      @@longshot7601 Unapologetically. As an American, I have to say, big smoky burnouts with a rumbling, torquey V8 are WAY more fun than you think they are if you’ve never experienced it. Clarkson knows it and hates himself for loving it. Hammond has stopped living the lie, and I bet it was a hell of a load off his shoulders to come clean about it.

      @@The_sinner_Jim_Whitney The most fun that I used to have in a car was an old V-8 Buick. It could smoke the skinny bias ply tires and would understeer like a pig but there was something so visceral about driving that thing on pavement, dirt or mud. Today's cars are far more capable but too refined to be actually fun in my opinion. That is why the car on top of my dream list is a Caterham.

    in the late 90's, I saw a Viper on the German Autobahn...being chased by two...2 (!!) other german high-tech vehicles. they passed me and I was doing 120...and the airwall from his passing me ROCKED (!!!) my car on the left side.
    The road flowed slightly downward and you could see it for at least 4 miles long.
    The other german cars seemed happy to be keeping up as they passed me.
    When they seemed to be in-step/in-pace with that Viper...suddenly another puff of exhaust could be seen from the tail of the Viper and he simply stepped on the pedal farther, punching it.
    That is the moment i will forever savor...because I witnessed this Viper clearly pulling away from that high-tech set of cars and move a distance equal to an SR-71 leaving a Turtle in the cabbage patch.
    The other cars? They simply pulled into the middle lanes and accepted the truth...as it moved forward into eternity.
    The other cars? One was a very high-tech super-wing Porsche and the other was a very serious AMG.
    I will forever remember that moment...when this driver simply punched the gas and left that garbage in the rear-mirror. I smiled.

    Clarkson hates American cars overall but the Viper is probably the best expression of him anyway. And yes a Euro engineer could probably get 1300hp from that much displacement, But I feel like the viper is for the exact opposite thing. When you want to wear a suit, shoot spies with a walther and drink six figure wine you drive the McClaren, Ferrari, Lambo, Aston Martin. When your mood is jeans, tshirt, shotgun and cheap beer you drive the viper.
    *note unlike the movies please wait until you have parked the car after wasting badguys while driving before moving in on the booze, Unlike 007 And/Or 80s action heroes you cannot operate a vehicle legally or safely while intoxicated.

      Funny thing...
      American cars get put down all the time ...and i like European cars..
      But the true fact is a new Newer Corvettes ,Vipers are better than the Euros,
      sure interior is not as good ...but affordable if average joe saves,...
      he can get one ..and guess what?
      Simple affordable mods with make Euros look stupid against the Vets ,
      Viper....AC Cobra??? Ford GT??
      In some ways they are more advanced..KISS principal.
      Dont get me wrong..love Ferrari 's lamos!!..love my BMWS
      But i have seen really cocky guys with beautiful expensive Euros ..
      get schooled.
      Anyways i love all cars ..but i respect American V8 s ..

    (literally a 'Go Fund Me' effort!) and an independent crew, yet..& despite a string of bad luck, garnered that time. The '16 Viper ACR is a 6 min 'ring car on the right day with the right driver, no problem. Anyways, a YT search for 'Viper 7:01 will get ya to the video.

    So it's an infernal combustion engine ?

  • @catjudo1
    @catjudo1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    A European, when given 8.3 liters of power, would have made more power. A European, when given 8.3 liters in the form of a two valve per cylinder pushrod 90 degree V-10, would have also made more power. But in changing the truck engine to a performance engine, the Europeans wouldn't make it nearly as reliable as it is. They don't need Ferrari or Lamborghini maintenance. They can just be flogged all day and just keep running. It could be serviced at any Dodge dealer, or can be worked on in the garage. There's no way to do that with an exotic. The Viper is obnoxious and loud, but with basic maintenance, it will keep on going.

    ..(if i have the year correct) 2003: "Only" 510 hp, at 5,600 RPM.
    ..but torque wins races..as it translates to acceleration out of the curves.
    535 ft/lbs at 4,200 RPM.
    Vipers can run hard for a good long time and don't cost
    $400,000+ for the performance lvl to match it..minus the
    over engineered toughness, ofc in much of her competition.

  • @mattl7886
    @mattl7886 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    that 500 hp was actually de-tuned and naturally aspirated. The stump pulling power of that engine is not the same as 500 hp on a small displacement engine.
