I started hearing a noise when opening the Fold 4 if I had it closed for awhile on day 6. I immediately decided to send the whole bundle back for a refund. I then ordered the iPhone 14 Pro Max (My first ever iPhone) and am less than patiently waiting for it to arrive next month. I'm a little sad to give up my fully paid and unlocked S22 Ultra for only $370 credit, but Samsung already lost my faith when they hid from us the breach they experienced. I know everybody is dealing with breaches right now but the fact that Samsung does not encrypt any of our information and how lackidasical their attitudes are about it is what finally gave me the push to try IOS. My next challenge is getting over the prices and subscription models on the Apple app store.
It's always sad to see this happen, but it doesn't really change how I feel about foldables overall... if I'mma judge off an individual experience, I'd have to judge by how my Z Fold 3 lasted a whole year of non-stop use. Hope Samsung takes care of you on this.
I've waited through three generations, and finally pulled the trigger on a Fold 4. Whenever you add complexity and moving parts, there's a greater likelihood of failure. Let's put it this way: I bought my Fold 4 EXPECTING to have a problem before my yearly trade-in, but HOPING that I don't. In other words, I'm a pessimist hoping for the best. If it breaks, I won't be surprised; if it doesn't, I'll be ecstatic. Regardless, I don't trust the complexity enough, so I am carrying that insurance, should I decide to keep it for two years.
CJ I’ll definitely be waiting for an update on your experience with Samsung Customer Service. I had to swap out my Fold 4 at Best Buy because a bulge was coming up from the screen. I was sad to go to the iPhone 14 Pro Deep Purple. 😢

I had my flip for 3 weeks now and so far I’m good…so I would take it as it was just a defective. I had other phones in the past that wasn’t a foldable and it bricked on me a month after I got it and just stopped working. My husband had that too with a non foldable phone, non Samsung ..it just stopped working. So it’s not just flip or fold thing…it’s all tech and unfortunately malfunctions will happen.
I was learning towards a fold or flip phone but seeing another video about the side effects makes you have reservations about getting these phones. Yes those guys on TH-cam getting those media packages aren't going to tell you the whole truth about the unit without facing any consequences. Enjoy your TH-cam videos very informative and honest
I bought my FLip 4 in August 2022 and the same thing happened. My bottom screen worked, but not the top touch screen, this phone was an upgrade from an pervious Flip.. Had to run out and purchase another phone to transfer data before the black fold got larger than 3+". So sad loved the flip concept. Sent phone to Samsung because under the 1 year warranty. Will wait and see how they make this bad situation right.. I got stuck in the NOTE fire saga hopefully this is not a repeat.
I resent my phone with a new ticket number after it was returned unrepaired. I resent back with a revised ticket stating LEC malfunction. Sent phone back to Samsung with new number stating device under warranty. Another email from Samsung that stated screen cracked totally false and a repair fee of $237.00. I paid, but lost all respect for Samsung standing behind their products. Big business continues to cheat and force you to pay the extended warranty fee, is really the key to their strategy. So very SAD.
I am on my 4th phone that broke that way in warranty. I baby the phone switched cases and even jobs. I thought it was the dirt I worked around. They still break. For no reason I can think of.
Much respect for making a video talking about your experience. Keep us posted on the Samsung support experience, I think that would also be good documentation to present to the public. Sorry this happened with your Flip, especially this early into the Flip cycle.

Just ordered one from rent a center . I wanna test it out . But I gotta be honest the amount of issues online I’m seeing with every single foldable phone is scary. I’m an Apple fanatic but I like innovation. So I’m gonna give it a try and see . Fingers crossed

I had EXACTLY the same issue with my Z flip 4. One month after getting it, have had it in a case, very careful with it, no drops etc. Very disappointing
I bought my Flip 4 after watching durability tests and drop tests and people swearing its durable and suprisingly strong. Unfortunately my phone fell for the first time after having it for 4 days and the hinge broke. It had Samsungs case on it too. I dont know if I was just unlucky and had got a faulty device to begin with, but one drop and bam. Broken. Doesnt go under warranty. Repair 660€. Thankfully I have insurance.
I just had this happen to me yesterday! And they want to blame it on me but I'm still fighting it. They want to charge me $540 to repair! If and when I get it repaired, I will trade it in immediately and preorder the S23. Going back to regular phones... I was excited as well but dang, for my phone to last 3 to 4 months only with minor drops with a case... and no dents to the phone and for this to malfunction... that's crazy! My wife had to get her hinge repiared about a month ago so hers malfuntioned quicker! At least they covered it for free but it will still be a pain to get this replaced every few months even if they do it for free.
The exact same thing just happened to my partner with this phone and Samsung won’t take responsibility for the issue. He only had it for 2 weeks and barely used it :(
Hi CJ, I had same prob after 3 weeks. I was able to take mine to a local Samsung Care center. They fixed it in a few hours. They were very pleasant , professional and to deal with . I really like this phone but now I can't help feeling a little buyer's remorse. Even though it's all new again, I still cringe every time I open it to use it. On a more hopeful note, there was a person in the care center that had an older flip phone. Said they had it for 2 years and haven't had any problems. Hoping for the same.
I didn't see this happening on a widespread basis from Samsung's older foldables, but I've seen many Flip 4s with hinge issues. It's crazy how they ended up making the new hinge worse. Right when I was thinking of getting into foldables too. I hope next year's version is better.

