Whenever I put my R-Design XC90 into Dynamic mode, the handling and responsiveness are unbelievable. I can take a highway off-ramp at 60 mph with no lean or body roll at all with the 4 corner air suspension. My work commute is mostly 25 miles of open highway and my R-Design runs 75-80 mph effortlessly with no engine strain. I'm hoping to add the Polestar software upgrade by the end of this year, so that should improve the performance even more.
I own the exact same v90 r design in the same bursting blue here in UK. R design is best styling. Great car. I had old xc 90 before love Volvo. Great video.
I just received my blue V90 T8 R-Design with Polestar last week. Love it! It's a shame that they don't make 21" tyres with high enough weight rating to carry the T8 model. So is 20" and air suspension, thus no factory lowering(R-design chassis). If I wanted the factory lowering, I'd have to settle for 19" wheels. Which looks all wrong on the R-design. But I enjoy the plush EV ride when driving to work.
I would take the R design because I value handling. BUT, I would love to get the brown interior from the Inscription in the R design. The black interior of the R design just looks too bland.
I agree with you - not a fan of the black interior. In fact, spent a lot of time talking to the product manager for the 90 cluster of cars - Anders. GREAT guy. In fact, he dailies this same car but in black. Anyway, I asked him that if the car is order only, why could one NOT spec it with other interior options. He didn't have a great honest but was at least very honest: Manufacturing complexity v number of units that would be sold. I am still going to nag him on it . . . :)
I hear you, I want the regular Inscription but with the polestar tune and the 21inch fan alloys, and the full appearance package. But in this blue with the blonde leather. I suppose if you had enough money you can have one built the exact way you want it.
Agree. Many auto makers stupidly limit interior color choices to black on sporty themed versions thinking it matters to the buyer. They're just limiting their sales. And paying extra for real leather on all surfaces? This is a $60K car in T6 awd trim, and that's pushing it with a brand that historically doesn't have good resale value.
I'd select the R Design... it's cooler than the other trim levels. Although I have to say we also own a 2016 XC-90 R Design in the same blue and we love it!
I would definitely go for the R Design. Volvos of the past (especially estates) have never looked this good. The R design essentially along with the newer volvos marks an end to an era of conservative and safe designs. I therefore could only have the R design as it looks incredible and is history in the making showing what Volvo can do. Also that blue colour is beautiful!
Definitely R design. Saw it at the Montreal auto show. Sat in it until they throw me out. Ahhh those seats and that look. Never had that feeling since the 850 turbo wagon! lol.
They needed to offer ventilated/cooled seats in the R design. Omission of that options makes this trim hard to contemplate in Las Vegas climate. 2017 CTS-V driver.
I wan't an R design in that same Bursting Blue, but with a different interior color...not a fan of black on black, and also not a fan of the fact that we can't get a wood of any sort in an R design..also would very much enjoy vented seats(tropical climate here)...My 06 Mazda6 wagon is bright blue with beige, I basically want the same color combo lol
If not the Cross Country then..... Inscription. I LOVE the R-Design, but at this price point, Ventilated Front seats are a must! I still like the Cross Country :)
I would get the inscription because of the ventilated seats. I live in florida where walking from the store out to your car leaves you in need of a shower. Cool dry air on my butt makes a big difference.
T6 R-Design: I like the overall performance focus, rather than luxury. Has anybody done the Polestar optimization for a U.S. spec car? If so, is it worth the money?
MM, you stated that the V90 is the same to the "D" pillar of the S90. As you pointed, wasn't that really the "C" pillar (third pillar back)? The "D" pillar would be the fourth one which is in the rear of this car. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Otherwise, hope all is well with you and your Acura "lady friend" who you want to get a V90. :-)
Hey Howard . . . Perhaps I was so excited about the V90 Redesign being on offer but I did indeed say 'B' pillar . . . Thanks for the kind words, she is doing well - we were driving yesterday and she thought she would be funny by pointing out a 90s era Buick Roadmaster Wagon and saying 'maybe that's what I should get' - now, that's my new goal:)
MM, me being an American Iron type of car guy, gas mileage excluded, a restored 90's Buick Roadmaster Wagon with the clamshell back door/gate, would be great. Make sure to update the powertrain with a new "crate" Chevy big block. It might even bolt right in. However, do warn the young lady that it is akin to driving a hot-rodded Winnebago motor home! I think I told you that I sold my '67 GTO a few months back. After 29 years, it was time. I did very well $$$$.
