A big part of horror games is the enemy AI eventually de-aggroing and having that moment of “did I get away??”.
If the enemies are always on your ass then they immediately lose that

For me one of the biggest examples of wasted potential in this game is the lightbulbs. This couldve been a game where your only method of defense would come at the cost of some of your visibility,as the game progresses, you'd slowly but surely lose light until you're surrounded by darkness, which could be terrifying if it was utilized properly

i'm a carousel operator and i worked a party recently where the birthday girl was running around in a puffy pink dress with a zookeeper plushie in her arms. she was so attached to that thang. it took so much self control for us to keep it together around her because the image was so funny and ridiculous. shoutout to zoonomaly birthday girl i hope you grow up to make your own horror games

funniest thing about the cloning zookeeper is that there is no reason why he would be spawned in a what that allows that to happen, like legit hes a persistant threat that follows you wherever you go that should be a singular object thats sometimes teleported around when needed not a prefab to be spawned in
The only reason I could think is that the game literally spawns in new entities every time, but the code is broken and doesn't despawn the zookeeper, so it just spawns in multiple.

I barely knew this was a game. When the models started getting spammed on the Gmod workshop, I assumed they were just another subset of awful Poppy Playtime, garten of banban, etc, fan models. It's not any better than I expected of course, but it's amazing that it was a genuine thing.

A little detail I like in the game is how the light from your gun makes it look like the monsters have pupils the closer they get to you.

The most i seen of Lanky Box is them reacting to Jim's Computer's Ending and freaking the fuck out trying to figure out how to spin it so it's kid friendly.

I think that the Lightbulbs acting as ammo is really clever. Removing lights for ammo, making seeing the enemies harder is very cool. In a better game, it could be stellar game design. I hope the Dev improves and and makes something with this mechanic again, or someone makes their own remake, like Unique Geese's Ban Ban remake.

Look, i gotta tell you something, this might be hard to hear. Yes
not having guys jumpscare you while in the safezone is as easy as setting a bool when youre in a safezone and making sure the jumscares are done after that check, the text that shows up when in the safezone shows that the first bit is already in the game and the fact that the camera isnt choppy as shit shows knowledge of update order, this is comically easy to fix and would be picked up instantly in testing.
I feel that is actually already in place, but the problem might be the range of the enemy's jumpscare exceeding the safe zone before the player reached it, as I saw from one clip in the video.
...Though when he died after respawning in the safe zone kind of confused me, but I think the "being safe" variable wasn't saved alongside, so he had to respawn until the player character retriggered a trigger it was inside.

@@MartinSinto123 Code logic and things, they're basically saying that getting jumpscared in the safe zone could be prevented by checking if the player is in a safe zone or not, and that there's already a system in place to even check that they are inside the safe zone based on the text showing up whilst inside one but the check isn't being utilized in the game logic to prevent the enemies from jumpscaring you. Also, a bool (boolean) is a "true or false" variable used in if statements for code.

There's a TH-camr 3FS that completed the last boss fight in this game without knowing you could stun the creature with the support beams. He didn't even know he wasn't doing it right and he succeeded. He's always doing stuff like that. Not knowing about game mechanics and then working around them.

A couple of things that would make this game really cool, is if each animal in the park had unique behaviors that you had to learn and exploit. Say, the smile cats only become aggressive if you turn your back on them, the chimps only become aggressive if they are in a group, things like that. Another I would do, is make it so taking a lightbulb to reload your gun actually removed it from the light source you took it from, so every piece of ammo you took darkened more of the map, and the zookeeper could only move in the dark: now you have to balance how much ammo you take with how much "territory" you're giving the zookeeper.
11:05 If they really had that much of a problem porting their jumpscare animations to a real time environment, they could've done the fnaf help wanted strategy, and transferred you to a black void with the character when they kill you.

When I saw the Zoonomaly trailer, I immediately thought that the developer decided to quickly make a game similar to Zoochosis because you can see how hyped it was and how many people were waiting for it. The creator immediately thought that he could immediately come with his monsters and make money, because the trailer appeared a few months after the Zoochosis trailer and given how it was done, it may indeed have been made in a hurry. I don’t know, I don’t even like the design of the monsters, it’s not scary, just confusing, although it’s probably good for horror.
P.s. Yes, yes, I checked and Zoonomaly came out before Zoochosis, just such a StRaNgE coincidence.

Yeah I was fixing to make a similar comment. I've only heard of Zoochosis once and so when I saw this, I was worried that it was the same game and had gone downhill or something until I looked it up. I'm glad it's not. I'm still excited for it

Part of the “popularity” for this game was people clicking it thinking it was zoochosis 😅 So people weren’t clicking the videos because they were interested they were confused. I saw SO many comments outraged that it “wasn’t like the trailers” because they mistook it for zoochosis.

