wake up call to not prejudge any act of kindness...even the small ones.... in short, be kind.... you never know the impact....

There’s a great romantic comedy from around this time that everyone ignores: IQ starring Meg Ryan, Tim Robbins and Walter Matthau. It’s about Albert Einstein playing matchmaker for his niece. It’s one of those movies where TH-cam edits for content won’t be necessary, but it’s really underrated. The early 90s were the best era for chick flicks. My Girl is another excellent one.
Truly crazy that IQ is on free movies; even crazier that I forgot it ever existed. SO fun. But My Girl? I think these two would have a nervous breakdown over that one.
This has always been a personal favorite of mine. It's very Frank Capra-esque, and had it been done in the 1930s or 1940s, Nicholas Cage's character would certainly have been played by Jimmy Stewart, and Bridgett Fonda's character would have been played by Marjorie Reynolds, Claudette Colbert, or Donna Reed. I love Bridgett Fonda. She had a short, but memorable career. This movie, Single White Female, Point of No Return, Jackie Brown, A Simple Plan, are some of my favorites with her.
Bridget Fonda has been in quite a few movies. Some of the ones I especially like are A Simple Plan, Jackie Brown, Lake Placid, and Little Buddha. Each one of these is very different from the others but all very good.
I love the wrap up story Cassie told. It reminds me of when I was early in recovery for alcoholism, another fellow told a similar story (which it isn't my place to repeat) but the point was "be the version of recovery you want the world to see." I never used to give a darn what the world saw of me. The point is, it's not just recovery, it's whatever you want more of in the world, be more of it yourself. If you want more tolerance, don't just assume that makes you tolerant, but actively practice it. If you want more generosity, be more generous. Great message, fun movie, great reaction as always.

This is one of those movies I remember seeing the trailer to and wanting to see but never got around to it. Thanks for your reaction. Even though Rosie Perez's character is easy to hate this just makes you realize how good of an actress she is. If you want to see a movie where you will empathize with her please watch "Fearless" from 1993. What she goes through in the movie will definitely strike a chord with you.
Another great under stated romantic film is Return to Me, Minnie Driver and David Duchovny joined by a great cast of Veteran Actors. Highly recommended

Some of my early faves of Nick Cage is #1 Mooooooonstruck! (of course ^_^) and also Honeymoon in Vegas, Peggy Sue Got Married, Raising Arizona (more of a cult classic) It's said that things like money, drugs, alcohol are personality amplifiers. They don't necessarily "change" you (unless perhaps you develop an addiction problem), they just let your real self come out magnified like 1,000%
I have bin a mechanic all life. I'm retired now but I have done free work on people's cars a lot. It does my heart good to help people that need help. Bin screwed a couple of times but, all in all it's feels good to help. Love 💕 you girls. Watch you all the time.
So much to love here. It's a great movie, and I absolutely adore Bridget Fonda. Your conversation at the end was the perfect way to follow it. Both combine "do good recklessly" and a line I just heard this weekend in a Frank Tedesco video: "Always try to be the nicest person in someone's day." Kindness is never the wrong course of action 💞
If you're having a bad time, it's mostly impossible to not feel a better after watching this movie. I've watched this several times already and always love it. Another really sweet heart felt movie that I know both of you would really love also came out in the mid 90's like this film did. "The Lake House" starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock. I remember you reacted to "Somewhere in Time" awhile back, and this movie has a few similarities to that one. Hope you can react to that one day. Wonderful story at the end Cassie. The black man narrating the story and being an undercover newspaper reporter is Isaac Hayes a popular soul singer from the sixties/seventies. His most famous song was "Shaft", a theme song from the movie of the same title. His second album of soul music was "Hot Buttered Soul". One of the tracks is a 12 minute version of the song "Walk on By"; another is a 19 minute version of "By the Time I Get to Phoenix". Set aside 30 minutes with your sister and listen to these two songs. You won't be wasting a minute.

The movie is based on the true story of Phyllis Penzo and Officer Robert Cunningham. For twenty-four years, Penzo served as a waitress at Sal's Pizzeria in Yonkers, New York. Cunningham, a thirty-year veteran of the police force in nearby Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., was a regular customer at the restaurant, well-liked by the staff there. (His favorite dish was linguine with clams.) One day in March, 1984, Cunningham asked Penzo for help picking his weekly lottery numbers. Penzo suggested three numbers, and Cunningham came up with three more numbers on his own. Cunningham jokingly promised that if he won, he would split the winnings with Penzo as a tip. The next day, to Penzo's surprise, Cunningham and his wife came to the diner with the winning lottery ticket in hand. Cunningham's ticket had won $6 million, which he split with Penzo, giving her $3 million. In real life, however (as stated in a disclaimer at the end of the movie), Cunningham and Penzo were both happily married to other people for many years.

