Hi BP, an orchestra is a group of musicians, usually around 70 - 80 people. They are composed of strings (violins, violas, cellos and double basses), woodwinds (clarinets, oboes, saxophones etc) brass (trumpets, trombones, flutes) and percussion (timpani, xylophones, marimbas etc, but may also include drums). Symphonies are pieces of music which are usually at least 4 distinct parts or movements. A Symphony might include a choir or vocal soloist. You get different names for Orchestras, eg Symphony or Philharmonic (roughly the same thing). You also get a chamber orchestra which is much smaller. All orchestras are led by the Conductor who keeps the tempo and ensures all the musicians are playing in time and at the right place. The Composer is the person who wrote the symphony. Orchestras also play pieces which are not symphonies, in fact there is a symphony orchestra in NZ which plays a pretty great version of Darude’s Samdstorm!
Since BP was curious about what it's called when an orchestra is accompanied by vocalists (e.g. a choir), it's worth noting that a symphony that's composed for an orchestra and a choir, and possibly solo vocalists, is simply called a "choral symphony". The first choral symphony was Beethoven's 9th Symphony, completed in 1824. It incorporates a choir and soloists singing "Ode to Joy" in the final movement. It's set to a melody that's commonly called the "Hymn to Joy", which has been the Anthem of Europe since 1985.
@@PavlozKapeliz And let's not forget Tonino Delli Colli the cinematographer. This was their first movie together and it's a big step up from Sergio's previous :)
Years ago, I bought this soundtrack because I thought it would be humorous, but appropriate, background music for a game night I was trying to plan for. That game night never happened, but I've never regretted buying this soundtrack, and I've listened to it far more times than I ever expected to.
Who, for example? It's a great score, and I love it and this performance. Such judgements are very much subjective. I'd rather vote for Hermann's score for Citizen Kane, Korngold's for Robin Hood, Rosza's for Ben-hur, or even Steiner's for the original King Kong, which really challenged what a score could do. Doesn't minimize my admiration for Morricone's work.
I would also vote for Conan score by Basil Poledouris. Especially cause like this score tells parts of the story filling gaps with leitmotifs it introduces and intertwines with scene music.
Poledouris' score reminds me of what the celebrated wit and pianist Oscar Levant said of Steiner's "King Kong" score when the film first came out. "It's a concert of Steiner's music with visual accompaniment". I feel the same about the score for "Conan".@@galadballcrusher8182

A few years ago, I went to a big orchestral concert where several hits from various films were played for almost four hours, including this one. It was a fantastic four hours that went by far too quickly and the orchestra got a standing ovation and people clapped their hands sore. About two years later, there was a concert with great music from various games. It was absolutely terrific. Music is simply the best!
The real genius is someone who can hear each instrument part and be able to put it all together seamlessly in their head before putting down on paper. That is crazy, to me. I played in an orchestra for several years. A dozen or more playing complexly different scores but as a whole it all comes together.
Ennio Morricone died in 2020. Amazing composer. His score to The Mission is one of my faves. A composer writes a symphony. The orchestra is the performers. The person leading the orchestra is the conductor (not the composer). Sometimes composers will conduct, e.g. John Williams is a composer but he sometimes he conducts orchestras performing the Star Wars soundtrack. The instrument at the opening was a recorder, not a flute.
Morricone was a true composer. A master trumpet player. He studied with great modern composers. Then, he decided to "make something for a film". He took inspiration from a lot of different things, put them together in a single score... many times, for a lot of movies. He was a genius of course but he allways remained himself. And that's a rare trait. It's the third movie in the "dollar trilogy". These films made Clint Eastwood Clint Eastwood, I think. P.S: a mezzo soprano has a deep, sweet voice for sure! I love it.
Il capo dei capi! Bravissimo Don Morricone!!!!! This epic melodia allows me to keep my Grandfather's face alive in my memory as he was a symbiotic copy of Lee Van Cleef.
This is why we should introduce orchestral pieces to a younger audience. I've listened to classical and instrumental pieces from very young. The experience of listening to all the instruments as the y combine to give such a unbelievable feeling it touches the soul
Listened to this shurely 200 times, or more... Everytime there are some more little nuances, you did'nt recognize before. Absolute masterpiece in copiing a gem of music made for eternity!!! Will watch it a few hundred times more. And, of course, thank's for your reaction to it. Appreciate....
Symphony: an elaborate musical composition for full orchestra, typically in four movements, at least one of which is traditionally in sonata form. Orchestra: a group of instrumentalists, especially one combining string, woodwind, brass, and percussion sections and playing classical music.
THANK YOU! I can't explain how much the youth of today are missing out on real music with real instruments and sung/sound effects with real human voices. I played violin in grade school (my claim to fame) in orchestra along with Rod Steinhart. I'd sit next to him so I could hear cues and I guess feel the energy of what we were playing. I dropped violin going into junior high and went into singing (soprano) 7th grade through high school. We were surrounded by music on our lives. The best bands, musicians, rock music composers were out of music majors/schools. Sting (started with the band Mister Mister) was a music teacher. They all knew music and how to bend..okay...break the rules of music to create masterpieces.
I saw Ennio Morricone, the composer, directing this and many other of his works in Berlin many years ago. Full Orchestra and 70-80 person choir. Amazing concert! Also cause my dad invited me and he is a massive spagetti western fan. 😁
When I discovered this I kept playing it every day for quite a while. You start noticing certain decorations as an homage to the movie, the hanging guy, the Clint Eastwood silhouette, the gun earrings of the "wawa" girl, etc...and what music! So loyal to the original score!
Absolutely amazing musical score!!! All the unique sounds layered and blended throughout the music is fantastic!!! Really enjoyed hearing this after so many years, thanks!!