I think this is one of the reasons why Apple hasn’t rushed to get into the folding phone generation.. it’s obvious that this technology still isn’t perfect enough for Apple to produce millions of units to sell to the world.. can you imagine the chaos if Apple has to make a recall over broken foldable iPhones.. folding phones are so cool .. and yes they might be the future but I can still wait till Apple it’s ready.🤷🏻♂️
Thank you for this video. When I looked for video reviews - I searched to see both positive and negative sides of the device. Especially related to durability. But with (almost) all reviewers going heavily positive on flip 4, there are not real critics about durability of the device, except for lone public cases like yours. So again - thanks for this video. It restores some balance to overall reviews. I am still going for flip 4 (right now waiting for a delivery) - and I'm fully aware of risks I'm taking for choosing foldable device over my S10e. Hope I will be more lucky. Cheers and hope you fix it and return to full duty.
This is my nightmare as a long time Samsung user since the S4. They have the worst customer service and it's always a huge hassle. Having to mail your phone to them etc, when you don't have your own backup is a nightmare.
Thank you for showing me this I'm 3 weeks in and have no problems but I'm scared of it happening. The foldable phones are what attracted my eye from iphone. I recently upgraded from an iPhone 12 to the zflip 4. I haven't had any issues like this but I still have 30 days to return my phone and have to choose which phone i want for the next 2.5 years. I'm deciding between the zfold4 and iphone 14 pro max. I came from an iphone user so I'm hoping I make the right choice. But I'm still enjoying this zflip4 so idk what to do.

