While she may have been informative, did you notice her personal interests shining through? She took great enjoyment in making people look at a melanoma case that was very advanced and causing a lot of destruction but shrugged with disappointment at cases that were simple and easy... If you were stuck with her as a lecturer or doctor you would end up being scared. She enjoys watching people suffer and making other people watch! I would never have gone to the UCF, but this video confirmed to me that no one should. It's like watching lady gaga pretend to be a specialist healthcare provider while she finds a way to destroy them - it's like a cheap pop song that no one likes after 3 listens but somehow people think is valid... I am scared for the people who go there.

THIS was an excellent presentation, Bless this doctor. I have as a lay person before referring people to board certified dermatologists for very different concerns. They all were confirmed to have cancers. Only because my own dad who was an MD was misdignosed by a dermatologist (old guy). My dad knew it was wrong and got a second diagnosis, a MOHS procedure, plastics to repair his face, then died from a tumor in his jaw. I am an RN now and advocate for continuing reassessment. Doctors are not infallible and learn from the cases they encounter. PLEASE ask for the highest expertise available. The system is designed for the lowest cost treatment, not the BEST.

I have it now. I just turned 40 today and found out at 36 I had small cell lung cancer, chemo and radiation…a year after that I got a one inch brain tumor so near to my spine that I had to have more radiation. I had clean scans and then this birthmark I had for years started to grow and it was flat. It got darker. I was at the cancer center every three weeks no one noticed it. From a flat small birthmark it grew a bit and I truly thought it was all the weight I had lost, maybe it just stretched out. Now it is black, in the shape of a heart and I guess I have one on my back but I’ve never scene it. Months went on, I now have after it itching a bit it turned into a black heart. My nurse has told me it can go anywhere outside or inside my body. I am very fearful. I have been fighting cancer for years now. They told me I only had 2-3 years and that was just from the small cell lung cancer which isn’t in your lungs, however it’s under you lungs and makes super sized lymph nodes as the oncologist called them and what they do is push on your bronchial tubes. I have not expired and fought with chemo and radiation and like I said then the 1 inch tumor on the back of my skull and too close to my spine to do surgery and thankfully radiation did it’s job and it’s still shrinking after more than a year. I have fought both of this with clean scans under my lungs and my brain tumor is still shrinking. It turned from brown to black on the out side of my ear but near it, on my face. I finally get to go to a dermatologist by the end of the month (July). Since I got cancer 3.5 years ago on Valentine’s Day I found out I had the small cell lung cancer with nothing in my lungs. They told me I was very young to get that cancer and I thank God daily that even the 2-3 years I had I survived 3 years and 6 months. I am so tired. This skin cancer I pray doesn’t go inside. My sister passed away 2.5 weeks from cancer before I found out I had cancer. The cancer I have is the worst one I’ve been told. The fact that I was so naïve and thought that it could just be cut off and even though I went in every three weeks to the cancer center nobody really much paid attention to it so I didn’t really know what was going on and again I had had radiation twice 31 time and 10 on my head for the tumor in my brain and I had gotten through both of those things knowing that I was just on a temporary what they call terminal remission basically that even though my scans were clean it didn’t mean it still wasn’t what I had come to the cancer center with the day after I had surgery where they went down and checked all that out and did biopsies and said it was small cell lung cancer and then with the brain cancer I did it 10 with that and the mask being on my face was probably the worst part and I was so thankful that it was shrinking but I guess it’s not enough to get me to heaven because I’m quite sure as my brother is an RN that this battle I may not win. I am very worried and I do pray. I am a Christian and I feel like that Cancer has plagued so many people now it’s even worse than Covid. I don’t understand what I did to deserve this but if I could do it all over again I sure it’s heck would not leave behind three kids that still need me and a husband of 21 years that we got married when I was 19 years old and he was 21 almost 22 and I don’t wanna leave them all and that will leave my mother with only one child left which is my brother. I smoked most of this short life and for some reason are used to say when I was quite shorter that I didn’t think I’d live past 50 and how crazy is it that this all is happened and now I’m just waiting to see what they’re going to do but I’m scared to death because tonight when I talk to my brother I let him know because I’ve been hiding it from my family especially my mother because I did not want her to know and she also was the first one who took me to a tanning salon because she always went and now she doesn’t go to tanning salon she just plays out in the yard and I did that too but I have always had an olive color to my skin as I do have a different father than my sister and brother who both are/were and I am also the youngest obviously. There is no cancer on my mothers side but I tried to find my birth father medical history and he just blocked me. His whole family who only lived 20 minutes away. I am watching all of this and I haven’t seen the worst one yet is what I have. But I do feel like it’s mostly my fault I should have definitely been more aware and it didn’t occur to me like I said that I would have parts of my body cut off possibly or just that area is what I thought but my brother tells me that it routes and they may have to takeoff my ear and I’m not going to do that I will I have it done anywhere else on my back if it needs to be but I am not going to have my ear taken off it’s close to my ear but it’s not in my ear so I guess when I get to go to the dermatologist when they could get me in then I’ll find out what kind of battle for the third time in 3 1/2 years I’m going to have to fight this time when my body is already tired and I just don’t understand what I did to deserve this tired of talking about cancer I just wanna be happy and live. God bless all of you that are watching this for the same reason I am and I pray that you were able to catch it early and not have to go through any more cancer. I’ve seen so many leave their families too soon. I don’t want to be like that I am only 40 years old they told me that the first Cancer was very rare for my age and I haven’t been in the sun for at least 45 years if not more than that. But this just popped up one day and now I guess I got a pay for it. I keep praying but it is so hard to believe I’ll get through this especially how damaging it is to your organs and the fact it who knows where it will go next. I will pray for anyone that has it but many people that would be watching this video probably don’t believe in Jesus or God but I sure do and I hope that when my life is over everything I’ve learned it’s true and I’ll be able to see my sister and my grandma and so many in my family that have passed and since I rescued bully breeds for over a decade I hope every one of the dogs that I helped in someway are there as well. I spent my whole life being a mother while my husband was overseas and he now is a veteran and I truly think because of how he is and many of you may say no that won’t help but he takes a shower about once every week or two and he doesn’t brush his teeth hardly ever but guess who doesn’t have cancer, doesn’t have a cavity, is very healthy and I’m just this little 4‘11“ 95 pounds trying to fight for my life and I took baths and I did what what I was supposed to and I went to the dentist like I was supposed to until I turned 18 and then I didn’t go unless I had to and chemo made quite a few my teeth bad so they had to be taken out but I even got through that and now I sit here on TH-cam trying to figure out what the dermatologist is going to tell me and I have not yet seen one that looks as bad as mine. Again if you pray please pray for me and my family and I promise I will pray for you as well.