Didn't think about the Crate motor angle!!!!! Now I am even MORE excited about this prospect . . . Something tells me she won't quite see the beauty of this whole plan but wish me luck:) OH - sad to hear the news about you selling the GTO . . . You and Winkles will need to goto group therapy together:)
MotoManTV It is time to retire for me. I'd done all I was qualified to do to the Goat. It was starting to get expensive. $600+ just days before the sale for both rear axle bearings. With 29 years of fun and pride and $2,500 invested, $20,000 was a just price for it. As for you saying "d pillar", I misheard. In reviewing the video, you did say "b pillar". Party on, my friend.
anthony digangi You can option the R-Design with almost every available package as the Inscription except for the leather luxury and massage ventilation front seats. That's because of the seat materials in the R-Design (leather and nubuck).
I love the 100 series be it the boxes or the Amazon, they're sightly impossible to find in Colorado let alone for sale so I'll have to settle for a 240
I'm looking at the listings of these things on autotrader. Why is this a $70k car? They need to either cut that price significantly, or give it a lot more power.
Different strokes for different folks. I own both, and hands down, the R-Design sport seats smoke the Inscription's. Maybe it's the suede inserts or the bigger side bolsters, but they make an already great seat even better.
I got my wife a silver xc90 (sorry)r Polestar. Nimble SUV. R design for the minimalist int w the best seats I have ever sat in. Satin mesh trim, I prefer it to CF veneer. Got it CPOed w 4 miles for close to 20% off MSRP. As far as a v90 I would go hybrid polestar R for the minmalist performance easthetic. In silver or blue
I didn't listen to all of your pump on the V90 R Design. Available thru the OSD program Online Concierge Order only Lee/Westport. I just had a 2018 V90 Cross Country T5 AWD Denim Blue Amber Leather go out with 18' wheels. $56000 ish MSRP (Winning!!) More appeal here in the North East. This LUX'S sportwagen is only for a select few. All makes Volvo Audi Benz is less than 8,000 cars a year in the US OF A
I would go for the V90 Cross country anyday.. If Volvo could allow customising a Cross country with a R design for the performance and having paddle shifters & with inscription interior for comfort & a classy feel (i dont like carbon fibre interiors, its no match to wood inlays), it would be my dream car..
The vaunted infotainment system in this series of Volvos has been a major source of problems and resulted in the XC90 being one of CR's least reliable cars for 2017. One test drive and I knew it would be inconvenient, but it also seems to be unreliable.
I love the wood and don't really like carbon fiber interiors unless it's in a sports car. However, the seats in the new Volvos are a step back from the outgoing model so if the R Design seats are better and the handling is better, I value seats and dynamics over open pore wood.
your video is disorganized and with nothing linear information, it is a great effort for me to find out if you look at a momentum, inscription, D5, T6, T8 etc ... it is very different from the German channels where they are organized and have a chronological order of shows as things, if down up, back and forth, show all 360 of the car before in the car, and you go in and out all the time, it seems like a sexual act.
R design wins for exterior design, the interior style changes aren't a plus. No doubt, R design would be the only choice in a wagon due to the stiffer steel suspension. T5 fwd due to being in Florida and Georgia and the $6,000 premium for T6/awd.
Volvo hates selling Americans wagons. Why? Because to get one of these you have to order it at MSRP, then there is no loyalty rebate, so the real-world price works out to perhaps $6,000 more than the identical S90 sedan. That is pure depreciation on the back end. S90's were routinely $5K off MSRP in 2017.
They don't want to ship them over here, have them sit on the lot all year, then mark them down at end of model year. They're answering the market demand. Shame, because I like the wagon better. ON the upside, order one and you'll not likely see another one like it.
Actually, when they have R design V60's on lots, they don't last long. I have watched my local dealers waiting for them to come in. They had the passion red my wife wanted, I saw it, called her, drove home, and the next day...poof..gone. Now that they're an older design, they sit a little longer. But not when they first came out. I had to get an S60 R design instead because I had to drive 4 hours to get to a dealer that had a V60 R design. Volvo's problem is importing mundane T5 fwd versions with no sport package, usually in white, and wondering why they don't sell. They don't sell because they're $40,000 fwd so-so handling cars that depreciate like crazy. The R designs are more special cars and do better and I have tried to buy a used one for years now w/o success. Can't find any within a half day's drive. It's a product and option mix problem. A wagon is not the same as a sport wagon. Might as well pick up a VW Golf wagen for $28,000 if all you want is basic transportation.
Just sayin'...I'll take my six cylinder V60 R-Design over that beast any day for speed, looks, handling, price, and much less of a "computer on four wheels."

