    I believe the visuals are also referencing a single ginkgo tree survived the blast of Hiroshima, and at the end everything is painted in rainbow colors....a hopeful message for the future after disaster I think. Lots of Babymetal songs that have English incorporated...this song reminds me a lot of their older song "Brand New Day".

    Great reaction, thanks!
    And good guess with the visuals, as they are depicting a couple of nuclear explosions (and also included the blast on the audio track) and a post-apocalyptic situation. Also referring metaphorically to "Ragnarök" from the Norse mythology (not sure if you are familiar with it). Actually the whole song (visuals included) is a huge allegory with several layers of significance.
    It is important to remark that Su-metal is from Hiroshima and she's granddaughter of survivors. And nothing, absolutely nothing in BABYMETAL is a coincidence or happens by accident as they like to say. The lyrics also seem to reference their song "No Rain no Rainbow" and also uses some the same language as a particular intro from the concert "Legend S" held in 2017 in Hiroshima precisely. And, narrated by Su-metal herself, it was about the terrible consequences of the nuclear blasts happened in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
    But despite all the devastation, they wanted to end the song in a positive or at least, optimistic way, showing the tree in colors (it could be "Yggdrasil" again from the Norse mythology, or even one of the survivor trees from Hiroshima or "Hibakujumoku"). And also with the last lines: "We will illuminate the world in rainbow colors. Just smile."
    Very deep and beautiful song. And I can't wait to the whole album... and to see them live!
    Until next time!

    Welcome back to BabyMetal's metalverse.🦊🤘🌐
    Nice to see you're back with this new BM single and sharing with us this special month celebrating SuMetal's 25 birthday, double celebration for me 🥳🎊🏆⚽
    Yea they changed and mature a lot with this new songs, get ready for more next month with more singles, live performance and album release, is gonna be a great year for BM fans and like we told you before, the only official members on this group are SuMetal and MoaMetal.
    They're probably using the Norse mythology, Yggdrasil (the Tree Of Life) as the Aogiri tree, one of the survivor tree in Hiroshima, and the monochrome fireworks altogether along with more references as a metaphor, once you know where SuMetal was born it all makes sense. But instead of endorse negativity she's giving us hope that if a war or any other sad moment (like the recent pandemic) is happening nowadays, the colors will be back.☔☀️🌈
    Monochrome is referring to a single color, it could be any color, for example old computers had green and black display, or when the A-bomb was dropped many people saw grey and pink, and so on, in this case they're using the black and white.
    We all know so far that this time they're introducing us to their metalverse with 10 different worlds and songs, and we're gonna see the full picture once the full album is out, probably some more hints with the next singles coming and the live performance next January. OTFGK.
    They got already three songs full English lyrics: "The One, From Dusk Till Dawn, and Elevator Girl".
    These are the credits:
    *Monochrome*
    Lyrics : MK-METAL
    Music & Arrangement : YUPPEMETAL (aka Yuyoyuppe) he's the one behind songs like Karate, Rondo Of Nightmare, Megitsune and Kagerou, he knows his business and totally rocks.
    Like SuMetal said at the end: _"Just smile"_ 🙂
    Late Merry Xmas and Happy New Year for you. Kitsune up!🦊🤘🎆

      i did not know they had other songs in english 😮 thanks for the insight and thanks for watching

    Su was born and raised in Hiroshima, and some of her grandparents survived the bomb. The monochrome firework looks to be a nuclear bomb, and is a metaphor for the state of the world. And how we can pull together and have rainbows again
    Many of their songs have English, and a couple are completely in English.

    Great reaction. They are definitely maturing, but there are many songs from the first three albums that are deep, meaningful and full of heart to go along with the fun and energetic songs.
    As has been said there are often English words or phrases sprinkled into their songs and they have at least 3 songs that are entirely sung in English - from the second album 'The ONE' (this is the obvious one) and 'From Dusk Till Dawn', from the third album 'Elevator Girl' has a full English version .... most people prefer the original Japanese version.
    'Monochrome' is a beautiful song - but it is deep too. They never put out a lyric video before, I'm thinking they really want us to know what they are singing so we can decide what the song means (as ever it is open to interpretation of course and we will all have our own thoughts, which is not a bad thing) ... and the visuals on lyric videos are never like this, as you saw these mean something too.
    From my starting point of almost complete ignorance I have been learning so much from comments under other reactions about Ragnarok and the Norse mythology being referenced and the general consensus is there are also many references to the bombing of Hiroshima (Su-metal's home town) and Nagasaki, even if it is not specifically about those tragic events.
    The "monochrome firework" could be the bomb and the tree they used in the visuals throughout and that was finally shown in colour at the end could be the Hiroshima Peace Tree that survived the bombing as well as the tree of life from Norse mythology.
    As ever BABYMETAL do leave us with a feeling of hope and optimism and the message that no matter how long the night, the morning will still come. Colour will return to the world.