People don’t get cancer because they deserve it. People aren’t healthy because they deserve it. Your dna has been passed down that make you susceptible to health issues. Being out in the sun and smoking did not help but most people do not get the kind of cancers you are getting unless their dna was ripe for these health issues. It seems you have fought very hard to survive and I wish you well. But don’t waste your time wondering why you are having these health issues and other people don’t. It has nothing to do with your behavior, you and your other family members were born with the tendency to develop these awful cancers. Teach your children to use sunscreen, see the dermatologist for regular body checks, stay out of the sun as much as possible, avoid smoking, and eat healthy. Show them this video and tell them to get help as soon as they have a concern. Good luck in your efforts.

I have the utmost respect for professionals like Dr. Fox who care for patients with skin lesions and cancers. As an older, adult male with fair skin and blue eyes, I've had experience with a number a therapies and treatments beginning in my early 20's never expecting to live to be in my 70's, and in otherwise excellent health. I've learned to pay close attention to changes in my skin, and to act on it when there's a question.
Taking the utmost precaution when in the sun has paid off.
And, continuing to do so may prevent me from looking like a prune or healed up hamburger when I'm in my 80's.

We were 19 in 1975. My college roommate was a lifeguard, and he had terrible acne which was not mentioned in this video. I think there had to be some basal cell carcinoma. He took medication and used suntan lotions. I forget the name of the medication...Weird that doctors don't like to talk about eating a healthy diet and avoiding toxins. I don't agree with avoiding the sun. There are tribes of people in other countries that are always in the sun, and they have no cancer. What about the Amish that live a relatively clean life, and tend to keep healthy, but they don't wear sunscreen, and they are outdoors a lot ?

The genetic component is important. I had melanoma on the same section of my neck as my great grandfather. He died from it at 42 but mine was treated. I also had to have reconstructive surgery at Johns Hopkins because a cancer had been treated with the freezing treatment and it did not get it all. It took years for anyone to believe me and by then the squamous cell carcinoma became invasive and required reconstructive surgery and 42 radiation treatments.

My story is a bit like yours - but only 1 AK that was removed from my face 5 years ago. It started to become active in late 2021, I tried different oils and ointments on the spot - they didn't work. However, I remembered this lecture where she mentioned Vitamin B3 might be helpful.
I started taking B3 and Melatonin 2xs day and applied 2-3xs daily an organic E-Cream by Skin Essence with Calendula, Chickweed, Gotu Kola, Nettle, Olive Oil, Zinc, Oat Extract, White Kaolin Clay, etc. - originally I had ordered it for my son's Psoriasis, but thought it might help me too. To my delight the AK has healed up - and I'm only using the cream daily with Melatonin and a B-complex.