I've met Bridget Fonda. Just an absolutely outstanding woman. I was a kid, maybe 17 or 18 years old back then. She had actually put her arm through mine and walked with me through the casino where she just filmed a scene (I was a lowly extra). She talked to me about acting. Classes, drama lessons, speech lessons, that kind of thing.

I came face to face with her on Madison Avenue in NYC in 2005. We locked eyes and I suspect she was waiting for me to say "I recognize you!" or something but I just smiled and she smiled back and I was stunned at her beauty in real life. What's sad is that she's now very obese and a shadow of her former beauty. I'll never forget that moment though.

I'm a man and I'm not at all ashamed to admit that I love this film. Sometimes roms aren't so bad, and if they're great it's an added bonus, and "It Could Happen To You" is a great rom. Great story, full of heart, excellent performances, with all of it brought to a crescendo with a wonderful message about the importance of charity.
Never won the lottery, but the scene where they take the kids to the stadium did remind me of one good thing I was lucky enough to do. When Tony Gwynn's playing days were over he became the baseball coach at San Diego State University. As a promotional event he agreed to do a couple of hitting clinics for kids. I made sure to get as many kids there as I could. Tony offered each kid personal hitting tips. He was very patient with each child and showed each how to stand at the plate and hold the bat and worked with them on their swings. You never saw so many kids with big smiles on their faces and a memory they'll never forget!
Cassie, similar to what you described at the grocery store, a few years ago I was in the process of leaving a supermarket, walking down the aisle of checkouts having already paid for my shopping, and at one of the checkouts, there was a family, a mother and 2 or 3 kids. I could tell from the body language and the cashier, that something wasn't right. The cashier looked sad. The mother didn't speak English and the eldest son, about 12 or 13, was trying to resolve the situation. It was clear that they didn't have enough money. I asked the cashier how much they were short, it was only a few pounds. I handed over a £10 note, told them it was my gift, and to keep any change left over and left.
I was emotional as I felt so sorry that anyone should be in a position that they have difficulty buying food for their family.
I sometimes at a drive through, pay for a couple of the orders behind me at the same time as paying for my own order. It's so fun to see the reaction in the rear view mirror when they get to the payment window and realise what has happened. During Covid, it was a police car that was behind me and I did the same. Parked in the parking lot, they stopped briefly as they passed and thanked me saying that not many people would have done that. Such a simple gesture that really doesn't take any time and costs very little, can have a significant impact on other people. We should all do it when we can.
Finally, for the last 4 or 5 years, about Xmas time, my friend and I have gone out for a meal, usually Xmas eve, or Boxing day, and tipped a waitress/server £100. Almost every time they have protested that it is too much but we've managed to convince them to accept.
There are times in the past that I had next to nothing, and times I really struggled financially, almost losing everything, so I think it only right, being in a position that I can afford to pay it forward and help others, to do so when the opportunity presents itself.
One of the things I have had in mind is to try to start a movement, or small community, to help others. Maybe this year will be when I put those ideas into fruition.
My friend Walter Valdez was an extra in this movie. He missed two days of school and we were all so jealous. Charlie's apartment was filmed 3 blocks from my elementary school in Woodside, Queens, NY.

Yesterday I was having a horrible day and embarrassed myself at the nail salon when I busted out crying for 40 min when the nail tech told me to relax because I looked stressed. I was about to pay when we were done but someone told me a woman had paid for me because she saw me crying and said I deserved it. It was so kind and I won’t ever forget it.
Wow…that’s so sweet. I love that someone thought to do that! I’m going to have to remember that next time I go, perfect pay it forward ☺️

