    4:42 the "flipped normals" isn't the terrain exporting the wrong way, it's because the normals were made for OpenGL, while Unreal uses the other normal map type (DirectX) the literal only difference in these is the green channel being the opposite way in the normal map. Many various programs use either OpenGL or DirectX, it's a mixed bag in the industry

      Exactly! I can do anything I want with this project instead of having it constrained to a strict, custom engine. I could make a racing mini-game of some kind if I wanted to. I absolutely do not want to put any kind of racing game in this...but I could if I wanted haha

      @@Level_reDesign Yeah, a lot of these features that you're planning could definitely not be attempted on the original Fable engine. I wouldn't even be surprised if it was a challenge in the Anniversary DLC because that version of Unreal is really limited!
      You could make the "racing mini game" chicken related!

    Amazing to see this!! I remade the Hero's Guild from scratch in UE4, 2 years ago as a portfolio piece (im a
    3d artist). Used a combination of TLC and Annyversary as a reference. I love to see that there are still passionate Fable fans doing these projects ;p

    Wow now this would be cool project to see completed. I have been playing the remastered version and I am a bit disappointed that they didn't take some creative points like you have mentioned in the video, especially the loading screen and still a bit clunky lol cant wait to see your final product here.

    Restarted Anniversary the other day and noticed just how huge the environment is outside the playable area so I'm so pumped for this. Fable is a much bigger game physically than I remembered so seeing it all flow together will be awesome.

      They did a lot of tricks to make the region's seem larger than they were! Really cool! I'm working on the script for episode 3 now, but I will be moving states soon, so I will do a video during my time out that is easier to make just showing how current regions connect. That's the plan anyways lol

      I would love to see the Fable maps modded in to Elder Scrolls lol. What area did/are you bringing in first?
      To be fair, I spent almost a month and a half with the sole focus of trying to figure out how to do this as fast as possible. It will be much slower after the MVP as I will be doing more environment building by hand. There are things that is frustrating by doing it how I do it right now lol

      Yeah, I think Playground is Microsoft's most talented studio, so I think it will be good at the very least because it seems Playground refuses to release anything mediocre for the target audience.
      It may not live up to Fable 1, but I think it will be great regardless.
      If I had to pick a team to make Fable, I would either choose Playground games or Double Fine because of how simply amazing Psychonauts 2 was

      I'm not against the idea as these assets are publicly available, all I would do is save time. However, looking back, I wish I would have exported individual assets and recreate the regions (rather than exporting a whole level).
      I am actually writing a video script right now where I call this my biggest mistake/regret for the project lol

    Honestly it absolutely blows my mind Xbox hasn’t done a full remake of this game. It’s legendary and it would sell so well. Instead we’re getting a full reboot of the franchise 😢

    What pc specs do you have and how is ue5 in performance terms compared to ue4?

      I have a decent build. Ryzen 2700x with a RTX 3060 and the project is on an NVME SSD. Funny story with that. I had a very outdated GPU because of the shortage. I had a 960 still. I ran into an issue where I hit my VRAM limit in the editor on this project with the 2 GB that card had. So, I bought a 3060 that day from Best Buy with 12 GB of VRAM. You don't need that much, especially if you are not doing an open world game.
      As far as performance, in editor doesn't seem to be any slower or faster, but the application can run a bit faster than UE4 is seems. I don't know the full benefits of UE5's optimizations yet though due to not being far enough into the project. Once I have more active systems, lights, dynamic object animations, and AI in the project, we will be able to see better how performance is in UE5 over UE4.