It is a very known issue with folds and flips. If you search in Twitter screen issue on fold or flip, there are a considerable number of tweets about this and with comments having similar problem. Most tech people don’t use single device for longer time that’s why it’s not that noticeable on TH-cam videos. Basically we are just their beta testers who are giving over $1000 for beta testing. If fold or flip sales figure was as good as iPhone 6, it could become another bendgate or break gate whatever. Because more and more people then start to notice it.
This is confirmation for me..I went into the store to get this phone yesterday and the rep was hesitant and told me to absolutely not buy this phone for this exact reason..he said he wasn't confident that I wouldn't get the black line down the seam and if it was to happen..I would end up a refurbished phone and thats not fair to me after spending so much money so I walked put of the store pouting but was truly thankful 4 the honesty
Hey CJ , My whole family has been using these flip phones from Samsung for ages right from the flip 1. My Wife is still using the first flip 1 , My daughter having Flip 3 and I have been using Flip 4 . We have never faced any sort of issues on any of them . I was astounded to hear abt your experience. My wife who is using FLIP 1 still appreciates the same for its durability.... Hats off to Samsung ...We all have bought the Flip Phones from Samsung because it is really a head turner.
I'm thinking about getting the Flip 4, so it sounds like you would recommend it? When I went to my carrier to talk about a new phone, the two representatives there told me not to get the flip four because there have been issues with screens and repairs from Samsung. They told me about a guy who put in a ticket, and sent his phone in for repair, and when he got it back, it was returned with the screen already broken.
You straight.. it's still on warranty. I just sent my buds2 pros in. They just stopped charging after like 5 days of heavy use. Haven't got them back yet but they took them back without any fight.
Completely right, I think the problem is in the doubled width of the UTG and of course, the main problem is how they implemented the closure, it's too tight,unlike other foldables(and this problem crated another problem which is the crease). I have the fold 4 and it's nerve-wracking when it closes you can see it's ready to reach the breaking /stress point that I am literally Scared to use it closed....I'm using it open and I advise every flip/fold user to use it openly and trade it in for the fold 5(if it will eventually have all issues fixed or else switch to another foldable brand).
The reviews I've seen on Samsung's website have been mentioning this issue. A lot of them say that it happened when one of the prongs on the side gets caught under the screen and breaks it when the phone flexes. I've really been considering getting a folding phone, but things like this scare the heck out of me, cuz I do deliveries through a popular food delivery app, so my livelihood is on my phone. I really can't go without it even for just a few days. The only thing that makes me reconsider DESPITE the potential issues is that my old phone, though somewhat unreliable at this point, does still technically work. Well enough for me to continue delivering at least. I still think I'm going to wait for generation 5, and hope that Samsung learns and improves in the meantime.
My zflip 3 started bleeding from the corner today without being dropped at all, I love this flip phone so much, it's sad to switch back to regular phone
The same happened to my galaxy fold 3 after just 6 months. I rarely use the inner screen unless i am watching media. I called Samsung care and they just instructed me to go to one of their repair shops and when I went and asked for explanation. I was told it was due to overuse. Really? Overuse? They fixed the screen for free since it was still under warranty. Yeah i am trading this phone asap this week. It was good journey until it lasted. Apparently a lot of people are having this as well. Oh great, the one time I decided to be an early adopter... I only use mine lightly, and have had no problems so far, but who knows for how long. I'm just glad I didn't trade in my S9+ in case I need a backup.
I've had my Fold 4 for 3 weeks with no issues so far. BUT I did keep my Note 20 Ultra, and just do EIP payments through my carrier. I always keep my old devices "just in case" so that I'll never be out of a phone if something goes wrong.
I picked up a flip 4 a week ago and ended up returning it today. Its a cool thing that catches everyone's eye. I also liked the folded front display for music control at the gym. Beyond that the flip wasn't for me in day to day use, and the extra long narrow screen and thin build made it feel somewhat awkward in the hand. Final nail in the coffin was cases and wanting to use a magnetic plate for a phone mount. I ended up returning it to my carrier and ordered a S22 and watch 5 pro directly through Samsung with their financing partner.
We have had a flip4 foir 48hrs before hinge part of screen has been grey and top not working, this is a seriuos design fllor, wish i had seen this video first
This EXACT issue has just happened to me after 4 months. I've never dropped the phone or mishandled it in any way, the phone is pristine, other than the screen. Just sent it off to Samsung...let's see what they say!
@@mmgnz had the same issue and went into the Samsung shop and they were fine they said no problem and said we can tell its not been dropped and sent it off for repair and got it back about 4 days later from the store. (pretty sure its a new phone and not repaired)

I purchased my Zflip 4 in August 2022. I took it to Best Buy yesterday as they are authorized service center. I have the samsung care plus as well. After discussion between Geek Squad employees, I was handed the phone back, recommending I go to Samsung directly. Actually the employeee, told me he sees this problem daily. Had to send my Flip 5g to Samsung TWICE to fix the screen. Luckily at the time they were fixing foldable display issues for free but I don't know if that's the case anymore. I now have a Fold 3 and am just praying this thing surives!
Happened on my well used zflip 3. Replaced it with a zflip4. If it happens to you and you want to control the screen you can plug your desktop keyboard into the phone and control it that way.
My top screen is unresponsive and the folding line Is all black like dead pixels and there's a white line that goes from the folding line to the top and got it last and August
Im sorry this happened to. I have just received my flip 4. Its a bespoke edition. Thank you for sharing. I definitely a samgung supporter. I definitely hope and pray that they do right and fix this issue.
I'm still using my Z flip 3 since three months after launch with no issues. Original screen protector has swirl marks on it and it's time to replace it.🤔
My Z flip 4 has just gone in to be repaired. Same thing happened. Although I got mine in August 2022. These phones need to be opened a lot more than the z fold 4 because the outside screen is so tiny and unusable for most things. You'd think after 4 iterations they would get it right....wrong!!!
My display failed last week. On my flip 4 replacement currently. The phone would not open all the way. No other damage or issue. Looking forward to getting to the S23 Ultra. I need tried and true durability. The S21 Ultra was the best phone I've ever had.
With my z flip 3 they repaired 3xs & every time they fixed something new happened. Once i got back i had to ship it out the same day. They ended up refunded me.

