Oh wow..I am so glad I finally learned the title of this classic just this weekend. I'm in my 50's and always loved this song from the moment I first heard it over 40 years ago. Barbara Harris such a unique and pretty singing voice.
This song was used in the movie 'Mr Holland's Opus'. The story of a music teacher trying to teach his teenage students the value of classical music . They yawned & sighed their way through the Bach original ..boring ,boring , so he played this & as it was top of the pops at the time the students were over the moon. "Oh sir, we know that song..." Suddenly classical music took on a whole new meaning. I reckon the world needs more Mr Holland's in classrooms around the world.. Peggy Wood (Aotearoa)
@@BroadwayriahBritish Colonies is right...extremely popular in the Caribbean, remember hearing it on RJR (Radio Jamaica Rediffusion) all the time.. Also heard it on Radio Caroline in England, a pirate station based in the North Sea as well..and it was played at Northern Soul Clubs in the north of England. I can still sing every word!....long ago days, long ago memories.
also the lead singer is the shortest. during live performances they usually have the lead singer, if they’re short, on either end with the tallest being in the middle.
I remember this song from the 60s as a teenager. It is perfect, especially since it is so romantic, and is a rework of Johann Sebastian Bach's Minuet (in G, I believe). Bach has always been my absolute favourite composer! I've recently introduced it to a couple of my granddaughters, ages 26 and 9.5. They too just adore it, and walk around singing it aloud throughout the day (especially the youngest). Perhaps someday we can perform it as a trio...somewhere!
This song gives me goosebumps! Loved the song then, in such an innocent time... And, today too! Gotta love Bach! Opps, my mistake. Sorry, it was composed by Christian Petzold..... Always loved the song, always will! It does give me goose bumps still!
Reminds me of my first girlfriend and the magic of innocent first love. A few years later I was in "Nam and the innocence was gone....but still remembered.
I love this song so much! I had asked my mom who sings this song back when I was teenager playing clarinet and trumpet in a high school band. She could not remember because their band was not popular. At my age-now of 44, I wished I had internet back then to find out - because this song never gets old I loved to see the lead singer giving the coronet/piano player the "square perimeter" meaning dork? Well that is me- being the band dork- playing a wind instrument.

Thank you for this lovely video. I remember this song. My sister had the record. She's in her 70's now. The piano player/horn player/ conductor is amazing as well.
Barbara Harris is 79 today-she was the lead singer of the Toys. "In September of 1965 a record was released on the DynaVoice label that was to become an international, all-time classic. "A LOVERS CONCERTO" by "THE TOYS" entered the charts and in just six short weeks surpassed luminaries the likes of "THE BEATLES, THE SUPREMES, ELVIS PRESLEY, THE ROLLING STONES, THE FOUR TOPS, STEVIE WONDER" etc.. The song reached NUMBER ONE , becoming a million seller. The voice singing lead, was that of Barbara Harris."
I saw them twice"live" on stage at world famous Apollo Theater on NYC and Brooklyn Fox Theatre downtown Brooklyn WOW! ....I was 15 yrs olde,...wow! Those were the days!
American dakinis. 'dakinis' is a sanskrit word meaning celestial young ladies. I was in prison in SE Asia for over a year (the only English speaker, each inmate had 7 sq.ft. of concrete floor/16 hrs/day), and I would hum this song, and it would bring a welling of love in by breast, and a few tears of joy. My story in an illustrated e-book: '1 Pill = 28 Years.'
It has always been there along with all the other beautiful love songs from the past but drowned out by technology like auto-tune; acting performance over vocals; and choreography over singing. And by the mere fact that they are not new and current.
i was a small kid when this came out 3 or 4 but heard it paly on the radio alot and it was played alot in 66 and 67 also diana ross covered it but can not match the toys. it is ashame the toys did not have tghe fame the supremes did and i htink they were just as good as any of gthe black girl groups of the mid sixties.

A beautiful song
The beginning sounds like Stop In The Name Of Love. Did they ever do Where The Action Is or American Bandstand.
I love that movie! Managed to track it down years ago at HMV.
#1 and a million seller.
2024.....What a song. Still touches me. All the love gone by, yet this song so dedicated. Thanks for the post.
15 July 2024
Every time I hear this song, tears come out. I don't know why, I just love this song.
Barbara never lost her voice. She had a great performance in 2018.
I just had the privilege of seeing her sing this song last night. She still sounds exactly the same.
The tall one in the middle wow nice rhythm pretty girl
Always loved this song. Still sounds good today. 2022. ❤
Just quite simply .one of the greatest pop songs ever ….timeless classic

Paradigm shift! All it takes to move the world from its inertia and darkness
Wowww. This is Phenomenal. I’ve watched the video 3 times already. Such great memories. They don’t make em like this anymore. ❤
RUR. Amen to that!
that's all we are left with CARRIE...MEMORIES...stay well lol
Have always loved this song! Graduated from high school in 1965. Also grateful to JS Bach!
This was a huge hit when it came out, heard everywhere.
It was very popular here in Asia back then, especially in the British colonies. One of the few songs that pioneered Western musical influence here

The Toys, 3 wonderful girls, who sing this song so beautiful and with passion. Bravo
Brilliant song, performed equally well. What a great decade the sixties were for music.
Beautiful. I love how the lead singer Barbara Harris lets one of the backups take center stage at the end. You'd never see Diana Ross do that.