my bad day was when I fell dead at the hospital. I had heart failure when the nurse came to my room. I stood up to take the paperwork to be transferred to another hospital out of state and it stressed me so much I literally fell dead. Doctors brought me back after 6 minutes but I remained unconscious and was transferred by helicopter and had emergency open heart surgery then transferred to another hospital 400 more miles further from home. I remained unconscious for 2 months in the hospital. When I woke I couldn't speak I couldn't move I couldn't do anything. Really frustrating when you're trying to get help and you can't even do a thing to get anybody to notice. Eventually they gave me a piece of paper with abc's on it and I could move my finger to the letters and the numbers. I have only gained my speech back after 3 weeks and then I took another month to be able to use my arms and then 2 months to be able to walk again I still got surgeries ahead of me I got a hole in my esophagus from being incubated I've got scars all over me I've got nerve damage in right side of my head I can't feel my right foot can't feel my left chest can't feel my upper lip or my right ear. I owe $11,000 in medical debt my insurance paid One hospital 100,000 paid $50,000 to another hospital and paid, I think $53,000 and 83,000 to the helicopter flights. My life as I knew it is gone. That's my bad day.

As a person who has had some kindness shown to me in the checkout line I say thank you. It’s a whole bunch of emotions but you are happy to know people like that exist in the world.
I miss Bridget Fonda in movies. I know she’s happy in retirement, but she has such a magical screen presence. Also, Nic Cage has taken on so many odd projects over the past decade or so that it’s hard to remember that he has so much range as an actor as shown in this movie.
IIRC she's married to Danny Elfman, formerly of Oingo Boingo and now a pretty big name in film score composing.
@@clarkbarrett6274 I'm just going to suggest that Danny Elfman isn't just a "pretty big name" as a composer, but one of the top 5 living composers, and one of two that are realistically household names after John Williams. Like there are a lot of composers who's names I'd recognize, but only those two who I could just name off the top of my head.
Also while obviously talented, I always got the feeling like Fonda was in the industry because of her name not because she really enjoyed it. I as well miss her nuanced performances and wish she'd done more, but she's been married for 20 years now and I'm more glad she's found a happy life.

Really? Magical? She's nothing special. Her "breakthrough" flick Single white female was just boring thanks to her bland pointless screen presence (and the dude, forget the actor's name). Jennifer Jason Leigh played a much better character to show serious acting chops.

Here is a tid bit that no one else will mention. The red headed lawyer of Nick Cage was the actor, Red Buttons, who was a comedian in the 50s.
His role in Sayonara was a dramatic departure from his previous work. In this film, co-starring with Marlon Brando, he played Joe Kelly, an American airman stationed in Kobe, Japan, during the Korean War, who marries Katsumi, a Japanese woman (played by Miyoshi Umeki), but he is barred from taking her back to the US. His moving portrayal of Kelly's calm resolve not to abandon the relationship, and the touching reassurance of Katsumi, impressed audiences and critics alike. Buttons won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and Umeki won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for the film.
You will thank me if you watch that movie. Marlon Brando is stunning. It will be a favorite if you give it a chance.

Cassie, your story at the end is a great example of not only helping someone in need, but how we never know who or how we may help someone else, influence them with something we may do or say. I'm so glad that man came up to you and shared that, it shows what the ripple effect can be. I have always thought there should be and maybe there is a movie category called 'Feel Good movies' that is what this one is. :)
Oh, I absolutely love this movie. I remember seeing it with my family while I was in junior high. I loved it so much, I bought a VHS tape at the Sun Coast video store at the mall where I grew up. I must have watched it 50 times over the years. I wish more movies like this were made today.
Back in the 1960's, Jiffy Pop popcorn was a thing. An aluminum pan with popcorn, covered with aluminum foil. You heated it on the stove and the popcorn popped. Kind of the predecessor of microwave popcorn.

Bridget Fonda is a good actress. She chose to retire from acting several years ago. She has been married to composer Danny Elfman for many years now. He started his career with the 80s pop band Oingo Biongo (Weird Science theme). He currently a successful music composer and has scored films such as; Beetlejuice (1987), Batman (1989), and Men in Black (1998) to name a few.👍🏼
The popcorn that Charlie and Muriel were eating is Jiffy Pop. It’s prepackaged in an aluminum pan and topped with aluminum foil that expands as the corn pops. You can pop it right on the stove or over a fire. It’s not the greatest but it is cheap.
Bridget Fonda was HUGE in the 90s. She was in everything from thrillers to comedies to dramas to action flicks. She just sort of decided around 2000 to retire more or less. Look up her IMBD and you will see she was in tons of movies, and most were pretty great

Another great Bridget Fonda movie is singles. A romcom set in Seattle and takes place in part in the music industry and has a lot of members of the grunge movement like Layne Staley, Chris Cornell, & Eddie Vedder.