I had the same problem exactly 3 weeks after using my flip 4 a dark circle appeared and 2 days later it expanded on all the screen and now the screen is all damaged . I am so disapointed
I appreciate you sharing your thoughts but you probably should have taken a moment to decompress before making this video. I hear more agitation than sound reasoning, which is rare coming from you. I understand where you're coming from, but you make several assumptions about the hinge being the cause of your problem, when it literally could be numerous things. I hope this gets resolved fast. Honestly it's a RAW video made in the moment to preserve transparency...It's exactly how I felt as a consumer the day of the issue and day after...also I was sick and it's literally how I felt. I'm hoping for the best in customer service and I will update soon as to how it's handled....
I got the Z flip phone 7 months ago. Love it - no issues until last week when I started hearing a click when I opened it. Today I got the black line across the fold and the top half of the screen is not working. Hoping it covered under manufacturer warranty. 🙏🏻
it is so frustrating! first had the z3. Admittedly I dropped it and broke a hinge then the screen lifted making the phone inoperable. I tried again with the z3. did not drop the new one and after a few months the screen started to lift again. decided to upgrade to the 4 due to new hinge and only after a few months the screen lifted again across the crease. didnt drop it or damage it in any way. i gave up.
Sony Ericsson had a flip phone at 1 time and it also was breaking ALL THE TIME!! It just is not a good idea as the constant opening/closing just breaks the hinges/wires!!
Exactly the same thing happened to be...started as slight bulge on hinge...then hinge wouldn't open all the way to become flat...then top half of screen wouldn't work to touch...then a black shadow started growing which eventually covered entire screen. Sent for repairs under warranty. They stated on repair email that the "symptom: Power". That explanation doesn't make much sense. I think there's more to it especially when others have the same issue. I don't have a great deal of confidence that this device will last outside of the warranty period. Disappointing.

Thank you for this video! I just bought my phone, or traded my Flip 3 in on it, two months ago. I woke up to a bubbly line across the fold one morning. Later in the day the "inking" stuff was emanating from the that area and then the screen wouldn't respond to touch. The local Repair Center couldn't repair it because of defective parts. I had to send it to Samsung. I got a notice this morning that they are charging me $237 to repair it. Oh, heck no!
Same thing happend to me and I got charged for it too. Did you pay for it or did you argue with them? I honestly can't believe they make us pay for that
It is not untypical. My wife's Z Flip 3 did exactly the same thing - cracked along the crease and the upper part is no longer working. Which is not a big problem because you can't see it almost at all due to the black liquid crystal spilt almost around the whole screen now... What a piece of cr..p technology it appeared to be...
My wife has exactly the same issue as you have. Been searching on google and TH-cam and found your video. Very disappointing. Y it was fine, today it started and it has gone to the point where it is unusable today. We will aee how Samsung handles this. I remember telling my wife that the Flip 4 looks like a decent device and surely it works because there have been 3 Flip versions before it. Thanks for your honesty!
I had the zflip 3 for over a year - i got the screen damaged and tmobile sent me a zflip 4 - not even 2 weeks later the zflip 4 snapped just like yours however there was a purple streak going fully up and down the right hand side of the screen
I know no one wants to hear this when their products breaks but defects happen. It all up to Samsung on how they handle these situations when they do happen. Been using mine like crazy whipping it open and handling like normal and no issues. I hope customer service does the right thing by you.
I've actually been having issues with the hinge and had to replace my last flip4 because of hinge issues taking my screen out. I have been taking care of my replacement but I simply opened it today and the hinge snapped and the screen went out again. Like you said, its sad because I've been rooting for this phone and the hinge issues are really really frustrating and making me upset. my sister has been wanting me to switch to iphone so bad but I really don't want to. But all this money I'm spending on this phone is getting to be too much,

Glad I sent mine back. I was seeing too many folks having issues with the z flip. It even worse seeing some folks on Reddit having issues with the claims to get their screens fixed. Thinking I may go back to the slab.
Like anything..You can have a defective device..It doesn't make it a bad product....Samsung will either replace it or give you your money back...Don't put people off buying it just because of your bad luck..

I'm feeling you man... had mine for three months and it broke suddenly, stripe in the middle, bleeding and I now only have like 10% visible on screen. Now trying to recover data since I hadn't activated my cloud backup. Can't use HDMI screen mirroring on the phone (the phone doesn't support it...), DeX doesn't work... so I'm screwed. This will be one hell of a mad angry letter to Samsung. Hope they can help out, no insurance etc. because I had faith in a € 1.000,- phone of the 4th itteration. Big mistake.
They need to stop putting that thin glass over the oled panel that's the problem that thin ass glass gone keep breaking the screens I got a fold 4 when I put it in my pocket I shake my pockets out because literally any type of pocket dirt will kill these phones keep it in a clean pocket by its self and you gotta make sure Nothing is on the screen when you closing it a little bit of dirt or a hair follicle will kill the screen that ain't break by its self you gotta be extra very careful with these foldables

