Great video. Quick question: is it just a matter of watching which direction the opponent’s paddle hits the ball at, to determine at what angle _your_ paddle should be to return it? If so, is there a hard and fast rule for which way your paddle should be angled according to the opponent’s (when it strikes the ball)? Such as “point your paddle in the same direction that your opponent’s was”.
Excellent question. It's not only the angle but also the speed of the contact and how much they brush the ball. Take a look at these tutorials for more help - www.pingskills.com/categories/serving-and-receiving Good luck!
There is no one best bat. It comes down to personal preference. We recommend the PingSkills Rook as a good first real table tennis bat - www.pingskills.com/table-tennis-store/pingskills-rook
Some VERY good rubbers Otherwise you have to master the natural spin(the wristle) Either few hundred dollars for some legendary rubbers or few years training like me to master the wristle spin
Hi Coaches Will you be australian open july 24th (being commentator or etc) ? We want to see you on tv and if you do a interview with pro players it will be great. Greets from Turkey
We will be there at some stage helping run some stands where people and school kids can try out table tennis. I think since it's a platinum event that Adam Bobrow will be commentating but I'm not 100% sure at this stage.
How to return if tomahawk serve is really fast? I always lose points to receive fast and long tomahawk serve? Can you show some techniques to return fast and long tomahawk serve? Thanks
If the serve comes really fast then don't try to hit it too hard yourself. See if you can just place the ball back on the table. For all our service and return videos take a look on our website: www.pingskills.com/categories/serving-and-receiving Good luck!
Again a really really awesome video. Absolute dedication from you guys. I just wanted to ask when the ball is quite high over the net and if I choose to give a forehand flick like Jeff was doing, do I need to keep the racquet inclined or do I keep it straight?
What are your thoughts on Tomokazi Harimoto? I think he's the future of table tennis. He just beat both Ma Long and Zhang Jike. As soon as I saw him few days ago I thought to myself " He's going to be something big"
I'll never forget, I was one of the best tennis players in the united states growing up so naturally I was good at ping pong right...so I'm at a club med resort in the ping pong tourney and naturally I get to the finals and win.. I end up playing the GE (clubd med employee) running the tournament and he has a wicked spin serve. Up until then I had been playing ping pong for years and years and I never encountered this before. He beat me real bad because I couldn't return his spin serve. Apparently the only way to return this type of spin is how they say in this video. I tried hitting topsin like in tennis, slice, just holding out my paddle, of course none of that worked. NEver realized why pro ping pong players play like that, but now I know.
It depends on the type of sidespin. The ball can be spinning to the left or to the right so you need to know which way it is spinning, then you can angle your bat to counter this sidespin. It means you have to aim away from where you want to hit the ball and let the spin take it in the correct direction. The videos in this category should all help you with an understanding of spin: www.pingskills.com/categories/serving-and-receiving Good luck with your table tennis!
i cant even shoot, i mean i can but when im trying to shoot back its shooting upwards or to the right side when my friends serves i cant hit it back to them
Ask them to serve the same serve with the same spin over and over. Then try to adjust your bat angle so you can get the ball back on the table. Good luck!
Interesting. You can ask a question on the PingSkills website using the ask the coach section. This is the best place to ask your table tennis questions.
Sir, I loss many games when my score is game point and the opponent's score is 6,5,4,3. Can you tell me what to do in this situation? Please help!,sir.😞😟😢😐🙂
Alois played at 2 World Championships for Australia and has coached at the Olympics and the Paralympics. I played at the Sydney 2000 Olympics. Cheers, Jeff.
Great, now try and get sidespin and work on getting the ball to spin to the side. Keep trying to vary the amount of spin, and then eventually you do need to get to a table and try and practice it there. You can even try this on a dinner table.
extremely valuable tips and training. Learning how spin works and practicing it will take your game to the next level.
I am fascinated by this game of skills.. i am a beginner..I have seen many TT skill demonstrations but this looks simple and comprehensive.. loving it
Thanks. You can see the whole series here: www.pingskills.com/tutorials/training-101
Enjoy!
He has mastered the ultimate skill of the hustler. Being able turn on and off his skills at will to switch between scrub and pro.
returning this serve has been a mystery for me. thank you very much for the demonstration
You are welcome.
I really like watching his videos because he's a lefty too and it gives me a better feel of what/how I need do things
Best table tennis channel 🙂
Thanks :)
Good I like tennis

You guys are doing great.....Thanks for the video....
You're welcome.
Great stuff 👍
It's so funny when they miss shots on purpose and then act all disappointed :D
:)
Thanks so much coach!
Very good tutorial !
you will get heaven for this 👍👏
Is it a good idea to counteract the tomahawk serve with sidespin? I tend to do so a lot.
Love your videos btw!
Thanks! Yes you can do this. You can also just use the angle of the bat to counter the spin. As always use whatever works!
Sir ... What about the fast tomohawk serve swirling from one end to another diagonally, how do we return that ?
That can be tricky to start with. Once you learn the topspin strokes that is the best way to return such a serve.
great video for training
Thanks. I'm glad you found it useful.
@@pingskills Been finding them useful for almost ten years now!
@@analogeit We love hearing stories like yours. Thanks for your ongoing support!

Very nice👍
Dude youre the best seriously this channel so fucking entertaining
I wanna see that game. And I live in Australia too
Nice video, thanks.
You're welcome.
I have a question that is a serve legal if the ball hits the edge of the table like a lucky point?
If the ball hits the edge of the table then it is counted as "in" and unless your opponent can somehow get the ball back then you win the point.
Those spins are crazy! 👍👌😊
How can I achieve that skill? 🤔🙄
Ah, that's where you need a decent bat that has some grippy rubber, and then you need a fast brushing contact. Good luck!
Some VERY good rubbers
Otherwise you have to master the natural spin(the wristle)

Great question. I can't remember exactly where I got those. Some sports stores may stock them.
Thanks guys

The bat angle certainly can change depending on the height of the ball and the type of spin.
Useful sir
I'm glad you found it helpful. Keep enjoying your table tennis.
What are your thoughts on Tomokazi Harimoto?
I think he's the future of table tennis. He just beat both Ma Long and Zhang Jike.
As soon as I saw him few days ago I thought to myself " He's going to be something big"
Harimoto certainly is incredible. We discuss his amazing victory in our latest ask the coach podcast.
Will this work against wiper serve
Yes the principles are the same. See which way the ball spins off your bat and then adjust the angle of your bat to counteract the spin.
Sir facing a problem
Is good rubber necessary ( I am having mark 5 )
Is it good for returning serves.....
Hope u will reply soon :)
Mark 5 is a good rubber don't worry, stick to it !
Mark V is a good rubber as herve mentioned.

As I am right handed player how should I return the ball with side spin

For your toss for your serve where do you need to toss it to get the accuracy for all types of spin
It is not really important. You can decide from where you want to serve based on your strengths.
Thx jiff :))

Interesting. You can ask a question on the PingSkills website using the ask the coach section. This is the best place to ask your table tennis questions.
How to return Fast cornered sidespin Serve??
Google "returning long sidespin serve pingskills" for some ideas. The ideal way is to use your topspin strokes.
You can hit the ball on the opponents side of the table.
It also.depends on bat

Might be more helpful if you stood on the other side when receiving the serve from the viewer's point of view.

if u dont have any table how to learn spin
You can try and serve the ball onto the floor and try to get it to spin back to you. Give it a try and let me know if you can do it.
s i did it the ball came back to me what should i do now
