    Of all the videos on these connectors out there, this is the only that actually explains everything fully. Right down to which plug goes with which connector - yes, I even struggled with that for a bit......As a rank beginner and electrical dummy, I managed to get it done without any throw away pieces. Thanks folks :)

    Thank you. I used to use molex connectors. They are easy to assemble and to replace pins on.
    But are not as water resistant.
    So now I will try these.
    Should have watched this first and bought the real tool.
    Thanks!

    They look like good strong weather proof connectors.

      Open barrel are crimp only - that all purpose tool from the local hardware store is going nowhere, so leave that for cutting machine screws and get the right tool. Typically, these benefit from the extra wrist tab that locks onto the insulation to prevent pullback - the stamped connectors he showed come with that I think. Closed barrel can be crimped or soldered. And for any pin connector system, get extraction tools to match the manufacturer. The connector in this video is a front release type - pretty good all purpose. The pin goes on the wire before putting it in the shell and closing it up. If you are worried about pushed pins on hookup, then a rear release system is bullet proof [but not as commonly used]. But, you gotta pull your wires through the shell first before putting on pins, and if you get arrangement wrong you will be cutting those crimps off and reaching for new brass... no mistakes forgiven. There are exceptions to these arrangements to be sure [some very clever inventors out there, you know].
      I like these Deutsch connectors for most devices: reasonable heat resistance, pins stay put, and brass has fair protection from an occasional hose down. Just make two pigtails [one male connector/one female] and keep them in the toolbox for troubleshooting if need be - alot of end devices are potted/sealed [with short leads provided] and your typical meter lead is too big to jam into these connectors without risking damage. I found one example [but you could just make your own]: www.pico-technology-deutschland.de/Deutsch-DTPXX-4-Connector-Breakout-Lead-for-4-pin-Large-Connectors. Disclosure? I know nothing about this company, and have not done business with them. I just stumbled upon the right item to demonstrate - notice they leave enough single conductor available to put an amp clamp on it for testing. If you've sleeved wires or heat shrunk them into a bundle, this is a time saver down the road.

      The correct tool is very expensive, the knock offs do not do the job.

    • @cri8tor
      @cri8tor 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not always true. Purchased a knock off, non-ratcheting tool for crimping the pins in some knock off Weather Pack connectors. Both the tool and connectors have been working great for crimping and hundreds of miles without failure. People copy ideas all the time with great success.

    Hi, I'm converting a few of my early 1994 Harley-Davidson connectors to Deutch. I discovered one of the ports has 2 wires going into it. I would imagine that trying to force 2 wires into one of the Deutch connectors is a "no-no"? In my case would it be best to peel back some of the insulation and soldier the two together and then use one port? Can't seem to find an answer to this. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and advice. I hope my above question made sense.

    • @ThrottleStopRacing
      @ThrottleStopRacing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you have any other empty pips in the connector? In stead of soldering the wires together, run them through the connector separately.

    Dumb question maybe. Does the crimp come into play anyway in the lock? I have a hood set of square crimpers that make a wire ferrel into a square for screw down term like amps and fuse blocks. Doesnt have a point but makes a super tight square in the barrel. Should have bought a kit. I paid $100 for 2 wire kits. All they are is 12x 18-20" of wire with Male and female connectors to extend wires sorta plug and play.

    • @ThrottleStopRacing
      @ThrottleStopRacing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The crimp does not play a part in the lock.

    • @shawng7902
      @shawng7902 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I found both sets I ordered. I have male and female barrels. As easy as they come apart I'll try some and see if they work. Pretty impressed how easy they are to work with compared to weather pack for sure. Other than crimpers no special tools. Have them but didny need anything but a pocket screwdriver.

    But my Jeep and Dodge will still get Weather Packs.

    You forgot to mention observing the connection polarity #1 and #2 stamped on each different connector. If the wires are inserted in the wrong hole, polarity sensitive loads like LED lights will not work.

    Thank you sir for the great video. Can you tell me what the minimum gauge of wire is this connector can take. I have 8 wires that are really thin (maybe 20 gauge) that I need to group them into one connector. Thank you!

    • @ThrottleStopRacing
      @ThrottleStopRacing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Product specs say AWG 16-22 .... I have been able to use 14 gauge in the pins, I have not tried smaller gauges. See this link for the specs.

    • @ThrottleStopRacing
      @ThrottleStopRacing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Sultanbayev I do not know what that means, I assume it has to do with how resistant it is to the elements?

    • @Sultanbayev
      @Sultanbayev 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lever-Family-Racing it is ingress protection level (ie International protection marking). First number relates to dust, particles and objects, second relates to water. IP68 means that it is dust tight (maximum possible protection, from 0 to 6) and can be immersed in water to 1m deep (from 0 to 9k, where 0 is no protection, 9k powerful hot water jets).
      Info about IP rating and water depth I found on TE website, product’s FAQ

    these are used all over. sooooo much easier than the weather pack imo. LADD industries is a distributor too.
    I really wished they would come out with a larger series that the DT. There isn't any connector that has multiple ports for 10 AWG. Whole new series would be slick for converting old marine engine wire harness over to deutsch.. 12-10awg .. 14 is about the max that i know of.

    • @sogyseal7962

      There are larger Deutsch connectors. I cant give you the p#'s right now bc my kit is on the truck but I know there are some large ones in there. Theres also a deutsch but connector and a deutsch 1 to 2pin adaptor, so you can go from an existing connector and add 1 more off of it.