I started hearing a noise when opening the Fold 4 if I had it closed for awhile on day 6. I immediately decided to send the whole bundle back for a refund. I then ordered the iPhone 14 Pro Max (My first ever iPhone) and am less than patiently waiting for it to arrive next month. I'm a little sad to give up my fully paid and unlocked S22 Ultra for only $370 credit, but Samsung already lost my faith when they hid from us the breach they experienced. I know everybody is dealing with breaches right now but the fact that Samsung does not encrypt any of our information and how lackidasical their attitudes are about it is what finally gave me the push to try IOS. My next challenge is getting over the prices and subscription models on the Apple app store.
It's always sad to see this happen, but it doesn't really change how I feel about foldables overall... if I'mma judge off an individual experience, I'd have to judge by how my Z Fold 3 lasted a whole year of non-stop use.
Hope Samsung takes care of you on this.
I've waited through three generations, and finally pulled the trigger on a Fold 4. Whenever you add complexity and moving parts, there's a greater likelihood of failure.
Let's put it this way: I bought my Fold 4 EXPECTING to have a problem before my yearly trade-in, but HOPING that I don't. In other words, I'm a pessimist hoping for the best. If it breaks, I won't be surprised; if it doesn't, I'll be ecstatic.
Regardless, I don't trust the complexity enough, so I am carrying that insurance, should I decide to keep it for two years.
CJ I’ll definitely be waiting for an update on your experience with Samsung Customer Service. I had to swap out my Fold 4 at Best Buy because a bulge was coming up from the screen. I was sad to go to the iPhone 14 Pro Deep Purple. 😢

I feel for you CJ! Insurance is a crazy thing. People pay for it hoping that they never need to use it.
Insurance shouldn't even need to come in play after a couple of weeks, manufacturer warranty is what should cover this.
ATT told me it would have to be warranty thru Samsung for this same issue I came in with. Samsung is not handling it well for me.

I had my flip for 3 weeks now and so far I’m good…so I would take it as it was just a defective. I had other phones in the past that wasn’t a foldable and it bricked on me a month after I got it and just stopped working. My husband had that too with a non foldable phone, non Samsung ..it just stopped working. So it’s not just flip or fold thing…it’s all tech and unfortunately malfunctions will happen.
I was learning towards a fold or flip phone but seeing another video about the side effects makes you have reservations about getting these phones. Yes those guys on TH-cam getting those media packages aren't going to tell you the whole truth about the unit without facing any consequences. Enjoy your TH-cam videos very informative and honest
I bought my FLip 4 in August 2022 and the same thing happened. My bottom screen worked, but not the top touch screen, this phone was an upgrade from an pervious Flip.. Had to run out and purchase another phone to transfer data before the black fold got larger than 3+". So sad loved the flip concept. Sent phone to Samsung because under the 1 year warranty. Will wait and see how they make this bad situation right.. I got stuck in the NOTE fire saga hopefully this is not a repeat.
I resent my phone with a new ticket number after it was returned unrepaired. I resent back with a revised ticket stating LEC malfunction. Sent phone back to Samsung with new number stating device under warranty. Another email from Samsung that stated screen cracked totally false and a repair fee of $237.00. I paid, but lost all respect for Samsung standing behind their products. Big business continues to cheat and force you to pay the extended warranty fee, is really the key to their strategy. So very SAD.

I am on my 4th phone that broke that way in warranty. I baby the phone switched cases and even jobs. I thought it was the dirt I worked around. They still break. For no reason I can think of.
My brother inlaw is on his 3rd phone. He doesn't have a case and is rough on them

Just ordered one from rent a center . I wanna test it out . But I gotta be honest the amount of issues online I’m seeing with every single foldable phone is scary. I’m an Apple fanatic but I like innovation. So I’m gonna give it a try and see . Fingers crossed

I had EXACTLY the same issue with my Z flip 4. One month after getting it, have had it in a case, very careful with it, no drops etc. Very disappointing

I bought my Flip 4 after watching durability tests and drop tests and people swearing its durable and suprisingly strong. Unfortunately my phone fell for the first time after having it for 4 days and the hinge broke. It had Samsungs case on it too. I dont know if I was just unlucky and had got a faulty device to begin with, but one drop and bam. Broken. Doesnt go under warranty. Repair 660€. Thankfully I have insurance.