Great car.
I had old xc 90 before love Volvo.
Great video.
R-Design, i love the sporty athletic look. I was not priced out of the V90 R-Design... i would have that car right now.
I just received my blue V90 T8 R-Design with Polestar last week. Love it!

R Design all the way. I absolutely love the V90. If I could afford one, I would buy one in a heartbeat.
I would take the R design because I value handling. BUT, I would love to get the brown interior from the Inscription in the R design. The black interior of the R design just looks too bland.
Frank Reid the Amber interior with natural wood is incredible. Wish you could get that in R Design.
This car makes station wagons look hot... I have to have one
V90 inscription, I like the open pore wood
R-Design. The sporty looks are unmatched by anything else
this and the panamera sport turismo are the sexiest wagons out there
Absolutely an R design. Awesome looking car. Will become a timeless beauty. Volvo does wagons best.
R-Design all the way...exact spec as this one...love that blue!
Great looking car in the beautiful interior as well
this is what we call a review .. a real life review without bloat ... but no one wants it ..damn
Stunning design!
Did you ever get to drive the R Design without the air suspension? Planning to get one but I’m worried about the maintenance of a complex system.
Rdesign. Mine arrives in 5 days!!
I test drove the Inscription and to me it was like an old farts car.
The Rdesign makes it sporty and youthful.
I’d definitely get the R, mostly because of the grill, bumpers and looks, but also because of the seats and handling. And OFC i’d go with a T8.
You can order the sports steering wheel in other configurations which come with the paddle shifters
I prefer the Inscrition in Pine gray because it show the very classic lines of the v90. It almost the same style as the amazon combi.
Definitely R design. Saw it at the Montreal auto show. Sat in it until they throw me out. Ahhh those seats and that look. Never had that feeling since the 850 turbo wagon! lol.

V90 R Design in Bursting Blue is my selection - expected delivery date 11.21.17
How's she holding up??
Love the design, it's no 850 R 'in a good way' that was the last Volvo I owned. Just wish it wasn't so dang expensive...
If not the Cross Country then..... Inscription. I LOVE the R-Design, but at this price point, Ventilated Front seats are a must! I still like the Cross Country :)
No U.S market for this trim? R design?
I prefer the inscription based on the interior choices alone !
Can u do a video on the ferarri 812 superfast
I think the inscription suits this car ugh better
I would get the inscription because of the ventilated seats. I live in florida where walking from the store out to your car leaves you in need of a shower. Cool dry air on my butt makes a big difference.
R-design all the way... simple and sexy. When will you do a review of a XC-60 R-design?
Been nagging them for an R Design on the steel springs . . . Waiting patiently:)
where is that?
did he say german "bis später" at the end?
I think so, yes! I just saw it for the first time..and the end sequence now 3 times. And he defineteley said "bis später"..:-)
Cant find this volvo at my local dealers....only the cross country, why??
on order only. you build your car (can do it on the website), pay and they make it. works like that in Europe for the last 15 years
pichurri what about a test drive?do I have to buy it if order one?
Ok just see here on the Volvo website,Thanks
all volvos can have paddle shifters, its just that the r-design has it as standard. its a 150 dollar option
T6 R-Design: I like the overall performance focus, rather than luxury. Has anybody done the Polestar optimization for a U.S. spec car? If so, is it worth the money?

Party on, my friend.
It appears that my reply didn't show up. Am I mistaken, MM?
R design (on any Volvo) the look of the package is more important to me than add on's with the other (higher) trim levels.
anthony digangi
You can option the R-Design with almost every available package as the Inscription except for the leather luxury and massage ventilation front seats. That's because of the seat materials in the R-Design (leather and nubuck).
J High that is true, I feel the r design looks more expensive than the inscription trim level IMO.
There is no comparison between the R-Design seats and the Inscription's - the R wins that round hands down.
Great job. Look out doug, this guy is much easier to listen to
I love the 100 series be it the boxes or the Amazon, they're sightly impossible to find in Colorado let alone for sale so I'll have to settle for a 240
I think I would rock an old school 240 . . . Definitely a 740 Turbo Wagon with the 5 Speed.
I'm looking at the listings of these things on autotrader. Why is this a $70k car? They need to either cut that price significantly, or give it a lot more power.
I want to special order on if i can. The exterior of the R desgin, the interior of the inscription. That would be fantastic
and if we could get that T8 that would be gold
Different strokes for different folks. I own both, and hands down, the R-Design sport seats smoke the Inscription's. Maybe it's the suede inserts or the bigger side bolsters, but they make an already great seat even better.

The R-Design also offers aluminum trim, which I have and it looks fantastic - much better in person than on the Volvo Web site.
Inscription...have to have the vented seats in Brown!!!!

Love this automobile!
I wish there was a R design Cross Country
R-Design. Because beautiful, because handling. @Frank Reid & Rediscover Film, Word. But still wouldn't change my mind.

R type over Cross Country simply because of the appearance.
R design all the way….coolest wagon ever
Just sayin'...I'll take my six cylinder V60 R-Design over that beast any day for speed, looks, handling, price, and much less of a "computer on four wheels."
r design just looks better
Has to be the r design.
I’d have the most luxurious. I’m in the slow UK.
Does your lady friend have a lease thats ending lol
VERY happy to report it's the only Acura I like; COMPLETELY debt free!!!!!!
volvo should coupe this car!!!
Get rid of aspen dental.
Still needs an engine with some character.
i cant watch this typical american voice and accent
