I was about to say Charlie dnf a long way to the small angry planet but saw she told you 😂😂 It isn’t for everyone.. I’m reading tomorrow tomorrow tomorrow for my Readathon in May so lovely to hear what you thought about it. Hope your headaches have gone now, they are horrible.
Agree about Notes on a Scandal. I gave up on Project Hail Mary about half way through. I don't want to say too much about it either, so one word-dross-probably covers it. I can recommend, Judgement in Stone by Ruth Rendell. It's a why dunnit rather than a who dunnit, as the very first sentence tells us that Eunice Parchman murdered the Coverdale family because she couldn't read or write. It's not overly long, so might not be too bad with your current health problems. It was written in the eighties, I think, so is a bit dated but worth a read.
I enjoyed Nuclear Family so I definitely will add the audio book of In At The Deep End to my wishlist. (Just checked and the audio is on Everand 🤩) Finished In Defence Of The Act and I loved it. It’s in my top 3 for sure❤️ Sorry you have had headaches. Not nice!! Haha I DNF’ed The Long Way To A Small Angry Planet too so you aren’t the only one 😂😂 Great wrap up as always ❤️
Haha, glad I wasn't the only person to DNF it 🙈 I've heard a few people recently say they really liked In Defence of the Act, I wonder if it could make the shortlist. In At The Deep End was so good! Maybe I was a bit harsh not giving it the full five stars.
Ooh, sorry about your headaches. I hoped they've eased up. I know Becky Chambers isn't for everybody and knew it might not be plotty enough for you but I'm glad you tried it. The audiobook for Project Hail Mary elevates it a ton! Try to get it if you can.
My Oscars pick was nominated for a bunch of categories and won none as well! Notes on a Scandal sounds great though - enjoyed your review. Shame you didn’t like The Guest. I found it such a pleasant surprise. Project Hail Mary picks up. Stick with it!!!
I still don’t think I understand Hummingbird Salamander and it’s been over a month! 😂 I’m still none the wiser. Definitely not one for when you’ve got a headache. Another time, perhaps. I’ve now DNFed 3 from the women’s prize which I feel a bit bad about but I don’t want to get in a slump again! I’m sure the Booktube police won’t throw you off TH-cam for the Chambers DNF, not every book can be for every person. That locked room mystery book looks perfect for getting out of a slump/DNF streak. 😊 I’ve never heard of the Toni Morrison story so maybe I should read it. Project Hail Mary picks up massively. 😊
You're the third person to tell me I should stick with Project Hail Mary 🙈 I was really intrigued by Hummingbird Salamander but it's definitely one that needs full concentration! 😂 Recitatif is a really interesting read and very short!
Great wrap up! I read The Maiden several months ago and it was...good, not great. I was actually really surprised to see it show up on the Women's Prize Longlist because it just didn't seem to really stand out for me.
Of the five long listed books I’ve read, I liked Enter Ghost Solider Sailor The Wren The Wren Ordinary Human Failings The book I didn’t think was Womens Prize standard was Restless Dolly Maunder I’m currently listening to Brotherless Night , which is very good.

Thanks Emily, I hope you enjoy Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow 😊

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll keep an eye out for the Ruth Rendell! I really like a whydunnit.
Regarding headaches. I’m a migraine sufferer. What helped me was taking magnesium at night and having Epsom salts baths
Thanks so much for the suggestions 😊
Everyone's unlikeable? You sold it to me 😂 adding Notes on a Scandal to my library tbr
Very unlikeable!! 😁

Thank you for not making me regret my DNF 😂 Yes, I was looking forward to it as it sounded like my kind of thing but it just wasn't for me.
Of the five long listed books I’ve read, I liked
Enter Ghost
Solider Sailor
The Wren The Wren
Ordinary Human Failings
The book I didn’t think was Womens Prize standard was
Restless Dolly Maunder
I’m currently listening to
Brotherless Night ,
which is very good.
I may pick up Ordinary Human Failings, I've heard good things about it.
