Thanks for finally doing an SG reaction, made my night! To answer your question, he was 52 years and 10 months old at his death. Some more background, Outshined was a single from their Badmotorfinger album which was released in September of 1991. The band was formed in 1984 by Singer/Drummer Chris Cornell, guitarist Kim Thayil and bassist Hiro Yamamoto. The band added drummer Matt Cameron to the lineup in 1986 and released their debut ep the next year followed by their debut album UltramegaOK in 1988 and Louder Than Love in 1989. Hiro left the band that year and was replaced by Ben Shepherd and here we are at Outshined. The band would release with their most successful album, Superunknown in 1994 and finally Down on the Upside in 1996. The band broke up in 1997 and went on a 13 year hiatus until 2010. They released King Animal two years later, which would be their final album since Chris sadly died in 2017. The remaining members are working on overdubbing the finished vocal tracks for the album they were working on at that time so we may still get one final album. That's a lot of info, I know. I'm kind of a nerd about SG, hope you enjoyed the read, Jamel.
Swing around to the other side of Chris's epic voice, try "Sunshower" from the Great Expectations soundtrack. Gorgeous. Soundgarden was my college theme music. :) Everything he sang was golden.
Glad to see you are enjoying the Soundgarden videos. They performed for guitar center live in 2014. Over 20 years and everything still sounded amazing. 👍
He was 52. With a 4 octave range. He did dabble in R&B with Timbaland in 2009. Scream is the album name. It angered a lot of fans. Personally I liked it. Scream, Time & Part Of Me. Are my favorite tracks. His TEMPLE OF THE DOG work is good. His solo is good too.
That’s why Chris was known in the music industry as “the Voice”.. Check out their albums in entirety, the one before Badmotofinger is Louder Than Love and it’s incredible.. making that music in their twenties
omg. I've heard this song a million times & sum songs just ne er get old. that line: I can't get any lower, but still feel I'm sinking is so prophetic for Chris. God bless. I miss him!!!
This is the true essence of the Grunge sound. Badmotorfinger, Louder than Love and Ultraomega OK albums are Soundgarden at its best. Badmotorfinger was released on the same day Nirvana's Nevermind was released. So when Outshined became the first single off of Badmotorfinger it coninsided at the same time Nirvana dropped its Grunge Atomic Bomb on the world Smells Like Teen Spirit.
Badmotorfinger is the greatest album out of that whole scene, hands down. I remember driving to Ironwood Studios at about 10pm one night while listening to an interview on a local radio station right before the album came out and the guys were talking about their new album in between playing a few cuts. I remember just thinking to myself "holy crap, they are taking this to a whole 'nother level!". I was there at the Mercer Street Tower Records the day it came out to pick up my copy.
Yang-It-Yin I believe Soundgarden Badmotorfinger, Nirvana Nevermind and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Blood Sugar Sex Magic came out on the same day in the same year.
Outshined, Blackhole Sun and Fell on Black Days are my 3 favourite songs from Soundgarden, love them as a whole ever since I was a kid, but these 3 songs in particular always held a place in my heart.
Back in the 90s Axl Rose actually said that Chris Cornell is his favorite singer. Cornell was surprised when he heard that. With all truth and honesty, if you get a complement from Axl Rose, you know you got it. I love Cornell and he is my favorite singer, but I have to give the crown to Axl- 6 octave range and the power of a jet engine. Cant surpass that.
That breakdown when he plays through that cool ass riff 3 times and each time through the drums add slightly more groove is probably my favorite part of this song. Just a sick section
The fact that you listen to any genre is awesome. To see and hear how much you enjoy and appreciate the musical talent ,whether you understand what they're saying or not is what made me a subscriber. Here's one I recommend Kenny Chesney, Out Last Night.
You should totally check out the band Foo Fighters. I just listened to The Pretender recently for after what had been a while and I was reminded of how awesome a song it is. One of my favorites all time. FYI the lead singer of Foo FIghters was the drummer in Nirvana
When he died? 52..His Birthday was July 20, 1964. So he was probably 26 or 27 when they made that album “BadMotorfinger”.Love watching your reactions!!:)
Dude, your reactions are one of a kind. I always appriciate when someone else feels the music the same way as me, and the way you express yourself, is in perfect tune with the feeling. Soundgarden were the best grunge band imo. Perfect mix of Led Zep era blues / stadium rock, with the doomy gloom of deep Melvins riffs. Then you have that insanely epic voice. It even gets more metal and prog than the other grunge bands too. Heavy as!

first tune of theirs i ever learned how to play. you should also check out: Black Hole Sun, Fell On Black Days, and My Wave. and Cornell was 52 when he passed.
Kurt Borchers I also like “Burden In My Hand” and the not-always-appropriate “Pretty Noose”.
@@continentalaquatics2725 the day I tried to live is also amazing.
SnEaKeR S33kEr84 Agreed!
❤❤❤❤ Beautiful hair !!! RIP Chris Cornell !! Awesomeness!!
Slaves and Bulldozers! Soundgarden!! He was soooo beautiful!!!
Yesss!!! Good idea!I love Slaves and Bulldozers very much!
Oh,and If Audioslave request my choice 'Show Me How To Live'.One of the best Audioslave song IMO.And solo Chris's songs... 'Can't change Me' or 'Preaching The End of the World'. Personally My ones fav off Euphoria Mourning album the 'Wave Goodbye'.No words describe that album (too).Sorry my bad english, not my native language.
