*PRAYER OF FAITH (11)*
*James 5:14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.*
*Vs 15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.*
So, what is the prayer of Faith?Observe Jesus’ words as documented by Mark.
Mark 11:23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
Vs 24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
Earlier on in that account, Jesus had spoken to a fig tree.
Vs 14 And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard [it.
Three days later as they passed by, Peter called the attention of everyone.
Vs 21 And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away.
Hear Jesus’ response summarised below.
“…whosoever shall Say...”
“…shall not doubt…”
“…but shall believe…”
“…the things which he saith…”
“…he shall have whatsoever he saith…”
Verse 24 “... Therefore…”
Therefore what?
He gave us a principle in verse 23 that becomes applicable in Verse 24.
Vs 23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
Vs 24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive [them,] and ye shall have [them.]
In other words, if you say the things in your mouth and don’t doubt, you will have what you say. Note that faith can work without prayer but prayer cannot work without faith. That means we can say without praying but we cannot pray without speaking or saying.
Based on this, he lays a foundation for prayer. “What things soever you desire when you pray, believe that you receive, you shall have” (verse 24).
That means in the place of prayer I must expect to receive. This is the prayer of faith.
Confession:
Prayer involves asking and receiving. When I pray, I expect to receive answers. I therefore believe that I receive and I have, AMEN
