  • Chevrolet’s new Camaro LT1 offers over 450 horsepower for less than $35K
    Shop for the new 2020 Chevrolet Camaro on CarGurus: cargur.us/yN6nt
    There are four ways to tell that a 2020 Chevrolet Camaro LT1 is not to be trifled with. The hood vents signal the presence of a 455-horsepower V8, as does the rumble emanating from the dual exhaust system. Brembo front brake calipers are another sign, as are the LT1 badges on each front fender. Otherwise, it looks like a car you’d rent during a honeymoon trip to Hawaii-minus the convertible top.
    This approach appeals to the introvert in me. I like to go fast and have fun, but I hate advertising it. My test car’s Satin Steel Gray paint, plain gray cloth seats, and sparkly silver rather than gray or black 20-inch wheels represent visual perfection in my book. No speedy Camaro about to break several traffic laws over here, officer.
    So here’s the deal with the Camaro LT1. Chevy takes a Camaro 1LT (not confusing at all) and bolts in a 6.2-liter V8 making 455 hp and 455 pound-feet of torque. Then it adds a limited-slip rear differential, 4-piston Brembo front brakes, a performance-tuned suspension, and a set of 20-inch wheels. The end result is a car that can get to 60 mph in about 4 seconds and scream down the quarter-mile in about 12.5 seconds.
    The beauty of any modern Camaro, though, is the car’s basis on General Motors’ Alpha platform. Engineered to serve beneath the Cadillac ATS and CTS, luxury sport sedans charged with taking on Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz, the Alpha platform’s inherent dynamism transforms the Camaro into something more than a traditional American muscle car. And that means it can tackle a twisty road just as capably as it can accelerate in a straight line.

    This isn't a "sleeper," it looks fast and is fast whereas a sleeper doesn't look fast but is fast.

      Yeah I was about to comment in the comment section about this but yours fits this is just not a sleeper especially with the name Camaro behind it XD

    • @Magowin
      @Magowin 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah my Audi S5 is a sleeper especially now that it's Stage 2 with 460hp although it's not considered affordable for a new one however mine used was 24k and is a convertible and I probably put in about 3k to make it stage 2 so essentially it is still cheaper than this Camaro.

    • @al151
      @al151 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Magowin any Audi with an S badge is also not a sleeper. They come with supercharged engines. If it was an A4 with a Stage 2-3 APR then it would have been considered a sleeper.

    • @Magowin
      @Magowin 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      al The term sleeper is something that looks like a normal everyday car that one wouldn’t think it is fast by looking at it. There is virtually no visual difference between the A & S badge Audi’s besides the badge itself the RS badge Audi’s are where visually the body is wider. If one were to take the S badge off no one would know it’s an S. You can’t take any badge off of a Camaro it still looks like a Camaro therefore it’s not considered a sleeper. Another example of this is a Ford Taurus SHO that too was a sleeper it looked like any other Taurus visually except for what was under the hood & chassis.

    Ford guy here, and I'm digging the LT1. I actually prefer the frontend of this over the SS. Still think the ZL1 is the best looking, and probably the best performance bargain in the world.

      @Wes Foulds I have as well, but that's because I drive mostly Fords. Most of the issues I've had were my fault though, like not doing routine maintenance and simply driving them too hard. The most miles I've ever got out of a vehicle were in a Ford, 2004 Econoline, 797,000 miles and the motor is still in amazing condition. That being said, I'm still getting a Camaro.

    You can add a little more aggressive appearance to the LT1, If you want to take out some of the "sleeper " by adding the RS option along with Redline addition. Redline adds black wheels along with those red accents, and spoiler will be black. RS will give you those nice clear but smoked tail lights. Add red paint to those front Brembo breaks. And make sure to have the Duel mode exhaust. It will Also look just like my LT1 (2021). Thats what I have, same color as this LT1 in video. But I have an 8" display screen. technology package

      To all be muscle cars cuz they LOOK like one...

      A muscle car is supposed to be based on mundane cars and retain the mundane version's utility. Charger 392 is a perfect example. Doesn't really apply to Camaro or Mustang though.
      _Not to be confused with_ American muscle, which just means that it's powered by an awesome V-8 (and it's American branded) which absolutely does apply to all these cars.

    Could this car handle a supercharger like an SS?

    • @JuggyGales1977
      @JuggyGales1977 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The powertrain is identical to an SS. The suspension is identical. The only difference is the rear tires are 1" narrower and the rear brakes aren't quite as good. The front brakes are the same. So, yes.

    Given the IIHS crash test scores for the Challenger, I'm not so sure this is necessarily right for a family. And given its "mediocre" rated structure, it's no wonder there's no drop top Challenger!

    Chris, you didn't mention one of the biggest advantages of the Camaro. You can drive it with blinders on (like a racehorse). Given the visibility provided by the stock Camaro the blinders won't limit your visibility anymore than usual.

    Sleepers are sedans or hatches that are plain Jane looking like a S3, Golf R , coupes do not make good sleepers especially a Camaro or Mustang

    Instead of them giving it an entirely new name, why didn't the just split the Rally Sport into two different versions : The *RS-6* (V-6) and the *RS-8* (V-8) .

    Somebody who drives this car should not need all that safety crap. If you do need that safety crap buy a car that isn't a performance car, like a Nissan Rogue, that is the perfect car for somebody like that and that's the type of car they deserve to drive.

      Steven D That’s one of the only downsides to the LT1 as opposed to the SS. In the SS, you get a staggered wheel setup with 245s in the front and 275s in the rear; the LT1 has 245s all around. I imagine that must hamper the car’s ability to put down the power, at least to an extent

    No, this car isn't as luxurious or as meticulously built as a Benz or a BMW. It doesn't cost like one either. The suspension and drivetrain is where GM chose to spend the money.

      I leased a 2020 LT1 for $460/mo. sign and drive 15k miles/year. Same cost of ownership as a crappy used car. Finance 101, when you have depreciating asset like a car, LEASE it. Unfortunately what most people do is put a few thousand down and finance it for 72 months with a $700/month payment. When it is paid off it is only worth $10,000 bucks and needs repairs and maintenance. When I'm done in 3 years I drop it off and walk away.