      Hi ... My references was also the A - bomb but the tree in the end also got me to the trees that survived the A-bomb: the "Hibakujumoku" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hibakujumoku Maybe I'm wrong but that was my initial thought too.

      It's halfway between Idol and Vocaloid. Darker than Idol but not as dark as Vocaloid. It's an interesting transition. With the exception of Rondo of Nightmare all of their early songs had Idol lyrics. Darker doesn't mean better. I love the positivity of Idols. I love both light and dark.
      The Japanese version of Elevator Girl was also dark but that was a later song and the English version was nerfed.

    Nice reaction. Some deep meaning to this song. I see many have already mentioned what the song is about. As in all Babymetal songs you can interpret the lyrics in your own way. For the most part the song is Babymetal bringing hope through tragedy. There are many fans who have mentioned that Babymetal has gotten them through some tough times. A big part of that is their songs are fun happy uplifting and with a positive message. Put all that together in a concert and that's why folks have said their shows are life altering experiences. Fans have mentioned being overly happy for months or longer after seeing them live. We're going to get a new dose of that next month when they perform live for the first time since the 10 years of Babymetal shows at the Budokan around the start of lockdowns because of covid. Later they're going on tour with Sabaton. Waiting for the rest of the tour to be announced for 2023.

    What is this song about? Good question, in my opinion it basically says that when something catastrophic happens in your life and seemingly destroys your hopes and dreams, if you hold on to those dreams that will carry you through the dark times and lead you to a new world reborn where your dreams will come true, and just smile. The video seems to depict a war ravaged city, possibly Hiroshima, the City of Su-metals birth, and also had it's 75th Commemoration of that event in 2020, which would have been about the time they started working on this song (I am pretty sure they held this album back a year because they couldn't play live) There are a few other things that point to it being about Hiroshima, there is the umbrella and the black rain, it rained like that after the bombing and people did indeed try to protect themselves with umbrellas. Then there is the tree, it looks like the tree that survived the bombing even though it lost most of its bark, the tree is famous and its seedlings have been gifted to cities around the world as a symbol of peace. So yeah that's my take on it, but as usual Babymetal leave it vague intentionally so people can make their own meaning for their songs.

  • @zilch634
    @zilch634 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I think there are differences in each interpretation of the songs. The two new songs may be expressed from the different standpoints of the attacker and the receiver.... I think BABYMETAL will be able to make the negative theme of the song HAPPY METAL with a positive stage performance 😊I'm looking forward to the live performance in January 😁

  • @jeffschreifels8651
    @jeffschreifels8651 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    It's apocalyptic imagery but, I think, meant to represent any dark times a person may have in their lives. As is usual the case with Babymetal it comes with encouragement to get through whatever that dark period is.
    I think the soul has always been there but Su's voice has matured a lot now so it definitely has a richer tone. If you listen to songs like Rondo of Nightmare or No Rain No Rainbow, that's gonna come off a lot different than Gimme Chocolate of course.

    • @allegorical
      @allegorical ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The video and song are all produced simultaneously to give the message they want to send. This is the first English lyric video ever produced by them for a reason. This is a concept album with each song representing a different alternate world. It is clear what this world has gone through. Each point in the video matches the song, including the falling firework on the city when the lyrics say 'monochrome firework', and then the spiral sky happens, which represents the passing of time, occurs with the lyrics 'just smile'

    • @jeffschreifels8651
      @jeffschreifels8651 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@allegorical The message could apply to the general state of the world today and it could also apply to personal tragedies. Whatever it is that has removed the happiness ie color in your world. If the message was specific they would have created an MV and not simply a lyric video. It being the first lyric video doesn't necessarily mean anything. Babymetal has always been about fighting your battles and overcoming personal challenges. To me, the words "just smile" would seem out of place if dealing with world catastrophes but make total sense regarding those personal battles. When it seems like your world is being destroyed its up to you yourself to bring the color back in your life.

