In time, you'll get your fingertips callused and it won't hurt anymore. But remember, guitar is all about consistency, when you train an instrument, you gotta do it regularly otherwise everything you learned will kind of slowly go away from your muscle memory and your fingers will just go back to normal, if that makes sense

Edit: for everyone asking and so my phone can stop blowing up, my progress is going great. I own 3 guitars now as my parents saw how obsessed i was and wanted to invest in it. I can play songs and sing fluidly however i still think barred chords are SO HARD for my small little fingers 🥺🥺🥺.
I hope you the biggest luck! Never stop playing and also practive 40 hours a day. And stay motivated all the time. Most importantly have fun!

I'm a 14 year old girl and when I tell people that I want to learn guitar they always say I should play piano since most (girls) do that. After 1 month of teaching myself chords I got bored and two months later here I am watching your video :) this has given me inspiration beyond what I could imagine. thank you so much you have gotten me back into guitar.
Have you tried playing music/songs you like? Doing that is extremely fun. Practice some nirvana songs or something.

I can relate mate.. sometimes I feel like I'm not making any progress at all, after weeks of practicing. But then, as if something clicks in my brain, the next day I try to do the same thing and it's like the easiest thing in the world. Those are the moments that really motivate you to keep it up. A word about learning and practice. As you found out you just learn a few notes, chords and keep playing consistently.
In an interview, the famous cellist Pablo Casals was asked:
"Mr. Casals you're 93 years old and you have been playing the cello since you were 11 years old. Why is it that you STILL practice 2 hours every day? " Casals said:
" I'm beginning to notice some improvement"
So, 1 year down, 81 more to go for you. :D

I will also give you a tip, use tabs from soviet guitar and tutorials from Let's play guitar. If you are a beginner then learn songs from tab sheet music. Learn picking the right strings without buzz, then start learning scales and chords. Don't need much of music theory other than those. There are also other channels who provide free tabs and tutorials look 'em up. It feels like you will never learn and you will never be better but don't forget that everyone goes through that. Play guitar for a few months without breaks and you will get much better, I promise.
That smile at the end. When you're so proud and all those frustrating times, and times you felt like giving up, all become worth it.

I've been playing for just over 10 years. Be proud of yourself that's some good progress dude. One thing I wish I knew when I started learning, was how motor memory works. Never ever play for more than 30/60 minutes on something new each time. It's the mental break inbetween that locks in those new shapes. Even little naps in between playing makes a massive difference. For those beginners, Put the pick down and start fingerstyle. Good beginner channels are Ebunny, sky guitar, Gareth Evans, lick n riff. Ofc marty swartz and ah. What's that guys name. He's English.... Pf sorry mate I forgot you lol
I recently started playing and my fingers just hurt so bad especially the index finger. Would you recommend using those silicon tips or will my fingers get used to it over time? I definitely won't be able to practice more than 15-20mins anyway for how bad my fingers hurt LOL!

@@deepsahoo5297 I recommend sticking with it even if it's painful. You'll get used to it. Also check that the action of the guitar is not too high. Another tip is you can switch out the strings for a lighter gauge. It will hurt less.

I started playing guitar my freshman year around four to three years ago. I went from raging at the fact I couldn't switch between and A chord to a D to literally playing Hendrix solos years later. 🤪
You'll get to the point you'll want guys. Takes time but you'll get there. The only way you don't get there is if you quit.

And do you also encounter the frustration a string accidentally muting like in d chord where the 1st string always mute for me. If you encountered this, how long did it took you to make a clean d chord sound or any open chord for that matter?

learning guitar on your own is a pain, the beginning is the toughest because its something totaly new and doesnt feel natural, hurts fingers on many levels and so on xD i kept at it because it was the best thing to acompany my singing with and i am so happy now for the day i decided to play guitar... progress is noticed over years and doesnt come easy and there is no real shortcut the only recipe is never give up, just keep at it

@@messyalien878 its a funny thing but people with all shapes and sizes can learn to play, you have to constantly change your whole hand position and twist it and turn it all arround =D figure out what works for you or just look up some tutorials how to easily grab some chords then its practice and muscle trainning. At first your hand can really hurt in some positions but you gain stamina and strength by practicing

This is actually pretty slow learning, i saw this video 5 months back and thought it would take me more time to get where he reached after a year, but i practiced a lot and now after 7-8 months of playing im learning Cliffs of Dover (if you have heard that song,if not, check it out), so practice as much as you can ;-)
I'm here! Depressed? Pick up guitar anyway, just to keep the feel. If anything, don't play just practice memory with your fingers. Challenge yourself each time ( try not to look)

Playing the guitar is a passion. Practice every day until you have blisters and calluses on your fingertips. Hours, days, months, years and then you achieve the best you could wish for 🎸