Barbara Harris still sounds great today in 2022 & is a very gracious woman.
@@juliusfreeman8579 does She still do Shows I'd definitely love to see her do a live Show.
I really agree with you I’m the fan of Florence Ballard and what Diana did is unfair.
You go
And still this song is going stronger than ever.
A timeless hit indeed!
@@Broadwayriah takes us back to the very begining of change in every way
And so is Ms. Barbara Harris, who in the years 2022, still sounds GREAT!
Beautiful song, amazing lyrics and performance. Arguably, the best love song ever! Thank you also to JS Bach
This song ALWAYS gives me chills ever since I was a young girl…those voices…angelic IMHO. ❤️
Excellent !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The singing is superb. The band is awesome. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Toys.
At songs end they sound like a choir! Ck out their album,.,.I still own the 33 1/3 plastic!
Even HS Bach would move to this version! Flawless 💯
I just love this song. My Dad bought me this 45 as a child and I’d play it over and over.
I was about 13 when this was in the u. K. Charts and became a soul fan. It still sounds fresh today. Love my soul music ❤
I was 8 in 1965 and always loved her and this song.
I was 12 that's when people could sing, great memories
I was 4 ….love this song 🎶🎶
A Lover's Concerto By The Toys❤❤❤😇😇😇
Absolutely brilliant! Love how they take the mick out of the comedian pretending to play piano and trumpet :-)
Had not noticed the piano trumpet guy was fake ( watched the video many times )because he is white and so assumed genuine
Never promoted like they should have been. Great video. Thank you.
Wonderful 'wholesome' lyrics perfectly matched to 'classical' music. ❤
I was about 6 years old when this song and music came out! This song is still popular!
Grew up listening to this beautiful song. Beautiful girls.
aka"Mad Dad" Had the pleasure of seeing The Toys way back in the late 60's
at a show in the USO Club in Korat, Thailand.
I don't know where they dug this video up at but this is great
Awesome! The harmony toward the end is so heavenly!

Minuet in G Major was composed not by Bach, but instead by Christian Petzold.
Just the very words, what a very romantic song. Good, nah, great stuff coming out of the 1960s!

A Lover's Concerto By The Toys
I was living in hondureño, was 16 years old and there was also a versión in spanish. Lots of memories
Was 12 in 65. AM radio from Portland. Great song!
A classic mid 60s pop tune.
But I must admit that Mrs Miller's unique version is also worth listening to.
Heard it - never forgot it
this music to forever,
Bella música y que vivan los 60s
i've seen June around town .last time at BB King's. she is still a drop dead gorgeous lady. remarkably so
Even Diana Ross couldn't sing this as beautifully as she did!
Great Group * Great Song * Great Era.
This melody was modified from JS Bach's Minute in Gmajor..
This melody was written by Christian Petzold.
It's neat to watch the metronome on the piano tap out the exact beat of that tune. The conductor at the piano is acting very professional
This was pure 60's,folks.......end of lesson.........
It’s just great👍🇬🇧
I think she drew the square meaning we gotta get a picture of this
Like it ❤❤❤❤❤
She was sosososo bless
1:27 Up till today i am wondering why Barbara drew a square with her hands lol
I LOVE THIS SONG

Real singing!!!!!!!
She was sosososo phenomenal
The Toys are MAGICAL!
beutiful to forever
Good old Johann Sebastian Bach sure could write a pretty melody. I like that they added words to it and they sang it.
did a brilliant version of 'What's wrong with me baby'
Era muy linda la corista alta me enamoré de ella
Barbara miming host is a "square" and holding her nose at 1:27 is funny.
Love her face jesters
This is the only song that I know that the title is not even mentioned in the lyrics.
My favorite song growing up
My favorite version of Bach's Minuet In G Major!
Angelic
I ain't got time to hate . Peace n ❤
OMG I MISS MY SISTER !!
Class act!
Good memories
Teenage Memories ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I can't see past all the watermarks & graffiti...
I was going to make it a statement instead I am asking why her voice, and this song in particular elicits tears. I am just a little stoned.
