Amazing! I just brought an 20 year old Cheakaspeake 17 and your video gave me a great understanding of how it was built, and most importantly how I can restore it to it's former glory!
I built the same yak 15 years ago and still have it, i love it. I built my 17LTfrom plans alone, which involved lofting the lines to get the shapes of the hull panels, bulkheads etc which takes some time, especially if you've never done it before, but it's a skill which allowed me to build my fishing boat and hopefully my next boat which will be a 30 odd foot sail boat. I'm turning my 17lt into a sailing tri now for bigger trips down our coast line, the sail will also give me a chance of out running these big Great White sharks we get down here in South Australia. Unfortunately along my coast line where I paddle and fish we've had many White shark attacks and I've had a few encounters with these huge brutes, very frightening on a 17 foot long match stick, especially when they pass and eye ball me and I'm 6 inches from the surface
I love my yak, but don’t have the nerve to take it into great white territory! My next build will be a tandem, or a cedar strip canoe. I love paddling but need a second boat so someone can come along
Boats looking awesome! Glad to see it all come together after hearing about its progress. Also loving the logo. Henry Rollins would be happy about it. See ya tomorrow.
Dont forget to fill the outside gap between the plywood with epoxy and wood sand mixture before applying the fiberglass cloth. Anyway thats a beautiful kayak! Keep the good work ! 💕💕
Well done on the kayak build, it looks great. I bought the same kit Chesapeake 16. I noticed that when you glued the hull panels- looks like you placed a layer of fibreglass on the inside side of the panels even though this wasn't mentioned in the manual I have. Am I right in seeing this? And if so its a good way to reinforce a tighter seal..
I read the manual and watched the video, and got excited to start the build. I added the strip in the wrong place. It didn’t hurt anything if anything made the joint stronger, but it isn’t necessary
I came up with thw same idea. Trace the patterns on some other material then you have them in the future to buld another boat. Its an ethical dilemna though. The designers explicitely state that only one boat per plan can be built. These guys aren't billionaires, this is how they make their living, selling plans. Its a moral dilemna.
Building a 17 Lt at the moment myself. Buying a kit is the right to build one, not take plans and make more yourself to profit. Don't rip off the plans it is the cheapest part of the build, CLC will licence if you need to build more, be ethical.
I bought the stitch and glue boat building book, that has the plans in it. I bought the plans from CLC. I bought the assembly book. I bought the kit to make it easier for my first build. Don’t see anything unethical about making more than one, or selling one. It happens all the time
@@Clayonthetrail it is a licence to build one kayak and the plans clearly state that. Even to the point asking you to contact them if you want to build more. You bought the right to build ONE. Inability to see unethical behaviour is a good indicator of character in my experience.
@@Clayonthetrail of course you did now that someone called you out, no body buys expensive plans and then a kit. As for the assembly book that's not a right to profit off illegal copies. Shameless.

Great job. No paint, I love that wood look. Absolutely fantastic, have fun
Is that logo Black Flag?
It is. A little throw back to my youth

Thanks Jason

I plan on building a second one, and hopefully fixing the mistakes I made on the first
Lot of work. I want to see you keep upright in it.
Hopefully I can get it in the water in the next week. If I can keep it upright I’ll try another one.
great job man!!
Thank You! It’s a fun project

I’ve only made one, after I learned about this, and added this disclaimer the video description
Sooo freaking awesome! Wanna build me one?! 😜
You bet!😉whip one right up
What address do I order a precut kit from?
www.clcboats.com/shop/boats/kayak-kits/touring-kayaks/chesapeake-17-sea-kayak-kit.html
did they actually tell you you could not make more build videos????
Didn’t say anything about the build video, you just need to pay to make a second boat
@@Clayonthetrail ah ok. still weird. once you buy plans, what you do with them is yours.

Considering I purchased 2 versions of the plans and a kit, it looks like I have 2 ethical builds left.

Accusing people of things without all the information in hand is a good indicator of character in my experience
What a messed up video no show of the build , don’t recommend this video