Nicolas Cage was in a wide range of movies back in the 90s-00s. From crime dramas like “Kiss of Death”, awesome action movies like “The Rock” and rom-coms like this. Another really, really good movie of his is “The Family Man”. It’s kind of a holiday movie but good to watch all year. I guarantee you 2 would like it.
He got in trouble with the IRS and pretty much took every role he was offered so he could pay back his taxes and penalties.

This is the movie that made me fall in absolute love with Rosie Perez. I know the character she plays here, but I just love the actress because of this film.
She was incredible in "Fearless" with Jeff Bridges. Just thinking about her character gets me emotional. Everyone should see that movie.
The German title of this movie is "2 Millionen Dollar Trinkgeld" - means "2 Million Dollar tip". A wonderful movie from the early 90's.❤

OMG! You two are so fun to watch! Also, Cassie, that was such a heartwarming story! Let's face it, there is no choice. You give the money as promised. This movie, by the way, is one of those movies you watch whenever it comes on because it does make you feel hope for humanity in some way. Like when Damar Hamlin collapsed during an NFL game (he was an American Football Player) folks donated to his charity! It was amazing! Nicolas Cage started out being a romantic lead, starring in Moonstruck, Valley Girl, and this one. He only later went on to do action and became the "actor" that he is today. I always felt Valley Girl was worth the watch, though some things in that movie did not age well... Bridgette Fonda was the grand daughter of Henry Fonda of 12 Angry Men fame. Bridget Fonda married Danny Elfman, and retired from acting (2003) to raise kids. Danny Elfman is the guy that does the music for the Simpsons and almost anything Tim Burton. Great movie and just the perfect reactions! Thanks you two!!

I remember LOVING this movie when it came out. I was in 4th or 5th grade and just starting to get into the idea of romance movies. This reaction made me nostalgic 😂
I concur with Cassie that I'd do a daily or weekly massage if I ever won the lotto. I'd hire a housecleaner once a month and maybe a caterer once every few months, just for fun. I'd also invest it for my kids' and my nieces' college fund, get my parents and in laws to live comfortably in retirement, help my brother buy a house, and invest a lot in stock or something. I'd also travel a lot more and make some sizable donations to charities that my husband and I volunteer with. I'd finish our basement and maybe renovate our kitchen. I don't think I'd really buy much "stuff"... We have more than we need already. I would definitely focus more on experiences.
Also I loved your story about the grocery store. I have a similar experience where I bought a meal at McDonalds for a homeless person. As we stood in line, I chatted with her a bit about her life, and she asked me about mine. When we got our food, we went our separate ways. I was an RA at my college at the time and one of my residents was with me (it was one of those dorm-organized outings). She later told me that she had never seen someone talk to a homeless person just as a person before.

Singles especially I think you would like. It’s like an ensemble comedy during the Grunge era about different relationships among a small apartment complex where everybody knows everybody else.

@@PopcornInBed I know this was it was basically based on real life story but I respectfully prefer the the movie version because the good people got a happy ending and $600k lump of sum of cash and the bad people like his ex-wife got robbed and lost the entire $4 million dollars and ended up broke and destituted and ended up living with her mother and back to when she was before working in a salon in the Bronx and the ex-husband of his new wife ended up working in a taxi cab I guess because he was that good of a actor I just hope she didn't have to use all of the entire $600k I hope they got half of the money 🤑💰
I loved your Grocery store story.... back I supposed 15 years ago I was in line at our local store (Deli for lunch) and I had my chicken dinner and bag of Nestles treasures.... (I miss them)... well the line was moving slow and so I opened the bag of Nestle Treasures and I tapped the lady in front of me (she was at the till waiting for them to get something) and offered one to her...she looked at me and literally lunged at me, wrapped her arms around me and give me the biggest hug I have ever had and just started sobbing... all I could do is hold her....after about 30 seconds, she let go and said that is the nicest thing anybody as ever done for me... I just said your welcome, and by that time they had her items and she thanked me again, and went on her way... I have no idea what she had going on... but that was a wake up call to not prejudge any act of kindness...even the small ones.... in short, be kind.... you never know the impact....