I just had this happen to me yesterday! And they want to blame it on me but I'm still fighting it. They want to charge me $540 to repair!
If and when I get it repaired, I will trade it in immediately and preorder the S23. Going back to regular phones...
I was excited as well but dang, for my phone to last 3 to 4 months only with minor drops with a case... and no dents to the phone and for this to malfunction... that's crazy!
My wife had to get her hinge repiared about a month ago so hers malfuntioned quicker! At least they covered it for free but it will still be a pain to get this replaced every few months even if they do it for free.

Hi CJ, I had same prob after 3 weeks. I was able to take mine to a local Samsung Care center. They fixed it in a few hours. They were very pleasant , professional and to deal with . I really like this phone but now I can't help feeling a little buyer's remorse. Even though it's all new again, I still cringe every time I open it to use it. On a more hopeful note, there was a person in the care center that had an older flip phone. Said they had it for 2 years and haven't had any problems. Hoping for the same.

I didn't see this happening on a widespread basis from Samsung's older foldables, but I've seen many Flip 4s with hinge issues. It's crazy how they ended up making the new hinge worse. Right when I was thinking of getting into foldables too. I hope next year's version is better.

That's what I'm thinking. I have gone through the video several times and paused but I can't find the screen protector lines on the sides.
I have been using my Flip 4 for 1 month now, and I'm pretty happy with it. There have been no issues with mine yet. You need to replace yours
I think this is one of the reasons why Apple hasn’t rushed to get into the folding phone generation.. it’s obvious that this technology still isn’t perfect enough for Apple to produce millions of units to sell to the world.. can you imagine the chaos if Apple has to make a recall over broken foldable iPhones.. folding phones are so cool .. and yes they might be the future but I can still wait till Apple it’s ready.🤷🏻♂️

When I looked for video reviews - I searched to see both positive and negative sides of the device. Especially related to durability.
But with (almost) all reviewers going heavily positive on flip 4, there are not real critics about durability of the device, except for lone public cases like yours. So again - thanks for this video. It restores some balance to overall reviews.
I am still going for flip 4 (right now waiting for a delivery) - and I'm fully aware of risks I'm taking for choosing foldable device over my S10e.

This is my nightmare as a long time Samsung user since the S4. They have the worst customer service and it's always a huge hassle. Having to mail your phone to them etc, when you don't have your own backup is a nightmare.

Thank you for showing me this I'm 3 weeks in and have no problems but I'm scared of it happening. The foldable phones are what attracted my eye from iphone. I recently upgraded from an iPhone 12 to the zflip 4. I haven't had any issues like this but I still have 30 days to return my phone and have to choose which phone i want for the next 2.5 years. I'm deciding between the zfold4 and iphone 14 pro max. I came from an iphone user so I'm hoping I make the right choice. But I'm still enjoying this zflip4 so idk what to do.

It is a very known issue with folds and flips. If you search in Twitter screen issue on fold or flip, there are a considerable number of tweets about this and with comments having similar problem. Most tech people don’t use single device for longer time that’s why it’s not that noticeable on TH-cam videos.
Basically we are just their beta testers who are giving over $1000 for beta testing. If fold or flip sales figure was as good as iPhone 6, it could become another bendgate or break gate whatever. Because more and more people then start to notice it.

This is confirmation for me..I went into the store to get this phone yesterday and the rep was hesitant and told me to absolutely not buy this phone for this exact reason..he said he wasn't confident that I wouldn't get the black line down the seam and if it was to happen..I would end up a refurbished phone and thats not fair to me after spending so much money so I walked put of the store pouting but was truly thankful 4 the honesty
Hey CJ , My whole family has been using these flip phones from Samsung for ages right from the flip 1. My Wife is still using the first flip 1 , My daughter having Flip 3 and I have been using Flip 4 . We have never faced any sort of issues on any of them . I was astounded to hear abt your experience. My wife who is using FLIP 1 still appreciates the same for its durability.... Hats off to Samsung ...We all have bought the Flip Phones from Samsung because it is really a head turner.
I'm thinking about getting the Flip 4, so it sounds like you would recommend it? When I went to my carrier to talk about a new phone, the two representatives there told me not to get the flip four because there have been issues with screens and repairs from Samsung. They told me about a guy who put in a ticket, and sent his phone in for repair, and when he got it back, it was returned with the screen already broken.

Have you tried re-start/boot it? Clear the phone of the stuff you installed, take the sim out, start over.