      Fable 2 deserves a remake so much, But I am going to pass on that myself personally. I am also making a Fable city builder game that has a lot of neat ideas and potential.
      After these are done, I will either do one more remake of a PS1 Licensed game (the game is a cult classic), or I will make a kids game. We need more good games for little kids. I wanted to make a Bluey game, but that was just announced by another studio lol

      Yeah, I have a lot of people hyped for the next part, and it brings the views in for sure lol. I put the project on a temporary pause to work on a Fable City Builder. But don't worry, I am coming back to this UE5 project; it is not being cancelled! I may even work on both at the same time so people don't get upset over the UE5 pause lol

      Do you mean doing this are far as 3D game development, or as in the specs required to play the project? The specs for the project have not been optimized very much at all yet.
      For my dev PC, I have a Ryzen 7 2700x, 32 GB RAM, and an RTX 3060. I'm upgrading my PC this year though lol

      I think I will eventually completely replace or update the model for the hero character because I think the anniversary model is kind of ugly and prefer the visual style of the Lost Chapters hero (although it is "higher quality"). While doing that, I will probably look at updating the pure and evil visuals. I think something cool would be is if certain "evil" or "good" body effects were locked behind tasks. Like, what if you could only get fallen angel wings if you were fully good, and became fully evil. I'm not sure if any of this is feasible yet though because of the possible implications it could cause with animation work. I need to do more research when I get to that point
      However, I don't plan to until at least the MVP is done, so this would probably be a few months from now at the earliest!

      @@albow6492 this is funny because the real estate feature you asked about is something that I mentioned earlier in a discord group with solution that I am 100% doing. Having to kill people to buy property goes against the core design of Fable. But my solution is pretty cool and unique I think ;) it is a secret for now though lol

      Great question since I am using a lot of Fable assets currently. Trust me, the visual updates have not even really started! Here is the plan:
      1st, I will be replacing the sky and have a better skylight system when I get a day night system in. That will probably be the first update I make. This will also have a weather system with it
      2nd, I am fully replacing many of the outdated models in the environment. This is what I mentioned in the video with the trees, rock, and foliage meshes. I may do more as well, but that is the minimum.
      3rd, I will be upscaling all of the textures up to 4k with AI. I have already tested this with some textures about a month ago, and it is a crazy big improvement. I will also replace some textures that are a bit more generic all together. I actually used super high quality textures already on the terrain.
      Lastly (for right this moment) I will update the lighting and see if I can get a better lighting result than Anniversary had.

      I just repainted the entire ground meshes in engine. Something else though that I don't know if I mentioned in the video, but the normals were reversed in the export as well

      thanks by the way for being the first person to give me information on this as ive been trying to work with fable tlcs heightmaps which are incomplete (the only ones i could find didnt include darkwood hook coast or the northern wastes) wasnt til your video i learned i could export the entire scene as an obj

      While not necessarily against the idea, I will be changing the way I get assets for all regions after the MVP in order to help save project space and resources. The way I did it is faster (which is important for a prototype or MVP), but it is not optimal at all for the project.
      I will be making this change as I start on the Greatwood regions. I may do a video on this during my move in December to show better what I am talking about. We will see

      You know, you were right, but what is actually taking the longest is making player combat and AI (Neither of which I have a lot of experience in). I saved a crazy amount of hours from getting to reuse art though lol

      I'm not against giving the files out, as anyone can do it. So I'm just saving time for people (opposed to giving out resources that should be inaccessible. However, there are a few issues. I didn't export them in the most future proof way, which would have been to do the assets one by one and rebuild the levels. Also, size is an issue for deployment to people because of the way I did it, I don't want to pay to have enough space on Google Drive to let people download them.
      With that being said, I do have a video about how to get the files from Fable Anniversary, and it isn't very difficult. Just a little time consuming.

      You know, I actually completely agree that the one thing I dislike more about the anniversary version than anything else is the main character design. The issue though is animations and rigging. I can not get any of the animations from the TLC, and since there are 700 animations for the main character, it just isn't possible for me to make those by hand.
      Rigging the model from TLC to work with those animations from FA is also a big issue because pulling a skeletal mesh from TLC is extremely difficult. I got the static meshes, but skeletal meshes are a whole different game.
      After I finish the first hour of the game for my MVP, I will start looking into remaking the character though to see how heavy that task would be
