Haha, Alois turned into a righty for the occasion. Nice skills there Alois! I'm reworking my basic strokes based on comments of an experienced trainer. Here's what he's urging me to do: FH - focus on rotating the hips; this also decreases the crossover area; keep the feet only slightly oblique; don't turn the leg inward while rotating; start with almost straight arm; add wrist action last; BH - start from the hip; move the bat so that the blade remains in 1 plane; a bit of hip doesn't hurt; feet are in the same position as for FH, so that switching doesn't require any longitudinal feet motion; add wrist action last I used to force my FH, switch feet position too much, and I used to have too quick a backhand motion with the blade moving from one plane to another; consistency is so much better now but obviously changing basic strokes leads to some fallout. See you later!
The key is to get the basic strokes correct and then you will have developed the consistency required to be able to start hitting the ball faster. These tutorials are a good starting point: www.pingskills.com/tutorials/basic-strokes
If you are just starting out I'd use the same on both sides. In fact I still do that. I think it's only if you have a specific preference for either side that you would choose something different.
hey Jeff and Alois, I need your help on my table tennis quiz this coming Tuesday could u helpmeet out ? This is the concerning factor in my college GPA and this is my only weak link. Please ?

Hi sir. My timing of making topspin in forehand is not going proper. When I take back swing for forehand topspin I see d ball has already gone out of d table. When try to start a bit earlier it does not work .My Stroke is going well but d timing is not perfect.Pls help me sir and give me a solution
Watch this tutorial and see if it helps: www.pingskills.com/tutorials/intermediate-strokes/forehand-topspin-against-block You can leave a comment on the website if you have more questions. Good luck!
What seems to be the main difference between your multiball practice and playing a match? Often it is that we don't know where the ball is coming during a match so during practice try some random drills where you also don't know where the ball is coming.
My forehand is very good but backhand its almost flat hits, while practicing I can't generate a good topspin hit like my forehand Also, I can't hit it on the table. Please give some tips on how can I practice my backhand alone and improve my backhand topspin.
Still want that advice? If yes then practice throwing a frisbee from the backhand side, you'll notice the motion is quite similar. It's important to stay relaxed during your backhand stroke and use your wrist upon contact.
I actually think both demonstrations of these techniques are a little outdated. The forehand loop requires more torso twisting and more back swing when possible. The backhand loop is a little too big with the follow through but does still have a place against weaker balls. I'm KNOW Jeff can do a much bigger motion on the forehand so I'll just assume that your just showing a slower demonstration but I think that can be a little dangerous for learners. It might actually make a good video to watch Jeff working on shortening his backhand stroke.
ha ha, yes we are back. We do have a large collection of videos to go over when we aren't posting too :) The best place to do this is actually on the website as we group them in a good order.
Hi I am 13 years old. I am simple table tennis player. I can't do forehand topspin continuously, by the time I loose control in my legs and I loose concentration and I just hit the ball somewhere.I am unsatisfied with my playing please help me.

#pingskills Should I use combinitions of rubbers on both sides or the same rubbers?
If you are just starting out I'd use the same on both sides. In fact I still do that. I think it's only if you have a specific preference for either side that you would choose something different.
Which rubbers and blades are you using?
I use the PingSkills Touch with Xiom Vega Pro rubbers.