Gonna mention this, maybe the reason that the jumpscares are bad despite lightsareoff being an animator might be because of the format, he was probably more used to the jumpscares being to a set camera like in his videos so maybe the position of the player messing with the jumpscares wasn't anticipated.
I think this probably could have been fixed by having the jumpscares be the monsters grabbing you before scaring you, or jumping at you in the case of monsters like smiling cat who don't have arms, so the camera stays fixed without messing with the jumpscare animation.
I was really confused when people were talking about this game cuz I thought they were all talking about Zoochosis. I was like “there’s no way that game is bad, right?” And then I saw this and understood what was going on. Definitely got worried cuz I was hyped for that game
I watched 8-bitryan play this and god it was so frustrating to see the game just not function well or the stupid parkour parts or the annoying gimmicks of the enemies, especially the big guy in the main area

This game reminds me why you NEED game designer's and/or programmers to lead projects first and foremost over artists.
While having artists lead your project can be great for the arts, my experience in the Indie game dev scene has proven to me that they usually forget the "Game" part of Video Game. Letting the gameplay, game quality (as in optimizations, playability, and stability), suffer for the sake of their artistic vision.
While I can't share too many details, I'm a programmer who is helping some people who are working on a fan game and it's going really poorly on the dev front.
The project is having it's attention split between itself and other projects, as they're all being lead by the same person. And there's no real focus, because the project lead is either doing art, or trying to do other stuff, and is focused on the artistic vision of the world and not making it a reality.
As a book review I once saw up it.
"Lost in the sauce of dreaming up a world, and imagining the amazing reactions people will have towards it. And not paying attention to the reality of making the world. Condemning you to failure, as you make the artist's equivalent of breaking the first rule of drug dealing. To never get high, on your own supply."

When i first saw zoonomaly i thought the smile cat was stolen from lights are off or someone else, and now, i find out that LIGHTS ARE OFF HIMSELF MADE THE GAME
I hope that if Zoonomaly gets a sequel or at least a update/remake. It has the potential to be great, it just needs a bit more time to fix a few concepts, as well as dealing with the bugs.
I actually really like that light bulb teleport mechanic. Because it's smaller than you, you could make some interesting puzzles with it. Dropping it through a grate, or sticking your arm through a hole in a wall to drop it on the other side could be examples.

I find it pretty funny how you describe a save system where you manually manage your save like it's some weird thing when stuff like Bethesda games have that save system. It's legit so funny to hear it talked about as if it's some weird foreign concept, when like that was VERY common for many series especially some older games.
Granted most games that used that save system did give you option to toggle auto saves but only under certain conditions like entering and existing areas, sleeping or waiting in an area, or fast traveling.
Yeah, but there's no reason for a game like this to not have autosaves. Literally none. Also, what? He's not describing it as some "foreign concept" at all? It's just a weird system to have in THIS type of game.

Eh? Idk I don't think it necessarily works better or worse in any particular kind of game. And yes I'm aware of how baked into game design auto saves are, mainly because of how often things in games used to go wrong but (also) mainly because many did not manage their saves well and basically wanted the games to do it for them.
I personally grew up with save management games so I'm way more used to the idea. (Mind you I'm not that old, only in early twenties, so not trying to sound all "back in my day!" with it)

I think zoonomaly might've been a direct copy to another zoo horror game called 'Zoochosis' which I think may still be in early access or unreleased. (Edit, Zoochosis has a planned release date of this year, being announced on january 16 of this year, Zoonomaly was released this year, TWO MONTHS AFTER ZOOCHOSIS WAS ANNOUNCED)

a fairly cool thing that would make respawning better (idk how easy it would be to implement) is to have the enemies back up just far enough that they're obscured by the distance fog while you're in the safe zones

Oh well, it is their first game after all. It's likely something they had little testing with someone other than themselves and also a project that took some time. I hope that if they try a second time, they would get some actual players to try out the game because the overall concept is not bad.
I actually think they was working on some other game, but after Zoochosis was announced, they quickly made Zoonomaly to jump on a hype train.

I said this in another video explaining Zoonomaly's shortcomings and I'll say it again: The creator should've stuck with short-form creepypastas. Trying to monetize a hobby that is designed around the short-term attention spans of the audience will never go well.
Ehh... Idk. I feel like we shouldn't be discouraging new game devs from even _trying_ to make games. For all of this project's shortcomings, it has a lot of potential. I don't think he should have monetized his first attempt, but I'm still glad he tried to make a game to begin with.
Telling someone to stay in their lane because "that's what they're good at" just discourages people from leaving their comfort zone and learning new skills.

I'm genuinely quite sad that this game ended up not being good. like it totally could have been. I love the idea of limited ammo that also works as a light source- Forcing the player to balance between visibility and fighting could be fantastic. Also, they could balance out the gameplay while still being open world by making areas locked through things like mechanics or knowledge (I've been playing animal well lately, but it's a great example- it limits areas through mechanics not being unlocked, but it also has some puzzles with ideas and mechanics that are broken down and simpler in one area, so doing that area first isn't necessary if you know what you're doing, but if you don't then it's effectively locked. i love it so much.)

Honestly pretty sure this game is leaching off the “hype” of zoochosis, seeing as it came out quite literally 2 months after the trailer for zoochosis and it’s such a rushed disaster. It’s a zoo themed horror game with a zoo pun as a name where the animals are the main threat.
Edit: the zoonomaly trailer does predate any mention of zoochosis I can find, turns out is it just a nightmare of coincidences
While I was incorrect I’m not entirely sure that game’s popularity didn’t boos zoonomaly in anyway
It definitely is because when I first saw this I confused the two games and was very frustrated but extremely relieved when I learned this wasn’t Zoochosis (I had forgotten the name of the game and that’s what confused me)

At the end of the day, it was s solid first attempt, but it is still incredibly flawed
@@PrinceSoph It is definitely not a game you'd want to release for money. Source: amateur game maker and my favorite Games Done Quick block is the Awful/Silly GDQ segment, can very confidently say not making sure the safe spot is safe is really really basic to troubleshoot and fix
in pseudocode: if [safe_zone] is TRUE then remove [player_scarebox] (or: disable [enemy_spotplayer]),
else (literally everything the enemy AI normally does)
Plus, the game has potential on its own. These critiques will certainly help if the developer decides to try making a game again. The first attempt can't be perfect, but you need to know what to improve to make it better. :)
