Ok so the reason for that is because you bought a jeep with it swap in OR probably have a late 95 build date which would be labeled as a 96 production year but not always. You have a jeep that was in transition years leading up to the 97 refresh year but not every update was ready. So they used up the dana 35 axles and started installing C8.25. If you get a 94 and older you will not see C8.25 from factory. Probably should have put this in video for FYI.

@@TEDDAV64 this is blatantly wrong. They used 27 spline 8.25’s from 91-96, then went to 29 spline 8.25’s 97+

I have a 4.5" lift kit. I gianed about 1/2" doing the swap with the difference in tube diameter and the perches. I set up my pinion angle at 12 degrees with the stock driveshaft and i don't have any vibrations. I have been running this set up for 8 years with no problems. I plan to do an SYE kit eventually and i don't foresee any problems with vibrations when i do.

I’m lifting my stock 01 XJ by 4.5 inches and doing the 8.8 swap this weekend.
Thank you for all this information.

I had the opposite problem with my rear brakes. They basically did nothing until i swapped the internals of the proportioning valve. After the swap i can finally stop!

Doing this on a YJ shortly. Not tacking anything until I mock up the new 8.8, new springs and new driveline with it sitting on its own weight.

I've seen assloads of pre 97s with 8.25s they just have 27 splines not 29 so a bit weaker

Wow that did not go very smoothly.
Wondering if the 8.8 from a F150 would work or be too wide?

What is the gear ratio of the Ford 8.8? How did you know it matched the gear ratio of your XJ front axle?

There is a metal tag bolted on the outside of the diff cover. You can also turn the pinion and count the revolutions of the tires, or look at the ring gear. Its stamped on the ring gear.