I love this presentation! It suggest to me a “good news/bad news” factor when studying and practicing dermatology. The good news Is that the cancers and lesions are visible, at least prior to metastasis, but the treatment is challenging because there are so many different types of lesions that might be difficult to identify. I guess, when in doubt, get a biopsy!

recently had half my nose amputated because of a basal cell that came up so fast I almost missed it. Was supposed to be just a small surgery. Hours and countless lidocaine shots later I was left with a patched up nose using my cheek tissue. Most pain I've ever had in my life and it's lasted 7 months and still now finally calming down. Take a closer look please and get checked out asap if you see anything unusual.

Very interesting. So far I have had several squamous cell carcinoma, which I noticed and showed to dermatologist at annual skin checks. Two have looked like warty looking things, gray or grayish green colored. First biopsy was negative . Lesion returned as a squamous cell carcinoma . I am fair and native of FL. My husband had an assortment . Family members noticed a changing dark spot on the back of his upper arm, which was melanoma. Looked like a grease smear.
All people with a history of skin cancer really need to watch this video . I think patients with a history of skin cancers should use a dermatologist who uses the Mohs procedure. I use a different dermatologist for other skin conditions.

I am very appreciative of such a detailed and visual presentation, as I was concerned about the first samples / examples on my skin. Now I am relieved, and will pay more attention to my skin. I think its important to include the types of Melanoma. My husband died of Nodular Melanoma from a mole that changed. The doctor initially wasn’t going to do a biopsy as he said it was anything. At the last minute he changed his mind. His melanoma looked almost completely circular.

I had a perfectly round black mole on my arm. No different than many moles I have had forever. I don't know when this one on my arm made me take notice. It was 2.5 mm. I went to derm when it started to change in color. Next day doc cut it out. Biopsy revealed it to be nodular melanoma pT3a. I am going in soon for a second wide excision and will have regular follow-up hereafter. That little round evenly colored, smooth mole was there for a year, maybe more. It looked so innocent but it is the deadliest of skin cancers. I hardly considered it, as I always looked for uneven border, color, surface and bleeding. I just found out a few weeks ago and am still in shock.. Who knows how far it has progressed or if it is elsewhere in my body? I am scrambling to get my affairs in order w/ updating my Will etc . I don't know if I am paranoid but I feel like this is serious. My overall health has been ill for at least two years. But who knows? There could be lots of reasons for feeling unwell. I think it is a duty our primary care doctors advise us to see a dermatologist to be checked and to even give a mini lecture on the skin, as the lecturer did in this great video. Please be vigilant, my friends. Check yourself, your kids, family, anyone you care about and warn them if you notice something you feel they should have checked out. Good luck.

One thing I wish would change in the pharm-physician-patient triangle is the total lack of application information in Rx cremes.
You leave the office with a fistful of prescriptions and a dazed look on your face. Then you get home and wonder: “ Was the 5-fluorouracil for my genital itching and the clobetasol for my face, or vice versa?”
I do wish that the packaging was better!

I wonder if it is not only sun damage only, but maybe all the toxin that we put in our bodies. Our polluted diets would seem to be a factor because I have never spent much time in the sun and have a lot of spots on my back. I recently started a whole food plant based diet and many things change over time. Weight loss, constipation went away, inflammation in hands and joints went away. Keep in mind many people are on pharmaceutical drugs and these more serious ones look like the body is expelling toxins out of skins (largest organ).
It would be interesting to see what the biopsy is composed of.

At minute 59- surprise for many people that disappearance of pigment to the skin is a “color” change in a mole (or other skin difference other than a mole, visible on the skin). Many melanomas displayed in this lecture appeared very innocuous including when comp pared to the less dangerous skin cancers. Melanoma is very mysterious, as it often is attacked by the immune system and then on autopsy one finds brain tumors that are melanoma but there is no visible lesion or odd mole any longer (if ever?) to be found on the skin. Similar to the oddity of finding melanoma on skin still but only on bottom of feet or between toes (maybe immmune system attacked successfully partly - PARTLY- elsewhere on the skin earlier in life but it had spread so is found in such surprising places whether skin or only inside eg the end-stafe commonplace sad growth of brain tumors made of melanoma cells). Good lecture: I’d only have added more on people with skin “of color”- all the slides shown were or white (Caucasian) people but anyone of any race can get melanoma.