Or maybe not. I might break down😔
Glad to see you are enjoying the Soundgarden videos. They performed for guitar center live in 2014. Over 20 years and everything still sounded amazing. 👍
I’m feeling.... outshined outshined outshined!!
LOVE THIS ONE BROTHER 🤘🏻🤘🏻🔥🔥🍺🍺
I think Louder Than Love was their best album overall.
omg. I've heard this song a million times & sum songs just ne er get old. that line: I can't get any lower, but still feel I'm sinking is so prophetic for Chris. God bless. I miss him!!!
Chris Cornell had the kind of voice that would've fit any band from any era of rock & metal music. Godly voice!
2020, and the music of Soundgarden still gives me goosebumps.
Black Hole Sun is a must from Soundgarden! Simply amazing song, and trippy music video! Keep up the good work man. Much love.
Soundgarden "Hands All Over" "Just Like Suicide"
Outshined, Blackhole Sun and Fell on Black Days are my 3 favourite songs from Soundgarden, love them as a whole ever since I was a kid, but these 3 songs in particular always held a place in my heart.
Red hot chili peppers "Higher ground". It's a Stevie Wonder cover.
"Room a Thousand Years Wide"
The most overlooked great song they did.
My God! Incredible talent. Deep, dark, epic song and band. Great reaction, brother!
Chris Cornell out here givin Troy Polamalu a run for his money in the hair department
That breakdown when he plays through that cool ass riff 3 times and each time through the drums add slightly more groove is probably my favorite part of this song. Just a sick section
Please do a video on Danzig and his music video “Mother”, they don’t call him the “Evil Elvis” for nothing. I don’t think you will be disappointed.
If Jamel does some reaction videos of Danzig songs, he's definitely gotta include "Twist of Cain"
This would be amazing!
You definitely got it right. That voice went right through you!!! Imagine sitting through a concert... which I did many, many times
Slaves and Bulldozers is the best rock vocal I've ever heard. Hope you go down the Soundgarden rabbithole
Watching you watch this for the first time I am transported back to my 20s. Thanks man! You are my favorite time machine.
one of THE best albums ever, period
The fact that you listen to any genre is awesome. To see and hear how much you enjoy and appreciate the musical talent ,whether you understand what they're saying or not is what made me a subscriber. Here's one I recommend Kenny Chesney, Out Last Night.
You should totally check out the band Foo Fighters. I just listened to The Pretender recently for after what had been a while and I was reminded of how awesome a song it is. One of my favorites all time. FYI the lead singer of Foo FIghters was the drummer in Nirvana
Over at Rick Beato's channel he just did a breakdown of The Pretender. Great if you are a music nerd.
jrdougan I fucking love Ricky Beats
Everlong
I just watched the Rick Beato breakdown, too. Great channel.
When he died? 52..His Birthday was July 20, 1964. So he was probably 26 or 27 when they made that album “BadMotorfinger”.Love watching your reactions!!:)
blurry by puddle of mudd is another good one if you wanna check them out lol this is another banger soundgarden is really good
Great Reaction! The Day I Tried to Live is my favorite Soundgarden song..Keep on Rockin'!
Dude, your reactions are one of a kind. I always appriciate when someone else feels the music the same way as me, and the way you express yourself, is in perfect tune with the feeling. Keep the great content coming, and there is so many more awesome soundgarden songs out there, heck, I'm still discovering new ones(to me) all the time. Check out right turn. It's a collaboration from chris and layne stayley
GD that was the great winter of 91!!!! Crappy summer just out of HS, than September dropped like ABADMOTORFINGER!!!! What a time......
Try out Pretty Noose from Soundgarden my favorite from them.
Thank you Jamal for taking the time to listen to one of the greatest bands. Chris was the most amazing. We have lost one of the greatest to ever get behind a mic, put pen to paper, and create/compose. I know all too well about the chills that voice pulses through your soul !
I hope you get around to Slaves and Bulldozers by SoundGarden
and fresh tendrils...
Soundgarden were the best grunge band imo. Perfect mix of Led Zep era blues / stadium rock, with the doomy gloom of deep Melvins riffs. Then you have that insanely epic voice. It even gets more metal and prog than the other grunge bands too. Heavy as!
chris cornell could’ve been a damn model if he wanted to
Yep. Hes definatly eye candy
I think he did some modeling between Audioslave and his solo stuff
Real feelings were coming from him when he was singing this..Awesome group, glad I was told about them. RIP Chris
Jane's Addiction - Mountain Song please and thank you!
One of the best to Ever do it. A legend and a Poet. A beautiful voice and a beautiful person. RIP to an Icon🙏
A lot of women cried when he cut that hair.
Hell, I'm still crying. I mean,he sent it to Susan Silver for crying out loud! I often wonder if she kept it
😂
@@Kikichan456 who's Susan Silver? Name sounds familiar
@@gizzy2403 she was Soundgarden and Alice in Chains manager and she and Chris were married. She was his first wife from 1990 til 2006 ish. They had a daughter.
@@Kikichan456 oh ok, cool. I really didn't know & really dont follow stars personal life. I appreciate th reply, thanx!
This is the song that made Chris Cornell a household name! Voices like his don't come around very often. Another one of the greats taken away from us
Do “say hello to heaven” by Temple of the Dog Chris really testes his limits on that track. Oh and Eddie from Pearl Jam does a duo with Chris on this one.
RIP Chris, such a soulful singer and lyricist! This song is epic!