You straight.. it's still on warranty. I just sent my buds2 pros in. They just stopped charging after like 5 days of heavy use. Haven't got them back yet but they took them back without any fight.
Completely right, I think the problem is in the doubled width of the UTG and of course, the main problem is how they implemented the closure, it's too tight,unlike other foldables(and this problem crated another problem which is the crease).
I have the fold 4 and it's nerve-wracking when it closes you can see it's ready to reach the breaking /stress point that I am literally Scared to use it closed....I'm using it open and I advise every flip/fold user to use it openly and trade it in for the fold 5(if it will eventually have all issues fixed or else switch to another foldable brand).
The reviews I've seen on Samsung's website have been mentioning this issue. A lot of them say that it happened when one of the prongs on the side gets caught under the screen and breaks it when the phone flexes. I've really been considering getting a folding phone, but things like this scare the heck out of me, cuz I do deliveries through a popular food delivery app, so my livelihood is on my phone. I really can't go without it even for just a few days. The only thing that makes me reconsider DESPITE the potential issues is that my old phone, though somewhat unreliable at this point, does still technically work. Well enough for me to continue delivering at least. I still think I'm going to wait for generation 5, and hope that Samsung learns and improves in the meantime.

The same happened to my galaxy fold 3 after just 6 months. I rarely use the inner screen unless i am watching media. I called Samsung care and they just instructed me to go to one of their repair shops and when I went and asked for explanation. I was told it was due to overuse. Really? Overuse? They fixed the screen for free since it was still under warranty. Yeah i am trading this phone asap this week. It was good journey until it lasted. Apparently a lot of people are having this as well. I've had my Fold 4 for 3 weeks with no issues so far. BUT I did keep my Note 20 Ultra, and just do EIP payments through my carrier. I always keep my old devices "just in case" so that I'll never be out of a phone if something goes wrong.
I picked up a flip 4 a week ago and ended up returning it today. Its a cool thing that catches everyone's eye. I also liked the folded front display for music control at the gym.
Beyond that the flip wasn't for me in day to day use, and the extra long narrow screen and thin build made it feel somewhat awkward in the hand. Final nail in the coffin was cases and wanting to use a magnetic plate for a phone mount.
I ended up returning it to my carrier and ordered a S22 and watch 5 pro directly through Samsung with their financing partner.

Ive had mine barely three months and it did the exact same thing. Samsung is replacing under warranty it at no cost because its a manufacturer issue.

This EXACT issue has just happened to me after 4 months. I've never dropped the phone or mishandled it in any way, the phone is pristine, other than the screen. Just sent it off to Samsung...let's see what they say!

After discussion between Geek Squad employees, I was handed the phone back, recommending I go to Samsung directly. Actually the employeee, told me he sees this problem daily. Had to send my Flip 5g to Samsung TWICE to fix the screen. Luckily at the time they were fixing foldable display issues for free but I don't know if that's the case anymore. I now have a Fold 3 and am just praying this thing surives!

If it happens to you and you want to control the screen you can plug your desktop keyboard into the phone and control it that way.

I'm still using my Z flip 3 since three months after launch with no issues. Original screen protector has swirl marks on it and it's time to replace it.🤔
My Z flip 4 has just gone in to be repaired. Same thing happened. Although I got mine in August 2022. These phones need to be opened a lot more than the z fold 4 because the outside screen is so tiny and unusable for most things. You'd think after 4 iterations they would get it right....wrong!!!
My display failed last week. On my flip 4 replacement currently. The phone would not open all the way. No other damage or issue. Looking forward to getting to the S23 Ultra. I need tried and true durability. The S21 Ultra was the best phone I've ever had.
With my z flip 3 they repaired 3xs & every time they fixed something new happened. Once i got back i had to ship it out the same day. They ended up refunded me.

I just upgraded the z fold 4 but was to afraid to ship back my Note 20 because if something happens to the z fold I'm f*cked with no other replacement phone in site, sadly I believe I'm gonna return it and keep my Note 20
I had the same problem exactly 3 weeks after using my flip 4 a dark circle appeared and 2 days later it expanded on all the screen and now the screen is all damaged . I am so disapointed
I appreciate you sharing your thoughts but you probably should have taken a moment to decompress before making this video. I hear more agitation than sound reasoning, which is rare coming from you. I understand where you're coming from, but you make several assumptions about the hinge being the cause of your problem, when it literally could be numerous things. I hope this gets resolved fast. Keep pushing Samsung to do better, it's needed. Much appreciated
Honestly it's a RAW video made in the moment to preserve transparency...It's exactly how I felt as a consumer the day of the issue and day after...also I was sick and it's literally how I felt. I'm hoping for the best in customer service and I will update soon as to how it's handled....