Did you notice the guy hanging above the orchestra? You haven't said so yet, but maybe you'll notice before it's over. I saw the movie a long time ago, but I enjoyed it very much! I'm sure you'd love it! Mr. Eastwood was still young and energetic and quite entertaining to watch!
The guitar riff that comes in on this score is so simple but amazing. It’s all amazing. This movie😮 is basically one big amazing music video….especially the last 20 minutes.
Film scores are the modern follow-up of classical music (you know like Verdi, Beethoven, Mozart, etc). There are even some film score writer who do concerts with symphony orchestras like Hans Zimmer or Howard Shore and others. One of the most underrated film scores in my opinion is from Conan the Barbarian - the first huge movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. But there is just a ton of great film scores. Maybe you try some more 🙂 Most people dont notice how important the music score is for a movie. Which makes movies like "no country for old men" so special (cause no score - thank you Coen Brothers for your brilliancy)
Finally you got to react to some music from My home country! You should check out danish rockband DAD - No Fuel Left For the Pilgrims. They have been touring for decades. in the mind of danes they are rock royalty on par with the greatest!
Is it go time for Clint Eastwood? This is what I relate this music with. Showdown time. Look up his westerns Like Good bad and Ugly ,Hangem'high, Fistful of dollars. High plains drifter to name a few. (1970'S) Also have a Modela while you look 😂😂
It's a treat to watch a musician/singer perform a masterpiece (i.e. Billy Joel Piano Man), but when a large group of people come together to perform a perfect piece of art, it's special on another level. This is one of those rare occasions. Chills!
The Danish National Symphony Orchestra have produced a video in which Tuva Semmingsen and Christine Nonbo Andersen talk about this recording and about themselves. Well worth the watch!
why has it took you song, your diverse channel to get to this, best music score ever written for a movie, you should also, have a night and watch a masterpiece. on low budget
Composer writes the music Conductor arranges the music - translates original score to meet their vision of the music - anything from tempo to what instruments are included (generating the music score) to harmonisation. They’re also the drill sargeant to get everyone to deliver the vision of the piece of music. They are also a visual metronome for all members of the orchestra to keep the correct beat along with guiding them in when they start / stop both the whole performance and also the individual components.

Sooooo True! This film was watched overseas, and overthere took on what the identity of the Southwest during that time was, and existed for some time.
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, composed by Ennio Morricone in 1966, is still considered by many to be the greatest movie score ever written.

One of the most underrated film scores in my opinion is from Conan the Barbarian - the first huge movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
But there is just a ton of great film scores.
Maybe you try some more 🙂
Most people dont notice how important the music score is for a movie. Which makes movies like "no country for old men" so special (cause no score - thank you Coen Brothers for your brilliancy)
One of the greatest things I’ve ever seen in my life. A true testament to what man is capable of.
Finally you got to react to some music from My home country!

Is it go time for Clint Eastwood? This is what I relate this music with. Showdown time. Look up his westerns Like Good bad and Ugly ,Hangem'high, Fistful of dollars. High plains drifter to name a few. (1970'S) Also have a Modela while you look 😂😂
If governments could work together like symphony orchestras, the world would be a better place.
An orchestra, the ultimate teamwork!

Just think. We've gone from this to rap and hip hop.
I'm with you, man. I've watched this performance many times, and it remains one of my favorite videos on TH-cam. They absolutely crushed it.
You young RAP people need to learn SOO much about music.
Composer writes the music
Conductor arranges the music - translates original score to meet their vision of the music - anything from tempo to what instruments are included (generating the music score) to harmonisation. They’re also the drill sargeant to get everyone to deliver the vision of the piece of music. They are also a visual metronome for all members of the orchestra to keep the correct beat along with guiding them in when they start / stop both the whole performance and also the individual components.
I was at that concert .. everyone beyound their musical interest should hear a full orchestra play .. itssss amazing
