I never noticed how good at negotiating i was until this interview. Im a NATURAL. I literally negotiated a free month of service with my phone company. Same angled approaches in a way as he said. And limited the deception or lies and they honored me all with being a loyal customer. When they usually could give a max of seven days in credit. 😊
I used to do customer service for an airline. Everything this man said about us is 100% true. He said, don't mess with someone that can fuck you over by doing nothing, I usually said don't bite the only hand that can feed you. We see thousands of people a day. 98% come with the same lines, literally 1% are excruciatingly difficult to work with and 1% come with interactions I remember to this day.
What do you even mean by saying “don’t mess with someone that can fuck you over by doing nothing.” Explain that please, because reading that seems like you are saying “don’t, yet do something! Which is it?
@debra7241 He was saying that it's not a great strategy to come up to a customer service agent yelling at them, because they can choose to do little to nothing to help you. I have certainly done it. Perhaps I could have pulled some strings to get you on another flight or get you a better seat, but if you're going to be a prick, then I'll do the bare minimum for you. If you come nicely, have compassion, and ask me for help I'd be glad to do what I can for you, which, as he said, we can work a lotttt more about seating arrangements and ticketing on flights than people think. So if you're late to your flight, beggars can't be chooser, but by being engaging and kind, I'll pull whatever I can to help you out. Basically, why make an enemy out of the only person that can help you, and this goes for everything in life
@ I see, this makes more sense. I completely agree. I just couldn’t make heads or tails of it when I heard him make the statement, and then I read the comment. Thank you, for responding.
Great guest, love Chris Voss, love the podcast as well, always a good listen at work! But the ads are getting a bit out of hand. I understand you want to be compensated for your hard work and want to get sponsored for the attention but I pay for TH-cam premium to not get ads, yet this is the only channel that has more than 2 ads per video, regardless of length. Get better paying sponsors imo if that’s the issue 😕 Seen a couple of comments agreeing with this sentiment as well, I’d rather support in other ways than to take away from the interviews, disrupts the entire flow :(
His book is amazing, read it to prep for a house negotiation simulation and got it for 50% of the price and they thought they were getting a reasonable deal.
Read his book “Never Split the Difference”. Mr Voss has unique methods that are incredibly useful when executed correctly and have helped me build better relations in higher stress communications. Again super excited for this interview! 🎉
What an awesome interview!!! I found your channel due to your interview with PBD. I’m really impressed your channel, I have listened to 5 or 6 of them over the past 3 days.
Pretty sure this guy walked into a store a worked at and he said “you look like you’ve had a rough day today” I was genuinely confused and I ignored him.
His book is very highly recommended. I've listened to the audiobook six times already. Every time I listen to it, I get something new.
yea only book i finished, very good
Never Split The Difference is one of my favorite books I have ever read.
Listening to this podcast I keep visualizing Mike Ehrmantrout is talking about
Man this guy really likes to plug his friends books. Seems like a good guy to be friends with. Enjoyed listening to him.

I've been waiting for this interview to come along since I started listing to this podcast! Stoked to listen in
Really excited for this one. Never split the difference is a great read!
Glad you liked the book!
I bet airline workers are wondering why everyone is saying “Tough day?” to them now.
Jfc guys there were ads every 8mins
This is probably the best one so far! Now I will have to get his book to read.
Chris would be an excellent actor.

The extra ads after already paying for TH-cam premium is ridiculous..

Great coversation! ilov! new look, keep it up!!! Ty
Thank you!!
He reminds me of Mike from Breaking Bad but still working for the good guys.
Just curious to know why they bring so many questions about relationships?
His book is amazing, read it to prep for a house negotiation simulation and got it for 50% of the price and they thought they were getting a reasonable deal.
My favorite line “ How am I supposed to do that”
👍
I always put an annoyed inflection to these words when I read the book.
This is gonna be a great one
Enjoy!
Read his book about 2 years ago, great guest!
Thanks!
❤❤❤
❤️

Between you doing ads and TH-cam this pod cast is hard to watch 🤦♂️. Just being honest
Chill. Graham doesn’t have enough money. 😂
I’ve been waiting for this interview for two years! So excited! Not even a second into the video.😂

Wow, the negotiations on salary was an eye opener.