I got the Z flip phone 7 months ago. Love it - no issues until last week when I started hearing a click when I opened it. Today I got the black line across the fold and the top half of the screen is not working. Hoping it covered under manufacturer warranty. 🙏🏻

it is so frustrating! first had the z3. Admittedly I dropped it and broke a hinge then the screen lifted making the phone inoperable. I tried again with the z3. did not drop the new one and after a few months the screen started to lift again. decided to upgrade to the 4 due to new hinge and only after a few months the screen lifted again across the crease. didnt drop it or damage it in any way. i gave up.
Sony Ericsson had a flip phone at 1 time and it also was breaking ALL THE TIME!!
It just is not a good idea as the constant opening/closing just breaks the hinges/wires!!

Exactly the same thing happened to be...started as slight bulge on hinge...then hinge wouldn't open all the way to become flat...then top half of screen wouldn't work to touch...then a black shadow started growing which eventually covered entire screen. Sent for repairs under warranty. They stated on repair email that the "symptom: Power". That explanation doesn't make much sense. I think there's more to it especially when others have the same issue. I don't have a great deal of confidence that this device will last outside of the warranty period. Disappointing.
So what did they do because I'm having the same problem only had my phone for almost a month and I go open my phone and boom I can't open it 😡

Later in the day the "inking" stuff was emanating from the that area and then the screen wouldn't respond to touch. The local Repair Center couldn't repair it because of defective parts. I had to send it to Samsung. I got a notice this morning that they are charging me $237 to repair it. Oh, heck no!

It is not untypical. My wife's Z Flip 3 did exactly the same thing - cracked along the crease and the upper part is no longer working. Which is not a big problem because you can't see it almost at all due to the black liquid crystal spilt almost around the whole screen now... What a piece of cr..p technology it appeared to be...
My wife has exactly the same issue as you have. Been searching on google and TH-cam and found your video. Very disappointing. Y it was fine, today it started and it has gone to the point where it is unusable today. We will aee how Samsung handles this. I remember telling my wife that the Flip 4 looks like a decent device and surely it works because there have been 3 Flip versions before it.

I had the zflip 3 for over a year - i got the screen damaged and tmobile sent me a zflip 4 - not even 2 weeks later the zflip 4 snapped just like yours however there was a purple streak going fully up and down the right hand side of the screen
I read a report yesterday that a class action lawsuit is being considered in Greenland against Samsung for these same exact issues.

I know no one wants to hear this when their products breaks but defects happen. It all up to Samsung on how they handle these situations when they do happen. Been using mine like crazy whipping it open and handling like normal and no issues. I hope customer service does the right thing by you.
I've actually been having issues with the hinge and had to replace my last flip4 because of hinge issues taking my screen out. I have been taking care of my replacement but I simply opened it today and the hinge snapped and the screen went out again. Like you said, its sad because I've been rooting for this phone and the hinge issues are really really frustrating and making me upset. my sister has been wanting me to switch to iphone so bad but I really don't want to. But all this money I'm spending on this phone is getting to be too much,
You did the right thing by putting this out there CJ. Consumers and enthusiasts frequent TH-cam for honest reviews and user experience. Don’t sway from the truth, hold on to that! It may not be everyone’s experience but it happened, doesn’t make all Flips trash. You are just sharing your experience. You pay to play so tell your truth! 💯

Glad I sent mine back. I was seeing too many folks having issues with the z flip. It even worse seeing some folks on Reddit having issues with the claims to get their screens fixed. Thinking I may go back to the slab.

Like anything..You can have a defective device..It doesn't make it a bad product....Samsung will either replace it or give you your money back...Don't put people off buying it just because of your bad luck..

I'm feeling you man... had mine for three months and it broke suddenly, stripe in the middle, bleeding and I now only have like 10% visible on screen. Now trying to recover data since I hadn't activated my cloud backup. Can't use HDMI screen mirroring on the phone (the phone doesn't support it...), DeX doesn't work... so I'm screwed. This will be one hell of a mad angry letter to Samsung. Hope they can help out, no insurance etc. because I had faith in a € 1.000,- phone of the 4th itteration. Big mistake.

They need to stop putting that thin glass over the oled panel that's the problem that thin ass glass gone keep breaking the screens I got a fold 4 when I put it in my pocket I shake my pockets out because literally any type of pocket dirt will kill these phones keep it in a clean pocket by its self and you gotta make sure Nothing is on the screen when you closing it a little bit of dirt or a hair follicle will kill the screen that ain't break by its self you gotta be extra very careful with these foldables
