  • In this, "How To video", I talk about Weather Pack Connectors.
    I Assemble and Disassemble, Weather Pack connectors. I have used these connectors for a long time.
    I think I like the new Deutsch Connectors better, with the exception:
    1) That everything is smaller, harder for these fat fingers to maneuver the small parts
    2) Harder for these old eyes to see the numbers on the backs of the connectors and to thread the wire into the connector.
    I do like the positive feeling of the connections, and will be making the switch.

    Put the seal on the wire first, then strip the insulation. Otherwise you can snag a copper hair into the seal damaging it. Also, the tool has a step in the ratchet mechanism which serves the purpose to hold the connector in the tool while you insert the wire into the right position.

    This was the first video of yours that I've seen so I didn't know what you were talking about with the other connector. Very useful video 👍

    deutsch is top shelf indeed especially with the OEM and the solid pins but damn they are expensive. ive been using the weatherpack and do like them. the time it takes me to put together an engine harness i don't want to worry about an issue to i solder the pins after I've crimped them. a good clean hot iron and solder with lead works well.

      Hard to find good lead solder with the government regulations on solder / lead contain.

    I have just watched the video... good stuff. It's hard to find anything on the weather proof connectors and especially the crimper. I have bought 3 different types and only sort of works. I am buying another one as I want it to work right the first time. The one that I am buying is similar to the one in the PDF mentioned below. Good job mate.

    Shame, nobody tells, what kind of crimping tool / ratchet one needs. I bought one from a Chinese seller. Hope, it will do what desired... But still: nicely made video!

    At 5:16, you say you’ve never gotten a clear answer and you put the pins in the male. The instructions for the 22 Pin bulkhead connector say to put the pins in the female and the sleeves in the male. I learned this the hard way. The male connector is tapered to guide the mail pins which would be located in the female connector into the sleeves. dalhems.com/f/d/f083f2e16ec948ecb46ea2f400da5c5a/40130.pdf

    Those ratcheting crimpers are nice but do the authentic non-ratcheting Delphi Weatherpack Crimpers work better?

    Made these for the first time at work a couple days ago. A little confusing, but I’ll get it down eventually. One question though; it doesn’t matter which goes into which connector? Pins go male and barrels go female? Or it doesn’t matter?

      @ThrottleStopRacing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do not have a good answer for you. I have always put the barrels on the hot side and the pins into the connector that looks like pins???????

      There is an example in the video, at one point I am tested that the pin is seated correctly and it pulls out of the connector. I reseat it and all seems fine. This happens from time to time with these weather pack connectors. I have not had it happen yet with the Deutsch connectors. Also I have had the pins misalign when you assemble the connector to each other.

    how do you disassembly the flat blade weather pack connectors not the barrel and pin connectors

    • @ThrottleStopRacing
      @ThrottleStopRacing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure, but I think you slide a small screw driver down the flat blade of the connector and that pushes back the tab that holds the blade in place, I have not done one in a long time. Sorry.

    Can you slide those seals a lot further back and solder the wires onto the pins instead, then slide back the seals. I hate crimpers to be honest. Thanks

    • @ThrottleStopRacing
      @ThrottleStopRacing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure that would work as the pins are a tight fit into the plugs.

      @@ThrottleStopRacing I ended up using a blob of solder on each pin. Worked out great and what with the crimp, is "belt and braces". very impressed with these plugs that I used to replace 40 year old connectors on a DeLorean (Rear lights).
