I played the PAL version with a friend when I was a kid. It was my first double dragon game and for me the best one, the rest of the double dragon series felt so simple to me.
The NES are really simple, but I appreciate that about them, and I love the graphics and sound design. Plus, I just love Technos Japan for creating the beat em up genre with this series along with Renegade.
Favorite stage music was airport stage. Top fav DD games were this and NES DD2. I think the one for GB advance was a hot version too when u fight on top of a truck
I've never played this one, my history with DD is almost exclusively on NES besides the crossover with Battletoads and DD4. I definitely intend to get it on the SNES eventually. Great review!
This is the best DD game and has better fight animiion than all of the Final Foght and Streets of Rage games combined plus it has artwork from the artist from Fist of the Nirth Star series. There i said it
I have a lot of nostalgia for Super DD. One New Years Eve my parents were throwing a party so I had to be "downstairs" instead of cuddled in my room. I played the living shit out of this and Lethal Enforcers on the Sega CD. I remember it being a pretty decent game. I'll have to pick it up for the SFC.
Sounds like a cool way to spend any new years Eve 😎👌, I always wanted to play Lethal Enforces using the Justifier Gun, I played it one the arcades, but my pops never got us the game for the Snes lol. I recall spending a xmas eve playing Star Fox (snes), particularly on the hardest route, and I was doing pretty good for the entire route, my brothers were watching me play without losing a life, but some relatives came out of no where, and my mom took the cousin's to my room, suddenly she abruptly snatched the controller from my hands, and gave it to my cousin, replying: "let him play, you guys have this thing turn on all year long"... ouch, double ouch, triple ouch.. the things that parents do I guess. I recalled we got mad at my mom for the whole week lol 😂
I always liked this game, regardless of the many aspects being criticized by the video game magazines back in the day. I recalled my neighbor letting us borrow it for quite a while since it was too challenging for him lol, but I enjoy the sensation of being able to pull out some cool combos, and also the game physics feel nice; although for some people it's slow, but it's on par with other beat em ups like the Combatribes and also Kunio Kun series (well, they come from Technos as well, but I'm amazed how well crafted those games used to be ). After one gets used to the game mechanics , it's quite enjoyable!, plus, who wouldn't connect the Super Nintendo audio cables to the mini component stereo systems when the parents weren't at home, in order to enhance the experience?! I used to do it all the time lol , great review Jim! You're the man 👌
@@MadPanicGaming uff! Some TMNT IV ! .... Big Apple 3 AM! (Still fresh in my brain hippocampus lol) and still to this day, Megaman X it's my favorite mega man game among the rest, its superb gameplay and graphics, explosive on screen action, and the legendary music make it a must on any Super Nintendo collection, all the tracks are awesome, but the Armored Armadillo stage music it's so so cool 😎👌. I'll share a picture on your Instagram with my humble Mega Man collection. Have an amazing weekend bro!
Seems interesting... among the first NES games I played, Double Dragon II was one that I played multiple times repeatedly at a friends home. This one seems pretty interesting if for nothing else, for the remixed soundtrack and some of the stages... they seem pretty similar. Thanks for sharing Jim o/
I think the gameplay seems slower than it is, simply for the fact that it seems to be plodding along at the same speed of it predecessors, which is both good and bad. Good because there's consistent movement speed between DD games, but bad simply because when Final Fight dropped, the expectations of how a beat-em-up should feel shifted more in that direction. Fantastic review!
I think you're right. I'm more forgiving of the NES games I think. If this game played a bit faster and they included at least some story elements, it'd likely be the best beat em up on the console.
I think the animations are quite good but I think the graphics are kind of bare bones. Looks like an earlier 16 bit game. Reminds me of the first streets of rage.
Yeah, it is a bit on the bland side, again because the development time was so short. There are literally no story elements at all which is disappointing.

My brother and I would always get angry and accidently hit each other and then that would just escalate into all out war
Eventually you're doing it purpose and by that point, fuck just put in a fighting game.

Have you watched the movie? LOL
Definitely pick this game up if you can and if you have a Turbo Duo or PC Engine CD, the CD version of DD2 is awesome.
@@TG5455 I have lol.

Enjoying your channel; you sound a lot like Mark from CGR minus mentioning Truxton
Ha ha, you're not the first person to say that. Thanks! Also, I love TRUXTON!

Oh, if only we had a decent sound system when I was a kid, I would've been blasting some TMNT IV and Mega Man X!

Great choice Jim. I got this one on both versions myself. 8^)
Anthony..
You can never go wrong with some good old DD.

DD2 is still my favorite in the series. The PC Engine CD port is amazing!
Spend lots of money on duble dragon arcade version and console played 8bit
Cool video bro, how’s this game compare to pc engine double dragon? Also can you do a pc engine brawler video?
Hard to say because I love both games really, but that soundtrack and those cutscenes in DD2 on PC Engine are hard to argue with.

Bought it on import as soon as it was released. Love the fighting mechanic and is definitely one of the best. Shame about the scrolling text ending.
Yeah, this game deserved some cut scenes. Double Dragon 2 on the PC Engine, now there's a game with some killer cut scenes.

it aint no streets of rage 2..................
Nope, but then again few are.