I started playing acoustic guitar just 2 days ago. My index finger hurts! But I know I'll get used to the pain the more I keep practicing. I am still trying to perfect the most basic moves for now... I play for 5-10 minutes whenever my Fingers feel better like 3-4 times a day. TH-cam suddenly recommended this video to me and I just love it! Wish me luck yall! :D

sometimes is hard to do that, cuz when you're learning to play you are concentrated on what you are playing and it's hard to just relax. I had the similar problem, where my left hand hurt after couple of minutes playing. But good advice. It's good when someone can tell what you are doing wrong, and you can concentrate on fixing it.
@@nikolababic1470 thank you sir :) Can you please tell me if I can use a 0.46mm Nylon pick (Dunlop) for Acoustic guitar. My teacher told me to use the 0.56 harder material pick but I only one of that. I have set of the Dunlop ones which will go to waste if I don't use them. What do you recommend?
@@RenaudAlly well sure, if it feels comfortable to play. I rarely use a pick, but when I play with it, I usually use thinner picks because it's easier for strumming, but if you use metal strings, 0.56mm is good, maybe even a bit thicker. And it also has to do with the quality of the pick. I have one Dunlop pick 0.78mm, and have Alice picks 0.58mm and the Dunlop one is more bendy, and yet it doesn't brake, while Alice one often breaks in half when I pick the string really fast.
@@nikolababic1470 so is it wrong to use the Dunlop 0.46 mm ones I have (for acoustic steel stringed)? Since I have only one Alice 0.56mm I don't want to depend much on that.

I started playing acoustic guitar at my friend's dorm room, during which i didn't know how to play at all. Usually after studying, i would take a break for a while, hold the guitar and started fiddling with it. After some time, i got curious and watched youtube videos of how to play guitar, i started with chords placement videos, all of them were quite complicated at that time, so i searched easy guitar strumming songs, I found boulivard of broken dreams, that song ingnited my passion for guitar, i tried learning the 4 intro basic chords over and over just to play the intro strumming. After a while i finally got it. That was when i got even more curious and started to expand my chords knowledge. I kept searching for easy chord songs, different songs used different chords. Almost everyday after class, i would pick up the guitar and practice those chords. It becomes more fun to learn these chords when you want to play a certain song so badly.At this point, i spent more time on the guitar than studying. But it was worth the time because now i can just look at chord sheet of a song i want to play and easily play them. Its satisfying. When i got home after the semester, i bought a guitar for myself. That was when i wanted to learn more, i taught my self fingerstyle songs, the one I'm currently learning is river flows in you. Everyday im learning new things about guitar, i dont think i will stop soon. The more i play it, the more i want to explore. That is the beauty of acoustic guitar. It has only been one year since i first fell in love with the acoustic guitar. Now i have two acoustic guitars at home

Shimeia its all about the passion, if you want to learn guitar, search an easy song that you like on youtube and learn just the beginning. Its easier to learn when the song is a song you like. Once you get the hang of it, finish the song and proceed to learn other songs. You'll get there trust me

Man, I've had my guitar for 3 days and I was like. I'm not a rockstar yet, ffs. But I'll keep at it, one hour a day, or until I start fucking up, then I put it down, but I find myself interested in picking it up every moment I'm not doing something, it calls to me.

I remember starting playing guitar just about 3 months ago. I had private guitar lessons tho, so that is wayyy easier than doing online lessons. I remember my first day, omg I was so bad litterly couldn't switch my fingers. At one time at the 2/3 week mark I almost gave up. I was so close to giving up that it was quite insane.
I put about 1-3,5ish hours everyday to practice, sadly can't play right now due to my hand being broken.
Right now I can play almost anything I want. Apart from hard rock and super tough songs.
This just shows you that EVERYONE can play and learn the guitar. Only if you ACTUALLY put alot of time into it. Everyone will succeed eventually, apart from the people who quit.
This is so encouraging David. Had a guitar for Christmas after wanting to learn for a while. Watching this has given me even more belief in myself to do it. Thank you for taking the time to show people your progress. Inspiring.

So bro, I watched this video first back in the first week of April 2020 which was just my first week of learning the guitar, by myself, online and with a help of a cousin who was relatively a beginner too.
When I first saw this video, it motivated me like anything.. cause the first night I tried playing the guitar, I understood that this thing is gonna take some patience and good practice and roughed up fingers to get good at, and this video proved my patience point.
It's been 2 months and a week now, been playing the guitar almost everyday for a while, and I'm proud to say I've learned so much... So much that 3 nights back I thought of just trying something in fingerstyle, and I got (almost) the whole Nothing Else Matters' intro in just one night (and ofcourse 2-3 days to practice and keep getting better at it).
These 2 months of guitar experience have been crazy good and I've already learned to play so many songs with the pick but above all stands the fingerstyle Nothing Else Matters. I see this video now and I feel I've progressed at a pretty rapid pace and at a stage in 2 months which you reached in 7-8 months and this is honestly so motivating. I've thought about this video of yours quite a lotta times whenever I've surprised myself by learning and playing something in these last 2 months. Not demeaning you here in anyway. I've still got a lot and lot to learn and get better at. This video motivated me then and it's motivating me tonight and in a way that makes me curious and ready for what I can achieve in the next 5-6 months (after seeing where you reached by the end of the video) if I keep at it. Smooth and confident AF. So impressive, man!

This is illegal ! You got soo good at the end. I've been learning for about one year and all I can do is strum along in various patterns to different kinds of chords. The only even remotely impressive thing I've achieved is that , I can do some barre chords too. Your soloing looks really cool and you've learned percussive style as well ! Damn boy !