Jackie Brown - classic performance
There’s a great romantic comedy from around this time that everyone ignores: IQ starring Meg Ryan, Tim Robbins and Walter Matthau. It’s about Albert Einstein playing matchmaker for his niece. It’s one of those movies where TH-cam edits for content won’t be necessary, but it’s really underrated. The early 90s were the best era for chick flicks. My Girl is another excellent one.

This has always been a personal favorite of mine. It's very Frank Capra-esque, and had it been done in the 1930s or 1940s, Nicholas Cage's character would certainly have been played by Jimmy Stewart, and Bridgett Fonda's character would have been played by Marjorie Reynolds, Claudette Colbert, or Donna Reed.
I love Bridgett Fonda. She had a short, but memorable career. This movie, Single White Female, Point of No Return, Jackie Brown, A Simple Plan, are some of my favorites with her.
Bridget Fonda has been in quite a few movies. Some of the ones I especially like are A Simple Plan, Jackie Brown, Lake Placid, and Little Buddha. Each one of these is very different from the others but all very good.
I love the wrap up story Cassie told. It reminds me of when I was early in recovery for alcoholism, another fellow told a similar story (which it isn't my place to repeat) but the point was "be the version of recovery you want the world to see." I never used to give a darn what the world saw of me. The point is, it's not just recovery, it's whatever you want more of in the world, be more of it yourself. If you want more tolerance, don't just assume that makes you tolerant, but actively practice it. If you want more generosity, be more generous. Great message, fun movie, great reaction as always.
Also know as "The Golden Rule." Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
@@mikehigbee2320 But the Golden Rule is more survival strategy than moral guideline. Much like what the OP wrote. There should be no reciprocity necessary for true tolerance or generosity. If you're doing it to spare yourself grief, it's *just* self-preservation.

This is one of those movies I remember seeing the trailer to and wanting to see but never got around to it. Thanks for your reaction. Even though Rosie Perez's character is easy to hate this just makes you realize how good of an actress she is. If you want to see a movie where you will empathize with her please watch "Fearless" from 1993. What she goes through in the movie will definitely strike a chord with you.
Another great under stated romantic film is Return to Me, Minnie Driver and David Duchovny joined by a great cast of Veteran Actors. Highly recommended
That's a good one. Maybe just a little cheesy, but Minnie Driver is a delight.
"How did they make this popcorn?" That is Jiffy Pop. It was like a pie tin with a spiraled, collapsed, foil top, containing popcorn and oil. Cooked on the stove, as the popcorn popped, the foil expanded to accomodate.
The diner she worked in was filmed in a lot across from the Firehouse where they filmed Ghostbusters. It’s still a working firehouse today.
Some of my early faves of Nick Cage is #1 Mooooooonstruck! (of course ^_^) and also Honeymoon in Vegas, Peggy Sue Got Married, Raising Arizona (more of a cult classic)
It's said that things like money, drugs, alcohol are personality amplifiers. They don't necessarily "change" you (unless perhaps you develop an addiction problem), they just let your real self come out magnified like 1,000%

So much to love here. It's a great movie, and I absolutely adore Bridget Fonda. Your conversation at the end was the perfect way to follow it. Both combine "do good recklessly" and a line I just heard this weekend in a Frank Tedesco video: "Always try to be the nicest person in someone's day." Kindness is never the wrong course of action 💞
If you're having a bad time, it's mostly impossible to not feel a better after watching this movie. I've watched this several times already and always love it. Another really sweet heart felt movie that I know both of you would really love also came out in the mid 90's like this film did. "The Lake House" starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock. I remember you reacted to "Somewhere in Time" awhile back, and this movie has a few similarities to that one. Hope you can react to that one day. Wonderful story at the end Cassie. We all should try to be willing and ready for the opportunities to make someone else's day a little better. Thank you both for this great movie reaction and all the others you have done also.

I was delighted when I saw you were reacting to this. The movie that Carly was thinking of that has "Moon" in it is "Moonstruck" A fabulous ROMCOM with Cher. and Nicholas Cage.
The black man narrating the story and being an undercover newspaper reporter is Isaac Hayes a popular soul singer from the sixties/seventies. His most famous song was "Shaft", a theme song from the movie of the same title. His second album of soul music was "Hot Buttered Soul". One of the tracks is a 12 minute version of the song "Walk on By"; another is a 19 minute version of "By the Time I Get to Phoenix". Set aside 30 minutes with your sister and listen to these two songs. You won't be wasting a minute.
