What a sublime performance! Very true as Petrarca Sonnet 123: "I beheld on earth angelic grace.." Thank you so much for sharing this beauty, Bernhard! So kind!

I’ve been working on this piece for a little while now and I’ve listened to a lot of recordings. I think your elegant interpretation is very consistent with how Liszt marked the score. It can be turned into bravura in places by making rapid accelerations but I don’t see that Liszt is asking for that. It’s a beautiful, delicate and contemplative piece with some more urgent sections. I am also trying to bring this authenticity to my own performance (which sadly, as always, will be recorded on my trusty upright on a less trusty iPhone !). I do wish Liszt had marked the arpeggios in the last line as bottom to top instead of bottom and top in parallel . I may just have to “misread” those 😳

Very distorted at my end. Was this mastered?

Sounds most beautiful at my end. The level was a little high compared to other video. I did have to turn the volume down a tad from my usual level, but once I did, I felt the sound recording, mixing, and mastering were sublime. I suspect the sound was mastered as close to 0 dB as possible, vs. -3 dB as many other videos might have been. Also, I think the close-range microphones captured very nuanced "growling" of the low end a lot more than usually heard on other videos, something we are not used to. I am also guessing that they decided not to scoop out the mid-low when mixing & mastering as many others do to reduce the "muddy" perception, which I am glad they did because I think it sounds more "true". The combination of all those above might have contributed to your distorted perception. It's just perfect for me.

Thank you for that explanation - I am not an expert on this myself, I can only say that my sound engineers brought the sound to perfection.