    • @allegorical
      @allegorical ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jeffschreifels8651Why would a MV somehow be a requirement? This is for all purposes a MV. Giving English lyrics with it means they absolutely don't want the song's message to be lost.
      We literally know this is a concept album and what the concept is. The video and song both reflect this. Naturally alternate worlds in any genre, whether music or literary, will have reflections in the real world, which is the point of surmising what such a world would be like and what we can learn from it.
      How else would you face such a catastrophe? Curl up and just wait to be the last one to finally die off?

    Great reaction. Yes indeed this is a song about surviving a catastrophic event, a nuclear bombing most likely, yet it shows that as long as hope survives and protects us (the umbrellas), life can thrive no matter what. And it's not just empty words, this is what happened in Hiroshima and Nagasaki that have been rebuilt, but also in all those unlucky parts of this globe plagued by war.
    When BABYMETAL was formed, the idea was to deliver a new perspective to Metal, this song is the perfect example, no one else ever dared to give us this point of view on such tragic events.

    The themes here are personal to Su as she is from Hiroshima. As in all Babymetal lyrics (except maybe the food-based songs such as Gimme Chocolate and Pa-pa-ya), the lyrics can often be multi-layered, cultural referenced and deeply meaningful. Same goes for the choreo, where every little movement, body or hand shape or gesture is a depiction of the lyrics. 🦊🤘 At both Hiroshima and Nagasaki, after the atomic bombs had been dropped on the cities' populations, there were trees that survived. At Hiroshima there were some Ginkho trees that continued to flourish and at Nagasaki there was a Camphor tree that did the same. The story of how the Nagasaki tree became a beacon and symbol of hope is told in 'In The Sky Over Nagasaki' which I've got an English translation of by the Peace Resource Center of Wilmington Ohio.

      They're Idol lyrics. That is fine. I like the positivity of Idols. I think American pop stars could learn from Idols. But they're not real deep. Well, Babymetal usually has Idol lyrics. This is like halfway between Idol and Vocaloid. It's not dark enough to be Vocaloid.

    4:10 - Exactly. The bombing of Hiroshima (WWII). At first the city is intact. And then we see it in ruins. Monochrome perhaps symbolizes the shadows left on the walls by people who have been disintegrated by the bomb or the rain of ash that began to fall after the explosion. Umbrellas can represent radioactive fallout. The color that comes back at the end represents the city of Hiroshima that has come back to life.

    • @allegorical
      @allegorical ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It is a modern city depicted in the music video. Nuclear blasts are filmed in monochrome, and the world that follows a nuclear war leaves it in the state of monochrome from the nuclear winter. You can even see what looks to be eroding film in the video. This song is absolutely not about a specific event. Each song of the new concept album is about an alternate world.

      It's a throwback. Yuyoyuppe was a Vocaloid producer before Babymetal. The only Vocaloid I heard of his is Leia and it's darker than Monochrome. Vocaloid can be very dark. Monochrome is like halfway between Idol and Vocaloid. If Monochrome was a Vocaloid it would be much darker. Rondo of Nightmare is like a Vocaloid. Yuyoyuppe wrote that too. If Babymetal is going to become a Vocaloid Metal band I'm here for that but it's not my first choice.

    As with all art, you are free to interpret it in any way, but there's a clear message with this lyric video. It's filled with references to their experience with the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings, like the grey (monochrome) colors from the ash, the black rain, the surviving trees (Hibakujumoku) and the oleander flower (official flower of Hiroshima). It's a good reminder of the horrific moments. It wouldn't be far-fetched to *imagine* that the girl with the umbrella is meant to portray Su. I know Su grew up in Hiroshima before moving to Tokyo sometime during the Sakura Gakuin days.

    Babymetal always had english in their lyrics, so that is nothing new. They even made a complete english version of “The One” for their fans since they were so impressed that so many fans learned Japanese to be able to sing along with the Japanese lyrics.
    To answer your question about Yui: she officially resigned from Babymetal in 2018 after a year of absence due to undisclosed health reasons.
    The interpretation of the song is up to every listener. I personally think it is referencing the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, Su-metals hometown. As most Babymetal songs it ends with a positive message “Just smile” and brings everything back to color.
    In this song Su has no writing credits (other than for “Divine Attack”) but I agree, they sound very mature now which fits them since they are 25 and 23 now. I can’t wait for the next song in January and of course the album in March but my highlight will be in May when I get to see them live, YAY! 🤘🦊🔥
