Wow, I saw him Singing Shop Around on the Same Telecast. Thanks so much for finding it. This Song was actually inspired by Sam Cooke's "Bring It All Home To Me". Marv Tarplin was overall the "6th Miracle". Although he worked with Smokey he wasn't an actual Group Member. He actually worked with The Pre Supremes Group The Primettes and when Diana Ross (Smokey's Former Neighbor) cajoled him into getting an audition with Motown, he was "their" Guitar Player. He left them to work with Smokey Co Wrote alot of Hits and worked his way up to being his Musical Director. Also The Show as you know is from "Where The Action Is". I recognize The Dancers. They "Danced" in Back of so many artists from Aretha Franklin (Smokey's Childhood Buddy), Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons and Marvin Gaye amongst others.

MARV TARPLIN *was* an actual member of The Miracles. He was mentioned as such on the liner notes of their very FIRST album, *"HI...WE'RE THE MIRACLES* in 1961 and actually joined the group in 1958. Yes, he was recruited from the Primettes, but, on the Miracles' 2006 DVD, "The DEFINITIVE PERFORMANCES", Smokey, Bobby, and Pete said that Marv "wanted to stay with us." He didn't have to, but he wanted to. And in 2012, Marv was *inducted* with the rest of the original Miracles into *The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame* That wouldn't have happened if he hadn't been a MEMBER. Proof? Here's the MIRACLES 2012 ROCK & ROLL HALL of FAME INDUCTION PLAQUE in Cleveland. Note the NAMES of the INDUCTEES...

sorry but I was referring to group members who could be seen in clip but will add Claudette as often many groups lip synced to their tunes back then hence hearing Claudette who was a member and married to Smokey then.

While Smokey modeled the song after Sam Cooke and Lou Rawls on Bring It On Home To Me, Smokey is the sole composer. Sam Cooke did not write it.
The original late '62-early '63 recording is playing! The video has to be from late '64 or possibly early '65!

Their name should have NEVER been changed. WHY?
1) It gave later fans the MISTAKEN IMPRESSION that SMOKEY
was a SOLO artist, and the REST of the Miracles were just BACKUPS for HIM.
(totally UNTRUE...They were ALL Miracles...including SMOKEY)
2) EVERYBODY ALREADY KNEW who the lead singer of The Miracles was, anyway. Why broadcast it?

Bobby Rogers is Claudette's Cousin. Bobby's Brother Sonny was in The Group and Claudette "replaced" him. Here's an eerie fact. Bobby & Smokey were both born on February 19th 1940 but because Smokey was born with blue eyes, and blond hair they put him in The White Nursery. Had not happened both Smokey & Bobby would have ended up in the nursery next to each other. Also February 19th 1985 was the debut of the UK Soap Opera Eastenders. A Couple of years ago The Cast Members did a salute to Motown. In November alot of actors actresses do Specials to raise money for Children in Need.
Least favorite song of this group. I think Smokey was better at producing, singing duets, or writing than he was at performing with the Miracles.
