classic music is having a comeback thanks to drum machines

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is an Italian film by Sergio Leone (1966), The film was shot in Spain and in the studios of Rome in Italy, managing to reproduce almost faithfully the environments of the United States during the era of the great migrations and the conquest of the American West. This compisition is also Italian by Ennio Morricone. Hats off to the Danish National Symphony Orchestra for this magnificent performance. Bravo!

No, it's not! That was the Royal Danish Orchestra (Det Kongelige Kapel). It was formed in 1448 and is the oldest symphony orchestra in the world.
The orchestra in the video, is The Danish National Symphony Orchestra aka. DR Symfoniorkester. It was formed the same year DR (Denmark's Radio) was formed, 1925.

. @@akyhne Sorry, but you are actually both wrong. It was "DR RadioUnderholdningsOrkestret" (In English: Danish National Chamber Orchestra) who accompanied Procol Harum at Slotskoncert på Ledreborg in 2006. The annual concerts are arranged by DR so naturally they are going to use one of their own orchestras and choirs. The orchestra is now known as Danmarks Underholdningsorkester (In English: Danish Chamber Orchestra) after DR and the parliament disbanded the orchestra at the end of 2014 with a new public service contract with DR. After that the orchestra continued as a privately funded orchestra with crowdfunding campaign and funding from Danish corporations and hence the name changed. It only has 42 musicians vs. 106 musicians in The Danish National Symphony Orchestra and also around 100 musicians in the Royal Danish Orchestra.

Well, you sit in the cinema, watch a film, hear the fantastic soundtrack, are enthusiastic about the music - and you can't imagine how many people were involved in this piece of music! In this case more than 100/150 Musicians and a Choire with 40/50 members...
And with how much passion and enthusiasm - like the "Wah Wah Lady" for example.
And that has to be composed first - Ennio Morricone was one of the greatest film music composers in the world.
The "Danish National Symphony Orchestra" has even more up its sleeve - to name just a few: the soundtrack "Who Wants To Live For Ever" for the film "HIGHLANDER" or "HALO" etc.
    Have fun discovering...

The lady at the beginning doesn't use any instrument... what she's holding with her left hand near her mouth/face is a microphone... If you look at the end, you can see her placing the microphone on the stand that these "instruments" usually have when they're used on stage (for example in some kind of musical concert) so she doesn't have to hold them in her hand, like I said she was doing... So the effects you may have heard are just her voice, and I guess depending on the distance or location of the microphone in relation to her mouth... for example, to make the "fading" effect what she does is move the microphone away from her mouth...
So you know, I think you must have been the first person (at least that I know of) to have catalogued or defined a microphone as a "musical" instrument...

I believe you're describing the "Talk Box". It isn't a voice synthesiser. It's a loudspeaker in an air-tight box, with a tube that carries the loudspeaker's sound into the musicians mouth. There, the musician can shape that sound using their mouth, similar to speech. Frampton is such a great guitarist, he plays notes to sound like speaking tones, that sound goes through the 'Talk Box', he shapes the sound with his mouth near a microphone, so it sounds like a synthetic voice. It's actually quite organic.
There were a bunch of musical instrument add-on's similar to a 'Talk Box' decades before the 'Talk Box' Frampton used was invented. According to Wikipedia Stevie Wonder brought a type of 'Talk Box' to _"national television prominence"_ in 1970, then Jeff Beck in 1973 on his version of "Superstition" [a song Stevie Wonder had given Beck, but ended up releasing before Beck]. Frampton got his 'Talk Box' Christmas 1974.

@@jackculkin1015 Thank you for taking the time and effort to reply.
If you like that distinctive sound, Shaun Martin used a 'Talk Box' for emotion and effect, but not to produce speech, playing keyboards on _"Snarky Puppy - Sleeper (We Like It Here)"_ th-cam.com/video/kDXnPfA_5pY/w-d-xo.html (7m:7s) If you're unfamiliar with Snarky Puppy, they're a jazz/fusion/world music ensemble founded in Texas.

Glad you enjoyed that. It seems strange to me that someone hears Ennio Morricone's masterpiece away from the context of the film.

There are so many great film scores. One that is a bit under appreciated is "Conan - the Barbarian".
Maybe you wanna check out this live symphony performance:
CONAN THE BARBARIAN - UNIVERSAL PICTURES CENTENNIAL CONCERT - FIMUCITÉ 6 (its the TH-cam title - video is 11 years old and has 7 mio views until now).
The song is darker but still beautiful and more intense - especially in terms of the choire.
Anyway - thanks a lot for your reaction like always.

This was Christine’s first performance with the orchestra.
